Stephane Dion's deal with Elizabeth May in Nova Central
hiti replied to Canadian Blue's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This is a poke in the eye of the NDP and if things work out alright, the left will unite. Plus this riding is full of "Progressive" conservative that Peter McKay shafted. A very sweet way for them to get their revenge on Peter "pants on fire" McKay for selling out their party to the Reform/Alliance. Once the election campaign starts, Dion's full platform will be revealed. Right now he is not taking any opportunity for Steve to help himself to another Liberal program. Green party 2006 platform; http://www.greenparty.ca/en/platform2006/intro ...not bad. Better than the NDP. -
Softwood deal apt to implode, trade envoys say Paul Marck, CanWest News Service; Edmonton Journal Published: Thursday, April 12, 2007 EDMONTON - The six-month-old softwood trade agreement trumpeted by the Harper government as the solution to a major irritant between Canada and the U.S. likely will not survive its seven-year mandate, say the former chief negotiators for both sides. "This agreement does not provide for long-term resolution of this dispute," said Doug Waddell, a former federal assistant deputy minister for international trade. "The agreement will not be durable ... the dynamics going on in business are changing so quickly," added Grant Aldonas, former U.S. undersecretary for commerce. Aldonas said the Bush government was desperate to negotiate a solution to the lumber standoff, after losing five international trade rulings in Canada's favour. "It was clear ... the U.S. was on the losing end of the litigation," Aldonas said. Hank Ketcham, president and CEO of West Fraser Timber, said Canada was within months of winning litigation before Ottawa jumped the gun and went along with an agreement that industry did not want, but saw as a lifeline in order to get $5 billion in duties returned. "On the whole, I felt this agreement fell short of what we could have arranged," said Ketcham. http://www.canada.com/topics/news/story.ht...a9635c4&k=66271 No wonder Emerson doesn't want to run in the next election. He would get his head handed to him. Plus he left $1 billion in the US for the lumber industry to use against Canada in the next round. Harper has no national commitment to Canada. We are just a means to an end for his own glory. He can puff out his fat chest and say he signed a soft-wood lumber agreement that the Liberals didn't. See what a brilliant pm Steve is. See Steve be pm. Barf!

Military police probe DND contracts Employee fired over irregularities in transport deals worth $100M James Gordon, The Ottawa Citizen Published: Wednesday, April 11, 2007 Military police have been called in to investigate irregularities surrounding almost $100 million worth of National Defence transportation contracts. Section 34 of the act essentially requires a designated person in the department to certify that the work was done properly, for a fair price and under the terms of the contract. The audit found Section 34 certification was non-existent on paid invoices related to 13 of the 109 sampled contracts and "questionable on a high percentage of the remaining invoices. "More than half the sampled air, rail and sea contracts either did not include a contract ceiling, or the ceiling had been exceeded without benefit of a contract amendment," it added. "Invoices related to 39 per cent of the sampled contracts included charges for items not mentioned in the contract and 24 per cent did not include supporting documentation for third-party charges." The audit pointed out every rail carrier hired by the government billed for items not contained in the original contract. http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/s...7d-548e04da8e8d Steve better call an election now before the voter catches on to the corruption in his "new" government. Wait til Sheila's report comes out.

New York Times links Prime Minister Stephen Harper to American far Christian right Edited Iain Mackenzie Over 20 candidates and members of Parliament for the Conservative Party of Canada, including leader Stephen Harper, Justice Critic Vic Toews, Foreign Affairs Critic Stockwell Day and Firearms Critic Garry Breitkreuz, have had on-going links to organizations established under the umbrella of the Council for National Policy (CNP), an American group that the David Kirkpatrick in a New York Times article on August 28, 2004, calls a “club of a few hundred of the most powerful conservatives in the country.” Robert Dreyfuss in the January 28, 2004 edition of the Rolling Stone reports that the CNP -- which is not well known in Canada -- has “funnelled billions of dollars to right-wing Christian activists.” Several years before Stephen Harper would become Prime Minister of Canada, he reportedly addressed CNP members in 1997 at its meeting in Montreal. Reportedly, the effort to impeach then U.S. President Clinton was conceived at this meeting, as reported by Robert Dreyfuss, “Reverend Doomsday,” Rolling Stone, January 28, 2004, Addressing the elite group is no small feat, given that guests may only attend meetings with the unanimous consent of the Executive Committee, as confirmed by David Kirkpatrick, “Club of the Most Powerful Gathers in the Strictest Privacy,” New York Times, August 28, 2004 edition, and specifically on p 10. Since Mr. Harper’s address, links between Conservative Party members and groups sponsored by the CNP like Focus on the Family, the Christian Coalition of America and the National Rifle Association have grown. In turn, these groups have taken an increasingly forthright role in influencing Canadian politics through radio broadcasts, Canadian affiliates, and training for grassroots advocacy efforts in support of Conservative Party candidates. This should perhaps come as no surprise given that the Vancouver Sun estimates that “roughly half the current 98 members” of the Conservative caucus “are religious social conservatives,” which is “well over double the national average.”6 It suggests, however, that powerful forces may be affecting the distribution of political power in this country about which Canadians may not be aware. http://www.agoracosmopolitan.com/home/Fron...4/10/01485.html http://dawn.thot.net/harperstiestousa/ Text of Stephen Harper's speech to the Council for National Policy, June 1997 http://www.cbc.ca/canadavotes/leadersparti...per_speech.html And this is what we have as PM. What a shame.

