According to Gordon Chang's book The Coming Collapse of USA...LOL..He didn't write the book, but it would be better if he wrote one, for the sake of restoring his reputation as American #1 fortune teller.๐ Regardless whatsoever books may say, it is obvious that the US empire is on the fast track which leads to a Soviet styled collapse. In China there is an old proverb ๆ ๅ็ข็ฒๆฃ, which literally means "When the tree falls, the monkeys scatter" . But its true meaning, thanks James Cameron, who demonstrated it in his 2009 film Avatar: In the real world, if US is that tree, Canada and other US's so-called allies, are those blue monkeys who live on the tree. Of course, in the movie, the tree is political-correctly destroyed by the bad guy, the colonel. But in the real world, most trees fall just because of aging. Their trunks are hollow and their branches are rotten, so it can not carry so many monkeys living on it. If a tree could think and act like human, under such circumstance, the best way to save itself is to shake off these monkeys to reduce the load it carries. Nowadays, the US empire is just like a huge but rotten tree. Its trunk, branches and leaves are still huge and magnificent, but its root, the manufacturing section has mostly gone. We all know that a tree can not live long without root, so if the US empire wants to survive, it has to rebuild its root. If we watch Trump's policy from this perspective, and consider he is the president of US not the president of earth, which means America first๐, his decision making is quite reasonable. 1) His so-called madness---firing federal employees, sacking pentagon generals, disband USAID, cutting military aid to Ukraine....the ultimate purpose of all these is to reduce the spending of the federal government. If the root of a tree is rotten and can not supply enough nutrition to support the need of the entire tree, some leaves and branches should be shaken off. But a tree can not make itself great...lol...I mean flourishing again by dropping off leaves. So the 2nd step must be taken to repair its rotten roots. 2) How to bring manufacturing back to US? In 2017, Trump though he could achieve this by simply adding tariff on Chinese goods because China was the major manufacturer and exporter in the world. But after 8 years of trade war against China, the US has found it is like a lion trying to bring down an elephant. It's just an unwinnable war. So this time, Trump turns to US's allies. The reason is simple: a) In most industrial fields, these allies are actually American commercial competitors, like Airbus vs Boeing, Japanese/European/Canadian cars vs American cars, Samsung phone vs iPhone, Canadian oil vs US oil....etc. b) Unlike China, the wage level and production costs in these allies is similar with their American counterparts, which means it's much easier to bring industries and jobs back to US from these allies than from China. For example: If Trump wants to bring TV production back to US from China, US will need to rebuild the whole supply chain, which means hundreds of factories to produce all its components and parts to support it. If you tear down a TV to see how many parts and components in a single PCB you will know it. Trump can not achieve this goal within his second term. And if he can't make some progress which is visible to his voters within 2-3 years, I'm afraid prison will await him. But if he targets the steel industry in Canada, it will be much easier to achieve the goal within a short period of time, because the US still has steel industry so no need to rebuild it. It will be much easier to increase production and train workers to replace imported steels. And unlike TV, he doesn't need to build a supply chain to make steels. So he can show the effect of his MAGA plan to his voters within just a few months to a couple of years. This is the basic logic which makes Trump behaving like what we have seen now. It is delusional to think that Trump is just bluffing or all these "madness" will gone with him 4 years later.

Behind scene, this clown looks like an elementary school pupil who is called into Principle's office because he did something naughty...๐ I think Trump intentionally arranged the meeting coincidence with the video call with Zelenskyy to show him what these European leaders truly are.

