  1. There was much mockery in her speech, it mocked the institution, quibble over semantics and the politics with her hiring and it was written that way. I mean where do you get off saying you were hired because you are "hot" and now "passionate"
  2. usually information about privacy and HIV is personal but in this case they believe it to be in the public health interest
  3. PocketRocket I sometimes become an occasional poster that is why now you "see" me and now you don't. 1990 - 2000 data The number of 18-34 years olds shrank by 9 million The number of 50+ grew by 12 million The baby boomers control 70% of all America's wealth and their discretionary spending amounts for 50% But these Gen X rich folks are spending more that the Baby Boomers Gen X income = 213 k Baby Boomers = 222,900k Gen X spends 27k on luxury vs. baby boomers 23k Travel and home services are the same Gen X spending far exceeds the Baby Boomers in a number of luxury goods categories including: 60% more than Baby Boomers on fragrance, cosmetics and beauty products ($3,235 vs. $2,017), 47% more on fashion accessories ($6,066 vs. $4,116), 37% more on men's and women's clothing ($23,027 vs. $16,924), 32% more on wines and liquors ($3,922 vs. $2,966). 33% more than Boomers for entertainment ($3,629 vs. $2,722), 17% more for personal/health services ($3,324 vs. $2,838), 11% more for sporting events ($4,176 vs. $3,769). Data is taken from this website http://www.slfp.com/StyleSTL83.htm If you didn't have money for your pension now you know why. First you did not make as much money and then you also went on mindless spending spree over a long period.
  4. Well the law holds that a knife is not prima facie an offensive weapon – but you can’t carry around a knife with you. Discarding the original use of Kirpan for now. Even though the Kirpan is currently not designed to be used as a weapon, the general perception and look of the Kirpan puts the public in a defensive mode. It looks and smells like trouble. And welcome to what is real and current - there is a current real war on terror. The public is on major alert for box cutters and any weapon relatives simply because is poses imminent threats to safety of masses of people. I mean if are contending that this Kirpan is hidden for starters how come people are seeing it. Also, I wanted to ask if the Kirpan was accidentally dropped and someone is hurt who takes responsibility? You understand about public panic and outrage. Also, I wanted to find out if you have the statistics available for the number of incidences that Kirpan was used e.g. drawn to defend, uphold law, dignity and morality Then, would you personally draw your Kirpan under any circumstances. I think that general prohibition of Kirpan is justified and common sense. Kirpan is already not allowed on planes (but you don’t complain) greyhound coaches, via based on your info, and some schools. On the flip side when the argument becomes religion, logic hath gone awry I mean can I buy a small gun which I can carry in my purse, have all my millions of fellow Christian followers in sync and decide I don’t really intend to use guns as a weapon, for me a gun symbolizes freedom and liberty of humanity. I make this announcement even though I clearly know guns are weapons Here is what I dislike about this issue that my taxpayers dollars will be used to educated Canadians on Kirpan and teach them to be nice, tolerant and understand people are different, that you also must be smart enough to make some distinction between what you perceive as "terror" and "terror", plus be accommodating of their whims and fancies.
  5. Are women also carrying these Kirpan?
  6. I mean these boomers have so much wealth of knowledge, experience and intangibles about companies. In order to know the kinds of talents you are going to be losing, those information must be extracted. So do you have a game plan ready?. Also, I was wondering whether your companies have figured whether they can really afford to let 'em baby boomers go
  7. Perhaps, if you are easily impressed. She has a lot of honorary degrees. That doesn't impress me, frankly. She has sat on any number of commisions, boards and panels. That is impressive, sort of, but it speaks more of someone who is a political activist than anything else. And really, if you look at what Abella did while a judge, and what Charon did, you can clearly see that both were apointed specifically because of their political beliefs and orientation, not for any great perceived legal wisdom. Political judges <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Abella is someone women can draw on for strength and someone to follow
  8. If you flip one coin 9 times and the result is 4 heads 4 tails, the coin itself is bias or you are rather darn lucky, you need to do more flips to get 4 heads and 4 tails statistically lacks mathematical rigor
  9. Tell your kid to bet on the Russian ... Alla. She's a shoe-in. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> eh? I think not - I don't encourage stripping as a big start She actually told me to look at Randal for a politically correct selection
  10. well I did not see the connection between players behaving badly and dress code - what really is fuelling this decision I see and hear of lots of injuries i.e. bad behaviour in hockey. Its what the audience go to see and the players comply.
