  1. At the end of harvest on a commune they divy up the rewards. All go home with their share of the food. Glory be! Cut me some slack here Lonius, how do you integrate a primitive system into the world today? Are you going to set up a system so have potatos carried by camels to the Middle East to trade for jerry cans of oil? What I mean by this cheap overdramitization is that capitalism breeds innovation. That is what provides the means to feed and house the billions on the planet today. Observe the standard of living between us and the east. Hugo brought out an example to blow that theory out of the water - Bill Gates. You have no proof as it's words and meaning appear in no ledger. Whatever system you work under religion is a personal thing. I know you own your own business, therefore you are a captilist. Your views are left so I would find myself hard put to say with cetainty that you are a true Budhist. Have you turned your restaurant over to a charity to run as a soup kitchen? No, you may however do the 'Christian thing' and give out free meals for the homeless every so often. I would. It is a great way to help, great way to loosen the soul, great way to kick start others and a great way to go with another capatalistic sin - advertising.
  2. What does the average Joe know about national and international affairs? Zip. What do people like us know about same? Slightly more than zip. The information we have is hours/days old and the background info is stale if it is there as well. The only guage we have on how well a government is doing is by it's overall actions and $ in the bank. It's called leadership, if you have it they make sound decisions with or withut polls. Bush and Blair did that against the will of the people and based on what they though was compelling reason. If you listen to the will of the people then you will quickly find yourself in this position; Referandum #1 - cut government spending to nothing Referandum #2 - increase all government services Refereandum # 3 - do not run a deficit
  3. With a belief system as you imply, I imagine that you hang out with a lot of victims. My SOP is to take appropriate action such as self defense, scream whatever. If after the fact, report to the police and prosecute. If you do nothing, like I said, learn to accept it. No Lonius, it was not directed at the Bush administration. Although it would be nice if you would drop any one of those unpublished volumes of proof that you seem to be unable to find for your flacid arguments. You know, give them a sense of spine, get up and go. At the moment I don't think that even Kennedy's three or four assasins would give you any credibility. Seriously though Lonius, get your act together. Shrimp fondu sounds good with a charbroiled filet. A little Gypsy Kings playing softly in the background while you get it ready. While you are doing it get Loniesss on the comp so that I can able to have a valid argument from somebody at your end. Have pity on us people with backable arguments.
  4. HELP ME! i'M TOO DUMB AND CHEAP TO HAVE PROPER INSURANCE COVERAGE! Get on it right away you! Although the Laurins could afford to have the standard contents coverage (($60,00 at a premium of $20 a month) they chose not to. Please help them for their rufusal to accept reality. Anybody that has proper coverage, take heed; You are a sap. The world will bail you out if the time comes.
  5. Liberal as in bombing the crap out of Kosevo and Iraq right? Lots of talk going on there. We are just as bad or good as they are except we follow, not lead.
  6. Well then, they are far ahead of Saddam Hussein who didn't follow them at all. Yes, being Liberal ensures that we will forever remain powerless to change the world in a way that reflects our ideals. If you don't like something then you must have the power to change it or ... accept it.
  7. Riff my man, you feeling OK? Not only did you post something that made sense to me as I read it in theory, but on second reading it clarified a lot of this whole issue! I am of course pulling your leg with humor but in seriousness, it was great! Of particular note is this: No matter what your view of homos hitching is, it's pretty irrelevent to what our real problems are. Well done!
  8. STORY OF SOLDIER SHOT IN FACE WHILE ALONE IN QUARTERS IN AFGANISTAN I make no judgement on the soldier here as he was shot through the chin with the bullet commng out in the cheekbone. A freind asked me what I thought. I said I did not know as accidents happen. I read the story and was undecided until I read this: The article I read said more about Colonel Tremblay's quote, how 'each soldier is interviewed by a social worker or phsycologist before they leave Canada.' I put my trenchcoat on and paced the room with my pip (Clouseauspeak for pipe) and figured that if it were an accident, Colonel Tremblay would have said: Instead, Colonel Tremblay gives us a disclaimer. Krusty's K'ontreversial verdict ................... - suicide attempt for the individual and ass cover for the military.