There is a reason why you see a warning sign when you are entering a bear country and you are warned that you need to back off not approach it when you encounter a bear. When you approach a bear, from the bear's point of view, it's a provocation and it's a threat, regardless how good will you think that you have. If someone has at least some common sense of geopolitics, he knows I'm talking about the NATO expansion towards Russian border. Just look this guy, an typical American I suppose, carrying a handgun and swaggering around before a bear (though it is just a cub๐) to show his strength. His action is a provocation though he doesn't directly punch the bear's face or kick its butt. I guess you and many others here may ask: "Does the Russian invasion justify the needs of NATO expansion?" It seems like it does but actually it doesn't. Just as I have said, the expansion is just a provocation to drag Russia into a war with its neighbors to weaken it. It never meant for protection. If it does, now it's a great time to send NATO troops in to defend Ukraine, or was it the great time 3 years ago when the invasion begin? NATO doesn't need a treaty to start or involve in a war if it really want to. Biden kinds knew exactly what they were doing and how Russia would respond eventually to this unlimited NATO expansion. They set up the situation for both sides, just like those men who pulled two bulls towards each other to trigger a fight. They may offer food and water to the weaker bull to make it "stay strong, keep fighting๐ข", but never meant to joint the fight for a bull.
-
These bulls fight for...adrenaline I guess. But obviously they fight on their own will. If man can force bulls fight, we would have seen lots of cow fights as well. Meanwhile, they still are proxies of these man. These men use the nature of these bulls setting up the situation for their own gains, like gambling, entertaining, or anything they want. Trump belongs to those men who live on eating beef; Biden belongs to these men who lead these bull to fight then, after one bull falls, they will still eat its corpse.
-
All military hardware made-by-USA, France, UK, Germany....Canada are at greatly inflated prices. This is why nowadays almost all NATO's wars have become unwinnable. These weapons are so expensive that even a small scaled war will likely become unaffordable to these richest nations in the world if it is lasted more than a few years.

Of course it is a speculation since it hasn't happened yet and I'm not James Bond who has the ability to sneak into little Napoleon, little Hitler and litter Churchill's offices to see what they are up to. But I think it is a reasonable speculation from the facts which we have known. Anyway there are few countries which used to use their own taxpayer's money to buy brand new American missiles for Ukraine like Canada. ๐

He said EU had $230 billion frozen Russian assets. As long as the war continues EU have the money in their pockets. Even if the wars ends, as long as Russia is identified as the aggressor, they will still keep the money or maybe use the money under the name of rebuilding Ukraine, to buy goods only from EU companies with far higher price than market price, so they will virtually have the money in their pocket. In short, they won't directly give these money to Ukraine so Ukrainian can use them freely to buy goods from anywhere they wants. I guess this is why EU insists to continue the war and identify Russia as the aggressor. If Russia wasn't the aggressor, they would have no excuses to seize these assets but have to return them to the rightful owner once the war was ended. US on the other hand, doesn't have many Russian assets within their grasp. This is why Trump wants Ukraine to pay the bill for US aid but European always say "Russia should pay for it".

Zelenskyy: Sleepy Joe promised me if we confronted Russia, US would guaranty our security. And We have plenty of minerals to reward US if.... Trump passes Zelenskyy a map to show Putin's demand: I don't care a damn what Sleep Joe said. You will recede these lands to Russia. You will give these minerals up to USA. And there isn't any security guaranties for Ukraine. Zelenskyy sighs painfully: It's OK. Trump: It's OK? Good. Now you will sign here, Putin signs here, and I sign here, then the deal is made. Zelenskyy, Putin and Trump sign the deal. After Putin leaves, Trump: Now let's discuss how can US get those minerals? Zelenskyy: You can send in troops and take them yourselves. Trump: Where are they? Zelenskyy points on the map which Trump gave to him: Don't you know they are all on the Russian side.....๐๐

Hitler wrote the book in the cell of a prison in 1923, when he was almost nobody. He launched the aggression on Soviet 18 years later when he had become the ruler of one of those great powers in the world. Had he changed his mind a bit and had a bigger plan then? We don't know since he killed himself at the end of the war without left another autobiography. But we can reasonably assume that he wouldn't stop there if he had conquered the Soviet. So he would eventually have to change his mind and draw a bigger plan. Having a large land army doesn't mean he had to use it for an aggression, otherwise the WW3 should have broke out shortly after WW2 since both US and USSR had strong armies then. He could take defensive position in the east front and use German industrial power to build a stronger navy and air force to take Britain next year. Maybe I have made too many assumptions here. But after all, my point is: In 1941, Hitler didn't know that USSR was far stronger than he thought. Most military observers then believed the Red Army was weak due to its poor performance during the Winter War. So Hitler saw USSR as an easy prey then.

Trying to say something seriously: Emergency power is like the emergency clinic in a hospital. It should only be used under emergency situations. It isn't the best way to solve chronic problems. For example: Uncle Sam gets a stroke and becomes unconscious after a prolonged war game playing on his XBox Series X๐ข. So an ambulance carries him to an emergency clinic and Dr. Obama brings him back with a medicine called EXECUTIVE ORDER.๐ Of course the root causes of Uncle Sam's sickness are some chronic diseases like hypertension and arteriosclerosis. But being obsessed by the quick effect of EXECUTIVE ORDER to treat his stroke, Uncle Sam goes to the emergency clinic routinely and demands Dr. Trump, Dr. Biden...there to prescribe him EXECUTIVE ORDER to treat these chronic diseases. I think I needn't to continue the story since everyone is asking "What's wrong with this Uncle Sam?"๐ Just like Uncle Sam, the problems caused by, or more precisely revealed by Trump's tariff threat, include two parts. One part is emergency but relatively easy to solve, like some workers may lose their jobs, some businesses may suffer financial losses. But another part, the chronic one, like most Canadian companies lack diversity of the market of their products, it can't be solved easily by some emergency measures. It may need not only government but also everyone to work hard on them and make sacrifice to address them.

