  1. I am not in favor of funding religious schools either. Religious schools should fund themselves. Catholic schools included. However, I am not forgetting that McGuinty had at one time entertained the idea of legalizing Sharia Law in Ontario....and had only backed down after pressures from some groups. I don't trust the Liberals. They seem too cozy with a certain group.
  2. NOETE: There's a similar topic to this one but since this thread has more responses, I'll just bring my other post here. So here it is. "By significant majorities in Canada as a whole, and by overwhelming majorities in Quebec, Canadians and Quebecers declare limits to reasonable accommodation. When asked whether it was reasonable to accommodate religious and cultural minorities, or whether immigrants should fully adapt to culture in Canada, only 18 percent of respondents said reasonable accommodation best reflected their personal views, as opposed to 53 percent who thought immigrants should fully adapt (21 percent who agreed with neither statement). In Quebec, only 5.4 percent of respondents thought reasonable accommodation reflected their views, while fully 76.9 percent thought immigrants should fully adapt. Interestingly, the parts of Canada with fewer new Canadians were more likely to support accommodation. Leaders from across Canada should be watching the developments in Quebec, because they may well be a precursor of things to come in other parts of Canada." http://www.nikonthenumbers.com/topics/show/49 I think people are beginning to see the hole we've dug ourselves in. ...how impossible it is to accomodate and please everyone. It may seem such a wonderful idea - perhaps inspired by the CBC's choice for best song of the century, John Lenon's IMAGINE - but it should have just remained there...where it truly belongs: in our fantasy. I suspect people are getting fatigued and swamped by the back-to-back high-profile demands (the latest being the veil election controversy). They're simply fed up! Who wouldn't be? I see these demands as just the beginning of a long string of un-ending demands from every corner. Resources and energies should be more concentrated in getting immigrants to adapt to their new country. With this new information about the sentiments of the majority, especially in Quebec, I think some changes might be looming up ahead.
  3. They talked about this on MDuffy yesterday, with SES research study Nanos. That number in Quebec, 77%, was for the answer: immigrants should adapt to our country. And only 5.4 % was agreeable to reasonable accomodation. And the rest was either "no comment" or "undecided."
  4. Absolutely. That's why we've got to have the same rules for everyone!
  5. Of course. I wouldn't doubt that at all. In fact I'd be surprised if he did not do an excellent spiel! That was a golden opportunity to let slip by! Ask anyone in sales.
  6. Depends by what each and everyone of us see as "pandering." Some would argue with you that the Religious diets provided by Corrections Canada is just respecting the rights of those who want to practice their religious freedom. The terms, in my view, are not outlandish! I don't think they fall in the category of being "FRIVOLOUS!" BUT IF SOCIETY wants to scrap that privilege given to inmates in prison....I wouldn't lose any sleep about it, to tell you the truth! What? Just because this guy did not get anything else other than bacon, and frivolously made a stink about it - when there is evidently an acceptable alternative which is halal - your solution would be to deny everybody??? I wonder if that would still be your position had the complainant happened to have been a Christian who got bacon with his breakfast on a friday - along with his eggs, toasts, milk, cereals and juice - and he demands that he be given a substitute for the bacon since he does not eat meat on fridays. Your logic suggests that we give special preferential treatment to this man....simply because he is a Muslim!
  7. Ahhh...that's why "little" things like this should become issues! A little bit here, a little bit there....and it all adds up! And then bam! Suddenly there's this big expose' and only then do we realize that it's been an on-going practice all this time. For so long that it had already created a climate of entitlement. And we've been wasting all that money all along. What, weren't we outraged over the prison golf privileges for certain inmates? I don't remember them being Muslims either. And there was an outrage over Homolka's status too, I just couldn't remember what it was.
  8. Yes. And if it was a Christian, yes I'd like it promoted to a high profile! My outrage is over the frivolity of it...and for the way it was handled. In prison? Where? Cite so we'll know the full details. Cite some Canadian incidents. That Florida and California....well as I've told AW, she can go vent her outrage.....after all she is an American and it's American taxpayers who's shouldering those expenses. Besides, they might have their own different policies there. I'll be outraged over what we, as Canadian taxpayers, are wasting our hard-earned money for. Obviously it lies on the act! And the place! This facility is a prison....not a hotel. And the person, being that he is there for doing crime! AND THE PRINCIPLE of it! But not because of his race. And not because of the fact that he is a Muslim. As I've stated in a previous post somewhere in this thread...this precedent could mean we'll have to pander to other frivolous religious demands! Gee...imagine that! A criminal complaining because of the bloody bacon, AND his frivolous complaint being entertained at the price of $2000.... when a good portion of our children don't even have anything to eat for breakfast! That money could easily go to a children's breakfast program! This is giving me a high blood pressure, Kuzzadd!