Didn't blame Chretien. Just said he has shown the way to do win and hold power effectively. If that's what you think but there were other factors involved with Chretien's wins. A divided right, Mulroney and the ads making fun of his face, then the other one about PMs fromn Quebec.

I'd hardly call myself a Harper supporter. Many who are atacking Dion on this issue are.

Quote-But for the Conservatives to suddenly reassert their sanctimonious holier-than anybody disdain of professional arm twisting and message-massaging just for the election is instructive, insightful --and hypocritical. -end quote So before and after an election campaign it will be business as usual for Steve and his elite. It is only during an election when 90% of the voters start paying attention the the clowns in Ottawa. Hey it's all the fault of the Liberals. LOLOLOL

It's all Chretien's fault. Right.......

Poll: More practical way to deal with Climate Change
hiti replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
What is wrong with this planet is that too much of our forests and too many trees have been destroyed allowing the build up of carbons. -
He offered seats after being prodded to do so and only late in the game. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...03?hub=Politics So once again, I say both the PM and the Opposition were asses about the whole thing. So once again I say that Dion had a previous committment and Michael Ignatieff will be attending Vimy in France instead. http://www.cnw.ca/fr/releases/archive/Apri...7/04/c2114.html Dion also felt it was personally important for Ignatieff to attend the service at Vimy because his father had been the Canadian representative on the 50th anniversary in 1967 when he was U.N. Ambassador. (not France as I had previously said) Plus the Opposition was not invited to attend -officially- and were not invited to be part of the ceremony but just audience props for Steve. But I can see that by attacking Dion the harpercrites feel better about what a lousy leader Steve has turned out to be and how Steve has turned even Vimy into a political photo-op for just himself.

The kids did go on the taxpayers dime. School divisions, city governments, provinces and some federal grants are all paying for the trip. Harper had no excuse for not inviting the Opposition to the delegation. Dion had no excuse for not going. Pox on both their houses. CBC Dion the French citizen should have gone to show his appreciation of Canadian soldiers. There is absolutely no excuse,he should have pretended he had balls. Dion had been invited to take part in a ceremony in Montreal. Steve should have had the decency to invite the Opposition party leaders. This action by Steve shows what a low down *&^ he really is.

Harper had no excuse for not inviting the Opposition to the delegation. Dion had no excuse for not going. Pox on both their houses. One media reported that the students raised the money themselves for their trip. Dion is busy at a memorial in Montreal and could not attend the ceremony at Vimy. Instead he asked Ignatiff to go since Michael I's father was the Ambassador to France at that time. M.I. is not there officially as only Steve and his family are on the official list. The Bloc and NDP are also sending an MP to "unofficially" represent them.

Why is Danny Williams knocking a sweet deal?
hiti replied to Michael Bluth's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Not only did Steve lie but he also put a cap on equalization payments while he grabs back half of the oil revenue from NL, SK and NS. Meaning there is no incentive for these provinces to increase their oil production and better the economics in their province. Better to leave the oil in the ground of under the ocean. No excuses will excuse the breaking of a promise and the lies that this "new" government keeps on shoveling out. -
There's nothing to these waiting-time guarantees Canada's new waiting-time guarantees for health care are a gigantic hoax perpetrated by Ottawa, with the provinces' help. The Conservative government had a promise to keep, and Prime Minister Stephen Harper declared this week, "I'm proud to announce, we're delivering." The guarantees raise an obvious question: How stupid does the government think voters are? Stupid enough that they will jump at the eight-week maximum wait guaranteed for cancer radiation therapy in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia by 2010? Canada's health ministers recommend a maximum wait of four weeks. Radiation oncologists say a wait of no more than two weeks between diagnosis and treatment is recommended. So the guarantee is four times the ideal and two times the existing government target. It's a promise of cold pizza or your money back. http://tinyurl.com/27jlbo The above article sums it up pretty good. What Steve is delivering is a joke. It's amateur time in the PMO. Too cheap to do it right. Too stupid to know the difference. Not thought out. True hallmarks of Con governance. And the platitudes that Mulroney wasn't to blame for taking Canada to the brink of bankruptcy is hilarious. Lyin' Brian himself said that he shoulda cut spending. It is Paul Martin's $41-billion over 10 years for health care that is bringing down the wait times and Steve's misery $612-million is beyond a joke.

