America under President Trump
godzilla replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
you lost me. no, its not used for "those things". its used for over priced guns and tanks and rocket launchers and $500 million dollar airplanes that never fly... and exotic sports cars and private islands for those who provide those things. and what the fuck has the space program have to do with it? Canadians could care less about a space program. let me think... free health care, space program, free health care, space program... free health care! and sure, we'll siphon off some of that sweet stupid cash and listen politely while you guys complain about us not borrowing our fair share. lovin it! -
Will it be the virus that takes Trump down?

the virus is contained in Canada! while its not in the US.... just saying! of course, its going to be impossible to keep it contained in Canada now that the US has fucked up. we've already had cases come from Washington state! thanks a bunch! -
America under President Trump

you keep bringing this up and its complete bullshit. America can go fund NATO all it likes to the tune of half of all world military spending. go ahead. throw your money at the US military industrial complex. money that could be used for health care, day care, maternity leave, seniors care, roads, water, sewage, national debt repayment, tax breaks, free pop-cycles... you name it. but no, gotta keep that war machine that never gets used going. oh, and by the way... you don't pay for it do you? you borrow it! hey, what about "no more wars"? that means there's no need to be spending such obscene money on stupid shit right? seriously, its like some trailer trash dad whose children go shoe-less and borrows money for guns. hahaha! -

the economy is rarely influenced by single changes in government policy. its the whole bundle that either helps or hinders. and that traditionally, big business has not cared whether its a D or an R. they have hooks in no matter what. sure there are short term fluctuations due to announcements but the overall price is baked in. but... if the Trump admin has truly fucked this up and prevented any hope of containment (which appears to be the case) and the economy gets shuttered, then do you think that Trump has a chance in the general election with every big business steaming about that fuck up? i'm going to suggest that he hasn't. that he's fucked. the US government isn't even able to come up with that kind of money. this isn't 2008 where they just had to bail out some of the biggest banks... they'll have to bail out everything. remember, the economy and health care are the #1 and/or #2 on most voters minds. when one of those go to shit then nobody generally cares whether it was the lead guys fault or not. sure, Trump has always been able to point the finger elsewhere... people will be thinking "hmm... what has Trump done for me aside from entertainment, yeah immigration is important and... what else? oh yeah, he fucked up and allowed the plague to infest us". -

except when he's scared shitless and its plainly obvious. nobody likes a man/baby. if he wants to ride this then he needs to portray strength and taking the bull by the horns. he doesn't even get that its not the flu. While market sinks, Trump tweets on Obama, 'fake news' and the Dem primary wonder if this has anything to do with his own germaphobe thing? "he accused the "Fake News Media" of working to "inflame" the crisis "far beyond what the facts would warrant," even as his HHS Secretary on Fox News this morning said “nobody is trying to minimize” the seriousness of the coronavirus." "Trump proclaimed that "nothing is shut down, life & the economy go on." yeah, except for the quants at JP Morgan Chase, Golman Sacks etc... those guys respond too "fake news" to much? Health officials shift tone on coronavirus, say elderly and sick at risk "representing the Trump administration, making it clear that the outbreak is past the point where it can be prevented from spreading or easily tracked." -

Trump is obviously seriously afraid that the economy will tank over this though... and his base will stay home if he does. nobodys going to support a guy who is tanking the economy. unless.... he takes the bull by the horns now and stops this "its not happening" man/baby stuff. declares a full state of a emergency, an existential crisis that threatens not only the US but mankind as a species. that it will be necessary to suspend civil liberties in this fight for existence. really play it up. have the CIA import the virus to democratic strong holds. cease the airways and all public communications. and thank god he is the one in charge as he is the only true leader who can lead America through this ordeal. -

disease usually does more damage in urban environments... you know, where democrats hang out. again, has someone told the Donald about this? he's had such a glum face about this! all he has to think about is all those democratic voters puking blood! -

right... good point. from the ashes. has someone mentioned this to Trump? this could be exactly what he's been waiting for... marshal law. existential crisis from the outside. Trumps 911. complete tyranny. yeah i could see that. i'd suggest it matters how bad it gets. it might have to be really bad. -