  11. What do you think about these reality shows? The star of the apprentice show is Donald Trump, with his massive ego, demanding answers. Reality shows encourages compulsive viewing Everyone is making it big, Donald well, he already have it all, the TV ratings, all the folks are writing books, the companies used in the show plus the viewers get a first hand experience on firing. I mean here is a show of ambitious people looking for a 6 figure salary are put into two teams, first men vs. women, then reshuffled, then mixed-up So first much conflict all around working in teams and on top of this put to work in pressured environment. This interview is a real competition, and so in the end if you are part of the losing team someone is fired. I brought it up because my kid said they were watching earlier episodes in their business class
  12. None of these anymore: - Sleveless shirts - Shorts - T-shirts - Bling, chains, pendants - Sunglasses while indoors - Headphones, caps - Tattoos?? I mean the NBA is appealing to an audience of hip hop culture that is “black and urban”. The players themselves are predominantly black, I mean how are you going to police dress codes when your biggest seller is certain image. The league is making a claim that players resemble folks in prison. Are you surprised; the overwhelmingly majority of people in prison are “blacks”.
  13. RB, the world does not lack for human beings. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well from the low birth rates in Canada it would seem this way. Your politicans believe Canada lacks people, they tell you this and have gone ahead to import more people. the western world is so liberated and free spirited: - look we can actually separate sex from marriage - look we can also legally separate sex for males and males - and also separate sex from females - now you can also separate sex and procreation I mean let me ask this of you, would you folks like to help increase this population with a few kids? Or you'd rather be independant and free of the burden of children.
  14. The best way to help folks is to use big words such as INTERVENTIONS as we do now: Cough up enough tax payers dollars for settlement, training, upgrading, labor market information, language skill, make moves on cultural intelligence, show about job find, settle legal issues then put them on welfare. In addition, since those methods listed have not worked in the past, try some more different methods, would include offering computer services for free, life skills orientation and pre-employment counseling to make folks job ready. I mean you do everything except help folks connect with jobs, help them land a job, maintain a job and integrate them sucessfully into the Canadian marketplace. In Canada we are inclined to boast of friendly service, doing everything we can, always smiling. The result no one is getting jobs! Folks are not assimilated into the economy Hence, they won’t own wealth, have much capital to work with and plus we are spending more while organizing useless labor Result more depressed people who cannot access the system. Result trouble groups Result poor people gathering. Result no relief. Result who cares, despair. Result no worthwhile contribution to society Result no responsibility I mean it’s the “undesirable” groups that are eliminating each other so what’s the worry
  15. Maybe we should look at the social issues that lead to violent crime, instead of making the same mistakes our neighbours have. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> look for answers at root cause: folks are from these war-torn and problem countries and familiarity with guns, weapons, arms etc. transfer in their behavior plus the poor neighborhoods simply create more stresses for those who cannot get out of poverty - I have seen some of these folks gazed into space and nothingness - literally
