May and Dion will both funnel billions to the big Suzuki and Company Corporation!
-
When they were asked to say good things about the person to their left, I would say that ONLY HARPER really delivered that request! Dion, Layton, Diuceppe and May started off by saying something good.....but not one of these sorry lot could resist the temptation to add something negative! They all said the required "you're nice and good BUT..." Only Harper showed how he could easily rise above that. He showed by example what the others lack class-wise.
-
When the opposition, especially Dion and May accused Harper of playing the partisan card everytime they don't agree with him, such as Dion said Harper refer to him as a liberal, I think it was a golden opportunity that Harper let slipped. Harper could've shown the double-standard and hypocrisy of both Dion and May....as both have been freely and liberally calling and referring to Harper as a "right-wing" and his "right-wing agenda." This has been going on for months! These two appeared to me like rotten children who call people names and yet when somebody retaliates and calls them names, they whine and sputter in outrage!

I found the moderator of that show too soft on those who behaved in an undisciplined manner. He warned right from the onset that he will be cutting off the microphone of those who persists. Dion was rebuked twice, and yet allowed to finish what he was saying. How can Harper give rebuttals to each accusations of each and eavry opponent in just 45 seconds? Harper, in my view did very well under the circumstances. At one point all four of them were all talking at the same time and they all looked like 4 unruly children in a classroom. A journalist had commented that Harper took the "fatherly" stance. That is very positive.

Invited? She muscled her way in. Democracy? How is democracy served when her main purpose to be there is solely to stop Harper and to subtly fight in Dion's corner! I don't think she contributed anything in that debate at all except waste valuable time. She is crass. What's with all that pointing and wagging the finger at an opponent? That is very impolite to say the least.
-
And I think you need to look at what's credible or not. What's downright sleazy opportunism (for lack of a better word) for the shameless mad scramble of a drowning party and just. Dion's call for Harper to be "expelled" is quite pathetic. His sense of judgement is quite clouded. At a time when the economy is facing such uncertainty, the Liberals me-first mentality comes to the fore. They'd rather waste time with this plagiarism that was committed by a speechwriter 6 years ago than concentrate on what's crucial and frightening to us all NOW! At least give credit to the NDP for taking the high road on this (at least that's what the NDP lady named Saab was trying to do on CPAC. She tried to bring the debate back to the present). What? Not someone else's work? Just because the name consists of only two words, that isn't work? Tell that to the poor businesswoman who came up with that name for her company. Well Elizabeth May says the Liberals Green Shift was COPIED FROM THE GREEN PARTY'S Green Plan! That's another one that I just remembered! The Liberals have been quite prolific with their infringement and copyings these last few months, haven't they? And the issue of this plagiarism has been settled. The culprit explained, apologised and resigned.

What do they mean by "Decisive Action?"
betsy replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So you've based your opinion on some media reports. So far all is quiet again. If there is truly some legs to this so-called food safety mishandling, don't you think the oppositions, most especially the Liberals who are so desperate these days that all they do is fish for muck to save their neck, don't you think they won't be latching on to this? Face it. This is nothing more than just another desperate action by the Liberals. That's the only decisive action they're good at - digging up dirt ! Years of experience, my friend. -
Btw, the ad of the Liberals that asks...."DO YOU WANT MORE OF THIS?" Somehow it strongly reminds me of the Obama ad. If I'm not mistaken the Obama ad asks, "DO YOU WANT MORE OF THE SAME?"
-
Conservative strategist Tim Powers on MDuffy today mentioned that years back Bob Rae was involved in some plagiarism???? He didn't elaborate, but Liberal strategist Sheila Copps counter-acted by saying "Oh that's different!" So from Sheila Copps reaction, there's some grain of truth into what Tim Powers alleged about Bob Rae. Anyone know about that?
-
The Liberal guy responsible for stealing the name "Green Shift," I wonder if he was fired? Or was he asked to resign?
-
Didn't Obama call McCain to talk about the Wall Street bail-out? Maybe Layton is still on copy-cat mode?
-
I guess I better read that how-to-tape manual and learn it fast. Oh boy, the network is cruel to us junkies!
-
And why do you think that's exactly what's happening? We've just had how many long years of Liberal government? 12 years? What happened in that 12 years? How much money did we squander? What about corruption and scandals after scandals - scandals not on petty issues mind you. All the way from Chretien's golf balls and his hotels to the Sponsorship scandal. What about broken promises? Harper had a good two years considering it's only a minority government at that. As far as leadership goes, there's no question that Harper knows how to handle his pesky opposition, to the point of getting the Liberals to heel in how many votes in Parliament? 43 three times, if I'm not mistaken. That alone is a feat in itself! So why is this country going to be in trouble with Harper on the helm? If the Liberals had supported and voted 43 policies of Harper.....Harper must be on the right track, isn't he? He is doing a good job as a leader. After all, the official watch dog agreed with him!

I was going to tune in to the Palin-Biden debate, but now I'm really eager to see our own debate. Anyone knows if there's a replay telecast of the US debate?
-
It looks like the Liberals got a boost and the Cons came down a bit. But what about the other polls also done by Nanos as shown in that link you've provided? I'm particularly referring to the polls on the party moslt likely to deliver the promise and about feeling of security. Harper is way ahead on those. Lately, Layton had been focusing too much on Harper, which might have been a big mistake. Although possible, it is quite unlikely for Layton to become the Prime Minister. If I were Layton at this point, I'd concentrate on Dion. Anyway the real objective of Layton is to become the official opposition.