It may not take as that long as you think. Just watch the other side over the border. Don't you feel the political climate of public opinion there changes so rapidly that even beyond people's wildest anticipation? Even your statement "but now Canada will spend the next decade distancing itself from the united states even more" indicates that the public opinion of a nation can be turned around just within a few days when circumstance changes, since Canadian had been willingly integrating their economy into US's for decades until Trump's tariff and annexation threat came.

I'm fully aware how US's electoral vote system works. People's political preference changes when whereabouts of their personal interests are laid changes. A Canadian steelworker was an US lover because most of the products of the company he worked for were exported to US, so actually it is the US which gave him the well-paid job. Now, after US has put the tariff on steels and makes him jobless, he becomes a US hater. And maybe a few month later, he will be hired by a US steel company since they will need lots of workers to produce the additional steels to replace the imported ones. So the worker may become a US lover again since only US can provide what he needs mostly. When Canada became the 51th state of US, many Canadian would come around. Peace loving Canadian auto workers may become war supporters after they had found new well-paid jobs in tank factories. Liberals may become conservatives when they move into the conservative dominated regions, following the example setting up by the former leader of the Conservative Party of Canada...๐

If some Canadian think Trump is only acting on his own, I think they are wrong. Just use the recent event on Ukraine for instance: I guess most people believe that Trump is the first American president who sold Ukraine to Putin. But if they recall what Sleepy Joe said a few weeks before the war:"...Putin is planning an invasion....if he just takes a part of Ukraine it is fine, if he takes the whole it is unacceptable....", they will find they are wrong. US had planned to give up part of Ukraine territory to Putin from the beginning. But after they found the resistance from Ukraine was much stronger and Putin's military power wasn't as strong as he boasted, Sleepy Joe thought he could use the war to weaken then dissolve Russia once and for all, he changed his mind. Now, after find the war is unwinnable and only push Russia close to China, Americans change their mind again. Trump is just come back to what US planned from the beginning, nothing new at all.
-
Why do you think republicans would lose if Canada became the 51th state of America? Aren't there any conservatives or US or Trump copycats living inside Canada? Whom do you think they would vote for if the annexation actually happened? Besides, the minds of common people may change under manipulation or different circumstances. A story for instance: Just assume during WW2, some American war prisoners were shipped to Japan from Philippines. In the mid of the sea, the ship was bombed by American bombers and caught fire. Unable to put the fire off by themselves, Japanese asked these prisoners for help. So, what would these Americans do? Help their enemy to save themselves by saving the ship, or let the ship sink so let themselves being burned or drowned to death?

When an orange fur cat comes in a rat infested barn, all of these would-be rat leaders, they call themselves litter Napoleon, litter Churchill, litter Hitler...., begin fussing around like the world is going to end.๐ After all, they are not what they think they are. They are just some tiny, powerless, vulnerable rats.๐ข Reporter: Mr. President, will Salmon be involved when you have the dinner with Putin? Trump: They will be involved. They will be on the menu...

