  1. How can you be sure of collusion? If you and I both sell lemonade on the same street, is it collusion if I raise my price immediately after I see you post a price increase of your own? Flawed?? You just do not like the outcome. If it is flawed, what is the criteria by which it should be perfect? Proving collusion is often dificult because it rarely occurs. Collusion is not necessary among intelligent people who work in the same market.
  2. Why? Because they are Leftists? or Because they do not collect taxes? or Because they are fighting fire with fire? or Because they oppose corrupt governments? One thing that right-wingers rarely realize is that oppression leads people to resort to violence.
  3. All kidding aside, it would be better to hover your cursor over the link and copy the link location. Open a separate browser and paste the link location in the address field. That way, the spammer's server logs will not directly associate your interest in herbal breast enhancers with the Maple Leaf Forum.
  4. If that is the case, my proposal: still stands. I could look at those same actions and interpret them differently: the haggling provides consequences to people for their actions behind the wheel.
  5. More power to him. From the same article: I am interested too and I DO mean in a good way!
  6. I have only anecdotal experience. I can not generalize. I have been in a few multi-vehicle accidents in my life. In each case, who was at fault was obvious. The brokers read the police reports and called the other driver's broker. Brokers called back within minutes. There was never a delay because the police reports were black and white with respect to who was at fault. How do you expect the "governement insurance" to handle a police report that was NOT black and white? You are right. It is a tax if you are forced to have insurance.
  7. Who said that? You are changing the subject! How do you propose we demand better when our fellow comrades stick their heads in the sand and categorize government waste as "just because they are not right in your face, doesn't mean that they don't exist and that you don't need them"? or Do you think pork-barreling is a "necessary evil" that must go hand in hand with socialism? You are mixing apples and oranges in a vegetable soup. Nobody is forced to buy shares. No. The fact is, that as long as people are not forced to buy shares in your ridiculous example, your ridiculous example is irrelevent.
  8. I think that is a bad excuse for being blind to government waste. We should demand better and we can.
  9. That is a ridiculous and untrue statement. You are not being serious. Actually, that is completely wrong. He was at the forefront of presenting his ideology of modern life in real economic terms. You are just fear-mongering.
  10. If that is the case, there is a barrier to competition. Whatever that barrier happens to be, you need to find it and get rid of it. Using government ownership as a solution to divide profits is the height of absurdity and irresponsibility. It would be cheaper just to raise all of our taxes and make the government payout all accidents.
  11. You are a sucker for democracy. That attitude is exactly what politicians can exploit to waste our money.
  12. Who exactly are you talking about using force??? Canadians are not going to go to war against Canadians.
  13. I think GerryhAtrick is correct that it is wrong to BUMP up spam. However, if spam is detected very early, (i.e., so that it does NOT bump its ranking in the forum) I think it is wise to indicate that it has been reported. The reason: to prevent Greg from being inundated with many reports for the same spam-message. Greg, please tell us what you think. Also, I would add to Gerry's advice: You should never click on a link in a spam message. The spammer receives notification in his server logs of which forum is good bait.
  14. Where to start!?! I do not think I was clear enough when I asked for an internet link and alluded to the fact that the internet was not around in the 1970s. You describe some economic commotion from the Second World War and events from over 30 years ago that lasted a month or two in duration. Greenspan can say what he wants. Do you really believe that The Fed has always acted independently of political influence???
  15. It sounds like they have been charging you guys too much at the start. What is "allow homeowners insurance to be publicly owned" supposed to mean? Do you want the taxpayer to subsidize your insurance AND you want to pay more for it?? Sounds like a double bonus!
  16. I am a curious kind of breed -- one that would not have let the first billy-goat pass.
  17. Are you still serious??? Government spending is a drop in the bucket.
  18. Are you serious??? Price and wage controls are good??? Do you have a link for that? Thankfully the internet was not around in the 1970s and early 1980s otherwise I would have to say "Do you have a recent link for that?" instead!
  19. I think it can be even easier: they should get a Muslim comedian to make fun of their own culture. Comedians of other religions and cultures do that a lot. Well, that will all change once Canadian Tire starts marketing their new line of Global Warming Protection Suits and tin foil hats.
  20. So what?? At the time, they may not have been. Friedman could have also advocated daily exercise and losing weight believing that the hoola-hoop was a great tool -- not knowing that gym memberships will become fashionable in the future. The real point is that Friedman advocated price stability as a goal for central banks -- just like losing weight. Would you knock him because the hoola-hoop is not as good as a treadmill?
  21. Unfortunately, the poll does not offer any preventive choices. To stop violence from happening on the street, I would suggest having more officers patrolling the streets.
  22. Indirectly, the management of the money supply can affect the real value of an asset. The real value of an asset is a reflection of what other people are willing to pay. If the management of the money supply makes trade more difficult, the real value of assets will be affected. To illustrate, if I was uncertain about the price of bread tomorrow, I might be reluctant to buy a comic book from somebody in Alberta through eBay for fear that I can not afford my daily bread. As a result, the auctioneer/seller of the comic book has one less interested buyer -- he can not command as high a price. Similarly, the real value of the comic book is altered if I am willing to pay a fortune for the comic book but I die of a heart-attack before placing my bid. If Albertans have a reputation for not delivering, the real value of the comic book in the hands of an Albertan is affected. All of these things affect real values. In extreme situations (i.e. unpredicatable monetary inflation or deflation -- something we rarely see any more), the entire economy can be stagnated.
  23. Do you see Canadians going to civil-war to defend one bureaucracy over an other???
  24. I would recommend waiting. Sometimes weekends get busy. Curious. An other member leewgrant identifies himself with exactly the same location. Jeez....have some dignity. Wait a minute: does it work for you?? Is that why you are still here???
  25. No, it does not. It does not. It does not. Do you mean before or after you label ALL OF THEM with false accusations??? Wait a minute..... How does "Islam" decide anything??? Because we have tin-foil hats that can protect us. No, I do not see it.
