Dion shows his true colors on CBC's 'The Hour'
hiti replied to SamStranger's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The sentence was not lowered from 15 years to 9 years because the sentence was too harsh. Quote-the Quebec Court of Appeal ruled in a 2-1 decision this wasn't among the worst sexual assaults that have ever been committed,... Instead, the Crown asked that the accused be declared a long-term offender, meaning he will be monitored for the maximum 10 years after his sentence has been served. -end quote So the guy still gets 19 years in and out of jail. -
During the election 2005 Harper said: “On Iraq, while I support the removal of Saddam Hussein and applaud the efforts to establish democracy and freedom in Iraq, I would not commit Canadian troops to that country.” http://washingtontimes.com/op-ed/20051210-...6478r_page2.htm By saying this, Harper was clearing trying to cover up the fact that he supported Canada joining the coalition of the willing. Here are examples of Steve saying he wished Canada had been part of the coalition of the willing. “On the justification for the war, it wasn't related to finding any particular weapon of mass destruction. In our judgment, it was much more fundamental. It was the removing of a regime that was hostile, that clearly had the intention of constructing weapons systems. … I think, frankly, that everybody knew the post-war situation was probably going to be more difficult than the war itself. Canada remains alienated from its allies, shut out of the reconstruction process to some degree, unable to influence events. There is no upside to the position Canada took.” (Maclean’s, August, 25, 2003) "We should be there with our allies when it counts against Saddam Hussein." March 26 2003 7 days after the war started, some two weeks before the collapse of Saddam’s regime." http://www.thetyee.ca/News/2004/05/20/So_W...DID_Harper_Say/ So where is the lies of omission? Saddam Hussein has long since been removed from power. His government fell on April 8 2003 and he was fished out of Spider hole in December 2003. Yet Harper speaks as if it were not already a done deal. By speaking of the Saddam regime in the present tense rather than in the past tense he was able magically go back in time and state his position was that he will not send troops to help overthrow Saddam. Imagine that the Swiss had declared in 1948 that “we support the removal of Hitler from power.”

Liberals would cut Income & Business Taxes
hiti replied to gc1765's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
In 2000, Paul Martin cut taxes by $100 billion. http://www.fin.gc.ca/news00/00-015e.html#Budget http://www.fin.gc.ca/news00/00-094e.html In 2005, Ralph Goodale cut taxes and spending by $39-billion. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2005/11/14/...-eco051114.html Highlights * Rate for lowest income tax bracket to be reduced one percentage point to 15 per cent, retroactive to last Jan. 1. * One percentage point reduction to each of the middle tax rates by 2010. * Increase in the income level at which the top tax rate applies, starting in 2010. * Immediate $500 increase to the basic personal amount of income all Canadians can earn without paying federal tax. * A Working Income Tax Benefit for low-income earners starting in 2008. * Elimination of the federal capital tax for business next year — two years ahead of schedule. http://tinyurl.com/2y7bcn So what will Steve and Jimmie "borrow" from the Liberal budgets? I know that I saved close to $400 in my tax bill for 2005 but in 2006 my taxes on my pay stub increased. -
Chuck Guite was nothing but a minor civil servant during Mulroney's time just more hyperbole - and Mulroney has been cleared - but of course you know that He has been cleared? More like a coverup and you know that. Tory Guite was put in charge of the ad program cause that is what he did for Lyin Brian.

