Hiti, If you really insist on trying to pretend you are two different people I suggest you should log in with each screen name more frequently. Long stretches with only one or the other logged in is the big give away that you do indeed have two screen names. Just tryin' to help you... Good night hiti. Just so you don't frustrate yourself in the next few days..... I am heading back to work tomorrow and probably won't be back here until next week..... if I have time. Or I might be able to squeeze in a few minutes just to see how you are holding up. That's why the long stretches. Work. You know... to get money, to pay for food and shelter and that sort of stuff. I only ever have logged on here under one name. Later Michael or Ricki or whoever you are. Stay away from that koodaide. Nasty stuff. Who's Doing What.... enjoy your posts.

Harper to appoint Brown as Elected Senator
hiti replied to Michael Bluth's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Not only was Brown in a dead heat with Unger but nearly one in five ballots spoiled in Alberta Senate elections. More than 170,000 Albertans, or nearly 19.3 per cent of the total number of those who went to the polls on Nov. 22, rejected or spoiled their ballots. Total waste of $3 million. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2004/12/02/...tors041202.html Steve's Bill C-43 continues this made in Alberta pseudo democratic reformism. It is all about appearances not real Senate reform. First Harper appoints an unelected Montrealer to be in Cabinet as Public Works Minister by appointing him to the Senate. Thus his minister can avoid public questioning in the house. Next he calls for term limits for Senators, then he calls for a bill that would encourage the PM to appoint elected senators, when only one province has made this an issue and ever held an election. The rest of Canada could care less. And for good reason. -
Proof? Source? Or are we just supposed to take your word for it? Read the papers, online if you like, who reported that very fact. And don't spend all your time stuck in maple leaf posting negative one-liners to everyone who questions your hero. http://tinyurl.com/2vuroq Wonder if Stevie uses Rimmel eye liner. Guaranteed not to run. Easy on the lipstick, cowboy. http://tinyurl.com/3ddktu

Widow pursues PM's benefit pledge Woman, 80, presses demand for home care promised by Harper as opposition leader GLORIA GALLOWAY From Thursday's Globe and Mail OTTAWA — Stephen Harper wrote to Joyce Carter when he was leader of the Opposition to say a Conservative government would "immediately" extend a national home-care program to widows of all veterans of the Second World War and the Korean War. Two budgets have come and gone since Mr. Harper's party took office and Ms. Carter, an 80-year-old widow from St. Peter's, N.S., is still waiting for him to keep his promise. "While I'm alive, I am going to keep at him," she said yesterday in a telephone interview. "He's not going to get any peace from me until he does." Ms. Carter is concerned that the Veterans Independence Program is not available to widows whose husbands died before 1981 or who failed to apply for it while still alive. The program provides services such as home maintenance, housekeeping and personal care. http://tinyurl.com/22mzo8

You know what happens to those who speculate... ass/u/me...... Martin and Chretien did not, I repeat DID NOT, have image consultants. They only used make-up artists when required to appear on tv or commercials. I am always truly amazed at the twists that Harperites will get themselves into to justify just anything from their master.

Harper to appoint Brown as Elected Senator
hiti replied to Michael Bluth's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Fortier was appointed to the senate so he could be a minister in Steve's government without accountability to the House of Commons making him an unelected minister in the government. No other Liberal senator has that kind of role. Dion said that "the prime minister wants an elected Senate without clarifying what dispute mechanism will be used to settle disputes between the two chambers” He also said that bringing in a form of an elected Senate without addressing the inequalities in the number of seats assigned to each province is a serious mistake. In 2004 when Brown became a senate elect, so many voters rejected or refused senate ballots that Brown only received 14% of the votes, 714,709 ballots in total were cast for all senate candidates. And actually Betty Unger received more votes than Bert Brown in 2004 so why did Steve not appoint her? Is it cause she is a women? -
Harper's "new" government corrupt military contracts.
hiti replied to hiti's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Don't be absurd. There is a vast difference between altering and extending a legitimate contract as required and passing brown paper envelopes filled with money across tables in dark Italian restaurants. Even the Liberal Party has admitted they got kickbacks from unneeded contracts and funneled it into the campaigns of unnamed MPs. When did the liberal party admit that? Provide the link. -
Baird is not taking into account the economic spin off on the manufacturing, buying and constructing emission controllers or retooling for lowering emissions. He is also ignoring the buying and selling of carbon. An example given on Politics with Don Newman was..... it's like someone has contracted to build a basement and then makes the contractor use a spoon. This report is full of hot air just like the Clean Air Act was. Make Jack Layton take it into committee and rework it so it reflects reality.