  9. Right does not mean greed. Rather, to me it means common sense. How can I help you if you won't help yourself? How can I help you if I am not able to help myself? How can I help you if i am trying to protect myself? How can I help you if you won't make the changes necessary so that my help will change you so that you can become self sufficient? Lonius, 'greed is good.' I know you don't believe that but think about this; if we all lived in Nova Satori's Budhist utopia, how would we get the grain from Sask to the Middle east? Who would fix the airplane that flies it there? Who would fly it? How would we feed the guy who is ten thousand miles from home? You need money to do all this as it is fluid. You can't 'wire' a loaf of bread to a starving Somali. you can't deliver food to the same woman when there is warlords who are not as nice as us or you stealing it on arrival.
  10. No! Really? Gee, have to keep up with the times here, I think we discussed this one a year ago and just the other day. You are safe Lonius. You don't provide any to critique. KEEP GIGGLING 'PROOF BOY' IT'S A EUROPEAN VIEW - ASSINAH.NET
  11. Unlike all other nations on earth who only exist to give, and give and give. France has given so much in order to keep Saddam in power so that they could keep their contracts. Tell me Lonius, is there really a country on this planet that does not exist for any other reason than to serve the people that live in it?
  12. Proof that Saddam was violating the ceasefire resolution(s)? You been in a hole for the last year or so? Read Blix's reports. As for proof. Yes, it would be good if you could provide some, but of course, you won't. Because just like many of Bush's detractors, you don't have it. One of his most powerful adversarys is Vice Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Rockerfeller. He stated in inter office memo that his intention was to gather goods to put Bush down. Has he found anything? Nope. And he is privy to everything the President is so where are you getting this, LOL, info from?.
  13. Guess they liked this one for reasons we have already gone over and over and over and ..... The UN can go carry out the others you speak of, America is busy right now.
  14. Riff, you bring up a good point in comparative savings in lives for energy epended in stopping another dubious activity. As an example, we spend a lot of coin on a useless gun registry that could, if channeled correctly give a safety restraint for every seat on every school bus in the country. What we have is here and now. A bird in the hand so to speak. However, this is an issue that doesn't take much imagination to see how it could afect every human on the planet in less than twenty years or so. Most likely for the worse, even given the transplant benifit. Not only is it bringing forth the possibility of a new form of life with new forms of disease but it rips away the fabric of what we have for eons assumed made us human. Kind of like Gay Marrige for scientist I guess. Lawyers will have a heyday rewriting every property law in the books and so on. One thing I will not enjoy is seeing our traditional unions further erroded as people marry themselves.
  15. Ho hum. Here we go again Riff. What do you think the real reason is that made the US recontinue the Gulf War after Iraq broke the ceasefire agreement, as laid out in UN resolution 687,686 and 678? Here, I'll save you the searching; 686 686 678 On 27 Jan, Blix reported all sorts of stuff still being discovered in Iraq. They were cooperating he said, 'an encouraging sign' but nowhere near the spirit of the orders they had signed the ceasefire with. For a country that was supposed to be free of 'WMD and all quipment, related material and resources' (including dual purpose stuff) thery sure had a lot that was 'discovered' rather than 'turned in.' 687 Seems that this all adds up to a cease fire that was broken by Iraq. Or should I say, never fullly complied with. Therefore, member states (USA, France, Britain and whoever else including Syria, SA and all) cooperating with the government of Kuwait, acting under res 678 para2 "all subsequent resolutions" can simply resume military action. What happened Riff?
  16. Yes, Oppenhiemer is the real villan here though. He invented the bomb. He is at fault for all the world's evils right? Cigarette makers force people to smoke, porn forces you to rape, money makes you steal, food producers give you heart disease and on and on and on. You must be left wing.