  9. Amen to that.
  10. Frankly, I suspect that those who purport to speak for the "rights" of minorities or immigrants by making all these ridiculous demands are not speaking for the people (immigrants). Most of these are coming from Communist or Socialist-leaning acitivists. Or from politicians who try to groom their image by declaring to be the champions for such-and-such! These are the ones who plant the seeds of discontent....to their own advantage, of course! I would bet that in reality - majority of immigrants couldn't care less about wearing their burkas or washing their feet! They just want to be treated like everybody else!
  11. I think news like this should become high-profiled. It's these little things that escape the spotlights that I'm sure truly reflect the reality of what's going on.

  13. He is a psychopath! "A psychopath can have high verbal intelligence, but they typically lack "emotional intelligence". They can be expert in manipulating others by playing to their emotions. There is a shallow quality to the emotional aspect of their stories (i.e., how they felt, why they felt that way, or how others may have felt and why). The lack of emotional intelligence is the first good sign you may be dealing with a psychopath. A history of criminal behavior in which they do not seem to learn from their experience, but merely think about ways to not get caught is the second best sign." And he knows how to charm!
  14. All the more embarrassing was when Liberal Martin decided to use it for his politicking and had the audacity to scold the USA about it!
  15. Oh good come back, Buffy. Of course, what else can you say after you've worn your heart on your sleeve. I suppose you're one of those who belong to "Bush-Is-The-Terrorist" crowd! I'm sure one of these days you'd be demanding that they seek the mass grave at the ranch in Texas! Wake up and smell the blood! Of course you'll have to work out where that smell is coming from.
  16. Ouch! A good thing I didn't say anything about the perverted rape that goes on in prison....otherwise you'd be implying I do those kinda things. I've suspected you've been hovering around in your own dream world....but it never, ever, occurred to me just how far off you are from solid ground. An article in the paper long time ago had talked about some of this "retaliatory" practices by some kitchen staff in some kitchens. They were writing about restaurants for the general public. What are the chances this wouldn't be possible in the jailhouse? And I bet spit won't be the only thing he'd get if authorities follow the suggestion of one of the officers...that everyone shouldn't be getting bacon anymore!
  17. What Buffycat and Ghostshack seem to fail to recognize is that this man jumped at the opportunity to come to the "Lion's Den" - an opportunity handed to him by Columbia on a silver platter - for a reason more sinister than what some of you realize. You oooohhhed and aaaahhhhed over how well he carried himself, and oh how polished he is....and oh how nice that he seems to have a sense of humor....and oh yes, he knows how to handle the question - especially hardline questions - ....<gush>..... Well, he didn't come here to satisfy your curiousity, you can be sure on that! He didn't express his wish to come and visit Ground Zero just so he could pay his "respect." He is selling you something. And by the way Buffy and Ghost are reacting, I'd say this man's visit to the USA is a success. This Dinejad (or whatever his name is) was able to plant more seeds of distrust or skepticism to our own government leaders. How many Buffy are there who are now spreading this distrust and skepticism for our own leaders, and at the same time gushing over the positive image of this monster? He was able to add more fuel to the fires of division among us! You remember the saying? "United we stand, divided we fall?" Don't pooh-pooh the truth in that statement. That's how we're going to fall.
  18. Of course....what is there for you to say?
  19. Did they put earthworms on that Muslim's plate? Hah! If I were that Muslim, boy...I'd be leery now about the food they give me. I'd be betting there'll be a multitude of spit on it!
  20. What is so unbelievably outlandish about that??? You, yourself found it outlandish! And may I remind you... This man is an inmate in prison! He is there for doing crime! Drat, he eats better than a lot of our children....some children couldn't even afford the luxury of having any breakfast! Therefore it is a big deal just for the reason I just gave.....plus that the government had to shell out $2000 for his frivolous complaint! Expenses of frivolous complaints...if we're going to entertain them.....should be shouldered by the complainee! As an aside... Frankly speaking, the way some of you are carrying the torch for this man makes it seem like you all have wet dreams about him! Tell me you guys are not some of those we watch on tabloid shows, who are into romantic relationships with those on death rows!
  21. Because this Muslim had chosen to cause a stink over nothing, that's what it is!
  22. Why, do you think he'd be dumb enough to come unprepared for the kinds of questions that will be thrown at him? Do you think he has no clue as to what kinds of questions he'll get? That he has no idea he is viewed as a monster? What do you think, that he'd prove them right? Spout out all the threats and death-to-all-infidels in the face of the crowd? Admit to being a cruel, despotic dictator? Duh. Uh...I seem to understand now why you are so awed by him. You were expecting to see an irrational, lunatic, raving and all! I don't think anyone with any brains would think that he is a stupid man - on the contrary! And speaking of "fooling themselves".....hrrrmmmm. On second thought, I better not say any more.
  23. Oh Mike Duffy brought this up today and showed an aerial view of the mansion....saying that PQ is not the "little people's" party it wants to project. My gosh, it looks like an aristocrat's or a royalty's chateau! Apparently Marois is threatening to sue the Gazette. This should be interesting.
  24. I'm with you on that one, 100%!
