But Harper is far right, does want to take away rights, would destroy Canada if we let him, and is stacking the courts. Yeah , Harper is sooo right-wing. He actually has the balls to say God-bless after a speech (right-wing?) He actually is not afraid to say He supports the TRADITIONAL law of marriage (right-wing?) He has credibillity on cutting taxes ($20 billion worth) and getting tough on crime (right-wing?) If being Right-Wing means all those things, then what the hell is left-wing? Yeah, Dion is sooo left-wing. He has no balls at all. He voted AGAINST Same-sex marriage in 2000, then voted for it in 2003, then against re-opening it in 2006. He would love to raise our taxes, first by scrapping plans to cut the GST by another percentage point- and going wild on raising income taxes. Dion would love to give a hug to every street thug in toronto, and give them money for pot and crack. God bless Canada- Stephen Harper, Campaign stop in Toronto.

Dion shows his true colors on CBC's 'The Hour'
SamStranger replied to SamStranger's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Is that the only quote you have a problem with? If so, I don't see the problem -- since he's trying to become PM, wouldn't you think he'd think he's who we need? If he doesn't think he's who we need, then why would he be running? To give us what we don't need? It wouldn't make any sense. that is not the only quote i have a problem with (he ran his mouth off about alot of things) but that quote shows arrogance. I have never heard Stephen Harper say 'Canada needs me as their pm' while he was campaigning. HE would say 'As your next prime minister...' or 'IF im elected your prime minister...' Dion flat-out says that Canadians need him. dion can screw himself, we dont need him. hell, we dont need harper, or layton, or duceppe, or may. we dont need anyone, we choose who we want. this is not a dictatorship, as dion wants it to be. he is a dictator. -
The clash and effect of ideologies
SamStranger replied to SamStranger's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Hmmm, shouldn't be too hard considering that Canada doesn't have a political party who's main voter core are social/neo-conservatives, (unless you are considering the CHP) maybe that is why you find it confusing. Wow, did you come up with 'dat' one all by 'urself'? for gods sake, you missed my whole point! THE Point im trying to make is how does a conservative party govern for all of canada, including liberals, and howcome liberals never governed for the 4 million reform voters that voted for preston manning. sheesh. -
It's quite simple in some ways. Their are people in this country who have a left-wing/socialist point of view. And their are people in this country who have a right-wing/conservative point of view. but theirs a hard part. a mean part. a confusing part. how does a political party who's main voter core are social/neo-conservatives, govern for a country that has a liberal/left-wing majority? is it really possible for Stephen harper to do something that liberals will see as a good, socialist thing? ??? now let's flip the coin. does stephane dion have a single conservative bone in his body? if he were to take government, would he represent the 5 million+ right-wing voters? can it be done? Is it really fair how liberals assume that what they believe in, all Canadians believe in. What about the former alliance/reform base of voters? Preston manning took over 4 million votes in the 1997 election. did the liberals do a single conservative thing to appease those voters? I think we need to discuss this- it's time for us to let it out. What do Liberals REALLY think of conservatives, and what do conservatives REALLY think of liberals? Can we ever get along and do whats best for all of canada?

Ready for a Spring Election?
SamStranger replied to SamStranger's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
hahaha. BRAVO Liberals.... you have managed to take over this board. Its soooooo strange how (in my poll) 13 people supported the tories and only 7 the Liberals... yet I was the only person that supported harper on this thread... funny eh? Man! You guys forget the 13 years of Liberal Waste, Mismanagement, and Corruption! 13 years of NO Tax Cuts, NO help for parents, NO help for students, NO help for seniors, NOTHING on the environment, and a bunch of lies and scandals. Man, call me "ideological" but I would rather support a party of good governance (Conservative) over a party tangled in a web of shit. (Liberal) -
Its quite simple the way I see it. Its Harper vs. Dion for the job of Prime Minister. So in other words its... Cutting Taxes vs. Raising Taxes. Its reducing green house gases vs. Raising them by 33%. Its having a comprehensive cancer strategy vs. Nothing at all. Its $1200 a year for each kid under 6 vs. NOTHING for parents. Its locking prisoners up for longer vs. Letting murderers and pedophiles vote. Its being against SSM vs. Being FOR SSM. Its brining accountability back vs. Culture of entitlement Its an Anglo-Albertan vs. Another Liberal that can barely speak english Its redusing wait times vs. Letting wait times go UP AND UP Its having future elections for senators vs. Unelected Liberal Corrupt Senators I want you guys to fill in the rest. Lets have a debate, shall we?

