  1. The same could be said about an incompetent employee. There is a risk that the replacement for a lying, cheating, stealing worker could be worse, but that hardly warrants keeping the one proven to be a problem. We should continually strive for better government and the current one has proven to be problematic. Time to move on.
  2. This isn't an us versus them problem, it's a reason versus religion problem. I am certain that many Islamic theocracies would kill and conquer in the name of their religion if they had the power. The same has been done forever in the name of many religions, including Christianity. North America isn't a theocracy but many parts of the US certainly are getting close. We need to be strengthening walls between the church and state in North America so that we don't add religious fanaticism to the power of the government and military. Historically, religions attack their enemies when they have the power. It's unfortunate that these barriers are currently being eroded and outright attacked by the American right wing. It's even more unfortunate that a major party is encouraging such a dangerous practice for political gain. So, no. We shouldn't slaughter anyone for religious reasons. We should first get our own shop in order, by continually reducing the power of religion over government and then continue to promote reason and the end of theocratic rule worldwide.
  3. Us? Who belongs to this group you are calling us?
  4. Isn't that what all religions with enough power do?
  5. So the Pope says those that manufacture or invest in guns are not true Christians. Uh oh, I see a schism coming. Republican Jesus is about to move out of big daddy's basement.

  6. When did they make a big deal about her transformation? The candle and her escape is the active start of her transformation.
  7. Jon Stewart's powerful and emotional opening monologue from Thursday night perfectly sums up the ridiculous attitude the US right holds with respect to racism, terrorism and guns. "I honestly have nothing other than just sadness, once again, that we have to peer into the abyss of the depraved violence that we do to each other in the nexus of a gaping racial wound that will not heal yet we pretend doesn't exist," Stewart said. "I'm confident, though, that by acknowledging it — by staring into that — and seeing it for what it is, we still won't do jack shit. Yeah. That's us. And that's the part that blows my mind." "We invade two countries and spent trillions of dollars and thousands of American lives and now fly unmanned death machines over, like, five or six different counties — all to keep Americans safe. We've got to do whatever we can — we'll torture people. We've got to do whatever we can to keep Americans safe. Nine people shot in a church, what about that? 'Hey, what are you going go to do? Crazy is as crazy is, right?' That's the part that I cannot, for the life of me, wrap my head around. And you know it's going to go down the same path." "The Confederate flag flies over South Carolina. And the roads are named for Confederate generals. And the white guy is the one who feels like his country is being taken away from him. We're bringing it on ourselves. And that's the thing: al-Qaeda, all those guys, ISIS, they're not shit compared to the damage that we can apparently do to ourselves on a regular basis." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJl9iqnvkOE
  8. This is the body double, Rebecca Van Cleave. It would take some serious courage to do that scene, but roughly 1,000 women applied for the role.
  9. Harper certainly did play us all for fools...so we cast aside the cheating, liar and move on. The opposition party leaders are all talking about implementing rules to prevent the kind of secretive, closed door governments run by Harper. It's important to keep striving for better, accessible, transparent government, Harper is just a waste of our time.
  10. It seems that we certainly do consider Islamic extremism as terror, but right wing extremists like this white supremacist are somehow considered less severe or dangerous. Here is a good example; check out how senator Lindsey Graham responded to two extremists, both of whom are US citizens: Boston attack: "This man, in my view, should be designated as a potential enemy combatant and we should be allowed to question him for intelligence gathering purposes to find out about future attacks and terrorist organizations that may exist that he has knowledge of, and that evidence cannot be used against him in trial. That evidence is used to protect us as a nation." Charleston attack: “I just think he was one of these whacked out kids. I don’t think it’s anything broader than that,” Graham said. “It’s about a young man who is obviously twisted.”
  11. Bazinga! Unfortunately those jobs are hard to get. Typically black people make up a much smaller percentage of the police force, than the communities they patrol.
  12. Come on, it is common form of communication to treat serious issues facetiously. You missed the obvious sarcasm, suck it up and move on.
  13. We will need more information as the technology is tested and evolves, but Musk has predicted a hyperloop could be built in California for only 10% of the cost of that high speed rail project. The 'Hyperloop' Would Be 10 Times Cheaper Than High-Speed Rail The possibility of faster, cheaper, cleaner and safer high speed transit is exciting. It's nice to see it moving forward.
  14. My mistake for saying two leaders support science, when there are three. Though Ms. May and the Green party have no hope of forming a government they do have sensible attitudes about science and evidence. May introduced a bill today that would make muzzling government scientists illegal. The bill would make all publicly funded scientific research publicly accessible by law. Ms. May stated: “My bill will ensure that no prime minister can ever bury government science again. While this problem is not new, the Harper years have seen a shocking burial of evidence into places where Canadians will never see it. The work our scientists do is too important to be hidden from view, simply because it is inconvenient to the Prime Minister’s agenda. The challenges we face require an open and transparent engagement with the facts.” http://elizabethmaymp.ca/elizabeth-may-introduces-open-science-private-members-bill/ Three leaders support honest, transparent access to scientific information and Stephen Harper would rather bury information that doesn't gel with his unreasonable, oil sector backed, ideology.
  15. Fox News and the US right are already labeling this as Christian persecution and calling for churches to be armed. Yes, again they really believe the answer to a racist killing black people, with a gun given as a birthday present, is more guns!
  16. Millions of people already fly so I don't see that as a big deterrent. I suspect windows will be replaced by LCD screens to give the illusion of space. Here are some concept cabin layouts put out by an Austin based firm. http://www.businessinsider.com/a-hyperloop-pod-design-that-makes-travel-comfortable-2015-6
  17. SpaceX is actually building the Hyperloop test track outside of it's California headquarters. The possibility of emission free, solar powered, high speed transit is exciting. A high speed people mover coupled with local transit and electric car share programs will be a major step forward, but I think the cargo loop will be the real game changer. http://motherboard.vice.com/read/its-official-spacex-is-building-elon-musks-hyperloop

  19. On one side we have two potential PMs that claim they will support and respect science, research and evidence, then on the other we have Harper that has proven he will not. Do you really support the concept of ideology before evidence?
  20. During an interview Kit Harrington said "I’ve been told I’m dead. I’m dead. I’m not coming back next season. So that’s all I can tell you, really." So I suppose the Warg angle is possible. A Warg has to be controlling their puppet when their body is killed to live on after death. Like Orell the wildling who took control of the eagle as he was dying. It's possible that Jon isn't completely gone yet so Ghost could walk up and become possessed. Though, I am still hopeful that Kit isn't being honest with the press to setup a more suspenseful resurrection.
  21. “We find that increasing the income share of the poor and the middle class actually increases growth while a rising income share of the top 20 percent results in lower growth—that is, when the rich get richer, benefits do not trickle down.” - IMF

  22. Mastodon - White Walker I don't mind Mastodon but I wouldn't call myself a fan. My neighbour saw their show a few weeks ago which prompted me to listen to them again. I just found out they made a brief appearance as wildlings on the Hard Home episode of GOT. I suspect they didn't require much in the way of make up or hair alteration.
  23. Harper promised the same thing once..so what's the problem? Does JT seem too trustworthy for you? Cue another thread dedicated to ignorant misconceptions of how a proportional electoral system would work...the details of which do not yet exist as they would be decided by an all party committee.