Have a closer look at Harper the man
betsy replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Politics had already been taken down to that low level long ago. What do you think about the way the Liberals demonized Harper since way back? Who started dishing out personal attacks? Actually the demonization of Harper was even more vicious compared to what we see from the Conservative ads. Besides, personal attacks are not limited to tv ads alone you know. -
Have a closer look at Harper the man

What's wrong about dishing out the same medicine? Years back, the Liberals had a real field day slugging Harper and painting him into some monster. Did I hear him whine? Did anyone say the Liberals are mean-spirited character assasinators? Talk about double-standard. Instead of moaning and whining to the press, "he accuse me to cheer the recession...etc..," (which is nothing compared to the way they demonized Harper)....well, learn to take it like a man! As the saying go, if you can't take the heat, then scram out of the kitchen. -
Key words: GREAT MAN. But in Dion's case, he projects a weak image. Even right from the start. Not standing up to the Conservatives on several policies only enhanced his weakness. And now women are doing his battles for him. I agree. With just Krieber campaigning for him I guess it's understandable. But with Elizabeth May in the debate? It's just like a fuming big sister to the rescue! Hey, all I'm saying is that it makes him look a whole lot weaker. But then, that's just how I percieve it. That's just my opinion.

I don't know MDuffy that well enough to know what his claim to fame is. I refer to MDuffy simply because that's the title of his show (or he is the host of that show)....and I am citing my source! Usually it is not his opinion that I am citing at, but the opinions of his guests. If you hadn't noticed, I try as much as possible to cite my sources to back up a claim. Aren't we supposed to do that? Mind you my curiosity is piqued as to what else MDuffy had been up to since the mere mention of his name seems to rattle you so. Btw, thanks for the condescending and pretentious lecture. Are you the Bob Kerr of Maple Leaf Forum? I don't pretend to know everything. I have my sources and will happily reveal them, even if they do exceed normal weight or cast their eyes askew before making their point. Trust me. I have a very strong opinion of my own but I don't pretend that I know everything AND those that don't acknowledge their sources, we all know are plagiarists. Their knowledge doesn't spring from some mystical source. Don't worry about me, August1991. I may be a FILIPINA immigrant-turned CANADIAN, but rest assure I am not cowed from speaking my own mind. Btw, how do you form your political opinion? Are you privvy with politicians? Are you in the political field? Or are you just brilliant?
-
My point in this topic is not the fact that Janine Krieber buys her husband's underwear. August, my personal opinion of this is how weak the overall image of Dion is. Understandbly, being his wife, she helps him in his campaign. The inclusion of Elizabeth May in the debate (only because of the use of the gender card which of course generated some public outcry) - even though it is known how this two had made a deal, and with May's very vocal endorsement of Dion and her very vocal anti-Harper stance - gives the perception that the two will be allies in the debate. From my point of view, May will be out there to help Dion do his battle. Dion is starting to look like he very badly needs the help of these women - or is it the other way around? These women thinks Dion needs them badly to help him. If that's the case, then what does that tells us of Dion?
-
We can all look back at history....but you're talking what? 20 years? As far as I can see Harper is a centrist. Didn't some conservatives even think he'd shown some liberal traits with his spendings? My point: reform, alliance....so that's where it all began. But it's a far cry from that now. Btw, I supported the Reform. I'd say this party has evolved! It is central-right.
-
Dion is saying we are on the brink of deficit. So where is the money coming from? Never mind the Conservative history. Look at the history of the Liberal Party. It is most recent and Dion is closely tied to that Liberal Party. According to Layton, the Liberals never did really deliver their promise of child care spaces, did they? And according to Ignatieff, the Liberals never did get the work done on gas emissions, did they?
-
A tax-grab by a reckless leader who promises billions of spendings in a time when there's economic uncertainty is not by any means having "a heart full of compassion." It is downright callous.
-
Why, do you vote because of the name?

First let's start with the Missus. MRS DION IS A MIGHTY BAD HELP By Earl McRae Janine Krieber, the academic wife of Liberal Leader Stephane Dion, is probably getting a bad rap in media circles over a comment that's been dragged out in this campaign from an interview she gave a magazine last year that made her husband seem like a "yes dear, anything you say, dear" doofus. Krieber, who the media have reported is under muzzle orders from the party brass (although her husband recently denied it) has not agreed to any extensive one-on-one interviews and, says the brass, will not do so until sometime after the Oct. 4 leaders debate; although what makes that time period so different for Janine Krieber Unplugged beats me. Krieber, however, has recently begun a series of talks, sans her husband, before various groups across the country. If Krieber's mouth is, indeed, under media Ziploc edict, you can understand why in a campaign where her husband is not only battling Stephen Harper, but the image Dion has among many Canadians as a weak, watery, dreamy, marshmallow head. The party heirarchy must be terrified that her magazine comment could be an example of similar things she's capable of unleashing about her husband in Election 2008. In the magazine interview, Boss Krieber said that, at home, she, not her spouse, does all the book-keeping, income taxes, and she picks out and buys all his clothes, and that includes his underwear. 'YES, DEAR' SYNDROME In defending his wife against the muzzle charges, Stephane Dion told reporters this week: "Nobody muzzles Janine Krieber, that's why I love her." He must love her even more now after her speech the other day at the University of Saskatchewan in which, defending her husband, she attacked the media for referring to her husband as "the professor" and saying -- her words -- he's "disconnected from reality" and "impossible to understand" and "lives in an ivory tower." Nice going, Big Boss Woman. By introducing the doofus allegations to knock them down, you mightily raised them up again. Stand by for further developments. I'm Earl McRae and I approved this column. http://www.ottawasun.com/News/Columnists/M...886066-sun.html And then, there's Elizabeth. I remember vividly that of all candidates, only Dion supported May - and strongly agreed - that Elizabeth May should be included in the debate. So on debate night, Elizabeth and Stephane, together, will face and do battle with the big bad Harper.
