Remember we're talking American business here, but I'm sure the situation is similar to Canada.
-
Oh, come on. Wall Mart is the biggest employer in many US towns exactly because it is selling to low income people that live there. That's the whole Wal Mart method of operation, selling to low income people. Yes Wal Mart may have operations outside of the US, what how many jobs does that create within the US? And Wal Mart of course is a good example on how to get rich by not giving jobs to Americans, by outsourcing its suppliers to other countries. Very clever - bust the middle class so they can't afford not to shop at Wal Mart.
-
Well put. I was going to say something similar. The working person gives their time and effort, what's more valuable than that?
-
sometimes simple = simplistic. I think this may be one of those times.
-
So other countries depend on the US middle class for sales, but the US companies don't? Does that make sense. What proportion of US economic activity is exports? I thought the US had priced itself out of the export business.

But you also wrote this: So according to you, women get lesser charges and charges thrown out (I agree) by the court system, men are more likely to be the one that gets sentenced.

Balance of trade for US?

Palestinians & First Nations no Different From Anyone Else
Canuckistani replied to jbg's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
What do you think Netanyahu's agenda really is? This is a question, not a challenge. I have no idea what his agenda is, tho creating war with Iran and dragging the US into that seems to be part of it. And he seems too beholden to the settler parties to ever consider closing them. -
Wouldn't it be nice to have all the working poor be able to go on strike for a bit. The howling and gnashing of teeth of the middle and upper class would be deafening. Not only that their wallets would take a big hit, but all the jobs that wouldn't get done all of a sudden.

Palestinians & First Nations no Different From Anyone Else

OK, but what does Israel do now? Drive the Palestinians into the Jordan? According to Israel, the Palestinians driving them into the Mediterranean would amount to another holocaust. Wouldn't the same logic apply to the reverse? I doubt the Israelis want the Palestinians among them a la Kurds in Turkey. Look at the problems of the Kurds in Turkey, about to get worse with the situation in Syria and Iraq. Same with the current policy of creating Palestinian Bantustans on the West Bank - bound to create pockets on continuing festering resentment. Israel's best hope is a 2 state solution. Personally I would favor Israel doing so unilaterally if necessary. Close the settlements, retreat behind some version of the pre '67 border, no right of return and in this case I would support Israel being fairly aggressive about Jerusalem. It might not lead to peace immediately, but would certainly remove victim status and support from the Palestinians. -
That's right, the damage done by men is often more serious. Does that excuse the damage done by women, even if it is serious our deadly? Or that it's OK to initiate violence, but if the man responds he's the guy going to jail?
-
The case of the Vanderhoof woman was well reported. But why go right away to exculpating examples when the topic is female violence on males and lack of judicial response? At best you're deflecting. Can you not just discuss the situation and agree that where females use violence on males where there are no exculpating circumstances should be dealt with with the same severity as male on female violence? Or, is female violence always excusable in your view? After all they live in an oppressive patriarchy, so maybe it's understandable if they lose it from time to time. Or, because female on male violence is less, it's a numbers game and they should be punished less even if they do as much damage? (Actually females initiate more that 50% of domestic violence and are more likely to use a weapon).

We have the same thing in Canada, just less of it because we produce less TV. Real Housewives of Vancouver, Bachelor, I think. Let's do one on a remote Native reserve. It will be a laugh riot.
-
Your immediate response was to look for excuses. I know the details because they were widely published at the time. Women's violence against men, even if severe is not taken as seriously as the reverse, and then we get the usual suspects like yourself trotting out the he must have deserved it excuses.
-
Holy crap, the usual excuses are trotted out. The woman stabber her lover in the groin because he told her he would not be leaving his wife after all, and oh, yeah, he had a couple of other women on the side besides her. It was jealous rage. Same with the native woman who got probation. If a man kills a woman in a jealous rage, you'd be trotting out the patriarchal phallocentric heteronormic male need to control women crap. Would you still support 2 years of house arrest while being able to go to work for a man? Unbelievable.

I alluded to a it above. Also a problem is a pension system that allows hair dressers and radio announcers to retire at 50 because they have "dangerous" occupations. During election years it was not even attempted to collect taxes. If remember the figure right, only 25% of Greeks pay their taxes. Greece has very little of economic value except tourism - no manufacturing, no large scale agriculture, no resources. They just don't have the means to finance a very good lifestyle. They should never have been allowed to join the EU. I don't blame the Greeks for being mad now that the dream has burst. And I'm sure, as usual, the people on the bottom have to bear the most pain, which isn't right. They were lied to by their politicians, but they were also complicit in creating their problems.

http://forensicsncrime.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=crimecases&action=print&thread=1085The probation case I can't find a link, but a woman was given 3 years probation for stabbing her lover to death in a jealous rage. The fact she was first nations and drunk at the time were deemed mitigating factors.
-
It's more than a shame - I hope you're not suggesting we continue to sweep it under the carpet? Just because it is of lesser scope doesn't mean it should be ignored. Escpecially when sentencing women who do commit serious assaults or kill their men, and are given house arrest or parole.

Glad to see that's settled then.

So you concede the point, I take it. -
Are all quebecors and francophone racist?

Many people view themselves that way - are they all racist? Are the Israelis racist for demanding they be recognized as a Jewish state? -
This advice from a lingerie footballer? And what does she wear when she goes out to party?

No. Seems like we can't. Pity. Stupidity seems to run in his family: http://ca.news.yahoo.com/blogs/dailybrew/don-t-dress-whore-toronto-mayor-niece-krista-161600395.html

Well, as the article makes clear, he skipped out on being questioned which could lead to charges. What's strange is the Swedes refusing to question him in England, they've done that with other people.

I'm sure they would have loved to join Iraq for the bonus points they would have gotten from Bush, since it wasn't their asses that would have been on the line. Even Astan was in large part fought to give us cred with other nations. We took on too big a task to show we had the right stuff. Again, a lot of Canadians killed for nothing but glory.
