  1. Alberta, solid. Sask under brad wall unemployment at 4%. Trudeau well do we need to say anymore, then there's our best friend Quebec. Mulroney put in policies that slayer the deficit and the interest payments from Trudeau kept Mulroney in deficit. Mulroney understood to get a free trade agreement which is the cornerstone of our economy. Heck your leftist friends held parliament hostage so that we have this massive do nothing stimulus. I like the track record of the Tories on economics, and judging by the 2011 enough Canadians to give a majority gov't. Stupid is as stupid does.
  2. That's something that should be fixed now shouldn't it?
  3. Here's a better idea, bikes can go on the damn sidewalk. The streets have massive vehicles going at 20-50 clicks. A bike goes what 20 clicks when on a good clip. It's a no-brainer. Cars and big trucks can't stop on dimes, bikes can. It's bad enough driving big trucks when little cars dart around you and don't give you space, I can't imagine dealing with a bicyclist. Bike riding on streets is as dangerous as taking a walk down back roads during harvest. What is it with people who feel entitled to use the road with a bike because they legally can?
  4. When the sun belt teams win, people go watch, especially in the playoffs. The same thing happens with the NBA. The attendance is almost identical. It takes time to grow a market, and the market is growing. Remember the bog is made up of obscenely rich people, and they know how to make money even though it means slogging it through the beginning. You guys like to use gate revenue as the be all and end all, it's important, but there's more to revenues than that. My link My link NBC/versus is dropping approx 200 million per year while bell globe media is dropping 200 million over 6 years. Sounds chincy to me! And we will never know the CBC deal, but given that 200 million per year would be about 10 percent of their entire budget, I doubt it. That would be correct. If the team doesn't win, the fans don't show. More prestigious than being stuck in Canada with broadcasters not shelling out the cash and owners not being able to shell out the big salaries/marketing. Do you want cfl part 2? The owners hired Bettman with the specific goal of expanding the USA market to make the sport better. And then there was the nineties when the economy in Canada was sour and half the teams were threatening to move, the Canadian teams didn't sell out all their games, could it be a bad economy hurts attendance? Oh and what about the NBA, how many teams are being propped up there with a lot of their venues with thousands of empty seats?
  5. And Canadians like prestigious sports leagues. Compare NCAA basketball ratings in Canada to cis basketball ratings in Canada. No prestige, no viewers.
  6. If patty Kane can do it, ovechkin can My link Patty has his cup and did sweet nothing on defense. That's why you need role players on the team.
  7. Nope, Harper ran on punting the monopoly all through his tenure, in all of his election campaigns and rural western canada elected Tory mps with over 50% wins in many cases. Try again. He continued the cut taxes and not blow money on massive programs schtick. Harper didn't screw anything up, that's a lecture in itself. They might be spending money on stimulus, but they aren't spending it on some gong show ideas like Trudeau did.
  8. Of course they care about football, a good portion of the posters here are big football fans. Have you ever been to Saskatchewan, judging by our Hamilton area posters, Hamilton? Here another one, why does ctv show NFL games every week while the cfl has to be propped up by tsn? Seems enough Canadians care about football to have the flagship of the bell media empire cover every week of the NFL regular season.
  9. The people in northern Alberta are going to be affected by a sore ass because the wallet they are sitting on is too stuffed with cash, that's how.
  10. Saddam Hussein being a murdering lunatic was a lie? The Iranian regime being bees nest disturbers is a lie?
  11. Harper just ended the cwb monopoly at the risk of stirring up a hornets nest out west at his base of power. Do you know how many seats he will lose in the grain growing regions? Zero. Heck, he is negotiating an Asian pacific partnership deal. And turned off the stimulus tap and is lecturing world leaders about finance. Sounds like leading to me.
  12. Crosby without a shadow of a doubt is better than ovechkin. However, ovechkin is a game breaker and an elite player. He is one dimensional yet he is elite. He is like dany healthy and Patrick Kane and has one job and one job only and that's score. There is a rest of the team to play defense. Boudreau should have realized what kind of a player ov was and workers with it.
