FYI, the center is already staked, claimed and occupied by the Conservatives! All you need to do is listen to the media report and you will know. That's what they've been saying. Harper had successfully shoved the LIberals (thanks to Dion) to the left, along with the NDP! And the NDP is boldly claiming the right to represent the Left....and by the looks of it, they might become the official opposition. As of the poll on CTV today, the Conservatives are at 40% with the Liberals and NDP tied at 21%. According to the pollster, the Liberals and the NDP actually both went down. But the bad news for the Liberal is that they're bleeding to the Conservatives AND the NDP.

What do they mean by "Decisive Action?"
betsy replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Of course, as usual Dion and Layton had placed themseves in a corner again. Quickly jumping in with their mouthy self-righteous demands for Harper to get rid of Ritz, I guess they can't do anything else but force the resignation of their own erring MPs. Imagine how it was for these two opposition leaders when the journalist panel agreed with Harper's decision. Furthermore, one of the journalists talked of the danger of firing a minister over stupid petty mistakes! Ouch. Layton was asked today how he hoped to win over Harper since he already lost a number of MPs. Somebody should've taught Dion and Layton to "look before you leap." That's one of the top qualities of a true leader. -

It's already been let go! The only time Ritz is being mentioned at all lately is when the pundits ponder in awe about how all these gaffes seem to have just bounced off Harper. What more, with the journatlist panels from the CBC - imagine that, the CBC of all networks - agreeing that Harper did the right thing in not firing Ritz only increased the leadership score and credibility of Harper! I seriously think that with all the obvious dirt-digging all the way back from the Cadman affair to the Elections Canada fiasco etc..., all those did was innoculate Harper. People are so tired of the cheap tricks that came out one after the other from the oppositions that now, they're just like the boy who cried wolf! -

And yet the title of that article is: "Harper pressed to fire Ritz for listeriosis jokes" It would've been a different story if he was being pressed to fire Ritz for something serious like mis-management or negligence, but even that statement of Michele Demers did not really say anything specific. Disappointed how? And isn't it odd that if Ritz had "repeatedly disappointed" scientists, why only bring it up now? If it's repeatedly happening - this so-called disappointing of scientists- it means it's been going on for quite some time. She picked quite a good timing for this revelation, didn't she? If Ms Demers had seen or known any serious mis-management on Ritz' part that could be detrimental to the health of Canadians, isn't she being negligent as well for keeping a lid on it all this time? What took her so long to come forward? What, if the listeriosis joke didn't happen, she'll just keep mum about it? I also notice that no one else in that article cited any other reasons other than that insensitive joke - a joke that was said in what was supposed to be a private meeting. -
Liberals give the boot to another racist candidate
betsy replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It's worse, actually! What was she saying? That the KKK is active in BC? All non-whites beware because you're all in danger of getting lynched and hanged? Not only was she clearly stoking the fires of hate and distrust towards white folks, but she was being divisive! US AGAINST THEM! That's how I understood Hedy Fry! -
After all is said and done, opposition strategists still keep reiterating that "Harper did not take any decisive action" regarding the Ritz fiasco. Are they not listening? Are they sleeping? Or worse, they don't even know what they're bleating about? Harper did deliver a very decisive action and it went over their heads! Harper had made a clear decision when he decided that Ritz's gaffe does not warrant his removal from office, and he explained why. Ritz was not fired or forced to resign. That was Harper's decisive action! The oppositions may not agree with his decision but that does not mean Harper did not take any decisive action. It only means that the opposition does not agree with Harper's decision. And with quite a resounding decisiveness at that, may I add. Even amidst some public outrage that also showed one victim's son speaking out against Ritz. Unlike somebody we know who anxiously offered the heads of his MPs on a silver platter just to soothe ruffled feathers, this Prime Minister really sticks to what he thinks is right. And the media/journalists panel at a CBC show all agreed with Harper that Ritz should not be fired or be forced to resign for his stupid comment. One journalist even went as far as explaining the danger of firing people just for stupid comments, since everybody makes a mistake every now and then.

Liberals give the boot to another racist candidate
betsy replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dion tried to downplay it at a rally yesterday morning when one reporter challenged him when he (Dion) demanded Richardson be forced to resign. The reporter asked him about his double standard - how come he doesn't force this Lberal MP to resign. Dion made a lame excuse that she is dealing with the Jewish Congress and that he (Dion) has great respect for the Jewish Congress. JCTV journalist Fife covering the rally said that a member of the Jewish Congress already asked for the resignation of this MP. -
It's a long shot. Is there anyone from here who ever got called? Besides I don't think they'd call the same people everytime. Anyway one thing sure, the BC Nanos numbers are right. Today, the CTV journalist travelling with the Liberals to BC said that Dion is having a hard time forming a large rally, unlike Harper and Layton. Dion has now resorted to doing his campaigning in university campus because the students will gladly attend his campaign instead of sitting in class.

