Yeah, it depends on his definitions. I wouldn't say Turkey is democratic but he has 'very' and 'rather democratic' so clearly he doesnt mean Turkey is a perfect democracy. It is somewhat democratic in that it elects people though a voting process. The not so free press is a sticking point though.
Same with Egypt. There have been some elections recently but that doesn't make it democracy.
Iran is in the list under 'not democratic.'
The Bush and Obama stuff might have had something to do with it but I wouldn't be surprised if you got similar numbers if the same poll was taken today.

I remember seeing that. As much as I love American politics doing that seems a bit silly.
Also, there is a lot to admire in American politics but there is a lot to dislike as well.
For the past week I've been receiving emails from the Santorum campaign asking for donations and support.
I'm pretty sure I can't donate to American politicians. And I have no idea where they got my email.
I've been meaning to start a thread on China considering its growing importance and the upcoming transition.
With the recent 'Coup' (ie. the sacking of Bo Xilai, a increasingly powerful party boss) now seems like a good time.
I found this article very interesting and it shed some light on some past grudges that I wasn't aware of.
These type of power struggles never seem to go in the right direction. But in my opinion this turned out well.

Apparently it is more of my impression of the WR party that is off the mark. My third party was the WR and the NDP was last. That wasn't what I expected.
Agreed. There have been a few missteps lately too. Messaging hasnt been as tight or consistent since they got the majority. In a way it is harder having a majority.
