  1. most of it will go towards the debt but i'll take a couple from blackhole known as other to sue the mindless rascals for illegally making money off the people
  2. what is this some inside information you are willing to share we have some displays at my office currently, the other day I asked the painter about the significance of the painting with 3 vertical lines in various colors - its called "the climb", it was a "circle of despair" for me, the whole run around to optimism - these artist are also nuts what are you saying, please explain
  3. I shall respectfully disagree with these - but i think perhaps another thread discussion. Agreed Please, the discussion is about Bush or die, I didn't intend it to be off track. Some of the folks I speak with are agreeing that Bush is going to win - he comes across as a fellow who will do what is best to protect the interest of his people In regards to the economy and the outsourcing of jobs: even in the 1930's the economist were talking about outsourcing, no one is a culprit here - you find ways to increase wealth Here is my observation though that people are upset, they see the jobs heading to China and India, but also we are forgetting that we have much of our immigration from these very countries, and those folks are showing up here and find out there are no jobs - there is a disconnect in the shift
  4. I was very surprise to learn that only 4.5% of 39,000 displays work of art showing at the National Gallery are created by a woman, how can this be?
  5. I take offence to align women in the same breath with being unemployed, on welfare, emotional, depressed, discouragement – this is a historical pattern of keeping women deprived of social, economic or political status - it does not help the women when we wish to promote them as individuals with less dependancy. 6. I caught the tail end of the debate. Position Status: So you see Kerry was “inconsistent with his inconsistencies” and doesn’t seem have an intimate relationship with his libido. Bush to Kerry: on Iraq So like now we both saw all the information and you voted to align with measures taken, and now you decided you really did not like how we both proceeded. Analysis: So now Kerry inordinately clings to Bush’s I-raq, you broke, pocketing the wrong ball i.e. guarding the oil ministry instead of the nuclear sites etc. Discrepancies unravel: So yes if Kerry still has this gaping love hunger for powers then Bush present a strong presence and a determination of who will stick around to finish a fight. General Conclusion: Sorry to the psychology folks but when normal eroticism emerges, the people will go toward Bush. Well thats what I saw
  7. The definition of employment is a tricky one and is interpreted in the Employment Standard Act, Human Rights Act While I can agree with the usage of transaction, your argument does not stand to support the statement “labor for money” as it excludes groups: for example employment of volunteers who receives no monies, but contributes to production and also satisfies the condition of binding contract suggesting a legal transaction. Since you would like me to believe it is about money, my argument rest on the notion that the transaction fails to capture amount monies that is arrived at through negotiations and is exactly where the disparity lies in equality between men and women, even when they are considered for the opportunity the pay is 30% less When a preparation of offer for labour is negotiated, it looks at: qualification, experience, performance standards, job duties, work history, remuneration, length of employment, terminations, non-solicitation etc. For this argument I equate equality with equal opportunity with equal pay - that men and women are considered equal in their potential to do a good job base on whatever criterias are the "mesh" and now the mesh is always subjective I have an example of a Church. This church asked to a group of folks to take a look at some resumes and make the recommendation as to who will be interviewed. There was a resume the church had difficulty accepting even it through it stood out as a potential fit. A female applicant openly admit to her sexuality in her cover letter -- apparently this was the subjective "fit" perhaps another time, but now it was not person for the job. Also I think you expected me to say this that nowadays there is human alienation from the work which creates value. So I will use Marx to mention that no one buys labour. Otherwise, look at who are thieves and mercenaries. What it means that an employee wage is by far less than the value added to production. An employer usually harnesses and buys “labor power” at its justum pretium I like the rhetorical arguments used to argue what is reverse discrimination and merit principles like "If I contract with a female accountant, am I discriminating against male accountants? If I employ a male cleaner, am I discriminating against female cleaners" I did not look up the stats for the male vs female cleaners but I bet that there are a lot more female cleaners and because of the low pay, there is not much difference in the wages, and good if it was unionised. What is clear in your response on a broader sense when the numbers are total is "overt discrimination in the hiring of white males". Like here is your able bodied white male who is looking for work. Look, here is also what your argument is saying. For generations disadvantage people plea with you to get them out of their pigeon holes and look at their abilities as individuals to do a job. Lets all now fixate on it. Why change things around why not stay behind the Potemkin Village of the right wing agenda. And I can define the agenda, is clearly not "special interest" groups, and are clearly not recipients of costly government programs. Also now I just hope we don't interject some liberal principles and values and tradition here as it would definitely be hypocritical, like say we all have the starting point, the individual is autonomous and unconnected to others, hence looking out for the self, so if all people have the same opportunity, same rights, the results ... fairness. Your assumptions, and examples do not resonate well with people who need interjection.
