NDP Leading Tories in Newest Poll
Moonlight Graham replied to nittanylionstorm07's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
NDP has 33% in that poll, which I'm sure has younger people among that #. Younger people generally don't vote in strong numbers, and older people (likely not as much NDP supporters) vote in very high numbers, so I'm betting that NDP number is lower than reported when it comes to actual voter support, not telephone answer support. Then again, older people are home more than young people (who often have unlisted cell phones over land-lines) so what the heck do I know LOL. -
If the Star reporter really was spying on the guy, I don't blame Ford & would have done similar. On top of that, the reporter is a wuss because he dropped his cellphone & tape recorder when Ford told him too. I would have filmed the guy go nuts on me and had better story to report!

*crickets chirping* I asked this question to someone else who claimed some people on here were anti-American, I got no answer either. That's because it's B.S. Disagreeing with American government actions isn't being "anti-American". That's similar nonsense US officials and others have used to for a long time to create consent, to make the American people & others fall in line with policy or be deemed un-patriotic/anti-American etc. "You're either with us, or you're with the terrorists" - George W. Bush., Jan. 2003. Maybe Chretien (supposedly) covertly supported US actions in Iraq for fear of Canada being invaded too, or being assassinated.

When is a bailout not a bailout?
Moonlight Graham replied to jacee's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Huh? But if they had more money to make more loans, that means more profit right? -
Obama vs Romney - POTUS 2012
Moonlight Graham replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Ron Paul is very popular among young voters, including anti-war liberals because of his foreign policy ideas. He will most certainly take votes away from Obama too. -

Tell me then, how much profit from interest etc. did banks make from the money the gov lent them? Sounds like help to me. -
Police, seemingly in most countries and especially in Canada, aren't very good at handling themselves during protests. Police in Canada all need to go back to school and learn some new training on the rights of citizens vs police rights, and hammer into these idiots' heads the exact protocols they should use and how to remain "professional" when things get very heated and emotional on both sides.

April 20th, the day the Kony 2012 activists were supposed to "cover the night in red", has come and gone. Didn't hear anything about it in the media, so I guess the Kony 2012 movement hasn't exactly taken off like the creators planned.

Obama vs Romney - POTUS 2012
Moonlight Graham replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Romney VP candidate Marco Rubio is either a liar or quite insane. Here's hoping the former! Also, another Bush in the White House? Let's hope not. -

How about Dick Cheney, Round 3! -
Western-led neoliberalism had extremely little to do with China's economic rise. China wasn't coerced into damaging structural adjustment programs by western states/institutions countries such as those in Africa were. China's economic transformation and turn to international capitalist markets began in 1978, when Deng Xiaoping took power. They used "state capitalism" (aka state-directed), not the type of liberalization Reagan/Thatcher preached. China used a kind of developmental state model, with strong central control of economic development decisions. Like other successful developing states in east Asia, ie: Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan etc., they avoided and distrusted neoliberalism and used a developmental state model of strong government-directed growth mixed with capitalism. I'm less familiar with India. I don't really have to make much of an argument about neoliberalism, it's well-established in the academic literature how devastating it was to developing economies, and and how much it slowed their economic growth.

Never count out thew Red Sox, they're swimming in money and still have a decent team despite all the injuries.

Jack, btw, what made you a White Sox fan? Both Chicago teams suck, but at least Cubs fans have a pretty stadium to look at while they lose.

To Sammy's credit, he did start to fill out what looked to be pretty naturally, with the aid of some weight training most likely, around 1993-1994. He hit 36 HR in strike-shortened 1995, and 40 HR in '96, at age 26 & 27 respectively. Those were likely steroid free seasons IMO, as he didn't start to bulk up yet. He was a big guy in 1998. His HR total went from 36 in 1997 to 66 in '98. I got to see one of those 66 HR sitting just behind the home dugout at Wrigley, & another one at the Big O. George Bell for Sosa is one the Cubs' best all-time trades. Somewhat makes up for us trading away a young Lou Brock for Ernie Broglio.

Chretien says LPC and NDP should merge
Moonlight Graham replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The CPC has a majority because the other left-wing parties have been lousy alternatives in recent years. Of course, the LPC (and Bloc) were so bad the NDP are now the opposition! A decent LPC with a respectable leader, and maybe even a decent NDP given recent polls, can win a federal election over the CPC. Most Canadians are not conservative, but most Canadians do want a half-decent party & leader that can actually govern somewhat effectively, which is what the CPC/Harper better than the others. The LPC needs to dump Rae and find a real leader, and then it will be on its way back. -
Chretien says LPC and NDP should merge

Idea: How about all parties merge into one, then disband it and have all the MP's retire. Maybe their replacements would be significantly better than the dopes we have now. Who am I kidding? -
Chretien says LPC and NDP should merge
Moonlight Graham replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Liberals are out as the ruling gov or the official opposition (in a minority gov no less) for less than a year and now some of them want to merge already? Talk about impatient. They must be too used to positions of power. Be patient Liberals, sometimes you need to take some punches and take the time afterwards to lick your wounds instead of just throwing in the towel. -
I also downloaded 'Nixon' with Anthony Hopkins, looks okay, as well as 'J. Edgar' which is just weird with Leo DiCaprio playing him.

Is Stephen Harper Encouraging Judicial Activism?
Moonlight Graham replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
On another note, a few weeks ago I visited the Supreme Court of Canada. No tours, and not a ton to see, but interesting nonetheless. Parliament Hill is obviously much more interesting to visit. -
Just downloaded this film and gave it a quick preview. Streep does an even better job than I thought she would. Even has the voice down, and the make-up job is very good too.
