  1. You know what I think, maybe if people stopped thinking that everything will get better if only their goons were in charge the country would be better off. Perhaps we should elect people who actually realize that in general individuals and communities are better able to handle their issues than a few out of touch bureaucrats in Ottawa.
  2. Out of curiosity, what's everyones political ideology. If anyone is unsure, the following tests can help narrow an ideological base. http://www.moral-politics.com/xpolitics.aspx?menu=Home Your scored 0.5 on Moral Order and -7 on Moral Rules. The following categories best match your score (multiple responses are possible): System: Conservatism Ideology: Conservative NeoLiberalism, Ultra Capitalism Party: Republican Party Presidents: Ronald Reagan 04' Election: Michael Badnarik 08' Election: Ron Paul http://www.politicalcompass.org/test Economic Left/Right: 9.12 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.08 http://www.politopia.com/ NW-You would feel most at home in the Northwest region. You advocate a large degree of economic and personal freedom. Your neighbors include folks like Ayn Rand, Jesse Ventura, Milton Friedman, and Drew Carey, and may refer to themselves as "classical liberals," "libertarians," "market liberals," "old whigs," "objectivists," "propertarians," "agorists," or "anarcho-capitalist." I'd personally consider myself a libertarian conservative, however usually if asked I'll simply state that I'm a libertarian to help reduce confusion.
  3. What a pleasent fiction you live in. The province which receives the most in equalization payments is Quebec, at around 60%, add in the Atlantic Provinces and I'm certain the lionshare of equalization remains in the east. Arguing that the west is burdensome is ridiculous, especially since the west has been supportive of decentralization.
  4. I doubt it would stack up as nicely as many presume. If their were to be a coalition many 'blue liberals' would leave en masse to the CPC. My preference would be for the left to united, and for our Parliament to have only two major parties encompassing the various factions on the left and the right. As well give more power to individual MP's so they don't feel beholden to the party. However I doubt what I'd like to see would ever come about. I would be willing to accept STV or Multi-Member Ridings along with an elected Senate.
  5. It's legal and constitutional, but not necessarily democratic. If it was democratic the coalition would have been presented to the people of Canada before the election.
  6. He was referencing the popular vote, that is unless the difference between democracy and fascism is 2% points.
  7. I've always had a certain infatuation with the Swiss Healthcare system. It seems like they have the right blend of universality, competition, and innovation, which is clearly lacking in Canada.
  8. I work a fulltime job, yet I've never been so busy that I couldn't take half an hour out of the day to read a newspaper.
  9. I like how Ontarioloyalist is arguing for separation, even as his province gets funding from the three western provinces. However as was stated before, this will be great news for the western separatist cause.
  10. Odd, I doubt you complained about it when the Liberals got back to back majorities with approximately 40% of the votes. I agree, we must exterminate the rich and the kulaks before it's too late. We must also remember that their is a global finance conspiracy which is putting Stephen Harper in power, this group which is made up of a small minority must be destroyed.
  11. Can't say I disagree with you on this point BC_Chick. Such a message is harmful to young impressionable minds. However that being said I'm not in favour of any form of censorship, but I'd like it parents would voluntarily keep their kids away from such unadulterated crap. Personally I'll take Garden State over Twilight anyday. http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.d...VIEWS/811199997
  12. I don't know, from what I've read of history the old USSR had a fairly dismal environmental and human rights record. As for greedy pricks who don't care about the planet or the people living on it, I think that would fall under humanity in general. However, the proper name for the people you're talking about are Sneerists, named after the business tycoon Cyril Sneer. Here's some info on corporatism: http://www.fee.org/publications/the-freema...le.asp?aid=2699
  13. You obviously have no clue what corporatism is, eh. http://www.moral-politics.com/xpolitics.as...lIdeologies.All
  14. I don't really care what the voter turnout is, if someone is too lazy to walk a couple of minutes to their polling booth then all the better for those of us who care enough to stay involved.