Another firestorm for Harper to put out
betsy replied to JaysFan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
First of all, I've already explained the emotions that come into play. Some of you may think it's not the "high road"...or that it may put our troops in greater danger.....some see it from another angle. Second, it is clear that the caption is not referring to Canadian/American citizens. It is referring to jihadists. Jihad is based on religion, so that explains the religion-based slur. But of course, it's not an accurate slur. In fact the whole quote is meaningless because Muslims are not heathens. This is just a marketing ploy of an arms dealer. "Go kill the enemy! And please use our knives!" -
They gave the excuse they'll use for not delivering on the promises. The economy!

Opposition leaders sorely lack tact and diplomacy
betsy posted a topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dion could not keep from using and dissing Bush to win votes. And Layton said he already wrote to Obama about re-negotiating Nafta. When asked what if McCain wins, Layton replied: "I assume it will be challenging." Although both would undoubtedly wish the Democrats win the election, these two PM-wanna-be, however only show how sorely they lack the tact and diplomacy of a true leader. If either one these two will end up being the Prime Minister, and if the Republicans happen to win the US election....we're off to a rocky start relationship-wise with our nextdoor neighbor. Why would they opt to sour the relationship even before it begins? Harper, on the other hand, continue to display responsible response. When asked to comment about the US government intervention to Wall Street, if he thinks it is good policy for the US government to have taxpayers pay for the crisis, Harper refrained to make any comment, explaining that the US is in the midst of a federal election and he deemed it inappropriate for him to make any comment. -
The Conservatives' Unethical Environmental Plan
betsy replied to shelphs's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
And another woman called GoldHawk to say that the Liberals and Green plans will pay for the beaurocrats that will handle all these plans....and that whatever revenue left to actually put into research will be of insignificant amount. I agree. And when Liberal MP McCallum bragged about having the approval of Suzuki, Al Gore and other environmentalist groups....Conservative MP Poillievre pointed out that those are the same people whom the Liberals will be doling out the money to. I tend to believe that. These groups know where their bread is buttered. Since you're talking of ethics, well there is something grossly unethical about being in bed with special interest groups just so to ensure political support. -

At least this company who's fitting our troops is openly vocal to where it stands....I can assume chances are, this is one arms dealer who would not be dealing with the Taliban. I'm glad they got the contract! The company should come out with aggressive press releases and defend its right to express its freedom and support for our troops fighting and dying in Afghanistan. I say turn the tables on those who readily come to the defense of the enemies, those who quell our freedom to express ourselves with accusations of "racism" and "bigotry" for just about anything. Insulting someone who's sworn to die killing you is one of the most natural expression. In this case, the clear reference to "JIHAD" clearly says John Wayne was talking to jihadists! If the company handles this well, this could be good for Harper - who had always consistently shown his firm support to our troops! -

betsy replied to JaysFan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
What I'm outraged about is the way the enemies are readily defended from getting insulted. At least that's how I see it if people will make a big issue out of this. That this would even become an issue is pathetic. This company is an arms dealer, for crying out loud! He is fitting our own soldiers in this war! So this company is showing its support for the troops - rooting for the troops, giving dark humor in an indeed dark times for our troops! This company should not be shamed into bowing down....in fact shame should be cast the other way around! Freedom is what it's all about! This company is expressing its own message! I see nothing wrong in insulting and hurling curses at the enemies in war. I see nothing wrong in wishing all the ills on the enemies in times of war. For some folks, they feel it's being one with our troops since they can't be there physically to do battle alongside them. I'm all for our troops! -

betsy replied to JaysFan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
"Jihad? I'll give you a jihad you miserable, rag-headed, heathen bastard!" said a caption posted over a photograph of a rifle-toting John Wayne." Is this what's causing the outrage? Well first of all, it's a caricature depicting a rifle-toting John Wayne. So it's meant to poke fun. Second, the way I take it John Wayne was referring to the enemy when he pointed out to JIHAD. Aren't suicide bombers and the Taliban doing their jihad against our troops? John Wayne called the enemies some colorful names. So? What's unusual about that? The caricature is meant to make fun at the expense of the enemies. What's wrong with that? -
This was published in the newsletter of the St Catharines Federal Liberal Association. This was made public! How do materials get published? Don't they get read and edited before getting printed? Columnists on the CBC had agreed that Ritz does not deserved to be fired for his gaffe, which the columnists had labelled "dark humor." Yes it was an insensitive joke but it was done within a small group, knowing that it was a private meeting. He is guilty of being stupid. The only reason it became public was because somebody leaked it out. The Liberal joke of assasinating Harper and his wife was deliberately made public when they printed and circulated it through that newsletter! There's nothing accidental about that! If this were a murder trial, I'd say these Liberals are guilty of the first degree. They have the motive, the intention and the time to make the planning.

