Is Stephane Dion also a citizen of France
betsy replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Not all promises come during an election. Some come in throne speeches, some come from the prime minister and the cabinet in the course of their term. It's December now. Dual citizenship was an issue in the summer. I repeat, why haven't they "revisited" the issue now, especially since they Dion in power? Mind you, they're still stuck with other pressing issues such as accountability, environment, and what else is there before the Senate Then there's this SSM that will be brought up this week (which was an election promise, btw)...then there's the issue with RCMP Commisioner on the Arar case....so maybe they've got a lot on their plates right now. Maybe they're still trying to figure out what to do in the backrooms. Maybe they don't see Dion's dual citizenship as a big deal...who knows... Anyway, aren't you a Liberal supporter? -

It is December. Why haven't the Tories introduced a law on dual citizens? Is this another broke promise? Why, was it made a promise during election time? Your link never mentioned anything about a promise to change it....although it did say that they plan to re-visit the issue. -
Is There Electoral Bias at Elections Canada

Liberal ClimateLeave them be. Other "charities" or "non-profit" organizations rally to support parties all of the time. But why do they have to use the Liberal Party logo? -

Maybe Harper could make a law against dual citizenship. He's been for some time now. Why hasn't he? The question of dual citizenship was briefly touched on the news regarding the Lebanese-Canadians who reside in Lebanon (and do not pay any taxes in Canada), and had to be rescued from Lebanon using Canadian taxpayers money. Some of the rescued Lebanese interviewed sounded like ingrates...which of course some Canadians resented, and I think fueled the dual citizenship issue. Don't know what became of it...just talk I guess. -

Jane Taber interviewed Dion today on MDuffy Live. She brought up the subject of him being a citizen of France. Yes, he is a citizen of France...and no, he doesn't think it will matter, since according to him, Canada comes first. -
For all these attempt at muddling the main issue in this topic, the fact remains: Nothing was said about integrity and corruptions, and the "culture of entitlement" the Liberals are perceived to have....that's the main reason why they lost the election. That's what they talked of fixing right after their defeat in the last election. How they'll clean up from the top down! So of course people who are concerned about their corruptive nature as a party would want to hear what their plans are? Some had detailed plans envisioned for making "megatons of money" as part of their environmental plans...so what about corruptions and this culture of entitlement? Not even a whiff of it! If they can include environmental plans, social justice, unity, etc., in their policies....why would the most important contributing factor of their loss suddenly be excluded?

What I do notice these days are all these cases of suicides happening....usually also involving homicides! The latest being a mother who threw her son on a busy highway, then jumped after him. Why are people so prone to acts of extreme despair? That they see no other solution but to end it all? And why are there people like that man who in one day, had lost all his family in a fire 3 years ago (wife and 8 children)....and yet still found something to live for? Why is suicide so common these days? Is it just coincidence that extreme desparation that leads to suicide is escalating at a time when society is turning away from God and faith?

Dion's Clean Air Plan Rips Off a David Suzuki report?
betsy replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You and company are the ones who seem desperately trying hard. Look! All I did was post an article. You and company reacted like a bomb exploded in your seats! Gee...you guys are too jumpy. Way too jumpy. -
Dion's Clean Air Plan Rips Off a David Suzuki report?
betsy replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't buy everything Suzuki says anyway. But if this is true...this is plagiarism. Which is a form of STEALING. I guess I sound desperate enough. Anyway...what is it really about the Liberals and Honesty? They seem to repel one another. -
And please, take the rationalization far enough for me. Prove to me that a God exists and the fairytales of the Bible are true -- I'm not talking pantheistic God which is a fancy way of being atheistic. Some beliefs that used to be dismissed as for "quacks" are already being applied...by doctors! Practitioners of the very science that you've extolled. You don't see what's already here in front of you...and you want Remiel to give you proof about God? It's not a matter of proving. It's all about believing. Don't consume yourself in trying to disprove a belief...or any belief...to a believer. Disproving somebody else's belief does not necessarily make yours right...besides, it doesn't make any difference to a believer anyway. In her/his mind, you are the one who is wrong. Yes, things can get better if you believe!
-
Not for non-believers of the belief. Ahhh...some people believe in the power of positive thinking. Even science believe in its benefits. The mind is yet unexplored completely. Who knows, maybe we even have the power to teleport...still untapped. Envisioning being in the tropics may not physically put you literally on the beach with palm trees swaying to balmy breeze...but some practitioners of some meditations would tell you they could experience that sensation if they wish to.

Nonsense. Faith is the easy way out that allows people to stop looking for answers. Appealing to an invisible all knowing and all powerful "God" -- which any rational mind can conclude that it does not exist -- is actually more harmful to us as people because it is a waste of time, energy and resources. Instead of studying what's out there for answers, instead of using science and fact, it's quite easy to shrugs one's shoulders and attribute things to a mystical magical God. This no longer feeling the need to seek the "truth" could be detrimental to our society. Imagine if we still believed in the mystical healing power of prayer instead of going to doctors who have taken the time to understand the "truth" about the human body. But of course it's nonsense to you. You are a non-believer! You do not believe for the reasons you've cited. But those beliefs which you describe as nonsense are still real for believers nevertheless. The need to seek the truth could also be detrimental to our society. Of course it depends on what "truth" it is that one really seeks. Seeking the truth could go on perpetually....wasting one's energy, burning one's self out...and even make one go insane. Religions abound more than ever now....what with all the other new ones that had cropped out...and I still see science moving on.

