  1. There is much going on in Europe not reported by the press, also in Australia. this is worth watching, and I think pertains to the unrest and problems in Europe.http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...e#StartComments More young Muslims back sharia, says poll A growing minority of young Muslims are inspired by political Islam and feel they have less in common with non-Muslims than their parents do, a survey reveals today. The poll, carried out for the conservative-leaning Policy Exchange thinktank, found support for Sharia law, Islamic schools and wearing the veil in public is significantly stronger among young Muslims than their parents. In the survey of 1,003 Muslims by the polling company Populus through internet and telephone questionnaires, nearly 60% said they would prefer to live under British law, while 37% of 16 to 24-year-olds said they would prefer sharia law, against 17% of those over 55. Eighty-six per cent said their religion was the most important thing in their lives. -snip- Nearly a third of 16 to 24-year-olds believed that those converting to another religion should be executed, while less than a fifth of those over 55 believed the same. The survey claimed that British authorities and some Muslim groups have exaggerated the problem of Islamophobia and fuelled a sense of victimhood among some Muslims: 84% said they believed they had been well treated in British society, though only 28% thought the authorities had gone over the top in trying not to offend Muslims. Munira Mirza, a doctoral student at Kent University who wrote the report, said: "The government should engage with Muslims as citizens, not through their religious identity."
  2. That was funny
  3. Hanoi Jane, back after apologizing for her actions in the Vietnam war and helping the enemy. The slaughter has allready started, the insurgents are killing Iraqis with impunity. If the U.S. pulls out now it will be worse. The only solution I can think of is for thousands more troops from as many other places as possible, complete martial law and the borders sealed, that can't last forever either. Someone has to figure out how the US military can withdraw from Iraq without Iraq completely collapsing into worse anarchy. What would be the worst case scenario if the U.S. said they would pull out over the next year, sort it out yourselves. And no woulda, shoulda coulda.
  4. The money comes from the party, not the gov't, and it won't be anywhere near that much besides how do we know if they are actually 'attack' ads. The Tories have raised a lot more cash than any other political party, I believe more than they are allowed to spend in an official campaign.
  5. Oh if you are a woman it matters a lot. Since polygamy seems to work one way. I don't see the issue. Assuming it is legalized it would be a choice, men would have a choice to take more consenting adult wives who would choose to live that way, and vice versa. Polygamy only seems to work one way because women don't choose (to my knowledge) to take more than one husband...
  6. Being serious for a second, please don't use bear bells, it's going to get you killed. Doesn't scare them off, and for predatory bears, they're going to find you faster. Bear bells = biggest falsehood created by the bear defenders. The "I don't carry bear spray because it gives me an unfair advantage" types... I know - you know what they find in bear poop don't you? - you got it- bear bells and pepper spray
  7. Yeah, especially since they killed the spring bear hunt...I need bigger and better bear bells.
  8. Why does it matter, once the definition of marriage is changed its open to additional change.
  9. Indeed. If the Muslims wish to protest gov't policy its their right, but it could backfire on them; not too many people are totally blind to why they don't want support for Israel and what his agenda really is. Isn't Mouammar the same guy who was denouncing Bob Rae for supporting the "daily massacre in Palestine" and having a Jewish wife at the Liberal convention. I have to wonder why the left really hates Israel, maybe they just don't like "uppity Jews" (sarcasm here)
  10. I m Why'd they decide to come back? Probably because Canada has changed for the better and Latin America has changed for the worse. Probably because they have family in Canada. -k Kudos Kimmy
  11. I'm guessing that the attitude towards these people ais because they are of a religious persuasion and not secular. If Canada was trying to deport a number of illegal aliens or refugees, there would be a huge outcry from the 'progressive camp'. Normally I would be the first to say illegals should be deported, but these people are not of that variety, they are losing a citizenship they always thought they had, because of a technicality. These are hard working people who don't break the laws and simply wish to live in peace.
  12. Well, NAO maybe boosting troops etc. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6300855.stm Nato discusses Afghanistan boost Nato troops patrol in Afghanistan The US is promising to up its campaign against the Taleban Nato foreign ministers are meeting in Brussels to discuss stepping up the campaign in Afghanistan, in advance of an expected offensive from the Taleban. The US says it will pour an extra $10.6bn (£5.4bn) into its Afghan effort and that 3,200 troops due to end their tour will remain an extra four months. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice urged Nato members to do more to help.
  13. I don't disagree with that. Since biblical times, however, women are forced into prostitution for whatever reasons. It does not mean that legalizing and regulating would not help improve their lot over what it is now in Canada? I don't see how it improve their circumstances either, although it should cut down on disease. (sheez wouldn't the thought of that make johns think twice) Is there any data showing violence is decreased where prostitution is decriminalized or legalized and do we really need to dignify the sex industry?
  14. How will this factor into the promise of fixing health care wait times, evidently it is not a priority with Ontario Liberals. I wonder what the wait time is for an actual emergency, eg, bleeding to death or a heart attack? Too many people do abuse emergency rooms, going to them when all that they really need is to see their doctors, or take flu pills. The emergency room staff is supposed to use a triage system but my experience with that isn't very good, it seemed to me they didn't have a real concept of triage was supposed to be. A walk in clinic for after hours attached to a hospital would be a solution, rather than more emergency room beds. http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/story.h...2;bd05e&k=55078 Ontario to forgo limits on emergency room wait times April Lindgren, CanWest News Service Published: Wednesday, January 24, 2007 TORONTO Ontario Health Minister George Smitherman says setting limits on wait times in hospital emergency departments will do little to help patients seeking emergency care. We are already having a difficult time," Smitherman told reporters Wednesday, following the release of data detailing long wait times in Ontario's emergency departments. "Applying a standard that may in fact be artificial is not something that we have an interest in."
