I think Fort summed it up as of today. Here is the point. We are in a very difficult moral position. We want to differentiate ourselves from terrorists. To do that we need the moral difference and that comes in a legal system where we do not engage in the same behaviour as terrorists. We also know that we subscribe to international conventions as to the treatment of prisoners precisely for that reason-to remain humane and be seen as morally different or more evolved humanely then terrorists. I think all rational people agree we do not want to turn into terrorists ourselves in this war. I think the Abu Greib (I spelled that wrong) prison situation showed us what happens when a nation claiming to be defending democracy loses sight of its own fundamental legal principles and then forces its soldiers to engage in political acts. In democracy we do not want our soldiers engaged in politics. We keep our soldiers seperated from politics or so we used to. Today our soldiers are not fighting a conventional enemy they are fighting someone who dresses and talks like a civilian. More to the point we don't want our soldiers being conventional soldiers, we want them to be social workers, community workers, public relations people, police. Is it realistic to expect conventional soldiers to be all of those. Me personally I do not think so. I think this idea we can use soldiers to kill Taliban while at the same time being social workers for the rest of Afghanistan is not realistic and in the long run can not work if you are fighting terrorists precisely because those terrorists blend with the civilians and there is no way to tell the difference meaning in the long run, to try catch the terrorists you are going to alienate non terrorists. We can not be all things to all people. That is what Canadians like to think of themselves as-good guys who can save the world but we can not. That is misguided and nothing more then a new revised version of the old Christian missionary out to save the savages. So it brings us to the next point. It is unrealistic for anyone to think NATO will set up prison camps and fill them with Taliban. It is not going to happen. For purely political reasons it will not happen. It is also absolutely unfair to blame Canada's soldier's for that or to suggest they must put a stop to it. No that is a political issue that our politicians must take direct responsibility for. I personally believe in international conventions and treaties and believe soldiers should not be placed in positions they were not trained or created to do. I believe the vast majority of soldiers believe in conventions and conducting themselves with an honour code and have no interest in killing or torturing civilians and would prefer not to have to interact witht hem if at all possible to avoid problems. I also appreciate in the heat of a battle, soldiers do things you and I would not understand to survive but I distinguish that from when we are talking about civilian situations where there is no heat of battle transpiring. I do not want to see our soldiers being used as interogators if possible. They were trained to interogate and fight other soldiers not civilians. Now we want them doing the same with civilians. That is a police role not a military role. That is why they have been given over to the Afghanis. If we believe the present Afghani police and government are no better then the Taliban, then spit it out, say so and leave if that is the point otherwise the status quo of handing them over is the only thing we can practically do for now and we have to rely on our media, ngo's and politicians to assure the Afghan government is doing the right thing, not our soldiers. Our soldiers are trying to stay alive. Leave them alone.

In their study they found the chance of a gay molesting a child as no more then 3.1% but with straights, 100 times greater. We also know in 1988, Kurt Freund of the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry, Toronto did sex research in which he analyzed two groups and found that gay men did not respond any differently to male child stimuli then straight men. According to the most well known pedophile statistics from the U.S. National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System it would appear 90,000 children are sexually abusedt each year of which 80 percent of the victims being being girls. Of the remaining 20 percent only a small fraction of these crimes was identified as being committed by “gays” . Let us also be clear. A human’s sexual feelings or attraction to an adult, whether that attraction is classified as straight, gay or bi, is a completely separate distinct psychological phenomena then sexual attraction to a child. They are not the same. Where the confusion arises is that a minority of pedophiles can also be attracted to adults but even if this is the case which is quite rare, these two different attractions operate independently they are not the same. Two separate processes are going on. It is also a fact that statistics show that the majority of child molestations is perpetrated by men who are not necessarily sexually attracted to children-what is happening is they turn to sexual interactions with children under some sort of stress induced phenonema that triggers off these feelings. This is often confused with the predator pedophile one of different types of pedophiles but which gets all the attention. Not all pedophiles prey. Some may never have the opportunity or access to act out on their desires and will not seek it out. Now there was at one point some people in the American Psychological Association who tried to raise the suggestion that not all relationships between adults and children were damaging or more accurately put that the sexual relationship didn't do the damage the reaction to it by peers and family did, but such reasoning was soon challenged and dismissed but that had nothing to do with gays or straights. I know its difficult for some to believe a homo-sexual pedophile is not a homo-sexual but that is no different then me sating a hetero-sexual pedophile is a hetero-sexual. Its a misuse of the word to describe the gender of the victim and the offender. Police prefer to define pedophiles in regards to whether they are predators and actively looking for victims or the passive pedophile who is not actively looking but none-the-less with the right stress or set of conditions might do it. Since it appears 80% of child sex victims appear female and to be molested by men which parallels what most police detectives would tell you is their take on it-we should not confuse that fact. More to the point no healthy gay or straight adult would condone or support such behaviour.