Liberals make jokes about murdering Stephen and Laureen Harper Wednesday, July 09, 2008 at 08:54 AM Comments: 65Previous Post Next Post In what has to be one of the most tasteless displays from the Liberal Party, this "joke" appearing in the official newsletter of the St Catharines Federal Liberal Association makes light of the deliberate murder of Stephen Harper and his wife, as discussed by schoolchildren. http://stevejanke.com/archives/268145.php

Dion is the one saying we're going broke. And at the same time, Dion is promising billions of spending. Either he's going to be the most reckless PM of all time....or he is a liar. Either way, he definitely cannot be trusted!
-
I guess that depends on your perception of "substance." In my view, pointing out the reckless negligence of Dion with his apparent stubborn and wilfull determination to take our country on the road straight to bankruptcy is of paramount substance. The Liberals are showing a maniacal obsession to obtaining power. It will be a very costly mistake - one that we may never, ever recover from! Knowing what Dion claims he knows (that our country is on the brink), and yet still make all these grandiose spending spree, not to mention the billions wasted in past boondagles, indeed only makes it so ironic that the tag CATASTROPHIC is so aptly used. Well how would I know your feelings will be hurt over something like this? I had stated my reasons as to why. I defended my positions. Heck, by all means kindly put me on ignore if it will make you feel so much better. This is a forum. Sometimes the way arguments are presented will not be to everyone's liking. I hope nobody demand that I apologise for that.
-
But you see, here's the difference between the two: Harper is saying we are not in trouble financially. Dion is saying we are. So, inspite of knowing we are teetering on the brink of being broke, as he continuously claims....why this grandiose splurge then? He believes that we are going broke, and yet he makes plans to spend hundreds of billions! Have you looked at the figures??? This is like someone who smells and knows gas is leaking all over the place but proceeds to light the fire anyway! Not only will he turn Canada into a have-not and tax us to the gills (at a time when we are going to face economic uncertainty).....but he'll also saddle our future generations with this debt (at a time when they'd most probably need to have cash to adjust to climate change)! This would be wilfull, reckless negligent on his part. Those who are toying with the idea of putting Dion into power, this is something you really should think about. Which is your priority? The party or your country?
-
Holy smoke! 100 billion just for the Green Shift alone (according to Jeff Norquay on MDuffy)! Then I read on the stream that Dion also promise 70 billion for infrastructures (in 10 years)! Well that's just two policies. What about the cost for the others? How much for the universal child care? How much for the drug plan? The Education grant? The Fight on crime? Gun Registry? Social Programs? Child Poverty? Rebuilding Afghanistan? So our future generation may still face the same problem, environment-wise....and they'll be flat broke to boot! Preeoreetees, really!
-
I had seen the video tape of the incident with Cannon's aide. She did not say anything that's really offensive. Apparently she's had someone who came in drunk. It is understandable that she does not feel secure talking to someone who's drunk...especially when they are confrontational. She has a right to think of her own safety! All she did was explain, after she was asked by the man she was talking to.

Native Leaders Speak Out Against Racist Candidates Published September 12, 2008 Politics Tags: Canada, election, First Nations, Indians, Natives, Politics, Racism "Read the post below this and you’ll see well enough that I’m angry. I’m not alone in being angry. As I said in a previous post, I’ve been speaking and corresponding with native leaders on the number of anti-native candidates in this election. Those candidates include Simon Bedard, who was running for the Liberals in the riding of Quebec. He talked about killing indians, 100, 125 … and was unrepentant. He was allowed to resign on his own terms yesterday. Another Liberal candidate, another bout of racism. This one, Ricardo Lopez, who said that natives should be rounded up and sent east. Sound familiar? He too, allowed to peacefully resign on his own terms today. No firings, no apologies, no promises to do things different. The election goes on and no one notices." http://rjjago.wordpress.com/2008/09/12/nat...ist-candidates/ Today Liberal candidate Brent Fullard apologized for comparing Prime Minister Stephen Harper to Hitler in a mass emailing titled Heil mein Harper. It appears not everyone is as cool with it as Liberal Party cheerleader Elizabeth May and Liberal leader Stephane Dion: B'nai Brith Canada has characterized as "irresponsible" the reported comparisons of Prime Minister Stephen Harper to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler by Liberal candidate Brent Fullard , who is running in the Ontario riding of Whitby-Oshawa. The Jewish human rights organization has called on Liberal leader Stéphane Dion to refuse to confirm this candidate's nomination at a meeting scheduled for later today, unless Fullard apologizes for his offensive remarks. http://dustmybroom.com/content/view/5433/999999/

Mike Duffy announced that it's not only the Conservatives who got MPs on the hot seat. He mused why there's not much being said about them. Well, MDuffy decided to list them. There's one for the NDP and the Green.....and 3 for the Liberals! Simon Bedard and Ricardo Lopez, both from Quebec (racist comments), and Brent Fullard from Ontario (can't remember for what).
-
Elizabeth May says she "agrees with the assessment" that says CANADIANS ARE STUPID! Duffy and Taber both replayed the video clip and both of them challenged May saying that it's clearly right there and May said it. May talked her way out of it...and that's it. Case closed.