Come on, someone had to teach them . You're absolutely right. Proud mamas. How many here can afford filet mignon, fresh shark or tenderloin? No wonder those fat cheeks (both top and bottom) in the government benches are so red and plump. Airborne menu still tony under Tories OTTAWA - Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his cabinet will be dining from a menu of filet mignon, salmon steak and roast tenderloin of pork when they fly on the government's fleet of Challenger executive jets. Specifications for a catering contract for the executive flights, obtained by CanWest News Service, detail the meal plans required when Harper, his staff and other senior government officials travel on the Department of National Defence aircraft. The menus were specified in December, when the government reissued the requirements for potential suppliers to cater for the Challengers. When the contract was last tendered, in 2003, the Conservatives denounced then-prime minister Jean Chretien's government for "unchecked arrogance" in its selection of in-flight meals. The requirements for caterers specify three main dishes: filet mignon with sauteed mushrooms, grilled salmon steak with lemon butter, and roast tenderloin of pork with sauteed mushroom sauce. They are offered with accompaniments such as Parissiene potatoes and carrots Vichy. Desert options include black forest cake, apple pie, and cherry cheese cake. The tender document also specifies a cold plate with jumbo shrimp and a cheese tray with brie, Camembert and Saint-Paulin cheeses. The documents require potential bidders to also provide prices for a long list of substitutions that include veal cordon bleu, chicken brochette, fresh shark, fresh red snapper, green bean almandine, florentine of vegetables, and pumpkin pie. Bidders were required to submit a price list of other cheeses, including Roquefort, Neufchantel, and Gruyere. http://tinyurl.com/387vnx

More of Steve's lies. His mama must be so proud. PM's allegation riles Liberals Goodale livid over patronage charge made against MPs Mar 02, 2007 04:30 AM Susan Delacourt Ottawa Bureau Chief OTTAWA–Prime Minister Stephen Harper appeared to take some liberty with facts yesterday to allege patronage charges against two Liberal women MPs from Montreal. In what Liberals are describing as an "un-prime-ministerial" pattern emerging in the heat of partisan debate, Harper accused MP Marlene Jennings of putting her spouse on the Immigration and Refugee Board and alleged that Lucienne Robillard, a former immigration minister, had installed her ex-spouse on the same body. "We are putting in place a new selection system so we do not have what we had before – like the member for Westmount-Ville-Marie (Robillard) appointing her former husband as a member of the board, like the husband of the member for Notre-Dame-de-Grâce-Lachine (Jennings) as a member of the board," Harper said. He repeated the allegation in French, accusing Jennings, too, of making the appointment. If either were true, it would represent a serious ethics breach, especially on Robillard's part, since she was the minister responsible for the board. In fact, Robillard's ex-husband, Jacques Lasalle, was appointed to the board in 1990 when Brian Mulroney was prime minister, and Jennings' husband, Luciano del Negro, joined the board in 1996, before his wife was first elected to the Commons in 1997. http://www.thestar.com/News/article/187460

Uhhh, because they broke the law and stole our money to finance their election in Quebec... never revealing to us who was elected on the use of stolen money. All those who broke the law have been charged, brought to court and judgment rendered by the legal system. They are in jail, bub and Liberals across Canada are not guilty for the sins of a few. A few who were devoted Torys when Mulroney was in power. How the h*ll do you think the the former Tory Chuck Guite learned how to skim $$$ off the top except under the tutelage of Lyin Brian? Speaking of brown envelopes....... what did Brian do with the ones he received for Airbus? And was this the only time? Steve shut down any more probing into these affairs.

He's a far better liar than Dion. His God hates liars.
-
This is another example of the lying and drive by smears of Steve and his conservatives. As Ralph Goodale says they are a, "bully who stoops to "character assassination ... slur, innuendo, falsehood and personal abuse" to score cheap political points." And when they are caught in their lies.... like the canceled cheques from the Liberal party paying for personal use of the jets, there is no virtues displayed or retractions given. Seems like Steve and his conservatives do not have a hint of decency in their bodies. No sense of what is right and wrong. No compassion. No honour or honesty. Not even any dignity or self-respect in lying about the Liberal party and its MPs. Their mamas must be hiding their heads in shame at the lack of ethics and morals displayed by Steve and company.

Protecting security and rights with equal vigour The Liberal Party of Canada will not be intimidated away from its agenda of protecting Canadians' security and their human rights with equal vigour, certainly not by the personal attacks of Prime Minister Harper and Mr. Kay. - Stephane Dion is leader of the Official Opposition. http://tinyurl.com/yrzwwq Steve is still in his corner and when he is backed into his corner his mask slips.

Name those elements or admit to scandal mongering. And why do we need those two provisions to compensate for shoddy police work by the RCMP? Also why have the RCMP not used these two provisions to invoke investigative hearings these past three years since the acquittal of the two suspects they finally charged? Steve would like to suspend civil rights in Canada. Even cancel the Charter of Rights and Freedom. It is good that Canadians have Dion to stand up for our rights and freedoms.

