The United Socialist States of Radjabov is a huge, environmentally stunning nation, notable for its strong anti-business politics. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 368 million are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whoever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives. It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Education, Healthcare, and Social Welfare. The average income tax rate is 100%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out. Citizens are allowed to rise or fall based on their own merits, all-natural foods are becoming a major fad, female newsreaders distract the nation by breastfeeding during broadcast, and the government seizes the property of the recently deceased. Crime is well under control. Radjabov's national animal is the black eagle, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the lek. Radjabov is ranked 243rd in the region and 10,682nd in the world for Most Eco-Friendly Governments. Civil Rights:Superb Economy:Developing Political Freedoms:Superb UN Category: Left-wing Utopia

We(Canada/US) like to abide by the rules of Nafta as long as we have the advantage in the deal. -
Six Nations occupation at Caledonia
lost&outofcontrol replied to Renegade's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
How can you live off the land when you are stuck on the smallest/worst piece of land around? The French lost all their North American possessions(almost all) in wars, the Indians were made promises that were not kept and have been getting screwed ever since. Why should they? Why is our version of society the correct one? A very ethnocentric way of thinking... You would fit right into Nazi Germany in the late 30's, They're different, assimilate or get out. -

And yet real wages are at the same level they've been since 1948 and thats without taking into account all the new taxes. When someone buys a hummer, he ends up buying more gas driving the price up for the rest of us. Funny how your libertarian views end when someone has it nicer eh? And I quote from the Six Nations thread: -

I have nothing against temporary assistance programs that are directed specifically at natives. I have a big problem with setting up a permanent system of apartheid in this country that we will be stuck with long after any problems within the native communities have been addressed. It should concern you as well. Apartheid -

Won't the US side get to keep 20 cents on the dollar? I'll post my opinion on the deal once I get more info. -

The short answer is that there is a difference between what most people think of Marxism and what Marxism really is. -

Do you really think it's reasonable to wait 100 years for justice ? Would that be fast enough for you if you lost your land ? At a certain amount of powerlessness, rage takes root. Exacly! **OT** I vote for Micheal to become a mod if ever a position opens up. He's not a hot head like some of us(Like me!) -
Lowering the flag for slain soldiers?

I like that idea. We could make a circular flag pole, that way, no top and bottom. -

But they are not. They only ask for what is rightfully theirs, They've been filling complaints for the past 25 years and haven't even been acknowledge. -
Lowering the flag for slain soldiers?

The point I'm trying to make here is that whether the prime minister is Harper, Martin or even Layton, we're all stuck with flip floppers. We would rather spend a full day "debating" the issue of lowering a freaking flag than actually debate issues which are more important. It's the hypocrisies of toady's politician hence today's politics. Again, meet the new boss, same as the old boss. -

The land belongs to them by order of the British crown and was repossessed by the .gov. They've filed many complaints over the years but to no avail. Here is a short article on the subject. -
How do you think W. Bush sounds like to the Arab world? Pretty much the same as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is portrayed to us by the media, a crazy loon. It's a matter of perception.

Um, it was passed unanimously, from the article I liked to: That means everybody including Harper agreed with the policy at the time. Oddly enough, while looking at past votes in the House, I stumbled upon this one, Harper himself voted for the gun registry legislation at Second Reading way back in 1995. -
Upcoming Federal Budget for 2 May
lost&outofcontrol replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'll keep an eye out for it. Once a month, I stop by the book market and buy everything that catches my eye. Last month I bought 12 books with a retail value of over $700, my total was $46 . Hurray for used books. -
Do Leftists eventually turn Right?
lost&outofcontrol replied to August1991's topic in Political Philosophy
I was a staunch libertarian CPC voter until a few years ago when my interest/curiosity in politics became greater and now you could qualify me as a true Marxist. So I went the other way; from right to left. -

Please accept my apologies, I saw the homelessness defence and jumped in without looking. Don't you think that it's wrong to basically employ these people as slave labour just because they were born with "disabilities" (And that's another thing that pisses me off, we are great at stigmatizing people because they aren't "normal" but that's for another thread)? -
Upcoming Federal Budget for 2 May
lost&outofcontrol replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't know how we enforce it. I'll read up a bit more on the subject (economics and me = ). But the vast majority of currency trading takes place within the major banks and financial institutions of the world (think Chase Manhattan etc..). So there should already be a certain system in place for keeping track of these kinds of transactions. The thing is even if a country maintains solid economic policy, it doesn't have control of outside "interference". I'll quote myself here: So the Mexican people were left with the bill even though they followed the rules concerning the liberalization of its financial systems. This is basically what happened during the East Asian crisis too. So like I said even if a country maintains good economic policies (and those are debatable i.e. IMF and WB imposed conditions), it may not guaranty them economic prosperity. -

I'm sorry but I must reply to this. You are aware that on average, %66 of qualified homeless people have a history or can be diagnosed with mental illness. They have no other other place to go and cannot "function" in our "normal" society the same way you and I can. I certainly hope you are not basing your opinion of the "welfare state" on your own misguided ignorance. It's easier taking the road of ignorance but it certainly doesn't help anyone. I have very little patience with people who choose ignorance. Now back you you scheduled programing.... -

Didn't the torys under Harper vote to lower the flag to half mast in 2002(I think). I'll search for an article on the subject. Having said that, this is arguing over semantics when we shouldn't even be there(Afghanistan) There we go: Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. -

The Tobin tax isn't there to necessarily reduce currency speculation (I never said that by the way), it's there to help out countries that were screwed by currency speculation. Not everyone wins in the currency speculation game. It's not a zero sums game, I'll agree but you can't deny the effects of it. Many East Asian countries and Latin American countries are still feeling the effects of the mid 90s economic crisis made possible by currency speculation. The countries most affected by this phenomena are the freest one in the world(economically, conditions forced upon them by the IMF & World Bank). **edit** If you calculate %0.1 of 1 trillion, it's 10 billion dollars/per day, not chump change. -
Harper Makes Child Care a Confidence Vote
lost&outofcontrol replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Did you factor the benefit of tjhe childcare deduction? So the parent is getting money on top of the subsidy they were already getting. No, didn't they get the Childcare deduction before the Tory .gov too? -
Harper Makes Child Care a Confidence Vote
lost&outofcontrol replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I agree with you that the Liberal system was not adequate but how will the Tory system help? $100 a month barely makes a dent in the cost of daycare. In Ottawa, the average cost is just under $800 a month per child! If she's working at close to minimum wages, half her monthly income is going straight to daycare payments! -
"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" Emma Lazarus I guess these days this only applies when we need cheap labour.
