  1. Possibly MB when conawapa goes online and with increased oil production in the western part, and continued high grain prices.
  2. I agree there, I don't know the law concerning that per se. I do know that MB has strict alcohol laws and I heard of some bars operating till 3 even 5 in the morning. I'd need to see the law to make a proper judgement, if it's against the law then by all means shut it down. As far as the member's actions in the story, they are unacceptable and they should be canned.
  3. I'd say it would be best if FTA answered this. I don't see why they would open up an illegal bar if the RCMP would investigate them in the first place and cause a big scene and lose credibility with the public. There must be a loophole in the law somewhere.
  4. The Maritimes? They are now rigging like Western Canada and are starting to enjoy the high life. With Oil at 140 bucks a barrell, the feds can spend a little more.
  5. Take a drive out to Western Canada west of the Red River. People who would be low income earners are doing well because of jobs in the oil patch which are related to high gas prices. The amount of jobs the oil industry provides is crucial to the Canadian economy. Without the oil industry in Canada we would be worse off than the U.S. right now. The oil industry also pays taxes which are funnelled to fund Eastern Canada's socialist paradise. Don't like high gas prices, start walking or riding a bike. Or we can be smart and by shares in publically traded Canadian oil companies and make some money to offset the gas prices.
  6. MTS isn't even that good. Go 12 miles from a tower and watch calls drop like the Subway man's weight. If your in town or in the dirty W then it works like a charm. The free MTS cell to MTS cell anywhere in the province is a nice touch and compensation.
  7. The threats against isreal, their abysmal human rights record, their meddling in affairs along with the Americans. I'll say the basis that has been why the U.S. and former Soviet Union meddle in affairs concerning who they think are nutjobs; it was the king nutjob of World War II, Hitler. They tried to appease him and it look where that went. The U.S. and former USSR weren't going to make that same mistake twice. Iran is no exception, potential nutjob who is a legitimate threat; squash. The other basis is insane people do insane things, refer to WWII.
  8. I'm pretty sure out in the prairies, MB and SK for example MTS and Sasktel have the antennas up and its the other companies piggybacking off of them. Sasktel I think is a crown corporation still. MTS is an ex crown corporation now publically traded. I don't know if the "Big 3" have stakes in them. The "Big 3" are only good in the city, out in the country they have piss poor service and if you want their contracts you have to get a major urban centre number. What a crock. I say let the Americans in, let them pop up towers. Let them put those dinosaurs into extinction. After all its the Canadians, especially rural/western Canadians with the dollars now. The Americans could make a lot of money up here with a booming economy to invest in.
  9. There are some bars that operate outside of what normal bar hours should be. For example there is a bar in Winnipeg called Desire that operates until 5 in the morning. I don't know how it pulls it off, but it does. Also in Winnipeg there were some bars in downtown Winnipeg that had served free booze during a promotion. Mind you I heard the service was horrible there. I don't know how that happened but it does. Rest assured that the Edmonton cop lounge is on the up and up or the RCMP would shut that place down in a heartbeat.
  10. Then its time to journey west to the oil patch and potash mines. Just wait till that pipeline gets built to the West coast. It's going to be good time charlie in Western Canada provided Dion does not get elected. Those American manufacturing jobs are going to be turned into energy production jobs with nuke plants going up, more oil rigs going up, ethanol plants, and new wind farms. The americans will come out of this fine and dandy, and less reliant on foreign energy. Let the chinese send up the price of energy, the Americans are smart enough and resilient enough to make it work in their favor. It's just a bump on the road. Manufacturing in 1st world countries is passe. It's now primary and tertiary industries. Let the countries with piss poor wages do the menial work.
  11. Nope pro democracy, Anglos form majority in Canada and we call the shots, Quebecers should be thankful for our benevolence. It would appear that the Frenchie separatitsts are anti democracy, rule of law, and anti constitutional, bill 101 anyone? Reasonable Accomodation? In Manitoba French and English people live in harmony, get along and don't sponge off each other, Quebecers can take lessons. Piss I wouldn't blame the Frenchies for being anti-violent, they have a history of getting their ass handed to them. Gilles Duceppe would ruin milk us dry much faster than Charest. If Canada is such a dive, hop on a plane and leave, it will benefit everyone.
  12. Why, we kicked the French's arse in the Seven Years war, we like it here and created a very prosperous society. When the Frenchies can lick the anglo's in battle, you can tell us what to do. For now, if you don't like how we anglo's do things, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.
  13. Well when the industry that makes the Alberta gov't piles of money is potentially under attack, the gov't must cover it's ass. Looks more like an investment. And that's IF Dion wins. With a policy like this, Harper has ammunition come election time.
  14. Well when one destroys the French in Battle, one can be supremacist. And during the American Revolution thousands of Loyalists came to Quebec and became dominant. If that Quebec Group wants French Citizenship because they hate Canada so much, they can hop on a plane and emmigrate. Nobody is forcing them to stay. Sad state of Canada? We're one of the richest countries in the world, we could be richer but one area of Canada likes to blow money on Culture and language.