  15. Damn that Harper, believing that repeat violent offenders should get tougher criminal sentences.
  16. http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/12/05/poll.2012/ Huckabee might be a great guy, and Palin's a semi-decent governor. However if this is the future for the RNC I can't help but wonder if conservatism will be put back a generation. What conservatism needs are people with new ideas about the future with strong conviction, not some faux-populist drivel.
  17. Thanks Riverwind, my sentiments exactly. I quite frankly don't really care what vices a leader may have, but I'll always choose the leader with vices and sensible policies over the one with no vices and irrational policies. I'd say the strongest thing going for the Liberals would be their brand, and to merge or even have a coalition with the NDP would further damage it. But I really don't mind the thought of the John Manley's, Frank McKenna's, and Irwin Cotler's, moving over to our side.
  18. Smallc, you have way too much intelligence for this place. It's obvious that the only acceptable answer is that either Stephen Harper is a Fascist, or that Stephane Dion hates democracy. Either way, I'm going to get solace from reason magazine.
  19. If it sounds American then it must be bad. By the way, any person who thinks Justin Trudeau has what it takes to be PM is delusional, such support is usually based on one thing only, 'Trudeau.' By the way I like how the sole reason for the merger is to get rid of Harper. However I like the idea of all the blue liberals coming over to our side.
  20. I never knew MP's made comments about abortion and gay rights, it comes as a complete shock to me. Gay marriage or civil unions? I believe one of the fears was that under our enlightened politically correct rulers some religious rights could be sued by HRC's. After all even Macleans magazine was close to being labelled a hate magazine. Yes, and as I recall their were no MP's in the Liberal caucus who were opposed to gay marriage. But it's odd because you argue that you want the progressives to take over the Conservative Party, which really would make them left wing as progressivism is a left wing ideology, yet you argue that any criticism of the current policies regarding aboriginal affairs is somehow anti-Native. I'd go with option 6, which is that you construe any support for tradition, or for that matter any criticism or differing of opinions on issues such as abortion to be comparable to bigotry. Despite the fact that one can be opposed to abortion yet not hold a religious faith or any real bigotry. No, but unlike you I don't automatically assume that any person who believes marriage is between one man or one woman, or that someone who is opposed to abortion is automatically an evil bigot. All you really seem to believe is that you automatically win any debate by screaming "bigot" as loud as you can. As far as I can tell the scoundrel with no substance on the issue is usually the first to yell bigotry. By the way, I believe both Peter Mackay and Bernard Lord have taken views that could be seen as "socially conservative" in nature. However I don't think either men are bigots.
  21. I can't imagine why, out here in the Taliban controlled province of Alberta where men enslave women we tend to be more conservative. I really don't mind it because that means I have more independence than I would in the more nanny state provinces like Ontario.
  22. No, that's the general sentiment coming from the left wing posters on here. It's the same meme that they were going off of in 2004 and 2006, which was basically that if the CPC got close to power all women would be left enslaved in the kitchen with no rights at all. The poster can't argue how the Canadian Alliance were anti-feminists and "anti-Indian." You can't really backup the argument, all you have to do is yell racist or bigot in the hopes it riles people up. That's the same reason why you and the other left wing posters here can't come up with any half decent arguments in favour of your positions.
  23. Does anyone else find it funny that the left always preaches tolerance and understanding, yet they have absolutely no tolerance for people who have a different point of view from them. It's like they simply preach diversity over arbitrary matters, and then go on to argue that diversity of opinion is an evil which must be suffocated in society.
  24. Of course, any person who questions abortion, the reserve system, or for that matter some of the more absurd man haters, have to be bigoted. What we need is a population which in 100% agreement on the status of Indians and blindly accepts that the current system is perfect, and people who never question abortion [Nat Hentoff being the biggest bigot of them all] and those who question some of the more absurd feminist arguments that all men are naturally rapists.
  25. VMG, everything you said simply showcased that we have a Parliamentary Democracy and not Fascist government. Once again bravo, especially when you state the the media is somehow "mis-informing" people, which is idiotic. We don't require another version of Pravda to talk about how the coalition is perfect angels while the CPC are evil fascists waiting to destroy this country one baby at a time.
