So long as her flag isn't flown too high, after which you're morally compelled to do something about such affrontery.

Israel's 10 year racist law anniversary
bleeding heart replied to Hudson Jones's topic in The Rest of the World
Again, the analogy is flat-out bizarre. ??? Where the hell did you get this from anything I've said...anything I've ever said? What's unreasonable is your inventing opinions for me that I don't hold and have not expressed. It does sound low indeed, I completely agree. And again...do you apply this as well to the noble defenders of the Western terrorists....or do they get a pass for...some reason, unstated? . no, I don't believe any such thing; mostly because I have never heard you express any such desire. Wow. So now I'm an anti-Semite. Yeah, that's a reasonable response. And in direct contradiction to what you've said to me elsewhere....even though I haven't changed my opinions or indeed said anything new on the subject in quite some time. I presume you're going to cite the hard proof of my hatred for Jewish identity. You must be able to, because otherwise such a remark would expose you as a sniveling little moral coward. And since you're not one, my anti-Semitism must5 be easy to prove. (My remarks about the anonymous identity of a poster whose writing I've never looked at doesn't, obviously, quite count as hard evidence.) -

I have offered no opinion whatsoever about Morris's work--pro or con. Nor have I offered any opinion on Hudson Jones, whose posts I haven't read and so cannot begin to speculate if you're right or wrong about him. What I did do was to expose that your declarative remarks--that Morris does not consider himself to be an historian, and so it would be absurd to classify him as such--are flatly untrue. He is a Professor of History who explicitly deems himself an "historian." So...are you just making stuff up now, or what? Do you suppose that illustrates the strength of your argument? (A rhetorical question; it obviously does do exactly that, though perhaps not in the way you'd hope.) -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benny_Morris So here's where the Professor of History calls himself an "historian." Can you cite where he does not? -

First of all, that wins a prize for most inane "analogy"; no small feat, given the competition. "Hudson Jones" has no more of a "false identity" and double life than the overwhelming majority of posters...here and elsewhere. Second, people hiding or denying their homosexuality was a rational, perfectly understandable move...given the obscene bigotry towards gay people. Moot anyway, because all you were actually doing was insinuating that someone is gay...because you perceive it as an insult. -

Because gay people are morally suspect...eh Rue? -
If you're going to raise the question of "a baby's consent"--and it's inherent extrapolation to all children of every age, on any number of subjects..then this is going to turn into quite the discussion. But when they are caught, they are punished. How is this going to work in the other case? No one could ever possibly be caught or punished...so a total waste of time.

How much does it cost to change a lightbulb? $2600!?
bleeding heart replied to Boges's topic in Local Politics in Canada
I'm inclined to agree. I've heard such remarks, as well as derision and mockery about retail employees, many times, here on MLW, from liberals and conservatives alike. So it's a bipartisan snobbery. I don't think people really mean it this way, however. I guess since I used to work there, I see the labour force as ordinary, hardworking human beings, rather than as losers and drones. I'm not normally one to say "in the old days"....but it does seem to me that a generation or two ago, more people had respect for work...regardless of what that work was. so while people complain about people on social assistance, or folks who aren't looking for work because they can't find a job "suitable for their skills".....I would hope that having a little respect for Walmart employees is in order. There...preaching done for the day! -

Not only. And why do you keep insisting it's not a "real job"? I worked there, for a time. It's as real as any other job. -

Yes, shame on anyone for letting the spirit of giving interfere with political anger. -
Do you suppose FOX News is hoping to give Noam Chomsky his own editorializing program? Why aren't they?

Yes, my mistake. The one time I posted inarguably false information (carelessly, not intentionally)I edited (and posted the reason for the edit) after it was pointed out to me, yes. So I appreciate your belief in my integrity on the matter.

To this day, it remains a conventional piety, a reflexive generalization that assiduously avoids ugly details. Anything and everything is justified! hooray!

no issue at all, eh? OK, gunrutz--let's pretend for a moment that you've thought this through--explain to us exactly "there would be no issue at all in making gender selective abortion illegal." All a woman would have to do is not admit this was the reason for the abortion. That's it. So, gunrutz--again, since you've really considered this matter (or else you wouldn't be offering your opinion on it...correct?)...how would the authorities find out if gender selection was the reason? I suppose she could be tortured...no doubt some on the political Right would get little tents in their pants at the thought--but that might be slightly controversial. So...your thoughts?

I'd suggest to you that the majority of Walmart employees desperately need the job...and that it's certainly a "real" job, just as "real" as any job you've ever worked...and the turnover is high because the company policies are sometimes hostile to their own labour force.
