These So-Called "Contradictions" In The Bible.
betsy replied to betsy's topic in Religion & Politics
You misunderstood, Squid. I explained so many times, and I'll repeat it for you. THE BIBLE IS NOT MEANT TO BE A SCIENCE BOOK......... ..........HOWEVER, SCIENCE, JUST SO HAPPENS TO SUPPORT, OR REAFFIRM SOME STATEMENTS IN THE BIBLE! Which part of that is so difficult to understand? If one cannot understand such a simple statement - then, he's out of his league in this discussion. It would be like talking economy to a first grader! You're giving the Biblical reference to the bat (as a bird) as an evidence that somehow it's a contradiction or an error.....when in fact, it's you who's committed a grave error! An example was even given - in Florida, they called a gopher a "turtle." HERE, read this part which you must've missed! Should I make the font even much larger, you think? https://carm.org/bible-difficulties/genesis-deuteronomy/bat-bird When did Linneus create the classification system? Sometime in the 18th century! http://anthro.palomar.edu/animal/animal_1.htm Do you get now why ancient people referred to the bat as a bird? Do you need a much simpler explanation? Tell me, and I'll try to help you with this one. We could try with an even bigger font. -
The oft asked questions about the Bible, which this thread will answer: Is the God of the Bible, the Creator? Is the Bible, reliable? Can we trust the Bible? Is it truly God-inspired? How do you know it came from God? I had given the first argument (proof) - the Creator has intimate knowledge of His creation, along with evidences to support that claim. (Refer to posts #606 and 607) The second argument: Mathematical Probability (The Order of Creation) - (post #610) Here's the next: MATHEMATICAL PROBABILITY: THE CHRIST PROPHECY Everyone can make a prediction. To make a prediction is one thing. To have it precisely fulfilled, is quite another. Furthermore, the more details you give in your prediction, the less likely for it to be precised in its fulfillment. Science Speaks by Peter W. Each interval, same length? No, I can't agree to that. Besides, if we apply logic to all the CORROBORATING evidences presented in the other thread, "Why Trust The Bible," that God created the heavens and the earth.......can no longer be called an assumption. You're new to the board. Refer to post #610 for the recap of all evidences, and #612: You should also review this article: http://www.godandscience.org/apologetics/day-age.html -

Here is the answer. No contradiction! https://carm.org/bible-difficulties/genesis-deuteronomy/bat-bird In Florida, a gopher is a turtle - and you wonder why ancient people refer to the bat as a bird? Imposing a MODERN system on an ancient text - and then, imply that the ancient text is wrong - is an ignorant argument. http://www.batsnorthwest.org/bat_names.html The Hebrew word for bird is actually owph which means “fowl/winged creature.”1 The word owph simply means “to fly” or “has a wing.” So, the word includes birds, bats, and even flying insects. The alleged problem appears due to translation of owph as bird. Birds are included in the word owph, but owph is not limited to birds. https://answersingenesis.org/birds/bats-of-a-feather/ -

If archeologists and scholars says it is....and there's no counter, or any disagreement.....what more is there to prove? I say there are no contradictions at all. You can't say what's contradicting IF you can't tell something is given as a figure of speech or not. One thing we agree with: we can't take everything literally! Who ever said we should??? Certainly not me. You're bringing up a non-issue about taking things literally, James. We can't take everything literally in the Bible! I've been saying that all along - and I've even created a thread to show the numerous kinds of figures of speech found in the Bible! -
The guy who got blinded by Khadr was interviewed by Rosemary Barton. He called Trudeau a "Khadr groupie."

READ HIS STATEMENT! He didn't say, it's illegal.

Why Jesus is even brought up when we talk about natural reaction of people who are starving, is beyond me. It's not like as if a starving person wouldn't try to do anything to get something to eat. Get a grip. Be realistic. Just look at your response. Like I said...... The problem with bleedin' hearts - they try to equate their charmed lives with those that are barely surviving. Their priorities aren't quite the same as yours! I suppose........ stealing and robbing is more to your liking. After all, you've already got the justification. At least, give these poor folks major plus points for still trying to do the right thing in the face of their impoverished existence. We need not take away their livelihood in the name of politicking - we can call for humane laws that would protect people from all kinds of exploitation.
-
I don't think you have any idea at all what Jesus would say. Your post reveal that. Read again what I've stated above.....and study the Bible. If you're going to bring up something, at least you better get a grasp on it. Anyway, if you want to continue this line of argument - raising the Jesus card - create your own thread for it.
-
Bye Omni. You're going circular.
-
This thread is about the money given to Khadr. It's hard to move on when we reward terrorists with taxpayers money. Especially that amount. If Justin had chosen to reward him instead, through his Trudeau Foundation - maybe, we can move on.

He was 15 - and an unlawful combatant!

Where does it say that Guantanamo itself, is illegal? If Gitmo is illegal, it would've been closed long time ago. Even Obama - of all people - didn't close it asap. Read his statement: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2016/02/23/obama-release-plan-close-guantanamo-bay/80793530/ He didn't say, it's illegal.
-
Yours! READ your source! Where does it says that Guantanamo itself, is illegal? It talks about rendition, and some practices. The way you're trying to sell that opinion would be like saying, all prisons are illegal because some prison guards violate the rights of prisoners!

These So-Called "Contradictions" In The Bible.
betsy replied to betsy's topic in Religion & Politics
Do you claim that there are "no contradictions in the Bible"? Yes. Do you believe that the bible was written by man using God's Word (Devine Authorship)? Yes. I can't simply say yes or no .....since your question can have a different nuance to it. In Genesis, Chapter 1 (The Beginning), would it be fair to say that the days were listed in chronological order (the order by which these events took place)? "The Beginning," is an ambiguous declaration. I don't know what you mean exactly by "days," - God days? Human days 24/7? But yes, creation narrative - though not in full details - is written in chronological order. -

It's not disproven. That's the point. -
He's just spouting off ignorant opinion!
-
Am I supposed to believe that? Nice try. Bye.
-
Where does it says that Guantanamo is illegal? Cite a credible source.
-
Your opinion mean squat without anything credible to support it.

If that's the case, that website is giving disinformation. They're contradicting their own article. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military See the definition of an UNLAWFUL COMBATANT. Terrorists fall into that category. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unlawful_combatant

What the family did to ALL THEIR CHILDREN, was despicable! Read the article in the OP! You should ask Chretien why the heck he intervened for Omar's father when He (father) got captured committing terrorist act - and why the heck did the Khadr children not taken away from their parents! Chretien used his position and aided a monster, wouldn't you agree? So many Canadian couples lose their children for far less reason.
