  1. The fact is that there are more than likely trillions of dollars from all over the world at stake here. Most of those are citizens tax dollars I might add and we all know who collects and spends that, our halo wearing politicians. Lets not turn this around and start burning books or painting the scientists with a big wide brush. The science is unclear on this, that leaves the politicians to sort it out. Ultimate blame rests with them.
  2. You advocate a preemptive nuclear strike?
  3. It looks like its over .....for now anyways.
  4. Yet my identity BEGINS with my nationality. For some it may be some form of ethnic or religious consideration but for me it is my nationality. After that the things I hold in common with my fellow citizens place me within that unique group of citizens called Canadians. Those things include my love of the land, the history of my nation and our place as a northern people. Part of our heritage is tied to the native folks who lived here before us, and part of our heritage is from those non natives who pioneered this land. Indeed part of our heritage is from all of those nations that our forefathers left to come here. Yet the reality is that we are the sum of all those parts, and still more.
  5. I think the entire thing is buried in male bovine excrement. The sky is falling was a childrens tale, nothing more. At least until recent times.
  6. I checked my birth certificate, then I checked my passport, it seems I am Canadian. You should check yours too. It seems my passport is recognized around the world and my birth certificate anywhere in Canada. Frankly I don't give a damn about the opinions expressed as those of the first nations. I respect those people as individuals and hope they accord me the same respect. As a group we are all Canadians according to any law you can find.
  7. What does all this have with to do with Canadian identity?
  8. Bottom line is that we can't change what has already happened. Adapt or die.
  9. Does this mean my dish fees will go up?
  10. There is an up and comer by the name of Trudeau....
  11. I have been saying the same thing for some time. Adapt or die.
  12. I am going to work less often, not enough available managers to run the trains. Traffic is stacking up all over the place and only certain trains are running.
  13. AS of 0001 Saturday, the engineers at CN are on strike. They are members of the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference, and they have been without a contract since Dec 31 2008. The company has begun to arbitrarily impose new working condition on the membership without negotiations.
  14. I must disagree. We couldn't prevent an attack on Halifax! The Alaska Army National Guard is composed of approximately 1850 soldiers and maintains 77 armories and other facilities, more than 1,400 highly trained citizen-airmen in the air national guard, and another 1500 in the coast guard. Alaska has less than 700000 people in total with 4700 in "National Guard" status, not including full time military units. Canada with a population of 33 million has about 65000 military of all kinds and another 26000 reservists. Do the math....
  15. According to the article we have NOT bought the new jets and are just investing in the development of the JSF project. A decision in the summer of 2010 is expected by Lockheed Martin as to whether or not Canada does buy the planes.
  16. This MP was out of line, period. Its the way he choose to respond that is problematic. That same response can be expected from most members of the Conservative Party. When you find one that doesn't talk that way, be happy. Otherewise just keep voting to the right and realize what you get for it.
  17. Look folks, our military looks the way the Americans want it too. They didn't and still don't want us to have any kind of potential threat up here. Its that simple. They just want our money, nothing more and nothing less.
  18. I hope everyone expects to be either paying more tax or having a larger debt, and at the same time we better all get used to the idea of program funding cuts.
  19. I must agree there is pause for thought here. How much money has been spent already and how much more is planed to be spent with inaccurate data. Why not have a full blown public "RESEARCH PROGRAM" put into place and have weekly reports on progress. Lets hire the best Canadians seeking PHD's in the subject and have them straighten this out.
  20. An elected representative simply should not say things like that. Those fools need to be held to a higher standard.
  21. You folks are missing the point. Which is the inappropriate mouth on this fool. Whether or not the issue was true or false has not a single once of weight. The way he was making his point as in through his speech was in error.
  22. He can try, but I don't think its going to work.
  23. I am not sure about that. They need police, but they need an army as well. Let the cops take care of the civil issues, let the army take care of the military issues. Before anything can happen in that nation they need a functional revenue stream for government operations. The only thing they can and have grown there that will provide that revenue stream is the poppy. The world uses mega tons of the stuff for medical purposes every year and it is time to recognize that little fact. There is a way for them to go forward and look after themselves. They need power and water and water treatment plants. They need schools and hospitals too. Now how are these things going to be paid for? Lets start thinking outside of the box.
  24. Welcome to the reality of the nanny state.
