  1. His grade school bully persona was the thing I found most revolting about him since the very beginning of his candidacy.
  2. Trump's made no secret of the fact he only respects people who are "strong". McCain isn't a war hero because he was captured. A real hero would have single-handedly slaughtered all his captors and liberated the prison camp, right? Vets who get PTSD are "weak". A real man shouldn't even flinch at the sight of their friend's guts spilled out across the dirt, amirite? Other presidential candidates have "low energy" and "low stamina". Everyone's a loser compared to the greatness of Trump. If Trump was in the military, not only would he not get PTSD, he'd inflict PTSD on all the enemies around him just by his fearsome gaze.
  3. Hmm, I'm guessing that for someone who has spent most of their life working hard to have the opportunity to compete at the top of their field, not being able to go to the event without submitting oneself to a humiliating and backward cultural requirement might be more than a trivial annoyance. You're right, it's not life or death, and there are bigger things wrong in the world, but for the people affected it's hardly a "meh" issue.
  4. If most of the competitors boycott it then chances are they'd have to relocate. All up to the individual competitors, now.
  5. No one can know what will happen over the next 100 years, but for what little it's worth, none of the mainstream predictions of human population over the next century come anywhere close to showing a decline to 1 billion.
  6. Serious and meaningful dialogue? Dialogue which consists of baseless generalizations about one group consisting of billions of people or another group consisting of billions of people, based on nothing more than the year in which they happened to be born? People are people whether they were born in the 1950s or the 1980s or at any other time. Most people in any generation eventually find their niche and do just fine in life, some few do not. Meanwhile technology and society advances and the exact nature of those niches changes accordingly. What else is there to say?
  7. Hope so! Ethanol in fuel is about the worst idea ever, both for drivers and for the environment.
  8. Or just be richer, if that's a priority. Plenty of opportunity around. More than ever.
  9. Indeed. As grandpas have done for thousands of years. The last rantings of a dying generation, we can let them pass with a measure of dignity. Us millennials pay the taxes that let grandpa sit on his porch and rant away.
  10. The problem is not just the profile photos but seemingly (almost) all images on the site. These include the "new reply" image on the "New Content" page as well as the topic name + post number image on every post. The overall effect is very jarring.
  11. Wage disparity isn't an issue of rights but a complex interplay of social and economic factors. Wage parity is not something the government can create by decree since the government does not set wages (other than the minimum wage, which is of course the same for both men and women). Sexual assault is a crime, a serious crime, and is treated in our justice system as other crimes are and is (and should be) held to the same standard of proof and carries harsh penalties when someone is convicted. What would you propose changing?
  12. Sure it is, we just haven't figured out how quite yet.
  13. Nope but if you look over a 100 year timescale, any number of relatively useless programs will add up to a trillion dollars or more. More pertinently, absolutely no one can say with confidence what things will cost or what their consequences will be by 2100, it is simply not possible to forecast that far in the face of historical uncertainty not to mention technological change. The nearer term costs are more relevant rather than throwing out random numbers which can have no possible basis.
  14. That error message comes up when trying to post images with the .svg extension (commonly found on wikipedia) and some other extensions. Other image formats (.jpg and .bmp and .png will work for example).
  15. $1 trillion by the end of the century? That seems like pocket change. Canada's GDP is currently $1.6 trillion. Assuming a modest growth rate of 2% for the rest of the century, GDP in 2100 will be ~$8.5 trillion, and the total economic product over the rest of the century (summing up 2016, 2017,... through 2100) will be ~$350 trillion. So a $1 trillion cost by then is merely 0.3% of the economic output over that period. Hardly catastrophic.
  16. You have a lot of valid points regarding Islam but I don't think you're gonna convince anyone with the Halal thing. I'd switch tacks if I were you.
  17. I'd make the thumbnails bigger so it's possible to see what's in the linked image before clicking it. The thumbnails right now are so tiny it's hard to tell what the image is before clicking it. I'd make them roughly 2x the current size, if possible.
  18. Pretty sure there's already a regime in place exempting heads of state/government and high level diplomats from a lot of entry requirements all around the world.
  19. You could be right. Still looks unnatural to me though. If she really looks and moves like that though she's in really bad shape.
  20. "Hundreds of billions"? That's like the entire GDP of Ontario. "Hundreds of billions" of dollars would be enough to make Ontario electricity free for the next half century.
  21. True, presumably they would issue a statement about it if the video wasn't real. Or maybe not, for fear of drawing more attention to it. Who knows. The movements just look really unnatural though. Don't you think? Just look at the video a few times and pay attention to how she is moving / being moved. Like the whole way her body is propped up against the post in the beginning, back leaning back slightly, and then when they start moving her. Just doesn't seem like a real person's movements. Then again I guess politicians aren't really real people
  22. Try again?
  23. Who is to say it was staged by "team Clinton"? Staging something like this to cast doubt on Hillary's health doesn't seem like it would be above something "team Trump" would do...
  24. The movements of the person in the video just look much more like a dummy of some sort then a real human. Watch closely and look at how the head just kind of lolls around. And the reactions of the people around don't seem consistent with a real person in a state of medical distress. Presumably the people helping her into the van are some kind of professionals and yet you can see her body drop and her legs/knees be dragged across the ground. I could be wrong obviously, just didn't seem natural at all to me.