Stephane Dion's Clean Air Plan rips off a David Suzuki Foundation report The story of how Stephane Dion's "Clean Air Plan" grabbed chunks of the report "The Air We Breathe" put out by the David Suzuki Foundation has made it to the front page of the Globe and Mail online. Part of Dion environmental plan changed after blog report http://stevejanke.com/archives/195299.php Globe and Mail Update Tuesday, September 05, 2006 Liberal leadership candidate Stephane Dion's campaign hastily changed part of the candidate's environmental platform as posted on his Web site today after a blog reported that parts of it were almost identical copies — without attribution — of a David Suzuki Foundation paper published the previous week. Mr. Dion plans to formally unveil his $10-billion energy and climate change plan later today, but he has already been trumpeting his "Clean Air Plan" since Sept. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/Pag...orce_login=true

Well gc, I can't find a link...but the pundits and strategies were talking about the $400 million dollars misappropriated from environment budget. However, I stumbled on something that is also interesting while searching for that link. I'm posting it as a separate topic.
-
But there's the question of mis-appropriated funds for the environment. To the tune of $400 million dollars. We BOTH know? That's news to me. I know no such thing! The only thing I assume, the Auditor general is still doing her clean-sweeping....still turning and looking under rocks. Of course, there must be a lot of scurrying going on, as soon as they get a whiff of her heading towards their direction. That doesn't sound right. Harper was never known, nor even suspected of having eaten babies, therefore you wouldn't be expecting him to eat babies. Whereas the Liberal Party is neck-deep in corruptions...and discoveries are still being made! The last being that of the Environmental Ministry of Dion. There's the question of $400 million dollars in mis-appropriated funds! So, we've ended back right where we started.... full circle, gc....just as I feared. This merry-go-round makes me dizzy. Bye.
-
People will believe what they want to believe in. For various reasons.
-
Harper has no need to say he promise not to eat babies anymore! He never did eat babies! But the Liberals were caught with their hands in the cookie jar...several times! With all their loud noises right after the election about re-newing the party and to clean it up from top to bottom....then suddenly total clam-up about the whole thing...without any policy at all it seems to directly address that very issue (that incidentally caused them to lose)...is indeed worrisome! "Worrisome," exact word used by Layton today on MDuffy Live, wondering about the very same thing lacking from the candidates' speeches! No I don't judge politicians by their words alone. But we know politicians make a lot of promises, and a lot of promises are broken. But at least, some have been kept! But if there is no promise made at all...then there is nothing to expect! Nada! Zip.

Should Wal-Mart Entry be banned.....?
betsy replied to a topic in Federal Politics in the United States
What about other Big stores like Sears or Independent Grocery stores...competing with just about any small businesses....from hospitality-related businesses to offering services as carpet-installers, vent-cleaners etc.., How many small pizza and other take-out places are suffering because of the take-out meals from Independent Stores? They even sell single-sliced pizza for crying out loud! Same as McDonald's, Walmart is being singled out and demonized. I'm not happy with it, since the quality usually suffers. But let's face it, this is the lifestyle of the present, and perhaps, the future! Everything in one store! You know the old mantra, "if there is a demand...." -
Chrétien to PM: 'Can I call you Steve, like George W.?'
betsy replied to comup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I wouldn't say the CPC had done worse yet. The CPC had only been in power 8 months...the Liberals for 13 years! What good are rashed policies....if they cannot be sustained? Why should we waste money on something that isn't realistic....just so we can say we've got a policy. Besides, $400 million dollars could've helped a lot more if it hadn't just disappeared. -
Chrétien to PM: 'Can I call you Steve, like George W.?'
betsy replied to comup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
And what was his sage advice again to Harper about foreign relations? "You engage them, not insult them!" Did he mean like the way his and Martin's government treated the US? Chretien must be getting senile! -

betsy replied to comup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dion had the power. Environmental power! He blew it. "Oh I learn quickly....very quickly...", he says. Obviously. $400 million dollars worth of crash course under the tutelage of Chretien and Martin! -
Chrétien to PM: 'Can I call you Steve, like George W.?'
betsy replied to comup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Sour grape! I'd say Chretien is only jealous...since George never called him "Johnny." -
And that is your belief. ...and lies. And spin. And half truths-half-lies. And scams. Especially nowadays when just about anybody aims to write books. Illusion to some perhaps....but real for believers. If one had already found the truth...or no longer feels the need to seek the "truth".....and one feels the inner peace and calm that only faith can bring.....then I say at last, one had found the comfort of home.

Yes, their method of electing a leader is not really democratic when you think about it. I bet Dion promised Kennedy the world! The media suggested Ignatieff should promise Rae the moon and the stars at that moment when it was just between him and Dion.
-
Besides, do you really think there is finally UNITY? That there are no bitter lines drawn...especially after that election? How can you say there's unity.....if the driving force behind their decisions to stand behind Dion is based on one thing alone: ANYONE BUT IGNATIEFF! Ignatieff showed true Prime Ministerial material by the graciousness he accepted that defeat...which in a way you could say his own party ganged up against him. All the old Liberal establishment endorsing and crowning their boy. Wow, major grudges had formed right then and there. Boy, I'm glad Ignatieff did not win....or there'll be serious problem for harper come election time. He's got the charisma among the lot...and of all 8 candidates, he's the only one that got the chance of WINNABILITY against Harper. He would've delivered Quebec on the Liberal doorstep. All that unity stuff was all for photo-ops. I bet it won't be long when we'll be hearing about backroom bickerings just like the good old days. Already, the media's been hinting about the "real reason" Kennedy made a deal with Dion...and why Volpe walked over to Rae.
