  1. Being a woman, I myself see red over incidents of scheming women trying to lure married men. I know some will say that married men ought to know better....which is true. But that doesn't let the femme fatale off the hook so easily. If you'd ask a wronged wife whose eyes would she prefer to scratch out first? I'd be betting she'd go for the woman. So speaking as a woman who put herself in the shoes of another woman...and as a wife in the shoes of another wife...facing someone like Belinda... ...with her being in the public eye...with all her money and power....I would say, she is a dog. But then, that is just my opinion of her based on all these scandals....which she found herself in.
  2. Talk radio hosts. Some of the comments were pretty outrageous. Oh, I thought you meant the Conservative Party MPs attacked her. Because actually on MDuffy during that week of scandal with Domi....the journalists (most of whom are Liberal-leaning media members...and most of whom are women!) were all having a good laugh about the incident. When one commented that Belinda seem to attract attention to herself, the author of her book even acknowledge that Belinda seem to relish all the attention she gets. I think what was ugly about this affair of Belinda is the fact that a family was involved. This is not just the case comparable to that of a man chasing women....this is about a woman being accused of wrecking a home. This is soap opera material! Who loves soap? Who are the target audience for soap? What kind of scandal makes the ratings go high?
  3. It was a generalized comment. Check the other threads and you'll see what I mean.
  4. The journalists are saying that the House of Commons had gotten worse. That the MPs on both sides are like children.
  5. Actually that's exactly my observation towards most liberals. Usually after all their huffs and puffs....and they're challenged to provide something on which they've based their arguments....they usually go pfffft. And then the screaming and the name-calling begins. And speaking of parrots....funny you mentioned that. They do pick up words just like that. The latest word that I could think of is the sudden abundance of people using the word, "nuanced".
  6. Actually, the right wing did attack her on the Domi thing. Radio and newspapers had a field day. And yes, it was a moral angle. That is the angle that right often attacks the left on. And the melodrama is Peter MacKay. He can't leave this alone. Seems Stronach has moved on. I don't know that Stronach is popular with women but it seems Conservatives are not popular with women. And yet the right continue their attacks on Stronach. It seems petty. Makes the Conservatives look like a jealous ex-boyfriend. What "right wing" attacked her on the Domi thing?
  7. Just like there have been strong women in history who were anti-war because they knew the consequences of war (death, poverty, violence,) So these strong anti-war women that you speak of know the consequences of war. Do they know the consequences of no war? The consequences of appeasement and surrender? The consequences of being invaded by the enemy?
  8. Just like there have been strong women in history who were anti-war because they knew the consequences of war (death, poverty, violence,) Sadly, I do agree with you about some women not shying away from force. There has been a disturbing trend of women suicide bombers in recent history, especially in the Middle East . Can you please name some strong women rulers in history who were anti-war?
  9. As Craig Oliver put it, McKay did not actually say the word "dog." That's why McKay is saying it's nowhere in the transcript. But the implication is there. I think the break-up of McKay and Stronach had been rather ugly. Of course we are not privvy to all the sordid details. McKay should just apologise for letting his personal feelings spill over. Break-ups could bring out the worse in anyone....so it should not really be a major issue.
  10. Do you ever go a day without missing it? About thrice I dreamt in my sleep of smoking. Boy, I did enjoy it in my dream...but I also felt the guilt along with it in my dream. It was like getting caught with my hands in the cookie jar. But wide awake....no, I don't miss it anymore. And when we socialize, we're usually surrounded by smokers. Mind you they smoke outside...but you could still see them enjoying their puffs with their drinks.
  11. Wouldn't it be much better if we operated soup kitchens and deliver already-prepared food for those who are old and disabled? Nothing fancy (could be just soup and sandwiches ready to pop in a micro)....ready-to-eat, including diabetic or diet-restricted food (since I find that most old folks tend not to bother preparing their food, that's why a lot of them are not eating properly). Like each community have their own.
