If it gets people to stop smoking, isn't that a positive thing?

TEACHERS are entitled to EI benefits?
gc1765 replied to mikedavid00's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yeah, there's no poverty in Africa... -
Hmmm, maybe a little less pot usage would help Canada deal with the productivity gap. Unless those four tiger economies listed above us are more productive than Canada. That article is a little misleading. It only shows the percentage of people who have tried smoking pot, rather than overall usage. There is no reason to believe that trying pot once or twice, most likely on the weekend, is going to have any impact on productivity (of course, I do realize that you were probably kidding when you made that comment).

No, he is preventing her from doing something that she does want to do because of his beliefs. That's a ridiculous comparison. Sex is only legal if it is consenting. If that woman doesn't consent to having sex with the man for $100, then of course she doesn't have to. Of course not, because drinking milk is not against the law and does not harm anyone. I'm not sure about the legality of this particular case, but I'd argue that the doctor should be fired because he is causing "harm". Great, all I have to do is claim that paying taxes is against my religious beliefs I'm not sure if this is directed at me or not, but I wouldn't send the doctor to jail over this issue. I do, however, think he should be fired (or at least warned, and if it persists then he should be fired). If the doctor is not doing his job by providing the best possible care for his patients, then he should be fired for not doing his job. "Religious beliefs" should not be an excuse.
-
Exactly. And that's what this doctor is doing. Society has decided that morning after pills are legal, and therefore women have a right to use them. It is the doctor's job to provide patients with these pills. We can debate whether morning after pills should be legal based on moral grounds, but society has already determined that, and unless the law changes, that should be respected. Like I said earlier, I could claim that not working hard is against my moral beliefs, and that would give me an excuse to not work hard and not be fired. However, that would never work in real life...unless of course I can convince the majority to agree with me.

What must we do to protect our White culture?
gc1765 replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
You can defend your racism all you want. You can argue that racism is a good thing all you want. But that doesn't change the fact that you are a racist. -
So, what you're saying is those "ethnic immigrants" you always rant about are actually MORE qualified than you?? No wonder you are so angry...

I'd say marijuana can definitely impair driving...but not as much as alcohol, because while it may slow your reaction time (like alcohol) it does not get rid of your inhibitions the way alcohol does (which is probably even more dangerous because it encourages drunk drivers to take more risks).

TEACHERS are entitled to EI benefits?
gc1765 replied to mikedavid00's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Full-time teachers are NOT entitled to EI benefits. Teachers can get EI if for the summer IF they are not returning in September. Otherwise, no, they do not get EI. -
If he's so lucky, why don't you move to the U.S.? No sarcasm. Really, move to the U.S.

I doubt that a few percentage points decrease in Calgary & Montreal is going to make up for the 20-50% increase in Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa & Halifax. I'd have to see more statistics, but based on those numbers I'd bet that in Canada, arrests have gone up considerably.

You are the one who implied that ethnic immigrants should not be filling important jobs in Canada. I was just curious if you are actually serious, or whether you wrote that in haste, because I am surprised that someone would actually suggest that non-whites shouldn't be allowed to fill important jobs. -

I dunno, I wonder how many lives are saved by screening for cancer (as just one example)? And how many people would get screened if it cost them money? -
'Al-Qaeda sees Canada as a legitimate target'

I agree with Riverwind. -
The funniest part is that article is from the Calgary Sun (as opposed to say, the Toronto Star )

I wonder what percentage of Canadians can do simple math: "Fewer than four in 10 Canadians can name the four political parties in the House of Commons. Immigrants do better." (link)

Where did you get this from?
-
Fine by me, I've already had a good laugh at your expense. And, apparently I'm not the only one...

Your entire argument was based on the fact that "Occam's razor" gets more hits in google than "Ockham's razor" & that it is used by more academics, and therefore is the only acceptable spelling. When I showed you that "color" also gets more hits in google than "colour" and that "color" is used by more academics than "colour", knowing that "colour" is a perfectly acceptable spelling, you change your argument to make it sound like the spelling "Ockham" hasn't been used in a long time. Why don't you take another look at that Link I provided you and take notice of the dates of those "academic" publications. You might want to re-think where you are going with this...
-
I just googled "color" and "colour", and "color" came up with way more hits. When I searched "colour" in wikipedia, it sent me to "color" as well. Are you now going to tell me that means it's wrong for me to spell color as "colour"? Why can't you just admit you made a mistake, is that really so hard to do?

Should global warming result in global cooling
gc1765 replied to noahbody's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Maybe if I try one more time, but this time putting the emphasis on a different part: "Greenhouse gases trap heat, and thus warm the earth because they prevent a significant proportion of infrared radiation from escaping into space. Concentration of greenhouse gases, especially CO2, have increased substantially since the beginning of the industrial revolution." It IS possible for human activity to have a significant impact on global warming without knowing exactly how much other effects may have. If you still can't see that, I can't help you... -

Tell that to George Bush.