  15. Umm, that's why the ethanol program was introduced in the first place. There was too much waste. Oh that's grain. How about keeping with the status quo and not devaluing our exports. The status quo being researching the ag waste and using waste grain. We are doing the smart thing and are going to make a lot of money at it. Oil hit 147 today, there is a lot of oil that needs replacing. Grain and stem are both needed. It's foolish to spend huge dollars to buy the imported ethanol, plus the huge dollars of ocean freight when we don't have to.
  16. All the more reason to open up Canada to foreign mobility providers. If these Canadian companies want to conduct shotty business due to protection from the CRTC then it is time for a change. I would welcome American companies, maybe we could get better reception up and better service up north.
  17. So what? Canada is a net exporter of food, about 20% of world's grain supply according to the CWB. That's more money in Canada's pocket. I have strong reason to believe that without the ethanol industry in the states, there would be gas rationing due to the huge volumes of fuel being made. Being as no one in the U.S. and Canada is in a famine situation, gas rationing when we could make fuel from leftover grain would be a huge problem had the industry not been introduced.
  18. Ontarians have elected officials that have created a very unfriendly business environment for manufacturing. When the buyers can't afford to buy the product, there is a problem and costs need to be cut. That is where outsourcing comes in. But according to the Canadian man. sector, people in third world countries aren't allowed to have manufacturing jobs. That is elitism at its finest. Yet with all those commodities Ontario is still in the fast track to the poor house. You forgot to mention Sask, NFLD, and Nova Scotia employment numbers. Those provinces are starting to come on line. It's time to quit working in the factory and its off to the patch. There's no pissing and moaning from Atlantic Canda anymore, they're starting to get rich. It's not just oil it's all commodities are rising. All commodities except labour. If that gov't was so incompetant in Sask, why was much of it elected then. If a government is good in Western Canada it tends to stay around for a long long time. Tories in Alberta for 35 years is an example. Western Canadian farmers have been told to go fly a kite by Ontario politicians. Now it's their turn to hold the string. Taxes on commodities and the production of commodities is one of the most ridiculous policies there is. The Canadian economy is reliant on commodities and not manufacturing. Having higher commodity prices when we have a large surplus of commodities is a good thing for our country.
  19. Harper's plan might be to do nothing. Cost Zero. Harper did break his promise on income trusts.
  20. Western Candians, myself especially benefit largely from increased Chinese and Indian spending power. With CAW employees getting paid huge salaries for menial work, it makes sense to outsource. Why isn't the Atlantic booming like Sask and Alberta, they have piles of oil too? Your oil point is why I think a Carbon Tax isn't necessary, why punish the main industry which is keeping our country afloat? If the NDP were booted out of Sask earlier, Sask would be in the same position as Alberta. Sask has succeeded in spite of socialism. That's why the NDP were booted out and won't be back for a long time. Calvert was a fool and is now paying the price.
  21. It's probably going to cost us bugger all, who is going to enforce Kyoto when we don't meet the requirements? The mystical world police??? How many Chinese and Indians have a better lifestyle with the North American companies operating there? How come our economy isn't in the toilet while the U.S. is having problems?
  22. The board does respond to the feds saying they're ending the monopoly, they go on interviews and write editorials. What gov't advertising campaign? I've not seen one ad in any farm publication from the feds calling for an end to the monopoly, I've seen interviews and editorials. The fight against bill C-17 is an ad campaign, note the billboards, tv ads, and newspaper and magazine ads. Harper won't do that because he has bigger fish to fry. As much as I believe agriculture is an important issue, in the grand scheme of things to an average urban dweller it's not and Harper is catering to that.
  23. It's not saying too much if one liners are doing the job. That cowboy hat is also the symbol of the richest place of the world. Those damn rednecks and their high standard of living. A benefit of being pot free. Don't like how we rednecks run things, we're not forcing you to stay. Call it the freedom of mobility, I believe it's in the charter. The debate on here is actually pretty good. What's the idea of a good debate, 8 leftists agreeing with each other? I'll even go as far as to say that this site is a fair representation of the voting demographics of Canada.
  24. That farmer who believes in the Board has a right to choose which government controls the board. He had 13 years of pro board times which were also times when grain prices were in the tank. He is paying taxes regardless which stance the gov't takes. Having the CWB steal farmers money means they get hit twice. The CWB is a marketer, not a propaganda machine. It doesn't cost the feds any money to run down the wheat board in newspaper and TV interviews as well. Having Board directors speak out on behalf of the board is not a gag order. If the directors were silenced, I would agree with you, but they are in the Western Producer every week beating the drum; which is fine, it doesn't cost me money and they have the right to speak. Buying a TV spot during say the Grey Cup hypothetically would be an insult--> that is what I would have a problem with.
  25. So a farmer who doesn't believe in the board and is forced to sell his grain through there, while the CWB is giving discounts to countries like Iran, has to take an even lesser cut because the CWB is going to run an ad campaign on TV, that is completely unethical. How much money does it cost the CWB to appear on a CBC interview? They can defend themselves and the farmer doesn't lose money, everyone wins. And they fear monger about the Conservatives stacking the court benches...