Bob Rae Looking to Squeeze out the NDP
SamStranger replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
lol The Liberals are soooo arogant it's hilarious. For starters, Bob Rae keeps talking about how Stephen Harper is "out of touch" with Canadians- but the polls show over 57% of people like him as Prime Minister, over Bob Rae and Ignattief. Man I hate Liberals. -
What is a French Canadian? Are they normal Canadians who happen to speak French instead of English? Or, are they a whole new breed of human? The answer is simple. Quebec (is) what it wants (to be). What makes Quebec so special? Why should Quebec get special treatment? Why do they stand out from Ontario, Newfoundland, Alberta and P.E.I? I spit on that. Quebec is equal to the other provinces and territories. They piss and moan because the so called "fiscal inbalance" and say that Canada owes they $4 billion. What about Ontario!!? Are we not important? Or Alberta, Nova Scotia, Manitoba!? I say SEPERATE. We don't need you. Canada is a country that needs to be UNITED not DIVIDED. We can't have a province that wants to be different and wants to leave. Let em' leave! They have never been loyal to Canada. "Quebec is my nation and Canada is my country" Fongulli Stronzatto! (Italian curse ) In World War I, most Quebec born soldiers refused to join Battalions with people from the other other province. They insisted for an all-quebec battalion. I am not condeming those brave soldiers who died for us, but I am proving that they always wanted to be known as Quebecers not Canadians. Something has to be done. I say, let em' leave!
-
who was better and why? On one hand- Bob Rae raised the most taxes since the depression. On the other hand- Mike Harris was the first Premier in Ontario to ever cut Income Taxes.
-
Agreed. But niether does the CPC now. Well yes and no. The tories are looking to "drastically" (as Flarherty said) cut personal Income Tax. Im not sure if he means actually lowering the % of Federal Income tax taken off each pay? I am very happy with the direction of the GST- cutting it was a good start, its time to put forward leglislation to ABOLISH it by 2010. I can see it now. Election 2007- Tory platform: ABOLISH THE GST BY JANUARY 1ST 2010. As far as the Income Trust Tax is concerned- it doesnt effect me directly so im not worried. According to most economists its a good thing because corporations owe the government billions of dollars.
-
hahah I laugh at all you "banker" type nerds- who for some really odd reason actually like taxes. For God's sake- the GST is not a good thing. Having to pay 7% or 6% of even 5% on every good or service you buy is horrible. Alberta is smart- they don't even have PST because they see the economic benifit to people. if your taxed less youll spend more. Simple math. Simple- very simple. Whats even more ammusing is the Liberals and NDP who fight to keep the GST at 7%, even though they voted AGAINST it in 1990- and caused a huuuuge stir in the senate when Mulrooney appointed 8 pc senators. I know ive repeated this many times in this thread, but you guys seem to forget that. The Liberals and NDP have no credibillity when it comes to taxes.
-
What Taxes should be cut? John Tory and the PC are gonna offer tax cuts, which would please you the most?
-
Everyone has their own view on taxes and the way we should be taxed. I don't take the side of any government at all when it comes to taxes. If i had it my way, their would be hardly no tax and everything would be privatized. I make almost $90,000 a year- and I pay over $40,000 in income tax- and another few in GST and PST. Thats not right at all. Id rather pay $90 to see a doctor then pay $40,000 in tax. Dont let the LYING, HYOPCRITE, ASSHOLE Liberals and NDP tell you "the GST is good". They VOTED AGAISNT IT in 1990, they caused a huge stir in the Senate when Mulrooney got the queens consent to add 8 PC senators to pass the bill. They swore to ABOLISH the GST in their 1993 campaign- and never did. The only party with credibillity on the GST is the Conservatives, because most of them came from the Reform/Alliance- and Preston Manning, Stockwell, and Harper have always been enemies of the GST- and now their finllay cutting it. No more games. It's time to bring forward leglisation that Abolishes the GST by 2010. We should start a lobby group or something!

Layton brings "Non Confidence Motion"
SamStranger replied to SamStranger's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
agreed -
CPAC said last night that Layton submitted a non-confidence motion to the speaker. The motion states no confidence in the government based on the environment. If harper doesnt work with the NDP the motion will go threw... I doubt the Liberals will bring down the Tories with no leader. Is Layton an idiot? Imagine if the government fell tomoro night and an election was called. Does he really think that he's gonna win more seats based on the environment!? Ha!