  8. The true is historically women started late, and there was some argument connected with biological purpose of the women who are prone to be silly if they did work. Women have progress, but still when there is a ratio of 52:48 percentages of women to men with discrepancies in wages and position occupied is a fair indication of the very relatively slow progress. The strange experience I have had is that men always say they are surrounded by females in the workplace, in fact women exist everywhere in the workplace...yeah, they serve the fill of mostly clerical jobs. Question who attend those board meetings? and now look at real statistics. The discrepancies are larger, huge the steeper the climb -- first the representation of women is not there, and then there are wage difference. And I attribute it to the historical nonsense of what the male says and even now how they still have the control of who progresses. In Canada, look how long it took us to have a certified woman doctor, in fact our first doctor was educated in the US, a woman lawyer, a judge, a woman politician, a woman dentist, a woman professor, how about a woman mayor, a woman prime minister, how many women CEO, and we didn't put the colors of the women on yet. The demographics has changed in the past 15 years in Ontario, yet is not representative of the same, it seems we are always playing the catch-up and so 10 years from now we are sorry again But Ontario and Alberta are very progressive and proactive in the quest to make right. I guess women will keep the arguments for “equal opportunity” means equal pay etc. and the voices are still too small at the top to make a big difference Sometimes I wonder about this argument that in order to accomplish such a feat as equality, equal pay and so on, we must allow people to be individual and treat everyone the same way. That it is the way for fairness to prevail. What equal means is everyone must have a base starting point and be able to compete equally, as in the case for jobs and promotion? But again if we look at the real statistics of going ahead with this information, more blatant discrepancies. The level playing field of “equal opportunity” is not the same for women. It is usually why we need proactive recommendation for employment equity legislation. Most of the argument I have seen is to keep women depressed and are about reverse schemas to portray male as victims and tends to reduced inequality to trivialization. And the reason I figured is to assure the males that they are not the receipts of unfair advantage, and to further emphasize the males are not the one who need proactive intervention.
  9. Yes, if all of us were to be practical, and do what we can do best accumulate wealth there ain't nothing such as a noble profession anymore I wonder what the youngsters are saying - is teaching a profession to be in now?
  10. Look you cannot assign the blame on teachers because kids can't read. We are talking about the same school system my kid is accessing - I can't blame the teacher because my kid is lanky, uncoordinated and can't run, you motivate the kids and encourage them, and give them techniques needed to run a good race and even when they lose they win Parents have a big part in this, and they need to take the owness of such a failure. First parents need to know their own child and recognise early symptoms of problems. But also there are so many other factors influencing why the child does poorly including these: - are they regular attendees in the classes - are they heavy into extra activities - do they have behavioural/emotional problem, [perhaps dealing with death of a love one, or divorce - do they have social issues - they do badly, and then they continue to do badly, would the parent intervene - kids doing poorly has close links to socio-economic being - it has links to the parents education also - and the study habits It is just mighty unfair for anyone to blame the poor student performance on a poor teacher’s performance - those factors are external to the teachers' liking One suggestion would be if early signs are detected that one-on-one home program as remedy - so like substitute a professional one-on-one for the don't give a damm parent or hmm the concern parent Here is what is intrinsic for the teacher though - for testing In regards to promotion of testing, I frankly disagree that it should be the sole determinant of a student ability, and performance In an experiment conducted within an elementary school, Grolnick Students were given informational work and told the following: 1) no test 2) there will be a test, but no consequence for pass or fail 3) there is a test, and will graded (controlled test) Results #3 control test produced short tem, rote memory, and less learning and knowledge integration than #1 & #2
  11. I am quite sure that the system is never going to please everyone and is going to get blame for outputting THE crime You want good results then invest in a better system, fewer students in the classroom per teacher, and better wages for the teacher, and to stop thinking the only way is some tradition we must practice such as testing - there are 4 students in my current class and we are wondering whether we should have a mid term and an end of term exam, and also wondered is our main objective competition of each other, or to test whether the prof. is as good as we think I also wanted to say to you that the background of what we become is never discarded, it moulds the competence and those sparks you find in the teachers themselves and is now transfer to the little ones and furthermore teachers are what is significant in the word “education”. In defence for the teacher on “kids are doing lousy – fire them” I must remind you that learning can take place independent of a teacher but get this when the teacher don’t show – here is a happy face - it means no school How about if they all pass it means they really know their stuff and they religiously follow the school system management. Example now, tell me how about the new conflicts of increased violence in the school system, are teachers to be held responsible. There are other issues connected to why students don't perform If the kids have problems then form some student body, local and national and voice the concerns