Parents are more protective of children in cross-sexual situations. We trust our sons with other men and our daughters with other women. The problem is that pedophile males are usually only entrusted with male children. Hence the skewing of numbers. If you are going to say this group proves gays do this, then you will also have to say the same about straights since we know how many straight men want to f..ck girls and to pay for them. Now talk to me about pedophiles since I have worked with them and have been in their head. No they are not gay or straight. What they are, are people who want to have sex with someone much younger then them and preferably someone whose sexual features have not developed. Now then if you want to suggest all gays are child molesters you will have to do the same with straights. The problem faced by Canada and other NATO Forces in Afghanistan is no different then what the US is faced with in Iraq and ANY nation is faced with when they use a conventional army as a political occupation force....what to do with civilians you capture because you suspect they are terrorists. There are international treaties. There are conventions that talk about fair trials. There are conventions that forbid torture. The problem is the US rewrote the definition of torture so as to basically justify using torture as an interogation technique by stretching the concept of what constitutes pain to the point of absurdity. As well the US has shown it does not feel it has a legal obligation to offer speedy or for that matter "fair" trials. Now when I say "fair" I mean trials that follow the rules of natural justice which includes; 1-the accused being fully informed what the charges are against him 2-the accused is given full dislcosure of any evidence to be used against him 3-the accused is given access to a lawyer 4-there is a timely trial 5-while the accused is incarcerated he is not subjected to inhumane or cruel punishment 6-the reasons for the decision are given to the accused 7-the accused has the right to either speak or remain silent at his trial 8-heresay evidence is considered inadmissable 9-there is a right to appeal if there has been an error of law. Now we were told by Mr. Bush that he would not follow any of the above in Iraq because it was not practical. In Afghanistan the Canadians like all other NATO forces hand over civilians to the Afghanis because this way politically if the prisoners are tortured or not guaranteed natural justice no one can blame Canada. So the million dollar question is-if you want to go into other countries and claim you are bringing democracy and being a role model for democracy, how do you do that, if you engage in the exact same tactics as your enemy when it comes to interogating and torturing your captives? Here is what I say on the topic. No I am not some fool who thinks that you can treat a terrorist bent on killing you with kit gloves. However, we have the technology to interogate using pharmaceutical products that do not require crude beatings or sodomy or sexual abuse. Now that said, if you are an elite commando unit or a military force in the heat of battle and you are in the heat of battle and believe you will be killed or someone is about to be killed-yes you do what you do to prevent the death-but in this world where we want to be exporting our democracy like Chistian missionaries only now we are extolling the virtues of Tim Horton's coffee not the BIble, we are stuck with the legal reality of having to deal with the arrest and interogation of civilians. Its an issue that won't go away. The reality is, democracy can only go so far. Are any of us really willing to fight terrorism if it means preventing it by torturing a terrorist? We have to deal with that question. Me personally I believe we should follow an honour code because I believe if we don't and we fail to morally distinguish ourselves from these terrorists - we are no better than they and have lost the very purpose of the battle we chose to engage in which was to prevent ourselves from becoming terrorists. I appreciate in the heat of war and battle shit happens-and it has always happened-and soldiers do what they do to survive and no its not easy trying to define right from wrong-however away from the heat of the battle-we have to be honourable. I am not sure right now if the stories we are hearing about torture of suspected terrorists in Afghanistan are accurate or not. I also like many people can tell you we should do the honourable thing-but then I am not there-I am far removed from immediate danger-I would not presume to know what is the honourable thing in the heat of battle or in the midst of the conflict. I talk in ideal terms not practical ones and concede what I say may not be practical but I sure as hope its possible because turning into the terrorists we are fighting is not what I want and I am sure its not what the soldiers want. I do not think I am naive in saying most soldiers are honourable people and believe in an honour code.