and thus the topic. agreed he's pretty untouchable politically with his base. but this isn't democrats... this is real world shit. as i mentioned, viruses don't really listen to rhetoric. but bodies may pile up and the economy may take a shit and then? Teflon? of course Teflon Don will try to blame anybody else but... he's in charge. its his show. and he's golfing. -

he's holidaying in Florida as we speak. he'll probably get a couple of rounds of golf in tomorrow. it would appear that his "antics" are his only capabilities. -

using a bunch of words to get a job doesn't make you capable. anyways, whoever pushed him to put Pence in charge should get a medal because obviously he's not up to the task. -

Trump's mismanagement helped fuel coronavirus crisis "“I don't need to have the numbers double because of one ship that wasn't our fault,” Trump added, saying that he ultimately empowered Pence to decide whether to evacuate the passengers." "a president who rewards those underlings who tell him what he wants to hear while shunning those who deliver bad news." "Trump has become attached to the daily count of coronavirus cases and how the United States compares to other nations, reiterating that he wants the U.S. numbers kept as low as possible. Health officials have found explicit ways to oblige him by highlighting the most optimistic outcomes in briefings, and their agencies have tamped down on promised transparency. The CDC has stopped detailing how many people in the country have been tested for the virus, and its online dashboard is running well behind the number of U.S. cases tracked by Johns Hopkins" everything is fine! its just the flu! don't worry, man/baby is in charge! -
seriously, with all of Trumps failings.... it appears that his man/baby fear that anything that goes wrong in the US is some kind of blemish on his reputation may be the most offensive to even his supporters. nobody is about to blame Trump for the Coronovirus. its not his fault that its happening. but it would appear that his ultra thin skin and fragile ego can't allow him to even comprehend or mentally accept that the US is on the verge of an un-contained epidemic that will kill hundreds of thousands. all he can comprehend is his usual tactic of telling people "there is no problem" or making it some kind of liberal conspiracy. except that it doesn't work in this situation. and his delay to even consider the issue because "its just the flu" is about to cost thousands of lives. Trump calls Inslee a 'snake' over criticism of coronavirus rhetoric Trump rallies his base to treat coronavirus as a ‘hoax’

i agree with much of what you've said except for whether the geopolitical side POTUS is on. POTUS can be very powerful here... its just that Trump as POTUS has been unable to convince the status quo re Putins Russia. again, Trump advertised profusely that things were going to change with Russia. i'd propose that he took that shit job in the first place thinking he'd at least get a Moscow tower out of the deal. and then he ran up against the status quo and he's realized that pushing any harder may jeopardize what appears to be his worst nightmare... being called a one term president. of course most of this is evidence-less conjecture... but it is curious that he's not out there advertising how tough on Russia he is being. which is really odd for him if its something he thinks gets him political clout.

haha! nailed it. -
20 million people won't be kicked off of health care til after the election now... whew, R's can breath again! Supreme Court will hear major challenge to Obamacare "The justices said they would hear the case, likely later this year, after turning down an earlier request from Democrats to fast-track a ruling by June." "The court is expected to hear the case during its next term starting in October, but the justices did not say when it will hear oral arguments."

the road to absolute tyrrany

Trump argues during impeachment that the courts were the place to pursue information that the american people own that he refuses to provide, the court says that the court is not the place... how do the american people get the information about how their country is being run by political figures that they have hired to run the country? Judiciary Committee says McGahn ruling leaves only extreme options — such as arrests — to get White House info -
Judge slams Barr, orders review of Mueller report deletions "A federal judge excoriated Attorney General Bill Barr on Thursday for distorting the findings of special counsel Robert Mueller during his investigation into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia." "Republican-appointed judge endorsing Mueller’s view that Barr’s characterization led to confusion" "Justice Department lawyers asked that the judge bless the deletions from the report based on a declaration submitted by a department official. But Walton declined to do so" “I just think it’s a banana republic when we go down that road.”