  17. SirRiff,Feb 14 2004, 09:15 PM Yes Riff. Suddenly. As you have observed, the US, like every other country on the planet allies itself with goveernments, individuals and organisations that will help them. Saddam SUDDENLY' became a liability. Always good for a laugh Riff. Morale virtue from France and Germany? The guys who supplied Saddam with most of his arsenal and then spoke of how we should go with the UN and sanctions etc? The ones that were standing to lose billions from broken contracts? The French President who was getting bribes from Saddam? Yes, always good for a laugh Riff.
  18. It is not shifting blame. I make no excuses for previous government's alliances. Saddam was a friend at one time to many. Heck, probably even got along with the Iranians at one point. If a man in your company suddenly goes phsyco and becomes a burden, do you keep him on or fire him? Are you then responsible for all his actions? Heck no. Furthermore, is Ford Motor responsible for you being a drunk driver? Is Seagrams? Is Remmington responsible for you holding up a liquor store?
  19. You are about ten year behind the times friend. What is new though is the fact that over 95% of the stuff Saddam used to kill fellow Midle Easterners with was from France and Germany. In defence of the Euros though, I submit that to legally sell a product does not mean that you endorse the purpose for which it may be used. As for apologies, I imagine the US is still waiting for one from Iran for the hostage taking of their embassy.
  20. Don't trip on your keyboard Lonius, I have all the time in the world to wait for your first attempt at presenting facts. I imagine by the time you get back with some obscure Michael Moore article we will have moved onto the Gulf War IV.
  21. You are such a pain in the butt Lonius. I would pull the same crap on you, but you never provide even an inkling of fact. Hence, there is never any to question. Here, I give you a Panamanian site, hope you enjoy the two minutes of searching it took to confirm the same thing I posted above.
  22. Actually Greg, I felt somewhat complimented by the 'Clown' comment. It does take more intelligence to play the fool. Krusty.
  23. I said a simple fact. He won a war. Calm down, the rest are all separate issues from that one fact in that Iraq is day by day improving. No, WMD have not been found. Lots of prohibited equipment, materials and facilities have been unearther though. Enough to justify military action under the UN resolutions. Where are the WMDs? If you are so sure they are not in Iraq where did they go? When did they go?. No, I don't imagine he is. He doesn't get emotional and frothing like the Democratic candidates. He had a problem that he dealt with, one his father and the Democrats failed to take care of. If you look at Greenspan's report of Feb 11 he says the economy is well poised to progress and has exceeded expectations. First off, I never said he would win. However, due to the lack of credible candidates from the Left, he stands on solid ground.
  24. Bush won a war, as I said. Now he is dealing with the peace and is making good progress. You would be hard put to prove that WWII was a right action to one who lost a son on D Day. Nothing is more importent than your loved one so your argument is silly. To counter argue, tell that to the hundreds of thousands of families with loved ones who dissappeared during Saddam's reign, the 25 million Iraqis who now have a chance to choose their future. Prove that it was. There are extensive threads on this assumption that it was wrong. Even Rockerfeller with an agenda of overthrowing Bush and armed with the most sensitive information possible could not prove it.
  25. No, nothing wrong with you. I agree, it is frightening. Yet where is the line of discovery drawn? Truthfully, it is a terrible thing in my mind but, scince it is possible, it will be done. As human knowlege increases geometrily this willnot be the only crossroads we will come to in the near future. Try this one; If health care advances and cloning become a commercial reality and body parts can be grown and transplanted it is not beyond the realm of possibility that a man can live virtually forever. By the time he turns say five hundred, virtually every part of his body has been replaced, even his brain in pieces, one part at a time. His memory or the functions are downloaded into a computor and the replacement uploads that information and he carries on. The question I have is that if this becomes the reality and all parts of the origional have gradually been changed piece by piece and are not the origional, where is the soul?