“We must clean up corruption and lift up the veils of secrecy that have allowed it to flourish,” Mr. Harper said a year ago. Steve really should fire her. http://www.insurancebroadcasting.com/040306-p5.jpg And lose 50 pounds and the mascara. Wonder if Ms. Muntean uses VolumeExact by Cover Girl. "A government official justified the refusal to provide more details by saying accountability is meant to prevent people from stealing, and was not intended to apply to staffing issues." Stealing bad. Lying okay.

Harper to appoint Brown as Elected Senator
hiti replied to Michael Bluth's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You conveniently forgot to add that Brown is 69 years old. A six year term is among the proposals for elected Senators. Interesting how in Dion's criticisms he addressed the subject of the Maritimes being over represented compared to the west in the Senate. So what did Dion compare the over representation of the Maritimes to? And what about Fortier? Nothing to add? And wasn't Steve going to have a senate election every two years or was it every four years? That would mean Brown would need to hit the hustings at 73. -
Harper's "new" government corrupt military contracts.
hiti replied to hiti's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Some of that was paperwork errors, but there was a suspiciously high amount of money that wasn't accounted for at all, and of course, the Liberals used Public Works as their major patronage outlet - not that you ever complained at the time, of course - and a lot of very suspicious contracts were let by them for work of little or no value. In addition, there has been no suggestion of political involvement in these contracts, most of which pre-date the current government anyway. Thanks for the lesson. Maybe now the others will understand that even adscam was not Liberal politicians or the Liberal party filling their pockets. This was individuals within a department skimming, just as this "new" government has found their lobbyist turned Minister has a problem within his military contracts. What this proves is that politicians are not always qualified to be in charge and senior civil servants or heads of departments should be more responsible for their departments, as Gomery suggested. But I think we'll continue to hear........ the Liberals did it and they are worse than we are. -

Fri 30 Mar 2007 09:24 PM EDT Some surprising news late this afternoon -- the United States has formally complained to Canada about softwood lumber -- accusing Canada and the provinces of paying illegal subsidies. You may have thought softwood lumber disputes were supposed to be a thing of the past but critics of the deal signed in late 2006 will be saying this is just what they predicted would happen. The U.S., late this afternoon, alleged that $2-billion worth of aid that Canada and the provinces are providing to the softwood industry in Ontario and Quebec is illegal. So, the U.S. is seeking either more restrictions on the amount of Canadian lumber that can be exported to the Canadian market or they want more export taxes slapped on the wood. In any event, it's a sharp negative for the industry which thought it had won some lumber peace with the U.S. when it and Canada agreed to the controversial deal. What may be even more frustrating is that Canadian industry gave up certain rights in the softwood lumber agreement that might help it win the current dispute. For example, the years leading up to the softwood lumber deal, Canada and Canadian firms won one victory after another in a variety of American and international courts. But Canada agreed to throw all those judgments out as part of the softwood lumber deal so if any Canadian company wants to use the courts to challenge the American view, they will not be able to use those earlier judgments to buttress the case. Expect some political fallout on this news. Prime Minister Harper made a great show of proclaiming peace with the Americans on this issue and clearly there is none. His political opponsents on this issue will say his attempts to forge a relationship with Washington that was different from the Liberals seems to have been for naught. Harper’s first trip as Prime Minister, of course, was down to Washington to get U.S. President George Bush to personally put his weight behind the negotiations. International Trade Minister David Emerson's reaction tonight -- and I should say this was in a press release issued at 7:10 pm (Ottawa time) a Friday night — a time when organizations will often announce bad news that they hope gets ignored -- Emerson's reaction is that this is an administrative issue and, as he said in a statement, “We expected that such administrative issues would arise.” But some say that’s like saying, “Pk, tomorrow I'm going to punch you in the face” and then tomorrow, after you get slugged, you you shrug it off by saying, “well, ok, that was to be expected." http://politicsblog.ctv.ca/blog/_archives/...30/2847439.html -end quote So Steve took Emerson as his pawn, plus the Softwood Lumber deal that Paul Martin had rejected and pushed Bush to force an agreement, leaving $1 friggin' BILLION on the table to ensure he gets his photo op and bragging rights that "he gets it done" while the Liberals dithered. In doing this, Steve royally screwed over the Canadian lumber industry AND removed their tools for fighting back and protecting themselves. What a great (sic) leader this Steve is. Words cannot describe how disgusting this "new" government is and how much Steve needs to be replaced. -
Actually before the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, we had the our constitution and the Bill of Rights from 1960. But the Bill of Rights had limited effect, nor was it a constitutional amendment. The 1982 Charter of Rights and Freedoms is an entrenched and therefore pre-eminent part of the law. The ineffectiveness of the Bill of Rights was the main reason that it was thought necessary to adopt a Canadian Charter of Rights entrenched in the constitution. Canadians are very fortunate to live in a country where they have their rights entrenched in the constitution.