Jeff Sallot, writing in today's Globe and Mail, shows the prime monster was merely blowing smoke: "What's changed in five years? Even immediately after the 9/11 attacks, many MPs were never convinced that authorities needed the extraordinary powers of preventive arrest and investigative hearings. "Liberal MP Irwin Cotler, a law professor and civil-liberties crusader, says he swung back and forth on the issue. It was one of those questions on which people of good will could honestly disagree. "'It's a judgment call,' he said. "He and many other MPs insisted on building procedural safeguards into the Anti-Terrorism Act. The extraordinary powers, for example, could be used only with the explicit approval of a federal or provincial attorney-general. Police and judges couldn't go off willy-nilly on their own, holding people and interrogating them. "Even with these safeguards, many MPs worried that once the powers were on the books, it might be impossible to get rid of them even if experience showed that they were never needed. Thus, a five-year sunset provision was included in the legislation, specifying that the powers would lapse unless the House and the Senate renewed them with a parliamentary resolution. "As it turns out, the powers were never invoked in the past five years. The RCMP report they have quietly disrupted several terrorism plots in that time without ever arresting anyone. "However, two other terrorism cases have attracted attention. An Ottawa man, Momin Khawaja, was arrested here and charged with conspiracy in a plot that was being hatched in Britain. He is alleged to have offered to build a bomb trigger for the British conspirators. "The other high-profile terrorism allegations -- also still before the Ontario courts -- involve 18 men. Last year, police rounded them up in the Toronto area and charged them. "If the police and security agencies are correct, they've successfully foiled more than a dozen plots without ever resorting to the extraordinary arrest and investigative powers." -end quote Steve's fear mongering didn't work because Dion and the Opposition parties believe that Canadians deserve their rights and freedoms. So roll your eyes at that. Steve thinks that civil rights should continue to be suspended to compensate for shoddy police work. The RCMP bungled its first investigation by destroying evidence; it has had three years since the acquittals of two prime suspects to invoke investigative hearings. Why hasn't it? Its defenders say there wasn't time; witnesses are hard to locate.

CanWest News Service; Vancouver Sun Published: Wednesday, February 28, 2007 OTTAWA - The Conservative government said Tuesday it takes "very seriously" and is investigating allegations from one of its own MPs that the Department of Fisheries and Oceans is breaking the law to fund scientific research. In a letter delivered to Fisheries Minister Loyola Hearn last week, B.C. Tory MP John Cummins claimed the government is refusing to abide by a Federal Court of Appeal decision last year ordering the government to end its practice of using proceeds of industry fish sales to fund research. Cummins, recently booted off the House of Commons fisheries committee because of his opposition to government policy, said DFO may in fact have committed a criminal act. Hearn wouldn't comment Tuesday on the substance of the allegations. http://tinyurl.com/3yn97t Looks like John Cummins will be joining Garth Turner with Steve's boot print on his backside. Good excuse for Steve to lose a vote and call an election. He'll be 1 vote short of winning a vote.

That was an excellent report that the Senator produced on Afghanistan. Even though Steve tried to bar them from reaching their goal of being in Afghanistan and forcing them to stay at the military base in Dubai. Some of the Senators slipped through to Afghanistan at a later date and were able to finish their excellent report. Disgusting how Steve is spreading his dictatorship all over.

After all the 9-11 hype, this law went to extremes but the good part was these two sunset clauses. Canadians with Dion won their rights and freedoms back while Steve lost as his mask slipped and his petty, nasty persona was exposed.

Harper has no shame, no decency.

