  1. ... convicts or people accused of a crime still have the right to have a lawyer and a trial/hearing. It has everything to do with democracty. I dont understand why you dismiss that. It appears that you agree with Cheney in that the process would be too much in your world... Dont be sorry. I did have to look this info up and I could stand corrected on this but ...I believe that the would-be German sabatoogees actually had lawyers and a trial. Not all were executed. A couple of them had their sentences commuted by the POTUS because they cooperated without the need to be waterboarded. I'm now reminded of the Rosenbergs story as well. Well ..... actually he really does bullshit you. The quote of his that I offered you is rather striking evidence of it.
  2. The real incentive should be to build a better GM car and at a lower cost.... One can blame GM's top management for not being successful at that. Perhaps they were too busy doing other stuff...
  3. ...what can I say.....? Neither our poster Shadey or Dick Cheney feel that they should have any legal rights. That crap kinda flies in the face of what we all claim we are...a democracy... This war on terror is a euphemism in the same sense as the war on poverty and the war on drugs. Unfortunately, folks like Cheney believe it to mean that they would grant themselves the power to personally decide what someone's rights are or arent....so to speak... Former VP Cheney always was and still is a very scary guy and should never ever be allowed to be put in that kind of position of power again. This is classic stuff from a guy at the top of a regime that should never have existed in the first place. "He seems to think if he gives terrorists the rights of Americans, lets them lawyer up and reads them their Miranda rights, we won't be at war.' -- Cheney
  4. If the Queen had balls she would be King. I'm gonna save us a lot of time and suggest to you that if those guys I cited were able to be classified as such that their constitutional rights could be taken away, that would have been done. Especially in the days of the Cheney White House. Oh, I forgot to mention.... McVeigh and his buddy were non-combatent terrorists and dont forget the creep at Ft Hood is likely a subversive terrorist....and they all appear to have been given the same rights as any accused person does. Now mind you there are elements in your government today on both sides of the house that would like to bastardize the constitution and remove those rights so that when and if the guy in charge sees fit to do so....he/she will happily do it and Voila!..no lawyer and no trial ....ever....the perp simply dissappears into the night... Seriously, I find it abhorrent when an idiot politicial bleats into the TV camera stuff like ..."We're at War damn it!!! We cant give these people any rights!"
  5. I'd say it was well refreshed...
  6. In spite of his support for Obama and considering the time we live in...it was truly a moronic thing to say.
  7. Explain please...
  8. Of course the airline industry would either go bankrupt or those cheap flights to the Barbadoes wont be so cheap/affordable any more. Hey! Maybe thats what Al-Queada has in mind as their long term plan. Nudge! Nudge! Wink! Wink!
  9. Al-Qaeda's plan has surely got to include putting the NA airline industry out of business. If true, it seems to be on track. I agree with a previous posters comments re the Israeli model. A friend of mine just returned from Israel and the comment was that the airport security is not only top notch, its as efficient as can be. Onward & upward...
  10. Care to respond/elaborate on your assertion....?
  11. First, he wasnt a prisoner of war or an enemy combatant. Just like the Millenium bomber, the shoe bomber, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and now the underpants bomber... they all have access to lawyers and the legal system...
  12. Explain please... My error. I replied to the wrong post. Sorry.
  13. Very informative. Of course I'm only surmising here but it does seem that Abdulmutallab didnt need to be waterboarded to get info from him.
  14. Incorrect. Essentially, the decision taken by the IOC is not under the jurisdiction of Canadian law....at least according to the Supreme Court of British Columbia. Lastly, the IOC had made its ruling to exclude women's ski jumping based on IOC rules. I surmise that women's ski jumping will make it in 2014.
  15. It's amazing how urban legends can flood the internet. One of the forums I attend had it down as the guy being allowed to board without a passport when in fact he had a visa which was only stripped/revoked after the attempted attack.
  16. Explain please....

  18. More than likely. However, it does seem to underscore the thread titles assertion as hitting close to home.
  19. http://www.1800duilaws.com/article/travel_to_canada.asp the Canada Immigration Act says there is a provision that permits discretionary entry: A senior immigration officer or an adjudicator, as the case may be, may grant entry to any person who is a member of an inadmissible class described in subsection (2) subject to such terms and conditions as the officer or adjudicator deems appropriate and for a period not exceeding thirty days, where, in the opinion of the officer or adjudicator, the purpose for which entry is sought justifies admission. I imagine that few will be turned away at the border if the visitor has a DUI conviction.
  20. I am reminded of the TSA security officer who abandoned his post on Sunday at the NJ airport. The video clip showed him sauntering off with his hands in his pockets. The idiot should be fired on the spot....
  21. Havent seen one of those for a long time. Certainly not since the Reformers took over.
  22. He's not a moron...far from it....he's just a very dangerous liar who would toss out the US constitution as he sees fit. He should never again be allowed to get near the White House. "He seems to think if he gives terrorists the rights of Americans, lets them lawyer up and reads them their Miranda rights, we won't be at war.' -- Cheney
  23. It's always amusing to watch posters make stuff up purely out of their own self-importance...
