  1. great! he did one thing right... didn't help much but whatever. and doesn't make him capable. comparisons with other countries responses is more of that "whataboutism". doesn't really change the incapable response of the Trump admin for US citizens at the moment.
  2. this was discussed early in this thread... about Trumps tone. and it was decided that if Trump took the bull by the horns and leaned into the disaster then he may come out on top. he certainly has changed his tone. he looks pretty weak though when he says "it wasn't my fault". irrespective, another aspect i find fascinating is that historically people come together in times of crisis. political boundaries begin to fail. this is a threat to Trumpism. Trump is definitively a separator-in-cheif. in times of crisis that tool is rendered far less useful.
  3. yep, blame someone else for not being able to do your job. that works! its clear that while this was playing out Trumps administration did absolutely nothing and indeed was downplaying any concerns simply to appease Trumps fear of the matter.
  4. I'm sorry you're absolutely correct. It was what you sad sarcasticly that i misinterpreted.
  5. where are you getting this data? stats like these don't agree with you: worldometer coronovirus stats Canada at 39 cases per million, US at 99 cases per million. i'm not hearing anyone in the Canadian health industry complaining currently of shortages... health professionals all over the US have indicated that the shortages are happening now.
  6. man, i gotta say that Pence is really shining in his new role. probably pissing Trump off that people are wishing he was president instead!
  7. man this should be easy for trump supporters then. simply bring up all of the fabulous things he is doing everyday! easy! so there's the tax break for the rich and subsequent spike in federal debt. cool, not up on any studies that have quantified any benefits to that yet but whatever. and you got NAFT 2.0 which is cool... but you know, its not a lot different from NAFT 1.0. but cool, anyways i'm sure. then you got... um, what exactly? he had R's in all three branches for 2 years! wtf?! hahaha! get rid of obamacare? no. build the wall? no. stop muslims from entering the country. ok, great he did that. that's important. of course i don't want you to think i haven't missed the biggest thing he's done... ginned up political rhetoric so that half the population think its either him or some fuckin "open boarders", "anti-gun" boogie man shit. seriously, thats the only reason he's in the job, right? to protect against boogie man! and of course the trailer trash believe its a black and white thing... its either/or... its freedom or slavery. when... its not. every issue in a modern society is complex and there are people who it is wise to let into the country and others one shouldn't. and there are people who are fine to have guns and others who should not. and there are people who believe there are child sex slaves in the basement of a pizza parlor somewhere. Cult45. and if D's get in and say/do the same thing then i'll be here... suggesting that people speak truth to power, as it were. i mean, i guess you could say that i'm "fiscally conservative" and "socially liberal" and want science based based and because i've made a shit load of cash from corporate sources am fully aware of what "taxed at source" slavery does to people. does that make me some kind of "commie"?! some "Trump hater". let it be! stay safe out there!
  8. that shit is the way he is running the country. its no secret that his frail ego means that any calamity he views as some kind of blemish on his reputation that makes him angry and so he has, to date, simply been refusing his administration even acknowledge that something bad is happening. half of the jobs in his entire administration go unfilled. those that are filled are reserved for those who pledge allegiance to his frail ego above any form of ability to do that particular job. its never been about the job for him. since day one its been politics because thats all he understands. that shit means that the impact to the US economy will be more abrupt and more severe. the quants on wall street are not listening to his tone. the machines in the basement of the Dow can't even hear him. what they are reacting to is the lack of immediate and concerted effort to test, quarantine and control in order to slow the spread. especially in a country where so many lack access to health care. Trump gave vast sums away as a tax break for the wealthiest, who will self quarantine on their islands, and big business will be looking to him for bail outs that will make 2008 look like a picnic. and if big business has already decided that his ego has fucked this up and the US is headed for a recession then, politically, he'll get hung out to dry. and with the general population, his usual "there was nothing we could do, it wasn't my fault" does not help his political clout either. and how many of his "base" are going to be so "keep america great" when they get to the emergency room with their grandmother only to have her part of a lottery system to see who gets a bed or a ventilator. because the Trump administration did not act immediately because Trump himself didn't want to "spook" the markets.
  9. and its been a pleasure debating with you.
  10. well, as i've originally proposed, Trump may come out of this alive and still a political power... he's changed his tune significantly but it may be too little too late. he's getting a severe trashing in the media due to the utter failure of the response to the crisis (how many americans have it? who knows!) so only time will tell whether the baby boomers in his base or just those who voted R out of habbit, those who are looking at their retirement investments disappear and the prospect of 10-20% fatalities (so many boomers) are going to be a little pissed. of course, dead people don't vote!
  11. my "narrative" is that Trump is an idiot who is probably the most incapable president ever. i never said i hated the guy. i don't. you've stated emphatically that it doesn't matter that he's an idiot. he's your idiot. best of luck! but this is a forum discussion about US politics. you consistently respond to Trump critique with "what about Canada?", "cheapskates", "cross boarder shopping", etc... its hilarious. its not really political discourse about US politics. just saying!
  12. you're hilarious. first nations are definitely an issue... because we are still in a conflict over land. a big issue. and they chose how to spend the money that we give them. if they decide to build an ice rink instead of a water treatment plant? well, thats their prerogative it appears. the US just ignores first nations so... not much of an issue.
  13. no i'm not.... non-discretionary spending is non-discretionary. its implied that there is more of a choice. a choice between housing and defense. a choice between transportation and defense. a choice between health care and defense. again, the US spends more that the next 7 biggest defense spending countries on the planet! rip the numbers all you like and that doesn't change. and its all borrowed.
  14. i think you meant... "borrows".
  15. i'd back a food program. there you go. but would the other G7 countries be doing better with kids fruits and vegetables if they didn't have one? you've never been to Canada have you... we have nothing like this here:
  16. my point does that the US simply spends too much on defense does not disappear because i've not included entitlement programs.
  17. yeah, not following how cross boarder shopping is relevant to Trump fucking up the coronovirus response. or NATO spending or school lunch programs or any of your usual crutches for that matter. but whatever.
  18. again, our children aren't starving. in fact, what we are trying to get going at the moment is a national child care program... not a school food program. because we don't need one. U.S. health spending twice other countries' with worse results
  19. and the fact that the USCBP is populated by a bunch of racists is relevant to the topic... in what way?
  20. cite! Air Canada stops all flights to China due to coronavirus
  21. thats 52% thats not going to all of the things on the right. being "cheapskates" on transportation, education, veterans, housing, health, foreign affairs, law enforcement etc etc..
  22. getting a little off topic? you said that we infected the US. cite!
  23. no no, don't pull that crap. the fact that Canadians like cross border shopping is not in dispute. you said that we infected the US. cite!
  24. oh i can use Google... 52% of discretionary spending goes to defense! wtf! 52%! The United States spends more on defense than the next seven countries combined. must be getting ready for a war with those seven countries. we don't have a federal school food program because our children aren't starving! The United States performs poorly in the child equality rankings. are we cheap? or just fiscally conservative? cause fiscal conservatism in the US is a joke!
  25. yeah, thats cause we actually know how many cases we have! hahaha! bullshit. cite! and nobody smokes here anymore.