  13. My link My link St. Louis is doing good, but new jersey haf good attendance when they were a perennial contender. Americans like a winner, that's how they roll. If you compare the two, you will see that the NHL sizes up nicely to the NBA in markets where they compete. If here was no USA in the NHL we'd have a joke sports league just like the cfl. What do you prefer a joke league or something more prestigious? I'll go with prestige.
  14. My link My link My link My link My link Seems like the Americans are slowly buying in. I'll give you gate revenue makes up a chunk of total revenues, however there are only two teams in the nhl that can make payroll solely on gate revenues, that means other methods have to be used such as corporate sponsorship, merchandise, and our best friend television. One thing, if hockey is so popular in canada, why are the tv stations so chincy about paying the nhl for TV rights, could it be that there aren't enough canadians in canada to watch hockey and give it big dollars to secure tv contracts. That is why we head down south, because that's where the growth is.
  15. St. Louis, San Jose, Los Angeles, new jersey, Minnesota, Philly, Pittsburgh, Washington, Americans like a winner. If the teams do well, they pack the stands, do you watch the NBA or MLB and notice how empty their stadiums are? In short, no Americans, no money and no growth.
  16. You can have the nobody is bigger than the team fantasy laugh in or we can get with reality. Ovechkin is the face of the capitals franchise, their best player, and the guy who puts fans in the stands. He is the most important asset in the capitals franchise, hands down. is Ovechkin cocky, yes; however, any coach should realize that and work around that. You cannot replace a player like that, if he stops playing for the coach, then there is trouble. Coaches are a dime a dozen in the NHL and Boudreau found that out the hard way. Boudreau tried to change Ovechkins game when Ovechkin didn't want to, when you have a player like that you have to adjust around that player. Ovechkin has a desire to win, unfortunately Boudreau decided to become a headcase and lost the team. The GM should have gotten more defensively responsible players and the coach should have let the big guns do what they do best.
  17. I wouldn't necessarily advocate turning Tehran into glass per se, but knowing you that was probably a joke. However, you are correct as something should be done to prevent some nutbars from getting their hands on nuclear weapons. This is one of those instances where a world war 2 comparison is valid as nobody east or west wants a madman with potent military capabilities running around. As for those saying that Iran didn't invade anybody, that's an example of the economic sanctions against Iran since the 70's putting a wrench into Iran developing a respectable armed forces. WIth the nukes, Iran is looking to take a short cut, and what's worse is that the govt of Iran is quite possibly nuts. As for those people crying foul about WMD's in Iraq, what's wrong with punting a lunatic like Saddam Hussein. The only part I disagreed with in Iraq was the whole nation building fiasco, which ended up costing more lives than the actual war itself. Any chance NATO gets to take out a nutbar dictator, take it. Sitting by and burying your head in the sand is a bad idea.
  18. News flash, FDR trying to prop up prices made the depression worse. He'd have been better off doing nothing like in 1920 when unemployment was also double digits.
  19. Its also harder when we have a society full of spoiled children with a big govt selling them snake oil and telling them what they want to hear.
  20. Seems to be working for india, china, and brazil. Millions being lifted out of poverty into the middle class. Worked for us back in the day as well.
  21. How is it wrong? What rational person takes on more debt when he has an income shortfall? If you lost your job would you rack up your credit card? No, you cut spending and look for ways to improve your financial situation.
  22. Do you try and be ignorant? Most farmers would rather drink bleach than vote for those two clowns. And don't even attempt to try and give us a lecture on how you think the grain industry works.
  23. No risk no reward, the Asians are growing and we aren't. Fat lot of good onerous regulations did here.
  24. The fundamentals turn positive when prices are lower, unfortunately people like you don't want that to happen. Lower prices for products benefit the consumer by making products more affordable to them. Low interest rates are a time to be paying off debt, not racking it up. The roads and bridges should be rebuilt by slashing spending on feel good save the poor people programs. Do you think digging ditches and filling them up is stimulating the economy? What good is building a road, if no goods are going to be traveling on it,