  12. Why would you do this? I have often wondered about the teachers testing from a student viewpoint, but I assure you it is not the same level playing field These are folks that have invested years and years and encouraged to enter into the teaching profession because they value education and wish to impart knowledge. I don’t believe just anyone could teach, it is a conscious decision and sacrifices they make and they followed though for a while to harness specialization to end up in the classroom. High school teaching is the most unforgettable and rewarding work experience I have ever had, I taught math to 16 year olds, a then 16 year old myself while in University with no “specialization in education learning theories” … oops but I did called it quits and also never returned to university until a bit later But based on experience what I can say is what was encouraged: clinical assessment, and peer assessment and some review process and conversations/discussions that allowed me to look critically at the work, adjust and master whatever I do in effort to have good results meaning students grasps concepts etc with the “quantity” required. Various self-regulating professions such as doctors, lawyers, engineers promote professional upgrading. In some professions they require a set number of hours of professional upgrading in order to renew memberships. Testing teachers or any other professionals for that matter are really betraying a profession. Look it it this way, what if 100% of the teachers pass this testing who would you recommend as the delete. How about cost association is with this testing, like how many millions? and now where is the benefit? the downside then? Try this, folks discouraged from entering the profession. What to do then? Focus here, looks like a trend, so declare shortages of teachers and encourage skilled immigration? So my response sirs first take responsibility for your own learning, you accomplish much more and you wind up where you want to be. If you know there are several ways to do quadratics, ask your teachers for the alternatives, OR take charge and find it yourself Next I think parents’ participation in the education and learning process of the child is as important as that of the teacher and parents are held accountable and responsible to the outcome of the success or failure of the child as is the system. Just don't shift problems around, solve it. As a no-good parent I do take some pride in participating in my child’s education, and even relearning the periodic table is fun … and it does not always have to be ROTE Other - about striking, everyone should have some bargaining when if comes to negiotiating in the workplace - who has the power is what overwhelms to striking action so to turn around and claim teachers as "essential service" - no
  13. well i just don't agree with your use of bankcruptcy as it relates to people striving for high ideals, firstly in prepackaged bankcruptcy the company re-emerges almost instantly how much did it impact the economy Secondly bankcruptcies are not all about distress, in 1992 Olympia & York's cash flow was encouraged to restructuring and reorganization even though they sought court action to avoid formal bankruptcy. not all excutives are bad, they consider their options, and decide is a company worth more dead or alive, then they kill it
  14. i did'nt say the French are depressed people or fit the criterion of being descrimated against "the others" need the fight for their jobs to establish economic status, you give them language status how is it going to help them economically my rational is simple - if if don't make common sense and understandable as rules it is not a go the French language exist now, it has a culture, there is some relation for kis to think smarter, its written in our law as a rule, a system works, all that is needed is to practice and follow the rules
  15. yes it is true women are paid less than their male counterparts for the same job, the difference is blatant in managment level jobs and greater than 20% difference the other thing that bugs me is the industry where the women are found. Here are the Best Employers for Women 2002, these are companies that women can advance through the ranks to mangement. Also women make up to 87-50% of management. These are employers that practice gender equality in the marketplace. Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital Bethany Care Society Trillium Health Centre IMS Health Canada Ltd Banff Centre Georgian College are women prone to be caregivers forever
  16. why so? in good strategic planning bankruptcy is a consideration, and a good executive must know when to bail
  17. That’s very simple, see the big picture now, so first look around you in terms of unemployment, except for the two people you know who are making it. Who do you think are finding it difficult to get work, to keep their job, and then are chronically (6 months or more) unemployed, take up menial jobs to survive, drives a taxi with a PhD. Would it surprise you if the rate is maybe greater than 70% first generation immigrants, talk about practice of social intolerance - least you know the demographics of where they orginate. Deprived means historically some groups are not doing well are systemically discriminated against, and a major are the institutionalise barriers, that’s why there are some incorporation of laws to resist practice of nepotism based of ethnicity, color, race etc At least people can dream a dream and watch a dream evolve in the US who are more overt in their behaviours but at least they practice capitalism, like if they think a person, any person regardless of their background will increase their profits margins hey who you think gets a piece of the action Well my point initially was don't hold your breath to allow a third language such as Chinese, or Latin -- at this time folks are merely getting by, there are no resources or fight left and languages other than French and English is not PRIORITY
  18. I won't rely on your opinion that language is the reason why people leave NB. Examine the unemployment rates in the entire East Coast NB - 10% NFD - 17% PEI - 12% Now look at the regions that your folks are migrating to rates look like this ON and BC - 7% MB - 6% AB - 5% There are greater opportunities for work in ON, AB and BC
