  1. Just for interest sakes, is there any links showing that the economy of Ontario is slowing down to an eventual standstill and that Alberta's is taking off. I'm just interested in seeing some facts and figures.
  2. If my power bill goes up it won't be a good policy.
  3. I think I have you both hooped as far as wildernss goes. Seriously if Ontario was such a great powerhouse, why oh why do people decide to go out west for high paying work. I have not heard of a person that I know going out east except to catch a Leafs game. I live smack in the middle of AB and T.O. If Southern Ontario is that great why aren't they attracting labour from MB???
  4. Be real fellows. Those papparazi guys have not been charged, and wont be because one being in the public domain cannot assume privacy. No wait you are right...London Police, Toronto Police , NY Police all will be charged for taking pics of people on the street. And you equate rape with pic taking ? You really do???? The act of rape is a criminal offence. Taking a pic is not. What is so hard to understand fellows? Let me reiterate once again, it is sleazy, and I do not advocate it. It depends on the manner the pic was taken. I'm sure if someone was right up in your face snapping pics, you could have a pretty good case for charging harrassment which is a criminal offense. Especially if you caught a perv snapping pics up a skirt which calls for sexual harrassment, another criminal offense, the analogy makes sense.
  5. People Magazine, LOOK , US WEEKLY, all feature photos of unsuspecting celebrities and normal people. The newspapers are full of people who NEVER consented...the news feature on fat people last night showed people who had no idea they were being filmed. Public domain. You are making it up to say people are more frightened. I grant you it is sleazy. Those paparazzi camera guys could get charged for harassment, IMO that causes harm. If the victims weren't suspecting it it's like getting raped when your passed out. If your passed out you don't know whats going on, so you don't know if your getting harmed or not, much like the unsuspecting upskirt victims who could lay sexual harrassment charges.
  6. Hopefully FTA can chime in on this one too. A couple of years ago a man was arrested at the CNE with a "shoe camera" taking "upskirt" shots. He did not coerce nor jostle any woman to get the shot. He simply manipulated his camera to see where the sun dont shine. The women were oblivious. Thus they had not lost anything, nothing was stolen from them nor were they harmed in anyway. Couple that with public domain and they could be photographed in public anyway, and assuming they fell down they too could be photographed with their undies showing, I was wondering how was that a crime ? Stay with me here. The women had no idea , thus they were not harmed physically nor mentally. It was not until it became public did anyone step forward and say they were violated . All of them had no idea . But the guy was charged , cannot remember with what, and IIRC he was convicted. But essentially there was no "victim" , but there was a crime. What am I missing? Seeing how the papparazi can hide in bushes to take shots of celebs, how is this different? How was Brittany pantiless shots any different other than the angle? That's like raping someone when their passed out. They were oblivious, had no idea thus not harming them in that logic.
  7. Try holding all that at once. If those Norweigan's are so peeved, just call in Franklin and Billy Graham, they'd go for sure. Putting those two groups together will ensure nobody gets the square and the riot squad will collect some overtime pay.
  8. How long is Fort McMurray going to be viable though. Is it self sufficient? What about when the booms over? I've seen my share of wasted paved roads gone to crap. Fort Mac is pretty out of the way too. I'd be wanting to invest in some alternate industries there, maybe moving some offices there. So far from what i've heard it's skidsville. Dare I say a private company if it wanted to twin the road themselves and charge a toll to offset the costs. Mind you that would be a pretty good job doing that. I'm guessing the starting wage there would be about 20-30 bucks an hour.
  9. I wonder what people would say if Billy and Franklin Graham had an evangelical service there. After all people are allowed to pray and gather...
  10. What good has the CRTC done? Australia I think has a very big desert in the middle of it, like we have our tundra.
  11. Your from Toronto right? End of sentence. 10% of Canada's population and one-third of Ontario's. Pretty much the same size as Alberta and larger than the whole block of the Atlantic Provinces combined. Toronto counts as a substantially large electoral block that has a relatively predictable voting pattern based on a half-dozen key political issues. That's all I'm saying here - nothing more, nothing less. On the basis of Toronto's federal voting record going back for 40+ years, any mention of anti-immigrant or anti-gay is electoral suicide - in Toronto. This is 10% of the seats in Parliament. That is a simple fact, like or not. You've obviously been out of the 905 belt for a long time - with the exception of a few isolated 'white' enclaves, the 905 belt is as immigrant-driven as Toronto is. And yes, as I have already noted, Toronto and Ontario both have long histories of support of the Progressive Conservative party (the old Big Blue Machine, for example). Fiscal conservatism sells in Ontario and can sell in Toronto too. But social conservatism is toxic in Toronto and a hard sell in Ontario generally. That's an electoral fact. The Reform Party destroyed the old PC party and took the party off to the right on the social conservative side and that is where Ontario has drawn a line. Harper, if you will recall, only succeeded in a minority and only by promising to step back on every social conservative policy issue (which had doomed a succession of previous conservative campaigns). Being too far to the left doesn't fly in Western Canada either. Western Canada accounts for a large portion of seats in parliament too. Guess what, social conservatism and fiscal conservatism is pretty popular out here. Maybe in order to get a unified government, they might have to accept that. Hypocricy in it's finest, the left being so adamant about accepting everything, but won't accept social conservatives.
  12. And not only in the country. Another reason why Canadians don't use cellphones as much as others. That's a good point, I mean out in the country it's understandable, there needs to be X amount of people to pop up a tower, Man. is generally good except in my area where it's sketchy, but there isn't enough demand to justify popping up another tower. As far as cities go, there should be no excuse why cellphones shouldn't be working all the time, maybe they should make them work better instead of being able to take pictures and play music.
