Expert says Cadman tape not altered: court record
betsy replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Eh? Explain please. -
I know what you mean. Twenty years ago when I came to this country, I was amazed that politicians who were caught or suspected of doing something improper voluntarily resign from office. As the years go by it has changed. The bold lies and corruptions became too brazen. When they're caught red-handed, they fight tooth and nail hanging on to power. It's like back in my old country.

Expert says Cadman tape not altered: court record
betsy replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well if there is reason for him to believe that he's been defamed, why shouldn't he take them to court? The Liberals had posted some materials in their website, if I'm not mistaken? Why shouldn't they be held liable if they did say something defamatory? Being a financially broked political party is not a license...nor is it another entitlement to freely defame anyone without consequence. Let the court decide if they are guilty or not. If the Liberal Party is found guilty and ended up being bankrupt .....they've only themselves to blame. -
And here's an excerpt from your link: "How Canada avoids U.S. problems Our mortgage insurance provides more protection on high-risk loans Apr 30, 2007 04:30 AM Paul Brent The meltdown of the U.S. subprime mortgage market has many Canadians wondering if the carnage will make its way north. While U.S. mortgage defaults continue to soar and subprime lenders succumb to years worth of dubious loans, Canada's mortgage market appears immune to the fallout. It appears Canadian conservativism has insulated us from the excesses of our American cousins. "The (mortgage) market here is much healthier, the lenders are more prudent in terms of their approval process and Canadians are just more conservative in terms of their products," said Jim Murphy, president of the Canadian Association of Accredited Mortgage Professionals." It says in your link that it is conservatism that has insulated us. Therefore, it's only sensible we continue with that trait....and the Conservatives are the only ones to do it! The lefties will drive us to our knees.

Look, English is my second language and yet I grasp the meaning of what the question was trying to ask. Granted that the question was poorly worded, Dion should've taken matters into his own hands. If I were in Dion's situation I would repeat the question the way I understood it AND ANSWER the question THE WAY I UNDERSTOOD IT! I'll answer like: "If you mean what would I do differently if I were Prime Minister...well, I would do this and that...." That's what I mean. He should be quick on his feet to take charge!

To suggest that no one could possibly plan for the protection of the economy is ridiculous! There are no sure guarantees, but yes plans are not only very much possible, in fact, they are crucial! This was what the Cons did several months ago. Flaherty to tighten bank regulation Theophilos Argitis and David Scanlan, Bloomberg Published: Thursday, April 24, 2008 Canada will tighten securities regulation to force more disclosure by financial institutions about their investments after record writedowns by the country's biggest banks, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said. The measures, which Flaherty said he'll discuss with bank executives on April 28, may be implemented as soon as this year and will include plans for a single, nationwide securities regulator. The changes will force banks to be more transparent about their holdings and improve risk management, Flaherty said in an interview yesterday in New York. "I genuinely do plan to discuss with the bank CEOs on Monday the development of our plan to tighten regulation," said Flaherty. "This is a time where it is going to be necessary to have more stringent regulation http://www.financialpost.com/most_popular/....html?id=468779 You don't wait for the crisis to happen before you act! In the case of Dion....according to him we are already in crisis, and yet he cannot even say anything with substance about it! Sound bites are not good enough at this time!

He stated his opinion. Which tantamounts to what he thinks/believes. That it's been altered. -