  19. Every parent wants what is good for the child and we as parents have a tendency to make some judgement based on what is familiar and other traits such as: our limitations own judgement our influence by experience our knowledge our scholarly inclinations our prestigious job our family life and tradition the size of our family and the resources and time available to proceed with court hearings we also base our judgement on these: our education disadvantage or low income status our single family home our deprived self or perhaps being in the educational system in the 1970’s oppose to 2000’s lots have changed since then I am glad we live in a country where there is access to freedom of choice. The gentleman in questions contends that his child should have a choice to attend a school program the parent wishes. The scenario of his being in government allows me to believe this is more of politics than it is good for the child but, in the end can set a major precedent for those very choices of folks wanting to choose mostly unwisely or wisely. I am of the opinion that if the school system and educators think the child will benefit in learning this one way, like it works now and has worked in the past and if they have had some track record for saying this then where is the sin
  20. Stoker Minority languages are not promoted because these folks are kept economically deprived and is one reason for non-consideration of other languages to be further as mainstream But also promoting Latin or Chinese as it were set students up to become a failure for now anyway – there isn’t enough support systems in place hence jobs that they likely will access is in their immediate community, and McDonald’s and now a major question to you Does the child have a right to have his native language develop in Canada? The answer our official languages are English and French, this is our right. French and English define who we are as Canadians. Learning French and English allows student to promote themselves to advancing opportunities and access the school system, university life and higher education to become say a doctor, or a lawyer, a scientist or some scope higher than the nearby Walmart I agree based on immigration we are becoming more diverse in our make-up and my argument is because of this diversity we must stay with some commonality in our language. And that even though sub-cultures can rightfully challenge us at any cost, we cannot be sway, and prudence and ambition to success of a country must prevail. Otherwise, we can see emergence of disunity of this Canada and this time its not a French/English battle, but fuelling ground to foster hostility between ethnic groups
  21. Well thanks for clearing that part up because it is exactly what I gathered from the opening thread well it is my good intention to use the word "dispute" as an intransitive verb because of the white lines, and because the father is in some argument, altercation, quarrel, and now litigation for his child to attend a French immersion program. Though it has other meanings, I think commonly and mistakingly "dispute" is used connote the negative, against or resist or oppose especially as in the sentence "gentleman disputing his kid attending the French Immersion program " But anyway, I believe that the child in Quebec should adapt to the education system in Quebec not the French Immersion (even though the Frence Immersion is a likely outcome) especially if the intention is for the child to grow up in the Province of Quebec. Firstly, because of the culture and secondly, I think the school is probably the best to decide how the kid integrates, they have been doing this for a while and usually they are right. oh I guarantee have experience with this, I think mostly what can be done to the from the parent standpoint is to enhance the child's learning however you do this. And in the French Immersion aren't they doing like 100% French language in their first years anyway. But a broader sense, for bilingual education which I endorsed if the value in terms of greater earning power is there, and the French culture enhances and enriches our lives oppose to LIMITE us then, it is to an advantage to promote French or more than one language (but more languages than French won't happen) One way to measure the success would be to track how well our students are doing in their acheivements and their outcomes instead of being selfish, defeating and depriving oursleves to expansion. There are tons of research done that corelates exposure to multi language and favorable expansion of learning abilities in math, music and creative thinking
  22. well even when English is the first language there is no guarantee that people are actually successful or will be successful but here is what i think that bilingual education is a better alternative to immersion especially in Quebec. And in fact because this Canada is so rooted in its two cultures that the country's interest is best service by some larger scale institutional support system like the entire country learns the two languages then you are Canadian - I like that Now i have some very recent experience with the school and their French program as my kid is registered in the French immersion program, so for this fall an issue of transportation arised who pays - and one question asked was which school system I support - well as it winds up my issue is closed and much to my liking based on some polictics. so where is an English school that the child can attend oppose to the French immersion? ok so no English school around no problem we will bus her for FREE to the French Immersion program It reminded me of the time I showed up in court to dispute the a cop car hitting my boss's car, it was about some white line on the road that was suppose to be there - that incident was closed also much to my liking But, I suspect the gentleman disputing his kid attending the French Immersion program is very much like those white lines and will be to his liking.
  23. Congratulations to all our athletes and welcome home. We are proud that you represented us. But what’s up with the “little blue cow” who was actually white, wondered if funding was also not available to put its color into perspective
  24. Big Blue Machine I think most people here are working folks, and least likely to spend time with instant messages Maybe if you would like to message the members that you can see as on-line you could ask the moderator to activate the Mapleleaf webchat -- if that was the purpose of the chat
  25. why so? because she knows now and also have the experience to beg