  13. Holy red herring batman! No one needs to get cash from a ATM machine run by a bank other than the one they deal with. There are many other options available that cost nothing. I have not paid any ATM charges in years and I do use cash regularily. Are you always within a few kilometers of a branch of your bank? Do you have all your bank's ATMs in the country mapped out on your GPS? And what about the hundred other fees banks charge? Can you choose to not have a bank account? Well I can say that Canadians aren't too upset with banks otherwise they wouldn't support them. It's not like we have a massive use of credit unions or worse yet sticking your money in a sock. Not that i'm advocating sticking money in a sock, if people are that upset why continue supporting them?
  14. Feminism. I always took you for more of a Liberal minded person, anyway that's a ballsy post. Good luck defending yourself...
  15. We know we know, Alberta is the finest. You keep telling us all the time. And when the boom goes boom? We will surely feed your welfare machine ok...?....it is only fair. sheesh.... Good point. I think Alberta and Canada as a whole should be investing the returns from the oil sector into other up and coming industries. Having an economy just propped up on oil in my opinion is dangerous, we as a country should not be having all our eggs in one basket. There should be no excuse for Canada to be a welfare machine.
  16. So what, exactly, are the changes that need to be made? What are the items you feel are so damn important? Why is it that if Harper's "view of Canada" differs from yours, it must automatically be wrong? Saying that Harper is trying to destroy Canada is about as general as saying that Johnny Crouton hated western Canadians so he brought in the gun registry, and he hated all Canadians so he let Jane Stewart squander $1 billion dollars, and he hated the military so he cancelled their helicopters, and he hated Canada so he lied about getting rid of the GST. Do you see how ridiculous your assertions are? Ridiculous like Stephane Dion wanting to turn our country into one like Venezuela if he gets a majority. Good Point though.
  17. Or this scenario, 11 serial killers were caught, judging by their psych patterns they would do it again. They were all executed. 1 turned out to be just an accomplice and didn't kill anyone. Was it worth it to execute the accomplice when at the time there was sufficient evidence to get the guilty verdict?
  18. Yah I think cell phone service is ridiculous too. Out in the country it doesn't work half of the time. Long distance on those friggin things is a killer too. I think they are expensive not because of landlines but because of the companies taking advantage of irresponsible phone use. The people who have cell phones are the people who can afford to pay the bills. As long as people are blindly paying the bills, why shouldn't the companies charge more. Some people don't quit talking on the damn things. I think demand is well enough for the phone companies to be charging those rates. Good grief when I see commercials of sending a text message to some number and receiving a joke in return and it costing a dollar, I'm thinking wow someone is actually partaking in that exercise in idiocy. I think the first phone company that charges rates similar to landlines is going to walk away with a nice chunk of market share.
  19. My point is if even the homeless don't want to go to jail, then jail must be worse than being homeless. Think of it... cramped quarters, violent atmosphere, anal rape, bad medicine, stiffling rules, and worst of all, being at the mercy of a bureaucracy that no-one gives a shit about. Think of this, no home, no warm bed, no food, no tv, no anything, and they are at the mercy of society. I should think one would choose jail over starving to death.
  20. In my opinion it sucks, that is why I follow the law, I don't want to go. But it is better than being homeless.
  21. Being homeless in my opinion is hell, no bed, no warmth, no guarantee of food. At least in jail you get these. I'm not surprised more bums don't commit crimes, they'd go to jail, they'd get warm food, a bed, a warm home which in my view is better than living on the street. Do you this maybe, just maybe, this indicates that prison may not be that great an experience after all? ???????
  22. Try telling that to Renegade.
  23. To add on to your point it was those damn Anglophones that let them stay even though they won the war fair and square and granted them the rights to their language and religion and let them keep their homes. Those dirty redcoats...
  24. Show me where he was convicted in a Canadian court? So under CDN law he is not a murderer. We cant boot him out of a plane because he is now a citizen of this country. Since it seems his was a political murder, he poses little threat to any of us. ( I may live to eat those words though) If you think I want him here, you are wrong. I don't . But I also have some notions that his conviction was if not massaged , it was politically motivated. Their courts are not our courts. Who knows if the burden of proof is the same as ours. Be that as it may, we have signed a treaty that spells this out for any country to read. And we have certainly been ignored when requesting help for a parent who had a child taken by the other spouse illegally. There are cases where the CDN living parent can prove where the child is and still no wheels turn. Under Bangledesh law he is a murderer, let them deal with him. The point is he is a murderer. We have a responsibility as a world leader and an example of justice to make sure justice is served. it's just too bad that facing justice for murder in bangledesh is death. What about if a Canadian killed someone here and fled to a country that wouldn't extradite him? justice isn't served.
  25. Right to freedom of thought and expression. I have a right to be disgusted and speak out about it. The majority has the right to do what it sees fit that's a perk of being in charge, also being in charge means that they should exercise responsibility. Fortunately we live in a society where the majority has a good head on it's shoulders. I can safely say the Majority of Canada would not condone slavery or extermination or dictating religion. Fear mongering is just childish. Does the minority have the right to undermine democracy? Sorry I like true democracy, not a dictatorship. As far as your nazi argument, the majority of the world said that was unacceptable and put a stop to it. They took away the nazi's right as a country/government to exist. That's another example of a majority imposing it's will over a minority. Should the rest of the world have said oh the nazi's are a facist minority, it's their country they have this right and that right to do what they want?