Harper called hypocrite over usage of jets PM once accused Liberals of overusing Challengers, but used one to fly to hockey game Last Updated: Thursday, March 1, 2007 | 12:49 AM ET CBC News Prime Minister Stephen Harper has been flying in military jets to Conservative events and even a hockey game — despite having once railed against their use by the previous Liberal government. Invoices obtained by the Canadian Press show Harper flew Challenger executive jets three times in 2006 — and the Conservatives only fully reimbursed the military for one of the flights, which are estimated to cost more than $2,000 per hour. Other prime ministers — like Conservative Brian Mulroney and Liberals Jean Chrétien and Paul Martin — took Challenger jets to government events and to events on behalf of their respective political parties. However, opposition politicians were quick to accuse Harper of being a hypocrite on Wednesday, recalling his past comments such as a 2005 jab at Martin and his Liberal government. "As they pad their expense account and look out the windows of their $11,000 per hour Challenger jet flights to B.C., they think that everything is going pretty well," Harper then said. "They just don't get what real life is like for ordinary Canadians." According to invoices obtained through the Access to Information Act, Harper and six staff members used a military jet to fly from Ottawa to Moncton, N.B., for a Conservative event on July 26. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2007/02/28/jet-harper.html Steve just has no shame.

At least the Senators are fighting back. Keep up with the arrogance, Steve. Your mask is falling off as you show Canadians what a dictator you really are. Next we will see our Charter of Rights and Freedoms canceled.

That is NOT true, in fact it is the opposite I've showed you the decision on the provison twice now. Your being completely dishonest now. I'm beginning to hear something along the lines of Dion's, "but it's not fair!!!" The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 to uphold the use of the act. End of story. Using a page out of Dion's book, the Liberals must be against the judiciary and have no faith in our judges. Disgusting!!! Funny how Dion ignores his party: Funny how you keep on leaving out the part where the SCC said these provisions did not violate the Charter "as long as" they respected existing laws of rights and freedoms. By themselves these provisions were not acceptable. So you can roll your eyes all you want but leaving out key parts of the ruling is dishonest. Steve could have had his extension "IF" he would have accepted amendments to protect the rights and freedoms, but oh no.... he wants to play politics. He wants the Opposition to pass these provisions and "then" he will study them. The Opposition knows they cannot trust Steve to do what is right and honest for Canadians and that he would "never" bring forth any amendments to these provisions if they had voted with the government. As the Dion told Steve.... he is welcome to bring to the House his recommendations for amendments for these provisions and they will vote to reinstate them. The Liberals are not going to implode over this vote. In fact they have been brought closer together as a team under Dion's leadership. Irvin Cotler said that he abstained from the vote because he did not agree with either side, especially the government's refusal to accept amendments to these provisions.

And when their lies are exposed Steve's Cons are ..... oh so quiet.

Hey Paul Jackson........ I know you read that, so why aren't you defending your slanderous lies?

Note: Justice McLachlin says, “it does not call for the abdication of law.” Meaning that is unlawful in Canada to throw someone in jail indefinitely without charging them. She also says , “with fundamental democratic values that respect the importance of human life, liberty and the rule of law.” Meaning that it is unlawful to harass a citizen of Canada by forcing them to say things, like the torture chambers that Arar was subject to. So even though the SCC did say that the Anti Terrorist Act was not against the Charter of Rights, they DID voice parameters for anyone who used 83.28. Gee... wonder how many American Muslims would agree with the 12% who say that “feel that the attacks would be justified” and Bush has all those harsh laws plus his own private jail of hell at Gutomino Bay. Paul eats too many of the worms in the bottom of his tequila bottle.

Or maybe it's the fact that crime really wasn't reported much in 1962. I'd say the problem is poverty and lack of education and training opportunities and drugs.

Would-be Tory candidates could run afoul of elections law GLORIA GALLOWAY From Monday's Globe and Mail OTTAWA — Conservatives who want to be candidates in the next election could seemingly run afoul of their government's new Federal Accountability Act. The party's rules governing nominations demand that aspiring candidates put up bonds worth $2,000 that could eventually end up in party coffers. But the Accountability Act, which became law on Jan. 1, changed the Canada Elections Act to stipulate that the maximum annual donation any one person can make to a political party is $1,100. Elections Canada refused to return repeated calls over several days to clarify whether this could constitute a violation of the Elections Act. http://tinyurl.com/2vn6ax Ahh... but Steve got rid of the head of Elections Canada, so why should he worry??
