Canadian Identity: un-American
Jerry J. Fortin replied to Sniglet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The USA is the land of opportunity Oleg, always has been and likely always will be. The other side of the coin is that its kinda harsh down there for lots of folks. They don't have the social safety net system we have up here because they don't want to pay for it. That is why our tax load is so high. Those taxes do a pretty fair job of helping folks out up here but that doesn't mean that people not working are living in luxury. -
I will call that bullet number three.....starting to stack.

Maybe not Harper....but the "No good bastard's" remark from one of his MP's is not going to sit very well. -

Look folks the problem here is the division within the scientific community. It is causing all kinds of provinces and some global effort should be made to FIX this problem. The scientists need to be onboard as the expert witnesses so we can take their position as an accepted fact. Untill that time we will argue till the cows come home.

Sales Tax/HST/GST - Other People's Money
Jerry J. Fortin replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
My first choice would be to eliminate all income taxes, personal and business and replace those revenues with a consumption tax at the federal level, an GST on roids so to speak. -
Afghan prisoner abuse trial
Jerry J. Fortin replied to Sir Bandelot's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
There is a fine line that the Americans drew to define torture, that line has been almost accepted as fact. To my mind it is not just physical pain that constitutes torture. Please keep in mind that old line do unto other because our folks can be taken captive as well. Especially in times of conflict we need to hold ourselves to an almost impossible standard just to protect our own troops. -

Making Outsourcing Work for Canada
Jerry J. Fortin replied to whowhere's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The only way forward is to create "new jobs". There are two ways to do that, with private companies or through public effort. Crown corporations both federal and provincial can do this. Yet the questions is bigger than any solution yet proposed and that is what do we do? Do we compete on international levels ? Do we produce goods or services? -
Well go ahead and make the most of it that you can then.

All good and credible concepts, just about exactly what he should be proposing at this point. -
The current round of trough hounds hasn't produced much benefit lately. On the other hand there is lots of room to be worse off than we are now.

Yet his point about bleeding jobs and revenue is problematic. We are losing jobs and revenue, and something does need to be done about it. -
You think its bad there now? Wait until California legalizes weed and the biggest selling product there is "BC Bud".

It seems to me that fronting that kind of cash is about as close as we are going to get to an admission of guilt in the "no new tax" line we are now getting from the Harper government. -

The future is in manufacturing. Production based on available resource material and designed for targeted consumption. The answer is in automated production. Use our talents to design and construct facilities to fabricate the items we desire at lower costs. We become engineers and tech reps, software and hardware designers. We make things out of plastic and we make things out of wood. We start sewing hemp and we sell textiles and ropes. There all millions of ways out of our current problems, we just need to think outside of the box. -

Money is what you work for. Money is what business works for. Tell me something, if you owned a business and could save 90% on labour by contracting out would you? -

While I am sure there are many people with attitudes detrimental to either French or English speaking Canadians. I have a French heritage myself but am living in the land of the red neck. I personally don't give a damn about language rights. I am against federalism because in my view Alberta is getting screwed. I don't hate Canada, or any part of it. I just think that Canada could be doing a better job of its politics. I think there were numerous great French Canadian politicians, very passionate about their politics. I do have no use for how the people of Quebec treat other Canadians in the Federal government. I do not think the Bloc is a legal "federal" political party. I think Quebec cooks its books and defrauds the Government of Canada. I wonder why Quebec Hydro gets the treatment that it does. I wonder how Quebec can have a language law that appears to be inconsistent with the official biligualism of the land? -

Last I looked the average wage in India was something like 20$ Canadian a day. Now how in the world do you expect to compete with that? -