Sam, your explaination doesn't change the nature of the debate. Even if we accept that spending can be cut by the required amount, there is still a decision to be made on whether the amount saved should be applied to income tax cuts or the GST or potentially some other tax. Your missing my point! Howcome when you mention cutting a certain tax, you automatically fire back with a tax hike!? Is it not possible to totally ABOLISH the GST, and not raise any taxes? Yes, it is possible- ill say it again- cut spending, so a $40 billion dollar hole remains a hole. Now, I see your other point. Your saying to cut Income and Corporate Taxes aswell. Thats a good idea, but why would you suggest to raise the GST??? If we turn the table, and say it costs $50 billion to cut Income and Corporate Taxes- why do we have to fill the hole by raising the GST? Lets just leave the hole, and cut spending. Thats the (REAL) Conservative way. ps: Ive come to realize that the Tories in Britain are much more fiscally conservative than here.
-
It's so amusing when over-taxed citizens debate which taxes should be cut, and which should be raised... Just because one tax is cut, why does another have to be raised? Well, it all comes back to spending. Its simple math. If you spend less, you can tax less. If we eliminate the GST by 2010, the 2011 fiscal year will probably have a roughly $40 billion dollar hole- that hole doesnt need to be filled by raising income tax, it can stay a hole. Just lower spending! Its so simple. For anyone thats still confused Ill put it in simple terms: If i have a jug of orange juice (entire budget) and theirs 5 glasses on the table (social programs, health care, millitary, all exspences... ect. ect.) do I... A) Fill all 5 glasses and empty the jug (future deficeit) B- Fill all 5 glasses halfway and have a bit left (surplus) C) Pour some juice out- then fill 5 glasses 1/4 full (cut some taxes, lower spending) D) Take away the 5th glass and fill the other 4 up (cut spending, eliminate the GST ) Now, after I cut spending (took away 5th glass) and abolished the GST do I... A) Fill the Jug Back Up (raise other taxes, i.e. Income Tax) B- Leave the Jug as it is, even if its halfway (keep spending low, so no tax hikes will be needed) How did I do? Convinced?
-
Our economy has a saving problem - not a spending one. Cutting income taxes will increase savings and would likely increasing spending as well since people with more disposable income spend more.Taxation is nothing but a choice of poison. Value added taxes like the GST are a less harmful poison than income taxes. Eliminating the GST would require income taxes to rise or at least stay the same. Therefore eliminating the GST is a really dumb idea. If our budget was $150 billion a year, apposed to $250 billion a year how it is now- we could afford to eliminate the GST and mabye some income taxes. Cutting spending is the direction we need. No more social programs. Health Care, Millitary, Infastructure and Crime should cover the $150 billion a year- Have you been brainwashed by the lying liberals and NDP? They voted AGAINST the GST in parliment in 1990, and now they are the champions of the GST. The GST should NEVER have been brought it. Mulrooney had to get the queens permission to appoint 8 Progressive Conservative Senators so that the bill would pass. It was a crime. The GST should not exsist.
-
No I want to raise the GST and cut income taxes. The GST is too low, income taxes are too high. That doesnt make much sense. Cutting sales tax (GST) will encourage more spending- therefore will help the economy. I admit Income Taxes are criminally high (almost 40% of my grosse) but the GST is much bigger enemy. Id rather have Income Taxes taken off then when I go to buy a $20 CD is end up paying $2,$3,$4,$5,$6 in tax...
-
Are you ignorant...??? Government spending has gone up 40% in the last 20 something years, thats why were paying these damn high taxes- and you want to raise it more!? If our society was more CONSERVATIVE we would be able to cut taxes dramatically without having a bad effect. Im assuming you share the NDP mentality of "tax and spend". Well im sorry- the conservative way is much better. Decrease government activity and spending and lower taxes. Thats much better Jack.

Well, whether their is a spring election or not- Harper is going to come under some heat about the GST... During the last election, a poll showed that 75% of Canadians supported a GST cut because they believed it would lead to eventually abolishing it. Now, a few days ago Harper gave a speech saying "The GST will not be cut again next year- We never said that. We said we would cut it by 1% in the first budget (which we did) and cut another 1% in 5 years" Sadly, cutting it by 1% in 5 years won't bring us any closer to abolishing it. Now, I am a Tory and I supported Stephen Harper 100% in the last election- BUT... I think that instead of cutting $22 billion dollars worth of taxes and tax incentives (2006 spring budget) they should have cut the GST from 7% to 5%, then put foward leglislation that abolishes the GST by 2010. Make sense?? I like the idea of a tax credit of Tradespeople tools, juniour sports, $80 for shool book, transit pass credit... but a GST overhaul would be much better politically, and for all us hardworkers. Now, anyone who says "we need the GST" are bullshiters. The Liberals PROMISED to "eliminate the GST" in the 1993 election, but never did. Now 13 years later, it's time to cut it (like the tories did) and put us on the path to elemintate it. Realistically, if they put forward leglislation that Abolishes the GST by January 1st 2010, all they have to do it cut spending by 2% each budget to pay for the missing gap of the GST. As long as they dont cut Health Care, Millitary, or Crime- and don't raise other taxes, im fine with it!