Another 400million in conflict of interest by CPC
hiti replied to Catchme's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
From the article. Don't ignore the part in the article where it states that CGI's bid is much higher than Powell's firm. And for Fortier to award this bid to his old buddies is definitely a conflict of interest but that minor detail never stopped Steve and his cons before. We must just listen to the words and not mind the actions. We must just listen to the words and not mind the actions. We must just listen to the words and not mind the actions. We must just listen to the words and not mind the actions. We must just listen to the words and not mind the actions. We must just listen to the words and not mind the actions. We must just listen to the words and not mind the actions. See.... now we can give Steve a majority. -

Harper's "new" government corrupt military contracts.
hiti replied to hiti's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I work for a living and don't have time to spend sitting on my butt and educating you as to the difference between ad agencies billing for non-existent work under Liberal and Mulroney governments and this rail carrier hired by the this "new" government billing for items not contained in the original contract. We also remember all the Cons screaming at Jane Stewart when her department had "accounting" errors.... amongst the list of Liberals wrongs like patronage, using military jets at $15,000 per hour, and a host of disgusting accusations hurled at Liberals which are the exact things that Steve and his cons indulge in, plus more. By now we all know that Steve is all mouth and no accountability or integrity. As far as it goes..... adscam and railscam sound very much alike. And it's been 14 months since this "new" government campaigned on cleaning up government and they have had plenty of time to "clean" up everything......... including railscam. But they haven't even implemented their own accountability act. So kimmy.... defend your railscam cons all you want. This "new" government's house of cards is falling because all those words were dishonest. -

Garth Turner wants to see full income-splitting
hiti replied to Pat Coghlan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Better solution would be lowering the tax rate back to Paul Martin time and go lower, raising the GST 1%, and raising the personal exemption back to Martin time or even higher. Too many families only have one person to rely on for support. -
SOoooooooooooooo............................ Report this............ After spending millions attacking Dion, claiming to be perfect/righteous compared to Liberals while trying to hide all the scams, patronage AND being the biggest spending "new" government in history, the Harperites are lower in the polls than they were on election day and word is out that Steve is closing his big fancy campaign war room. And I haven't heard that "new" government lingo lately. Has the shine dropped off exposing the crud underneath? And will the hypocrisy also now stop?

What about the stylist employed by Chretien and Martin? Only employed when they were to appear on tv or in ads. Their wives did the job in between or maybe they just had the style and sense to buy clothes that fit properly and were ironed. And kept the weight off so they wouldn't have to wear over sized suites to hide the bulging belly.

"Does the prime minister have difficulty sleeping at night wondering whether he should wear the light blue socks or the dark blue ones?" New Democrat MP Judy Wasylycia-Leis asked in the House of Commons, to loud hoots and claps. "Can the prime minister tell us who pays for his fashion adviser, and how much that costs?" Liberal MP Garth Turner also took a shot at his former boss: "It's a legitimate question. I think it's an embarrassing one to him because he likes the cowboy image and not all cowboys wear powder." LOLOL So much for Steve accountability. Webster should rewrite the definition for accountability or add a new word... con-accountability; we demand accountability from everyone else but we will do what we want and hide it from view and if any of the potted plants say anything they will be severely punished and their names changed to Garth or Belinda.

From the Le Devoir, the Quebec newspaper with sovereignist sympathies, http://www.ledevoir.com/2007/04/12/139117.html “Daniel Paille is a person who got a lot of attention during his short political career in Quebec. Notably, he let the mayor of Montreal, Pierre Bourque, know that he (Paille) was opposed to the opening of a daycare across the street from his residence and he did this in a letter written on official stationary from the ministry of Industry, Commerce and Technology which was his department at the time. Later, he was forced to apologize to the national assembly. […] He was also the father of the controversial Paille plan to assist the start of new businesses. Due to the bankruptcy of more than a quarter of the businesses that benefited from the plan, the Quebec treasury lost 116.5 million dollars.” -end quote I think that Steve outdid hisself this time. LOLOL Rex Murphy had a good take on this ridiculous "accountability" by this "new" government on tonites National. From Paul Wells blog: http://forums.macleans.ca/advansis/?mod=fo...&so=1&ps=0&sb=1 And this guy is going to investigate Chretien's polling? Hahahaha.... I thought that Steve was such as political strategist. Seems like his brain got lost at his last photo-op.