I think the hearing is still going on, right? -
You think that former Liberal MP who jumped to the Green will have the chance to become leader? If he wins, that is.
-
Well at least you're having fun!
-
The media? Hmm...for them to try to get Harper re-elected (which must've been pure agony for them to do), that's really saying a lot about Dion.
-
And as I said, I had no problem grasping the meaning of the question. Are you suggesting Dion is a little bit s-l-o-w?
-
Gee, how many clarifications does he needs? His own staff gave him clarification! Well in one swoop, you just negated your talk about Harper having no guts! And they did criticize Dion for it! Even the media did! I've heard callers to CPAC, Goldhawk and Talk Ottawa!
-
Okay, we are talking about the Dion interview. The question that you asked is: " if you were made Prime Minister right now, what would you have done 6 months ago." Keng333, your question is as you say, illogical. No wonder I couldn't believe a professional journalist would ask such a befuddled question - and at a taped interview at that! It's not the same question that was asked. Here is the actual question of the interview which I've lifted up from the link: “If you were prime minister now, what would you have done about the economy and this crisis that Mr. Harper hasn't done?” There is nothing wrong with this question.
-
Now that you mentioned it - not only was the question repeated two or three times, but his own staff came to clarify it for him! He had clarification from his own staff. I am more inclined to conclude the following: Dion does not have a plan prepared and Dion also does not understand the language spoken by majority of the population.
-
The way the question was worded may've been faulty....but obviously I still managed to grasp what you're really asking me to answer! Wrongly put or not - it is still perfectly understandable. Hence I've responded to this question somewhere on this thread: I am not an economist! Your private message asking me this same question which I've already answered suggests that obviously, my response was not the kind of answer you wanted to hear. C'mon, give it up. Stop torturing yourself. As I've innocently demonstrated by example, Dion understood the question.

As the oppositions put it, the economy is getting worse. They say people are scared of losing jobs and homes. They all but scream the sky's falling!!! You think Dion or Layton will be brave enough to switch the channel back to the Cadman affair again? Let them try. We'll see who gets labeled as "insensitive." -

Harper obviously believed it was altered. They can say that he was wrong. -
Dear Keng333, I just got your pm. I prefer to answer it on this board for I'm not really into private discussions. What is it about this question? First of all I did not actually follow this whole thread so I don't really understand how or why this question came about. You want me to say what I would've done 6 months ago if I were the Prime Minister today. Well what the heck do I know? As I told you before, I am not an economist. I don't know the complex issue about economy. I assume that this has something to do with the economy? And second, I am not in politics. Since you've been persistent about this question....explain why you're asking this? What exactly is your point?
-
Indeed. It does look like she only used the Green Party for her own interest. There are rumours that she'll be given a position by Dion if she doesn't win Central Nova. I feel sorry for the true Green supporters held hostage by their own supposed leader.

You are not selling your values.....unless your values does not put the welfare of our economy and the future of our children above a political party. Without a doubt, yes. Dion is not a leader at all. Have you noticed how the Liberal Party had eased his leadership out of the campaign picture? They have spinned it so that now, they're promoting a "team." They're making it so that a team is supposed to be better at running the country. They don't even have a real team! Their so-called team is embroiled in vicious in-fighting. Martin's new book exposed just that. How they can campaign and say they are a team is the height of all bald-face lies. Hah! Too many cooks in the kitchen by cooks who don't even agree! Knives are put to good use in the Liberal Team's kitchen I'm not going into a tit-for-tat with Conservative's income trust and Liberal's GST for starters. We're not naive are we? Which politician did not break a promise? Btw, did you know that Dion is already saying that he might have to break the promise of childcare spaces and other billion dollar perks he'd been doling out these past few weeks. And he's not even elected yet! But mind you, it's still full-steam ahead for his Carbon Tax Plan. I wonder if he'll break his promise about giving some of that money back. Who is the best man to lead us through this time of uncertainty. That's the question we all have a grave responsibility to answer to the best of our ability. You're complaining now???? Boy, wait til you get Dion or Layton. Plus simultaneous with what's happening to the global economy. You haven't seen nothing yet. He may've changed his minds a gazillion times but all I see is the fact that our banks are not failing like the USA, our economy is the strongest economy in the G8, and in September we've created about 100,000 new jobs. Hard facts that translate into confidence and security. He is very capable. And most importantly, he is proven. I am un-wavering in my support for Harper. May I ask you: Are you voting for Dion? If yes, please explain why. -
Holy mackerel! You're beginning to talk like Dion! Nobody said it's contagious....

If Harper had not talked about it, how did you come to that conclusion? Explain yourself.