  12. Most notable women who ruled throughout history did not shy away from using force and might. They were not anti-war! They were for defending their countries and their way of life. Some had been more aggressive...and were not above doing violence in the name of vengeance.
  13. On one hand I understand what the argiment is all about. The intention may mean well....but it is something that is worrisome. It is very controlling and it steps on the people's right to choose. IF IT HAD TO COME TO THAT, I think we're better off to scrap the whole health care system....and let people pay for usage. Then maybe people will start being more responsible...and of their own volition...try to acquire a healthy lifestyle. The less reason they need to see the doctor, the better for them. It will be too bad for those who cannot afford medical asstance....but it will be too bad for everyone if we start getting pushed to follow whoever decides what is the best for us. Anyway, right now the poor are in no better position to adapt to a real good healthy eating. Have you guys checked the bulk section in freezers and shelves? The ones the poor or those who are trying to stretch a paycheque may buy...do check out the ingredients and nutritional info.
  14. Refresh my memory please. Who? You can't guess? No. I can't think of anyone...either from the NDP or Conservatives. So whom are you refrring to? And what incident? Or is this just another cheap blind swipe?
  15. Gee, that would be like smearing a whole party based on something one prominent member said. Where have you heard that before? Refresh my memory please. Who?
  16. Philosophies like that can get you addicted to things. I know. It took several attempts before I finally booted cigarettes out of my life. Cold turkey! Fourteen years ago! And I was smoking two packs a day. Voluntarily. No pressure from anyone. That's the best way I think.
  17. So what about those high risk or extreme sports? Health care includes those...and sometimes taxpayers pay for rescue efforts. And rescue efforts needlessly endanger the lives of resuers too.
  18. "It's all in your genes!" .... or ... "When it's your time to go, it's your time to go!" ... some say, carelessly. Or some say: "well I'd rather die having enjoyed life the way I want to." For some it's the "quality" of life they've lived that counts.
  19. You should have rebutted: "if it's not your time to go,you will survive. If you don't survive, then your time is up."
  20. Her first name is Olivia. Are you ignorant of that, or do you find it funny to mock Chinese names? Wasn't it a prominent Liberal guy who referred to Chow as "Chow-Chow?" Or something doggie about her name? It was said by Tim Powers that Liberal Coderre had referred to Ambrose as a "potted plant." Anyway, I've got a Chinese name....and puhleez...let's not turn this into a race thingy.
  21. It was a foolish thing to do for McKay....for letting personal feelings to get the better of him. But I notice that Belinda really turned this around and used it not only to get back at McKay (which should have been understandable)....but also to smear the whole Conservative Party (which is totally unfair). Suddenly, it is the whole party's fault! She's saying that they have shown their true color! Why would one man's personal opinion (considering the history between McKay and Stronach) be somehow the reflection on everyone in that party? Just because some Liberal MPs have dabbled in corruption....should we then conclude that the whole Liberal party is showing its true colors? That all Liberal MPs are crooks...or corrupt?
  22. I wouldn't have had this much interest in politics....had it not been for my dad and husband.
  23. If it's true, it does seem rather juvenile of him. Whatver happened between them should remain just between them.
  24. The logic is that if you agree that any risk factor should determine the funding contribution to health coverage, then it should extend to all risk factors. I'd go as far as is practically possible. Practically everything could be determined as a risk factor. Sometime ago there was even a finding that taking vitamine A supplements could contribute to heart disease. This was after vitamin A was touted to be good for you. Those subsititutes they put in food in lieu of fats (for non-fat items)...or low-calorie drinks (sugar substitutes): on one hand they're being sold as something that is supposed to be "healthy" for you....but are they really? All those herbal medicines and supplements that we take thinking they are beneficial to us health-wise could actually be fatal for you, since they are unregulated and not much studies had gone into some of them. And yet they're being sold at health stores. What we've been told before are being revised these days...because of technology. So how can we truly say that one thing is bad for you. For all you know, it isn't solely just that one thing....but a combination of other things that's making it bad for you.
