  1. But they will elect a Liberal east-coast man? I think you are putting far too much belief into how much the American people know, or care about, the politics of the speaker of the House. Can't really see the Dems taking the House hurting Hillary for the nomination as opposed to any other candidate. This morning's polls have VA, MO and MT all leaning Democratic. TN has Ford Jr. down 7 points. Bad news for him but good news for the Dems.
  2. I apologized for that and placed the polling info in the polls thread. Hit the wrong button when I originally posted this. No need to apologize, I was kidding. It's a new poll, and you can post a new thread. There is no thread that all polls need to be posted to. He shouldn't you anti-Harperistas work together in forming a united front? Good contribution ... as usual Gerry.
  3. These people depend on their paycheques, but have enough excess cash lying around to invest in risky income trusts? Then depend on the income they get from them? Who is losing their job because of this decision? wtf are you talking about?
  4. It does look like that. I am definitely not a "Liberal" supporter, but the Liberal Party of BC is not a Liberal party. They are not formally linked to the Liberal Party of Canada. If I ever move back to BC I definitely will support them ... if they are still around. In hindsight it basically looks like a name change from the Socreds but a little more complex IIRC. In 1991 Gordon Wilson lead the Liberals out of the wilderness. The Socreds under VanderZalm/Rita Johnson collapsed and were looking for a place to park their anybody but the NDP votes. Wilson was a credible option, and IMHO a many who was really trying to offer a third choice between the Socreds and the NDP. When he formed opposition the Socreds took over the Liberal Party of BC and forced Gordo Wilson out to replace him with Gordo Campbell. What was that party he formed with Tyabji? Progressive Democratic Alliance? Then he become and NDP cabinet minister and sorta ran for their leadership... BC politics has become a lot more normal in the last ten years or so. Too bad!
  5. Yes, you are correct. Oops. Thank you. You're welcome.
  6. Here's what he did. Took over the weak Canadian Alliance in 2002 when everybody thought they were a joke. Hell even I didn't vote for Stockwell Day. That man as PM? *shudder* Brought about the merger of the Alliance with the PCs after over a decade of divide that appeared to be handing the Liberals power in perpetuity. Held Paul Martin to a minority in the 2004 election when PM Dithers' braint trust was publicly musing about a 'record majority'. Gotta love the GLBT lobby. The homophobic issue is dead. Harper promised a free-vote in Parliament on the issue. It will happen, and it will lose. SSM will stay. End of story. Mulroney did the same thing with abortion in 1985. Hasn't been an issue since. The old Harper is *scary, scary, scary* line is old and sad. The Conservatives still have more seats in BC than anybody else...
  7. Who will foot the bill on this one? With the gains in the trust index on Friday it appears the dramatic losses about the announce have been reversed in large measure. The lowest 50% of income earning seniors are better off due to income splitting and raising the age credit. After that point there's a large chunk of seniors that break even. Maybe the top 5% of income earning seniors are truly hurt by this...
  8. This proposal has been around for a while. Bringing the party 'in-line' with other social democratic movements around the world. It will happen one day but it isn't a big deal.
  9. Yes, you are correct. Oops.
  10. So you support your selective statement aimed at making this no-change poll look as bad as possible for the Conservatives by picking the "worst" quote you could find in the poll about the Conservatives? How about this quote then? Given the multiple anti-Conservative threads on the board about Income Trust this seems like pretty good news for the Prime Minister.
  11. Let's be clear on one thing. On July 1st, 2006 the tax rate went from 16% to 15.5%. The Liberals had *proposed* cutting it to 15% on July 1st. But they didn't win so it was just a proposal. Liberal propaganda that Harper *raised* taxes is flatly incorrect.
  12. Not hard to tell where your bias comes from with that statement. Leaving it at same old, same old said all that had to be said, but ..... Despite all the Conservative 'scandals' MacKay, Income Trust, people are still in a holding pattern. It will all come down to the campaigning skills of the next Liberal leader. Harper has proven what he can do. Rae is a formidable opponent. The rest of them? Hello Conservative majority
  13. Let's have some actual numbers. I'm going to go with the Democrats winning the House. 225 to 208. 2 Independents. The Republicans barely hold the Senate. 50 - 49 with Lieberman being the one independent. The two closest Senate races will be Tennessee with Ford Jr. winning and Virginia with that Macaca-hating Allen winning. Ford, Jr. winning Tennessee will be a very good thing for the Republicans. He wins and becomes viable for the veep slot in '08 automatically. A Rodham-Clinton/Ford Jr. Democratic ticket gets *crushed* in the general by McCain/Whoever... My poor, poor Democrats. Maybe we can win the White House again in 2012.
  14. Hmmm, but when you said this: it didn't make sense. Part of the deal they signed up for in defending 'this country', was defending this country's best interests abroad ... as decided by the Liberal Government and re-affirmed by a majority vote in Parliament after the Conservatives won. You may not see it as in the country's best interest, but hey that's a democracy...
  15. 1. wtf are you talking about it being the proper Parliamentary tradition? Wasn't it PM Dithers talking about reducing the democratic deficit and disregarding "Parliamentary tradition" in favour of doing the right thing in the best interest of democracy? 2. so the speaker of the House should make members of cabinet vote the way he feels that Cabinet dictates? 3. Let me explic the change of direction. There are many of the anti-Harperistas who stand on 'principles' in cases like this, but there principles quickly dissolve. Power to you for passing that little test. 4. Usint the feminine third person pronoun to describe cabinet ministers in general is pretty weak given that no cabinet Liberal OR Conservative has EVER had a majority of femail ministers.
  16. What a mature and well thought-out personal attack. Seriously though. The Canadian Forces make it very clear in recruitment that overseas service will be expected of recruits. Nobody signs up thinking they will only serve in Canada. Here's a link to the Forces recruiting page.
  17. Don't expect any reasonable debate from him. You'll get slogans and attacks but that's about it.
  18. Kind of, but not really. The Liberal cabinet had to vote with the Government.... Not so free really. So figs are you of the belief that Quebec has had one too many referendums on separation? A vote is a vote and there is no reason for putting something to a vote. That would follow from what you are saying...
  19. Typical leftie response. Pithy, self-indulgent, uninteresting...
  20. Fair question, but would anybody go to a rally like that if they really didn't support the mission? *If* they did wouldn't they bring signs or make their views known on the distinction?
  21. Smart investors will be able to recoup a good portion of their paper losses by the time of a spring election. The TSX's income trust index was up 3.8% today....
  22. Shakey you're a left-wing nutbar, but at least you have a good sense of humour!
  23. Normie didn't miss the news. Call it 'blissful ignorance'. Doesn't fit his view of the world so it didn't happen...
  24. Here is the story. Good work for the supporters of our troops to get out and brave the cold! The boys will appreciate your efforts.
  25. Hmmm, interesting how none of Martin's pieces of legislation were being held up in the Senate. I wonder why that is???
