the road to absolute tyrrany
godzilla replied to godzilla's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
No, he edges. He constantly explores the edges for weakness and if he doesn't find it then he keeps hammering. Its only a matter of time to have those contoled by populist ideology to weaken to whatever he desires. It just needs time. Its a model that works when systems are not in place to protect against it. And Trump has shown that those measures are not robust enough to prevent it. Because he has no shame and is completely ego driven and he has modeled the R party as the party of one. -

A Conservative Judge Draws a Line in the Sand With Trump Administration "Outraged the attorney general had ignored a court order, he authors a blistering opinion rebuking William Barr for overstepping his constitutional authority." The courts were the last vestige of the rule of law for this administration... its over. another 4 years is all he needs... he will change the constitution to remove any restrictions on terms. states will complain that they have to participate by law and the Tyrant will simply ignore them. he is above the law now. -

increasingly, it appears that the safeguards that americans have come to expect that protect them from complete tyranny, no longer apply. All 4 prosecutors quit Roger Stone case after DOJ shifts to urge lighter sentence "The moves come as Trump has expressed his displeasure with the proposed 7-to-9 year prison term for his longtime adviser." Trump says military may consider disciplinary action against Vindman Court rejects lawsuit over Trump’s recordkeeping "A federal judge says she has no authority to address claims that White House is ignoring records laws."

ok those are all very valid concerns. but first of all, indeed, both the R's and the D's have made immigration a big issue. and unfortunately, a lot of the issues are concealed by the fact that immigrants vote for D's and hardly at all for R's. so, for R's there is an immigration "problem" in the US but not for D's. that aside... the US is an immigrant nation. immigration has always happened, it fuels the US economy and its not any worse than it has been in the past. the war on drugs is an entirely different issue. the border wall probably doesn't work for that. no, some argue that the "wall" is just an expensive symbol thats kind of a waste of tax payer money. if the US were to spend the same on helping central american countries get their security shit together then its arguable that there would be less of an immigration issue.