Promise Made, Promise Altered Good news for those of you who are unwell – so long as you are unwell in a very specific physical and geographic way. Stephen Harper, who last year pledged guarantees “to ensure that all Canadians receive essential medical treatment” in a timely fashion, announced yesterday a plan that might ensure that some Canadians receive one type of medical treatment in a timely fashion. Wow – fulfilling promises sure is easy, especially if you’re not too obsessed with the fulfilling part! Harper told a health policy conference: “During the last federal election campaign, I and my party made a clear and unequivocal commitment to Canadians.” And now the time has come to take that commitment and make it equivocal. Very equivocal. Canadian Press reports that the so-called “guarantees” – quotation marks: the official punctuation of sarcasm! – will cover only one service in each province, not the whole gamut of essential services as was promised. Also, the guarantees will not take effect until 2010, assuming the Tories are re-elected. And it is not clear how or if compliance with the guarantees will be assured. Plus, look over there – hey, is that a Sasquatch?! [sound of footsteps running away. A door slams, an engine roars, and a car speeds off.] http://tinyurl.com/ys8rkw Not to mention that by 2010, Manitobans will only have to wait 4 weeks to receive cancer treatment wheras today they may get treatment within a week or two. Great job Steve.

Why is Danny Williams knocking a sweet deal?
hiti replied to Michael Bluth's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
CBC, CTV, the Globe and Mail and the National Post have all done stories on how Williams is hurting business in NL. Read the budget. www.fin.gc.ca Are you kidding? I am suppose to wade through 700 some pages to find the point you are using to prove your argument? LOLOLOL How or what Williams is doing to business in NL has nothing to do with Steve shafting him on the Atlantic Accord. Different issues. -
Why do our soldiers have older equipment? Because Canada was left to clean up $40 billion deficit and the cold war ended. Which meant all nations over the world were spending less on their military. And don't ever mention that our soldiers went to Afghanistan equipped with the best vehicles that saved them when they were hit with road side bombs and bombers. Vehicles that a Liberal government supplied them with. Now the following is interesting..... Quote: A simple example: the Afghan Women’s Society wanted money to purchase sewing equipment to make blankets to sell to raise money to buy more equipment and train more women to make more blankets to sell to buy more equipment to train more women, etc. They came to us looking for money. The Afghan National Police Force came to us looking for blankets to issue to their men in the field. We have many connections with the international organizations and non-governmental organizations who are interested in investing money in worthy and charitable causes that benefit local communities. So, we propose a project to an organization. They like it and donate the money, which we give to the women to pay for the equipment to make the blankets. The women make the blankets and give enough to the Afghan National Police to outfit their field officers, while selling the rest to facilitate their production and training cycle, which increases employment, which bolsters the economy. -end quote. I have read the above example many times this past year. And I was wondering if the soldier who wants us to know what it is like has any other examples than the above repeat. While we should respect and appreciate our military, they are not pawns to be used for political advantage.

Why is Danny Williams knocking a sweet deal?
hiti replied to Michael Bluth's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
One Steve spinner in a national newspapers does not change the truth. And Danny Williams will not be letting this one die. Michael Bluth, I can see by what you are posting that you really have not searched out the facts here and just keep throwing out platitudes that distort the facts. May I suggest that you google for information and then come back here armed with the truth in your defense of your leader. -
Just how does this "competent" (cough) "new" government lose 174 files for a year and not know it? Now if I were moving into an office, I would be opening boxes without checking if they had someone else's name on them because I would be expecting that all boxes in the office were mine. Finding dishonest behaviour on the part of another political party or politician is part of politics and nobody is going to cover up for their political opponent. Stockwell Day proves he is incompetent by leaving his old files behind and not even bother to try and find them. But again we have the Harperites blaming the Liberals. Everything is the Liberals fault. They made Day leave his office stuff lying around. It was the Liberals who made this "new" government leave their personal files and not bother to look for them. Bad Liberals.