  16. I thought Toronto was talking about curfews for the young ones, whatever happened to that idea.
  17. I think the LACK of strict environmental laws can turn countries into pollution free heaven. What I mean firstly is that companies can move their businesses to these countries e.g. Mexico in order to profit and have cost benefits. So as expected there are trade gains for these lesser countries. Also, what are we working with. Look, if pollution is not produced (meaning that factories and people are not affected) I guess not much is necessary as they don’t need provision for adherence. How simple can we get - just no pollution. I did not look at the report so bear with me I wanted to ask these questions of Turkey in relation to say Canada 1) What is the most polluting industry in Turkey and who is investing in it, and where are they exporting these products to 2) Next what is there a budget allocation for say factory inspection 3) Do that have hefty tolls for busy cities 4) Do they have drive clean program 5) Do they try to decrease emission (or they have programs with no justification) 6) Do they impose fines of contaminating factory, closures and machinery 7) Or their government declares they are unaware of environmental problems Well, even if foreign countries are polluting the environment, here is what I believe that most of the companies polluting Turkey is absorbed into the domestic markets And that the governments in Turkey are self adherent. My question to ask is perhaps whether they have enough money to conform to environment laws and adherance in par with Canada or the US. Did I hear you say no. I can certainly believe something more of this nature, that would produce such a favorable report of Turkey. That Turkey must on par with environmental regulations but whether they implement, adhere and monitor these is questionable. I further have to think that most of their consumption is for domestic usage. Who is Turkey trading with anyways?
  18. If you read their recommendations for Ontario, you'll get a pretty good idea whos interests they represent (hint: not the general public) Did you notice from the graphs that there is a relation of BIGGER government BIGGER spending in the economies and those provinces that rely on support and transfer monies in Canada are even BIGGER? Did you also notice that Ontario government spending is bigger than most of the States and rank at the bottom 20% (hint maybe it ain't about the general public interest but, how big we can grow government) or maybe we want to follow economies that actually have successes Look you want to have an economy that is growth oriented and one that produces, you want a better standard of living, the first thing in to downsize the government. The burden exist with the people when governments are big. No country can improve their social standards by asking its citizens or companies to pay more taxes which is what this government is doing Next spending on social services should be less that 20% of GDP current levels are somewhere around 68% (add health, welfare and education) - why would you encourage welfarce and other social hand outs when people need to go to work, plus why not give some options to folks who can contribute and pay for their own services as in health care and education Re-establish priorities then allocate the spending - very much like businesses we can encourage maximum result with less cost.
  19. I didn’t address your point on Canadian values and principles because we have to face a reality and include the diversity. The moment you start thinking people are different and foreigners becomes a challenge. You think reflexive, like here are the rules. It is difficult, on seeing a woman hiding under a burka, who does not speak any English, who looks with contempt at all western women as "whores" and who thinks the rest of us are Godless heathens, and who would be horrified if her children ever tried to date, much less date a "Canadian" to think of her as anything but a foreigner. I disagree. They are distinct groups of people who came from other countries, and uphold the values, traditions and culture of those other countries, clearly thinking them better than ours (as we all do about our own cultures and traditions). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Do you consider infidels authority on values? They are sinning everyday and often. You want me to believe that these are the folks graced with high morals, and that foreigners should adopt, follow, or mimic their behavior? I mean your culture is loose and disapproving when it comes to setting examples. Look at your laws set to have sex with 14 year olds I certainly won’t approve or date fellows who make high claims of the many “whores” they have dated, been with, and how they proceed to boost of their conquest, like their little black book. Your culture is simply immoral, you sleep around with every moving object, don’t try to impose bad for those that wish to retain decency, those who still believe in purity and have some high standard in place. Why do others have to look at the Western culture for morals when you want to reject theirs. I guess you are speaking with the wrong person when it comes to dating scene. In the western world you can justify bad behavior with reasoning of being liberated, a politically correct way to explain terrible behavior.
  20. 20m? That's like 40 years ago. And here I thought I was the only old fart here. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, Yodeler I hope Argus simply ignore your flare of wisdom, plus your myrid conclusion
  21. I didn’t address your point on Canadian values and principles because we have to face a reality and include the diversity. The moment you start thinking people are different and foreigners becomes a challenge. You think reflexive, like here are the rules. I want to let you know that it is Canadians who have invented spatial segregation to keep “others” separate hence your inablity to absorb them. Look, communities as you might wish to refer to those outside of “Canadians traditions” are mostly imagined and get constructed to fit relations you would like to have e.g. Chinatown. These folks are the usual suspect groups that fit into some rubric of the framework for exclusion for various reasons such as ethnic votes. They get put into "this" or "that" group and we gladly identify them that way. What I want to say is being “white” is normal and basically invisible and this is what is represented in Canadian traditions, values, and culture. But, here are some values and principles I respect - dignity and equality for all - equal freedom and participate in politics - equal access to goods and law - Canadians to care for those less advantage - Basic necessity of life, food, clothing, house and health - Justice for all, - and a land that practice democracy What values, customs, culture and traditions you were thinking of? You are not losing your traditions of national belonging, its just that you have forced and reinforced presumed differences for the alienated groups that they have grown in numbers and is problematic But not to despair because over 70% of the wealth still belong to Canadians. Is this discomforting I wonder?

