  1. if there was anything positive about this,If there was anything positive about this, I think we may have found two online forum members a match for eachother!
  2. Yes: violence begets violence. All kidding aside, I think we are in agreement on the corporal punishment issue.
  3. Good enough reason for me. However, at the risk of carrying on the the vein of the 9-11 conspiracy thread, this... ... sounds interesting. All they have to do is set the permissible levels to where they are now. The big companies can sell the credits to the smaller companies. The great big companies will be more successful at installing green technology than the smaller companies. With enough time, the credit system will be an easy way for the great big capitalist companies to force the smaller ones out of business. Congratulations. Socialist policies leading to market concentration. There is always room for cronyism!
  4. Yeah, boring parents breed bored children.
  5. Yes. It is not. However, it might make sense if money was not falling from the sky and enough people muscled their way around to enforce their own preferences.
  6. -- by signing an online petition? I will fear the Twin Towers levitating into the sky before I fear the formation of a North American Union.
  7. What are you talking about??? Again, you are criticizing anarchy by describing crony-statism. No. It sounds like your poor people would first figure out that they would get more variety through a market of "collective interests" services. All of the agents involved would buy or sell their services. How else?? Nobody because nobody would call it coersion.
  8. Only if the elite owned the entire land taxable jurisdiction -- which they would not. Even if the elite could afford to own the whole country, only rich elite people would live there. So, what is the problem???
  9. Forgive me but what is your objection to my statement? You are agreeing with me.
  10. Private policing.
  11. Now, are you trying to be frugal with tax-payer's money? Why 3 months? Why are pro-dead-fetusers comfortable with 3 months and not 2 or 4 months? Please explain the logic -- if there is any. The answer is that there is no logic. There is only convenience and "This is what we want. End of discussion." reasoning. That is a ridiculous statement and it foolishly diverts the debate. Abortion does NO harm to society because society does not exist. Let me say this slowly SOCIETY DOES NOT EXIST. You may as well say abortion does NO harm to peace or joy or happiness while you are at it.
  12. I have to play the devil's advocate to both sides. There are a few short sighted comments going all over the place. Not really. Children are first and foremost selfish. There is also a good chance that the child identifies with "might equals right" as being the lesson to learn. That rhetorical question is foolish and displays a complete lack of knowledge of how dogs are effectively trained. One of my pet peeves is dog owners who poorly train (if at all) their dogs. Does your dog come back without hesitation every time you call? (... or maybe I am asking the wrong "person"... maybe it is the other way around.... ) I agree. --- a negotiated settlement. Interesting form of justice. Makes sense to me. However, what if Bobby smashes the neighbor's face with a slingshot?
  13. I beg your pardon?? You are twisting the definition of "government" to suit your account of history. Please provide more details of when Europe embraced anarchy. Wrong. Under anarchy, the few economic elite are kept in check from committing crime against the poor. You would rather endorse our status quo which keeps people as slaves.
  14. I don't see how they are a fake problem, care to elaborate on that plz?No. I do not care to elaborate because it does not exist. YOU brought it up, therefore, YOU should explain how a trade deficit is a problem. Citing "Trade Deficits" as a problem sounds great for winning votes from people who know nothing about trade. It is the same as Dr. Seuss saying "Krade Lefficits" are a problem. All of the people who know ZERO about trade economics will say "Rah! Rah! Rah!" and agree. I give up. God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference.
  15. Trade deficits are a fake problem. Local competition is a bogus excuse. I am going to use one of Aug1991's classic analogies to illustrate: If we could produce lightbulbs ourselves, YOU would say that importing cheap light from the Sun and the Moon is completely ridiculous.
  16. Not if the imports are cheaper.
  17. I propose that we act diplomatically. Have you ever asked an American about the war of 1812? The Americans believe they won the war when WE clearly did. Anyway, what is wrong with capitulation??? Why does it have to be an "us against them" attitude???
  18. Personally, I do not care if it makes Canada a better country. I do not think we have much choice. We must work and compromise with the Americans.
  19. It does not make them MORE likely. That was not the assertion. Everything is relative. I am saying that the howls of an anti-Western imam may as well fall on deaf ears because pop culture is more exciting.
  20. Guys, the thread is becoming a scroller-coaster. Greg wants us to cut down on excessive quoting. It is not necessary to repeat entire previous posts. Please check out these threads: Using the [ Quote ] Feature: Avoid using more too many quotes! Trim Your Posts and Quotes, Don't just hit "Reply"
  21. No, Geof, you are not done. I am going to nag. I think they are being very clear. The students do not understand why they are given this assignment. The bureaucracy appears disorganized and their teachers can not explain. Gone are the days when students just take things for granted and go to school for memorization. School is boring and students are picky consumers.
  22. Ever been to an area with a high population of Muslims?Probably more often than I realize. Not all of them wear labels, badges or name-tags. I am willing to bet that the young Muslims integrate pop culture into their lives more than you do. I am also willing to bet that the "howl" of the imams has the greatest effect on old non-Muslims than it does on the second and third generation "Canadians". Our pop stars need to raise their panty-less skirts in public to gain our attention. That is filth.
  23. They do so for sex, trophies, bragging rights and maybe to have children -- children who can take care of their old parents -- if their parents deserve it. Some people also fall in love. Some riposte. You forget that people are not perfect. Do you deny people the right to make their own mistakes? Ask a non-Libertarian why individuals have unprotected and promiscuous sex with people whose sexual background they do not know. People do not need a special Department of Itchy Reminders branch of the government.
  24. With that logic, we should encourage our farmers to start growing money on trees. that's business and how it works. With that selfish attitude, do not expect the consumers to enjoy playing in your political games. Farmers form a tiny fraction of the overall population. You can form any cartel you want. However, once you use the strong arm of the law (paid by everybody's taxes) to enforce it, you are a thug. It does not prove your point. I will quote from your article: Clearly, there is not a free market in Mexico. It looks exactly like the opposite. The government has its hands in the business and poor people are going hungry. Shame on the supply management advocates! Do not blame free markets for what is happening in Mexico.
  25. Detention centers would not likely be accepted politically. As such, I will leave their advocacy to others. However, I can understand them. If we had detention centers, where would they be? what would they be? a penitentiary? a concentration camp? I would hope that Canadian citizens were permitted to freely visit these captive refugee claimants. Otherwise, I would distrust the refugee bureaucracy. I agree with Aug1991 proposal: Canadians should initiate a joint immigration/refugee policy. We will likely give up a lot of control to the Americans but such is life when you live in a big family. CAVEAT ANARCHIUM: If you let me indulge in an annoying and most likely a futile attempt to provide a different perspective, I want us to simply let absolutely anybody into the country. All tax-funded immigration/refugee "help" should be cancelled. The cancelled funds could be diverted into improving the justice/penal/security/law/policing "services" of Canada. Instead of one refugee-immigration-bureaucrat reading papers and listening to stories, put one more police officer on the street. Unfortunately, my recommendation would certainly raise the ire of the David&Michaud gang but more importantly would not go over very well with our neighbors to the South with whom we have very little bargaining power.