The word "suddenly" means timing is more important than other factors. You are right that Hitler always wanted the natural resources from the Soviet, but why he chose to fight a two-fronts war in 1941 is what I'm talking about. Hitler isn't a fool. How on earth couldn't he figure out that it was a mater of time that the US would join the war eventually since the US Navy was dropping depth charges on German submarines in Atlantic all the time? In his mind, defeating the Soviet with a BlitzKrieg and taking its naturally resources would deter American involvement, and after realizing there wouldn't be any help coming from outside, British might eventually surrender to the Third Reich. I know not only Trump but the whole US as well always want to annex Canada. They tried it in the first place shortly after they became independent from the British. Elon Musk even much bolder. He want colonize Mars๐. But again, timing is important on this matter. Why Trump expresses his desire of annexing Canada publicly now? Nowadays even Putin needs some excuse like Special Operation or something to annex Ukraine. If someone think Trump was doing some big mouth things he is wrong. If you compare videos in which Trump met Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian PM Narendra Modi and Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, and pay attention on how his manner differs, you will know that he isn't a fool at all. He knew what the person on the opposite of negotiation table was capable of and to use what kind of manner to deal with him. He is so bold on annexing Canada because he is so desperate. He know the clock is ticking. He needs to act now before the collapse of the US empire becomes inevitable. Most Canadians may not like Trump but Trump isn't a dictator. He isn't an emperor either. But even an emperor just can't push his policy in effect without being supported by at least part of his officials. It is a reasonable assumption that what Trump is doing isn't acted only by himself alone, but at least backed up by some members of the deep states as well.
-
I think some conservative politicians need to watch this video: You can see Zelenskyy almost cried when he was asked that Vance didn't mention Ukraine at all in his speech. And if you watch the whole interview, you will find there were a couple of times you can see the light reflection of tears in his eyes. Being a loyal servant of US isn't always a well-paid job after all.

You would consider it a serious threat if you knew why Hitler suddenly turned to Soviet after the Battle of Britain. Hitler turned to the east because his offensive in the west was stalled by the strong resistance from British, so he turned to an easy prey---conquering the Soviet and seizing its natural resources would make German dominance in the Eurasia indisputable and would help to bring British under his knees. Of course we all know Soviet wasn't an easy prey at all from history, but in 1941 in Hitler's mind he didn't know it at all. Now Trumpโs trade war with China is also stalled. Actually stall is an optimistic word to describe the situation. "He is losing the war" should be a more precise statement. Annexing Canada and seizing its natural resources will make US a super-superpower in the world and make US's dominance in the world indisputable, which will help him to bring China under his knees. Some Canadian may ask: We are US's allies. If they want something from us, why shouldn't just ask instead of an annexation? For understanding this, they need to understand what is the difference between cats and dogs which both we human are considered the same under the name of pets: Thousands years ago, both dogs and cats chose to live with humans, but with different status. Cats chose to be an alley of human but dog chose to be the slave of humans. This is why there are military dogs but no military cats. Just imagine: when an army guy brings his dog and cat with him to the battle field. When he suspects there is a minefield in his path and he gives an order to the dog "Go forth to see what's in there", the dog will execute the order dutifully. But if he gives the order to his cat, the cat may say: "Oh, no way. I have just seen a big rat near that tree. Why shouldn't you go forth to fight your enemy and I stay here to fight mine? "๐๐

No more additional contents needed. The video below explains everything:๐ LIVE: Canada First Rally I was wondering if there is any conservative politician who can invent a political policy by himself rather than being a copycat of someone in Washington without knowing the difference between Canada and US? As a country which population is only 40 million, copying from Trump is just like Mussolini tried to copy from Hitler to conquer the world. It isn't feasible at all.

Chinese Spy Balloon Invades US Airspace.

Thank you for not mentioning that deans of hospitals hire doctors... If any dean had enough funds but refused to hire more doctor and buy more medical equipment to fixe his ER waiting time problem, it would be his fault. That provinces are responsible for healthcare systems of their territories does mean federal government can not fund them. Trudeau suggests 'positive' news on health-care talks with provinces could come soon As for schools, I bet some third world countries even haven't any medical schools, but they still have hospitals and doctors, haven't they? Schools won't train more students if no one hire them. If a medical accepts 100 candidates from 500 applicants, do you really think there are too much difference between the #100 and the #101 candidates? The only reason that the #101 is declined is because the school anticipate that there isn't any more needs in labor market. Before the war broke out, I bet every student who graduated from Ukrainian military schools was hired by Ukrainian army, but it doesn't meant that they can't train more soldiers and officers when they need to expend their army now. Canada can not exist without its provinces. This is why Trudeau funds provincial health-care system.

Canadian political model for achieving long-term peace in Ukraine
xul replied to athos's topic in The Rest of the World
I think the war has nothing to do with the rights of Russian ethnic in Ukraine. Putin couldn't make Russia great again without annexing Ukraine. Biden couldn't make US great again without knocking Russia out of the game of thrones via the war in Ukraine before dealing with China. This is why the war continues. Maybe before the war, exactly before Putin annexed Crimea, if Ukrainian government was smart enough to adapt your plan, it would have been worked. But now, the stakes of both sides are too high. I even couldn't imagine who would pay the bill of the rebuilding of the country.