Why is Danny Williams knocking a sweet deal?
hiti replied to Michael Bluth's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Ignored? Not in the least. The Atlantic Accord has been completely respected. Not true. Williams has to give up the Atlantic Accord in order to receive equalization payments... or lose a bunch of money. Nova Scotia also got the shaft. Quote: "The government is a poison pill. If we opt into the new formula we lose the accord and jeopardize the future prosperity of Nova Scotia. If we maintain the status quo we are shut out of new money for the people of Nova Scotia," MP Robert Thibault said during question period. That is disgusting blackmail from Steve. First he calls Atlantic Canadians losers and then he takes away their independence. -
Why is Danny Williams knocking a sweet deal?
hiti replied to Michael Bluth's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The slime here is Steve. He ignored the Atlantic Accord and that is the problem. For every spinner to twist the facts in Harper's favour, there is still the truth. Quote: Premier Danny Williams has been roiling because the federal budget delivered two weeks ago only allows the province access to a newer, more generous equalization program if it gives up the Atlantic Accord. That accord, signed with the previous federal Liberal government, generated millions of dollars of revenue each year for the province because it excluded oil revenues from equalization calculations. Williams has accused Prime Minister Stephen Harper of breaking a campaign promise by introducing a new equalization formula that includes 50 per cent of non-renewable resource revenues, as well as a fiscal cap. -end quote. Harper lied and put NL back on federal handouts instead of allowing that province to keep the Atlantic Accord and become self supporting. The simple fact is that Harper lied and shafted the ROC to buy votes in Quebec!!!! -
Don Martin, National Post Published: Thursday, April 05, 2007 OTTAWA - In what can only be spun as the token cleansing of a guilty conscience, the federal Conservatives have decided to ban lobbyists from their campaign war room. That's serious ingratitude for a government that depends on lobbyists to salvage its controversial messages and lousy media relations, but there are clearly some bedfellows too strange when voters are being wooed for a majority mandate. What's even stranger is the dramatic attitudinal adjustment in Stephen Harper, who stopped viewing "lobbyist" as a dirty word the minute he became "Prime Minister". To be clear, there's nothing illegal about lobbying, even under the Accountability Act should the Harper government ever get around to putting tighter lobbying restrictions and reporting requirements under the eye of an independent Commissioner of Lobbying. And there's also no arguing most lobbyists are far better at communications than any MP and usually more plugged into decision-making than the Conservative backbench. If reporters want a heads-up on a next day news story or background to a decision, they know better than to chat up the PMO when they can get the facts faster from a plugged-in lobbyist. But for the Conservatives to suddenly reassert their sanctimonious holier-than anybody disdain of professional arm twisting and message-massaging just for the election is instructive, insightful --and hypocritical. Perhaps they should heed the senior party official who raised this question in 2006: "How can you be sitting in a room giving advice and then go back to being a lobbyist a week later?" That Conservative was John Reynolds, future Conservative campaign chair and now a registered lobbyist for a pair of charity causes. The short answer to his question is, you can't. So why even try? http://tinyurl.com/27zpam So this is an example of Steve getting it done....... say what he will do, pass laws and acts and then shelve them instead of implementation of parts of the Accountability Act that interfere with his drive for a majority. This Harperite government is nothing but a Con job........ liars, hypocrites, scamers and con artists.

Nor can the opposition that's supposed to be ready to replace it. Dion needs to keep a tight leash on Holland, he already lost the Liberals their chance at a couple Edmonton seats with his big ignorant mouth. What did he say? And where did Angry get the picture that he posted on his blog?

Then... Liberals offer guaranteed health-care wait times http://www.cbc.ca/news/story/2006/01/04/Ma...are-060104.html Waiting for the Cure In September 2004, promising to "fix medicare for a generation," Prime Minister Paul Martin pledged $41.5 billion to the provinces over 10 years to hire more doctors and nurses, and find smarter ways to reduce the increasingly long waiting lists that were undermining Canadian support of the health-care system. http://www.cbc.ca/canadavotes/realitycheck/wait_times.html Now.... All provinces to provide wait-time guarantees in one area Harper, who spoke to medical professionals at a conference in Ottawa, said the provinces and territories will provide the guarantees by drawing upon more than $1 billion allocated in the March federal budget. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2007/04/04/wait-times.html So now we have Harper announcing that cause he is so wonderful, by 2010 Manitobans will only have to wait four weeks to get radiation therapy. Except that Manitoba has been working on this problem since 1990 and their cancer patients often are being treated within one week. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto.../BNStory/cancer So Steve to the rescue for cancer patients in Manitoba. Under his supreme leadership cancer patients in Manitoba will soon only have to wait four weeks for their treatment. LOLOLOL