  23. Argus Posted Yesterday, 07:24 PM Then why do we need more? Well, immigration is to link to economics, and labor market. There is a chain reaction from immigration (continuing from previous post) - Provides Lawyers safe heaven for work - More social programs needed – lots of new companies - Refugee claims more work for departments - More education program (lots private schools) - More investment - maybe they will employ others - Promote humanitarian tradition of providing safe haven - Cultural orientation programs (more new businesses) - Recognition of qualifications and experience for new Canadian (cost the folks to have this done you know) - Building new communities, or making bigger old communities - folks do need their roots in order to succeed - More housing needed - Facilitate brain drain in other counties so that we can effectively compete in the future - thats a good contingency - and finally the kicker - Allow real Canadians to exit to the US market As a result - less unemployment - Strong dollar - Growth economy - Budget surplus to pay off the debt Criticism of the immigration system We import qualified folks based on a point system with no responsibility and view to what will happen to future labor markets or ignore consequences of the business cycle. For example, it was only recently we make claims of shortages of IT workers and bent on importing tons of IT workers clueless about potential bust in the IT market. What happened to all those shortages, and the lot that came in - I mean are they in tax department?. Similarly we continue to import engineers and saturate the market with folks who have 20 year old lagging technology and want them to operate in the Canadian market. Now we are asking for truckers to fill the Maritimes. The immigration system have mostly benefited third world immigrants who are better off even living below the poverty line in Canada compare to their homeland. If the government truly believes that immigration is linked to labor market then folks migrating should have jobs lined up before entry. So maybe, if we can make it easier for employers to access foreign workers we can have can have a whole lot of desirables entering into Canada. I mean is this in line with your wishes?
  24. Why do you believe that? The world's biggest countries are, for the most part, unsuccessful. While some of the world's smallest countries are extremely wealthy. This current population is not reproducing, at some point we will reach dire straits when the death rate > than birth rate and what then Demographers have shown that the population will continue to increase, even with zero immgration, for at least another ten years. It would then begin to decline, but not noticeably for at least a century. Immigration at a level of about 75k per year would be sufficient to stop the population from getting smaller. Our present immigration is over 200,000, and Martin plans to increase this to over 300,000 So... would you care to try again? Yes - we are a country built on immigration - I mean what is your major trouble with increase of immigration levels? If new Canadians access jobs they -will contribute to the Canadian economy -will pay taxes -will buy goods and services -will join your security and protect the country -will use your schools, and medical services -will vote -will help you access different market hopefully -will help you multiply you get the picture I see the general negative perception of immigrants accessing the social safety net, and unemployment are the usual threats Likely also, even though the new Canadians are much more skilled than previously the truth is they are not doing very well. Businesses should really be involved in this recruit of immigration - I mean the Liberals are saying there are skilled jobs that are currently unfilled hence the outreach to imports of labor. I would like to see these businesses come forward and stake their claims on these new workers if it were this easy. Look, if there are contingencies in place to welcome the new wave they will contribute quicker to production and add value to the Canadian economy, otherwise it is stalemate. I see the folks arrive in Canada with perhaps 15k and after 9months of no integration and false hopes of finding work similar to their previous job in their homeland, they start accepting menial opportunity and falls into the system. We have the most highly educated taxi drivers around town. Next, I wonder why government has not focus internally, like put in place some policies.....attractive parental rewards to appeal to current Canadian women to increase birth rates. I'll buy into any sexy parental packages otherwise women just keep putting off having kids.
