Suddenly PM Harper Cares About Aids
blueblood replied to imatitlover's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Hey lets not stop there . Lets us expand your right to bitch. Backwoods rescues drunk driving suicide victims skydiving mountain climbing snowmobiling toboganning Wow most of those are constructive activities that make a person healthier. Are we supposed to live in a jar? Drunk driving yes, except the victims (not their fault). For a backwoods rescue I hope you have health insurance cuz your going to need it (ambulance services not covered under medicare). I see where your coming from and make a good point. I would take some of these case by case to be honest with you. For example with mountain climbing if you go when it's the middle of a snowstorm and get hurt then I think you should pay. I am an avid snowmobiler myself, living in the country makes it much easier to own one. I wear a helmet, warm clothes, properly check sled over before going out, carry tools, spare belt, carry a cell phone and things like that. The point I'm making is that I'm choosing to do this activity, I'm going to take precautions. Having reckless sex and getting an STD/AIDS would be like me going snowmobiling without all of that and if something happens to me then well I'd be asking for it. Most of the people participating in these activities take necessary precautions, I'd wager that most of the people who get AIDS don't. That is my problem. -
Why are the Conservatives Killing the Wheat Board?

The subsidies for bio-fuel are happening right now. There would be no bio-fuel at all without them. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/31/business...r=rssnytemc=rss That's american though. -
Then why are you happy spending billions to root them out and put them jail? It's probably a lot cheaper to let them watch TV in their basements all blasted. Cuz some will be scared out of doing it. Opening the floodgates will cause a problem.

Here's one burnouts, why should I have to take care of them. When you get burnt out like some of them they become a burden on society.

Algae can come in, that's less oil that will be consumed. There's room for more. The strong farm based biofuel lobby will fix a problem that could be caused by it. The law will state that 5% is needed for biofuels that's incentive in itself. You'd have to show me some proof that federal subsidies for biofuels need to occur. So far private investment is doing the job. Mind you if the gov't wants 5% biofuels, then they should foot some of the the bill. -
NDP proposes Federal Minimum Wage - $10.00
blueblood replied to ClearWest's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'd like to agree with you, the problem is inflation. If all those people have money, it won't be worth anything, they'll all be buying things. With a huge demand for things, the retailers will up the price to net more dollars. We all end up suffering then. With things costing more, 10 bucks an hour won't be worth anything anymore. Therein lies the problem. They'll still be poor. -

We are talking about minimum wages. When the minimum wage is in fact more than the employee is worth there is going to be problems. Riverwind sums it up nice. -

Everyone has to be concerned over energy efficiency. It won't get better with food oils. It will only work with a subsidy. How won't it be more efficient, the crops are getting grown anyway using 100% petrol. When the 5% gets passed, that is 5% less petrol used in growing crops that are getting grown anyway. It isn't much but it's some. 5% less is 5% less All it amounts to is using a little bit less petrol and emitting a little bit less. Emphasis on a little bit. On top of that the oversupply of grains disappears, yay! That doesn't even matter, all that matters is the prices are up and the market is being less flooded. A smart way of fixining the gross income. Now onto input costs... -

When what goes on in the bedroom affects me as a taxpayer, we have a right to bitch. If someone has unprotected sex or shares needles with an AIDS person and goes into our public health system and my tax dollars are funding their stupid or selfish choice I wave the red flag. This selfish attitude is why Canada is becoming a second rate country. -

Bio-fuels is subsidized. There's no getting around that statement. It cannot and does not happen without immense support from national governments. Oil based bio-fuel in Canada has a very low energy efficiency. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bio-fuel The debate on using food for energy is starting to grow. The Canadian Wheat Board would not survive in a privatized market. Co-ops are dying even now. I'm not concerned with the energy efficiency, over time it will get better. The main idea is to take barells of oil out of production and a market for farmers which gives better prices. Mission Accomplished. Heres the thing, if people want grains for food and not energy, pay the bill. The days of cheap over supplied food are coming to an end. Why are people automatically entitled to cheap food? Having farmers with money in their pockets is a good thing. Since the gov't won't grant farmers royalties for producing food like recording artists get for producing music, I'll take this alternative. I do have to pay the bills after all. -

Business owners who do not pay employees what they are worth will not stay in business very long. Exactly my point, and the very vast majority fail to see this truth, that is why min wage laws protect both workers and businesses Business owners who pay their employees more than they are worth will not stay in business for too long either. -

Biofuels isn't really subsidized. Forests was already proven not to be a good fuel source, I'd give you the link but I read it in a newspaper. I was saying that the CWB become a cooperative not a state trading enterprise. Remember a part of the whole biofuel thing is eco-friendly, clear cutting forests would not be a good thing under the gov't. Our energy demand could support other feedstocks anyway, shipping more oil for export. -
A warrant lets the cops into the place whenever they want, that's why they have them made out in the first place. When a warrant is made there is a reason the cops need to go in. Due Process was followed in the grow op case aforementioned. Police are supposed to go into armed situations, their #1 priority is protecting life, human rights comes next. With the warrant the cops are to go into a suspected place and obtain evidence/arrest suspects. The police can detain anyone they like, they have to go to court and prove that the detainee is guilty and deserves X amount of jail time. You'll have to provide proof that they need to give time when executing a warrant. What's the point of having a police force if they can't do their job.
-
Because Pakistan might nuke us. I doubt it. They wouldn't have the guts to pull that off. Pakistan would be screwed if they did that.
-
A year ago in Mission the RCMP were excercising a warrant on a grow op. They forced the door and sure enough they found one. A judge threw it out because he said that because the police didn't wait long enough for him to answer the door, they violated the guys rights under the Charter. How keen do you think that would make you if you were a cop or a prosecutor? Now the police have to give the suspects adequate time to arm themselves before the can force an entry under a warrant. I wonder what that judge would have done if they had found someone lying dead in a pool of blood and the suspect standing over him with a knife in his hand. Would he have thrown that out to and if not, why not. It's this kind of f___d up logic that people are sick of when they see their neighbourhoods ruined by grows and meth labs and the courts doing nothing about it when these people are charged. They need a reality check. And people are scared of conservative judges in the benches, these left leaning ones are way more scary. I thought when you have a warrant, that means you can go into the house whenever you want.