Can we get the terms right please. Pedophila is the psychiatric disorder where adults are sexually attracted to prebubsecent children. Ephebophilia or hebephilia, is in fact the condition of being sexually attracted primarily or exclusively to adolescents.. Pedophilia is often used broadly in a non-medical sense to describe both ephebophilia and attraction to younger children called nepophilia or infantophilia which is the attradtion to babies or infants from 0 -3 but technically it is not either ephebophilia or or neophilia. Pederasty is sometimes used to describe homosexual relations between older men and boys as it dates ack to Greece where this was practiced but its not a clinical term used as are the above ones I mentioned. Gerontophilia is the attraction to the elderly and Lolita Syndrome is used to specifically describe the attrraction between older men and girls. Now let us deal directly with the fallacy that homosexuals molest children. Practicing homosexuals like practicing heterosexuals have zero interest in children as sexual objects. The fallacy that homosexuals want to have sex with children or recruit children for sex flows from pederasty that was practiced in Greece. In fact a true ephebophile or pedophile has no gender preference. It is all about access. They will molest any child of either gender if they have access. So what happens is, it is more likely a grown male ephebophile or pedophile will be placed alone with boys or young men so he molests them because of access not sexual preference. So the alleged statistics that 33% of pedophiles are gay is b.s. What in fact may be the case is that 33% of the sexual abuse cases studied by whoever is quoting them (and I doubt those stats very much) found ephibophiles or pedophiles with access to boys instead of girls. This has nothing to do with homosexuals. For those of us who have worked in the criminal system with sexual deviants, and as most psychiatrists can tell you, someone who can only find himself attracted to adolescents or children is not gay. If they were gay they would stick to having sex with consenting adults of their own age group no different then heterosexuals. In fact the age difference in relationships between consenting adults is absolutely no different with gays then it is straights. What the stats also clearly show is that children of gay parents do NOT become gay because there parents are. In fact the opposite is more likely because less then 6% of the population is gay and if anything gay parents have been shown to overly compensate with extra sensitivity and support for their heterosexual children precisely because they are gay. As well every life form studied is known to have homo-sexuality suggesting it is a natural biological imperative and simply a built in population control mechacnism which of course sure as hell shoots a whole in the theory its not natural-in fact it is as natural and it simply is a way to randomly keep population growth controlled. Now get over it. No one is asking anyone to have sex with Elton John.

I'll criticize and blaspheme any authority in the Catholic church that I want. It's my right. I left the church because of pervert priests that directly impacted on me. If the US was truly interested in winning the hearts and souls of Iraqis, it would not have blown the country's infrastructure away. More to the point in the rebuilding process it would involve Iraqis. It wouldn't have turned the country into a series of private contracts for Haliburton and security companies. The biggest army in Iraq now is private. It is not accountable to anyone. It does what it wants when it wants with brute force. That is not democracy. That is not how you win the hearts and minds of people. This is a far cry from the US Peace Corps. My God to think at one point the US had a Peace Corps. Now it relies on private contracted killers to torture people. What happened? Rumsfeld and Chaney have no respect for the US constitution. Occupying Iraq and allowing it to be a pretense to ward Haliburton and private armies contracts is wrong. I think America will clean up its act in Iraq. That is the thing. It will expose its warts and do something about them. I have faith in the American system to protect its constitution, and clean up what is going on. I don't care what anyone says, Americans want to be liked. Trust me you do not want to rely on a gun for your safety. If you were my daughter I would want you to learn martial arts. I answer you differently then I would a man, because whenb it comes to the safety of women its a different issue and I appreciate its different and why you want protection. As for all the other gun control arguements, to me it gets down to one thing, I want whoever has a gun to be professiuonally trained and not be an amateur. I don't trust any human with a gun who isn't properly trained to control themselves and their emotions and be able to use a gun with no emotion. Once you see people die up close you have no desire to use a gun. That is why I hate them. I admire people trained in the martial arts who can avoid killing people but subdue them. To me that is far superior.

In world war two the Gestapo depended on its citizens to report each other. Then of course we had the Hitler Youth group teaching its children to report their parents. Figleaf will then tell you Samir Kuntar came into Israel proper with 6 others, and kidnapped an Israeli civilian and his 4 year old boy. He will tell you that civilian only had hiding spaces for his wife and daughter and had to sacrifice his son and himself knowing they would die. He will tell you Mr. Kunar took this man and his boy to a beach, slowly torturde them, sodomized them defecated and urinated on their chopped up bodies and that this was wrong. He will tell you this had nothing to do with self-determination and everything to do with an act of hatred and terror against Israelis for living in Israel proper. Figleaf won't forget to tell you how UNIFIL in fact ignored its mandate and the French army which was the largest army in UNIFIL was forced to watch as the Hezbollah were armed with the full approval of Le Deuxieme Bureau and the French government which openly backed Hezbollah even after it killed French soldiers. He won't forget to tell you how Chinese army troops as part of UNIFIL and along with North Korea armed Hezbollah and built its terrorist camps while still part of UNIFIL.