  15. Personally I would prefer the media raise a clamour about bad government actions and spending decisions, but that is just me. Perhaps if they weren't so busy trying to find an MP who has seen an offensive joke, they may actually get to report real news, like an MP implementing an offensive policy. Good post. The Liberals have their knickers in a knot because it made fun of them; anything to tar and feather the opposition and score points.
  16. A true Liberal LOL Wonder how many more he'll let back in. Wonder if Dion's riding benefited from adscam, we still don't know which ridings they were do we?
  17. Harper has allready given $ towards improving wait times for children's surgery., eventually, there will be a national guarantee of reasonable wait times for children. Rome wasn't built in a day and it is still a minority gov't, and he has allready committed $5 billion for the wait times guarantee reforms. Wonder how he will address provincial jurisdiction in all of this, check this out: http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/story.h...0cbd05e&k=55078 Ontario to forgo limits on emergency room wait times TORONTO — Ontario Health Minister George Smitherman says setting limits on wait times in hospital emergency departments will do little to help patients seeking emergency care. "We’re already having a difficult time," Smitherman told reporters Wednesday, following the release of data detailing long wait times in Ontario’s emergency departments. "Applying a standard that may in fact be artificial is not something that we have an interest in." Smitherman said resolving problems with emergency room wait times "is just about as big as the challenges come in terms of having a well-functioning health-care system." The solution, he insisted, lies in initiatives already being undertaken, such as expanding the number of hospital and long-term-care beds available and improving community health services to better serve people with chronic conditions.
  18. Seems to me there are a number of people who lie, and the loan Khan made was a Liberal problem, which they conveniently ignored. Too bad people are only concerned about it now he is not a Liberal. Assadourian and Leung might not have been paid, but this reflects how the Libs feel about the meaning of a report and responsibility, they obviously place no value on them. Assadourian said in an interview."The whole thing was a lie " at least we know there is a report which we will eventually see. The cost of the trip is well withing treasury guidlines. Who paid for the Liberal NDP fact finding junket to Lebanon. Considering what the Senate committee on National Security and Defense spent on their aborted trip to Afghanistan, its peanujts, not even in the realm of petty cash. The main problem here is that which is generated by the media and the Liberals. Too bad they weren't so eager to report Khan's problems when he was a Liberal. This is a hoot considering the millions of stolen $$$ still unaccounted for from the Liberal gov't. l
  19. Maybe because as a female you cannot join, you feel slighted, otherwise, there is nothing to prove that today Masons are nothing but a frat club, albeit which does charity work. Unless you are a mason or married to one and have insights no one else does, you actually know nothing factual about them except maybe if you read a genuine site. http://www.grandlodge.on.ca/
  20. I'm not sure if abortion when not absolutely for the health of the mother, or not 'medically' necessary should be covered by our health care, it is a choice or an option. They delist other medical procdures but not abortion when its a choice. It is hard to fathom why liberals who are so against private clinics, but don't mind paying for abortions in - private clinic !
  21. Why is this a problem? Canada'a abortion rates are actually lower than countries with more restrictive laws. That suggests that no law is necessat.Where did I say there should be a law, I was just giving some info. for those who might not know. As I've said before, I'm pro-choice with restrictions on late term.
  22. Canada has to be the most liberal country around for abortion as there is no law on abortion. The debate pro and con will go on for ever. All parties know this and not even the CPC will bring a bill forward to limit abortion. http://www.answers.com/topic/abortion-in-canada Abortion in Canada is not limited by law. While some non-legal obstacles exist, Canada is one of only a few nations with no legal restrictions on abortion, and access there is still among the most liberal in the world. http://www.prochoiceactionnetwork-canada.o...ize.shtml#basic There are arguments to the effect that abortion can cause breast cancer http://www.abortionbreastcancer.com/ http://www.abortionbreastcancer.com/The_Link.htm
  23. Evidence does point to Afghanis wanting troops to stay. I don't think there is any doubt as to what will happen if NATO leaves. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6129731 Afghan Leader Wants Canada's Troops to Stay Listen to this story... by Richard Reynolds Weekend Edition Saturday, September 23, 2006 · Thirty-five Canadian troops have died in Afghanistan in the past three months. This week, Afghan President Hamid Karzai told the Canadian parliament that the nation's troops are vital to the peackeeping effort. This is a really good blog, worth a read http://afghanreality.blogspot.com/2006/02/...know-about.html At the heart of the problem lies a serious lack of awareness about and appreciation of the complexities of the obstacles confronting Afghanistan’s post-conflict recovery. No matter how much we might tend to distance ourselves from Afghanistan, the reality is that it is in Canada's interest to stay the course in Afghanistan. There are several significant reasons why Canadians should support Canada's long-term commitment in rebuilding Afghanistan. First, the remnants of the Taliban backed by their Al-Qaeda supporters have recently emerged sturdily in undermining both reconstruction and political efforts aimed at restoring peace to Afghanistan. More specifically, past few months have witnessed an escalation in torching of the schools, orchestration of the suicide attacks and relentless attacks on government bodies, especially in the southern and eastern Afghanistan. In fact, the security issue is so cumbersome that it can not be dealt with by the Afghan government alone.
  24. Here's a link good example of why the age of consent should be raised. Other than that, I suspect eventually polygamy between consenting adults will have to be legal. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/prin...bhub=PrintStory
  25. It is mostly a gesture of defiance, the beginning of standing up to for what they believe in; along with their new Assimilation policies for new immigrants (I believe 6 countries are adopting them) on integration into their host country and what is expected of them.