CTV Iran just launched a rocket into space. This is in my view great. A poor area of the world has started to modernize. If this type of modernization keeps happening, that nutbar Ahmadinejad and the likes of him are going to be overthrown and finally peace can come over there.

Almost all of the NATO countries have timetables for when they go home, what district they work in, when they work, what they will do, how they will do it. Almost every country has a timetable for 2009. It is the NATO leadership that is now setting up rotations for 2009 to 2011. They are looking for NATO countries to commit to those rotations and have come knocking on Canada's door already. This is what the debate at NATO was about last week. Why not invade northern Pakistan and purge the North part of it of the Taliban.

Biofuel gets rid of unwanted supply surplus which is keeping prices down. When the law says X amount of fuel must be biofuel then there is an automatic demand. This demand is keeping prices up. It is no substitute for oil, only a "pressure remover" Being as oil is finite, this delays the process a bit. Oil has no where to go but up in price. There will be a day when it runs out. With this it takes out X amount of oil. Don't worry when biofuel gets in the "cycle" and more and more plants come online, it will be cheaper to produce. The demand for energy will always be high, I can't see it going down. As far as cooking oil goes, the demand for biofuels will keep the supply in check. This artificial demand being created is creating a revitalized rural economy, it would be smart to cash in. Cargill and Tyson are going to lose money on cattle when biofuels come in, their feed supply is in jeopardy. A smaller mixed outfit will have his feed already taken care of. Cargill and Tyson will have to go buying cattle again as it would be cheaper for a smaller outfit to finish the cattle on grain they grow themselves. Nexera oil is in very high demand and you grow it based on contract, which means a guaranteed market and price. And the way the veg oil market looks, they can't get it fast enough. the only concern i'd have is if they found out if it was a carcinogen, but then the biofuels can take care of that. OPEC has two giants that will be thirsty for oil in a little bit in India and China, they'll keep the price of oil high enough for biofuels to be economically feasible. CWB can become a cooperative and still be a major exporter, so many people support it, it could live on as a marketing firm. I don't think big marketing firms are illegal under the WTO. Plus with biofuel taking up so much crop when it kicks off, the CWB can make some serious cash marketing grain to countries willing to pay top dollar to get the limited stocks. -

What tax free status are you talking about? What subsidies? The CWB has its uses but it should compete with other buyers here. Last time I checked it's pretty hard to market my grain to Iran, that's where the CWB comes in. The CRTC is a subsidized agency in which second rate canadian entertainers benefit by forcing Canadians to listen to their drivel on the radio and watch it on TV. Instead of having the CRTC create a market for them, they should do that themselves. Remove their protection, subsidies and benefits and let them make it on their own. -

Blueblood, Isn't Nexera Natreon grown in Canada? Is it genetically altered? What are the thoughts about the CWB vote out your way? -CES It is grown in Canada, hell my neighbor grows it. No it is not genetically modified, it is open pollinated which means it's a pain in the ass to spray. Dow Agro Sciences website should answer your questions better than I canDowAgro Lots in favor of CWB, I don't mind it, but I'm thinking if so many people so strongly support it, then it should do fine without the monopoly. -
US Daylight Savings and the new Energy Bill.

I remember I used to get on the bus as a kid back when it was dark, so? Don't most city people drive to work early when it's dark out? I don't see what the big deal is. That's what lights are for. -

Move to Saskatchewan. -
Are you sure? This system would require you to pay 20% tax on the money you get for selling your product. No deductions for cost of fuel, fertilizer, machinary, etc. I am willing to bet that you and most other small business people would be forced into bankruptcy by such as system. Geoff said that he wanted to eliminate the GST, so that in itself helps me out. Plus he said after costs was when the tax was to be implemented, there wouldn't be a need to list deductions, just the figuring out of net income. If I'm understanding Geoff's system correctly.

Canola is being helped by the government assistance for bio-fuel. The Canadian Wheat Board will be illegal in a dual marketing situation. It will not be allowed under the WTO to sell barley if it loses its monopoly. The way things are going we won't need to export barley, I can see with biofuel's coming in that feed barley is going to have to compete for acres. That in turn will drive up cattle prices. Who benefits? Mr. mixed farmer who decides he wants to finish yearlings for slaughter. Canola is getting more helped in the veg oil market. Canola is THE healthiest veg oil there is. With places becoming trans fat free this helps us out too. Nexera Natreon Canola oil is the healthiest veg oil in creation. It's too bad it's not being sold in Canada, why? the Japanese are paying 19 bucks a litre for the stuff. My friend works at AU and gets me some, it is the best cooking oil ever. Oh and biodiesel will make it that much better. -
This is essientially one of the reasons I think my proposal is attractive. It reduces the administrative costs by a huge amount... putting people in my profession outta business. Here is how simple figuring out your TOTAL taxes would be... let's say family of 4, 20% tax rate and an exemption of $7,500 per person. taxes due = [ income - ($7500 * 4) ] * .20 Your taxes are now done. There is no room for playing around, avoiding, evading, whatever. Costs are reduced in that sense too. I like this, doing farm income tax is a bloody nightmare.
