Is this some sort of six degrees of separtation theory? I'm sure we could find a way to associate Sadam Hussien to Gandi using similar rubbish.

I thought this was the Canadian politics forum. guess I took a wrong turn somewhere. funny thing though: quote: Fascism is a system of government characterized by rigid one-party dictatorship, forcible suppression of opposition, private economic enterprise under centralized governmental control, belligerent nationalism, racism and militarism, etc., Rigid one party system-- 12yrs Liberals Forcible suppression of opposition, How many free votes under the Libs in the last 12 yrs (answer I believe can be counted on one hand) Private economic enterprise under centralized government control, Hmm, Paul Martin and his friends? Belligerent nationalism, well halfway with beligerent anti americanism, seems our only friends are France, China and the ex soviet block. OK you got me on the last two!

Hey moderater, delete this friggin jerk posting the same stupid petition on every bloody thread.

Ya I've got a good idea, lets let the greens have a debate with the NDP, and let the CPC and Libs have their own debate. You just can't have a four way or five way "debate", what you have is a panel discussion.

Basic Overviews?
Slim MacSquinty replied to writing_to_reach_you's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dear writing: As the father of an 18 year old I'll give you my hints: Talk to your family. whats important to them is almost certainly important to you. Decide what is important to you and do research on what the parties represent. If after deciding what is important to you you realize: The system isn't fair and people are hurting, you're an NDP. The environment is in crisis and the sky could fall tommorrow, you're a green. The world is full of gravy and you're not getting enough, you're a liberal. To many people are getting away with too much, you're a conservative. I hope you found this helpful. -
Basic Overviews?

YAAWN! There's a couple of rats on that ship that have not yet noticed the water is up to their noses. You can keep repeating the same stuff over and over again but it still does not make Harper what YOU believe him to be. But to insult everyone who doesn't believe what you believe only demonstrate televangilist intellect. Your like that TV station that only plays re-runs of 1970's shows, boring and out of touch. -
You're going in so many directions I think your dizzie.

Trying to start a new party
Slim MacSquinty replied to LabourPartyCanada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
My son and I were pondering the possibilities of a new polical party just the other day, we were thinking "the comedy party", just to make fun of all the idiots in politics. I was thinking of nominating crazy as my attorney general after I read his post about lawyers, clearly has a better grasp of the law profession than any politician I've ever heard. -
Why we must prevent Harper from becoming PM
Slim MacSquinty replied to emailforcanada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
hear hear Wilbur! Both sides are saying the other won't create spaces, why and the hell would you want the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT to create daycare spaces, that is ridiculous! Why can't people in these communities create their own daycare spaces, geez what are we a country of people so completely void of initiative that we have to lean on the federal government to wipe our highnees? -
What 'the people' say

quote: In May 2005 he was saying the amended Budget funding for municipalities was a deal with the devil. Then in June he's proposing tax breaks for people who take public transit. And when the election was called, his policy a day is throwing money around that his party just two years earlier would be saying back to him "People need a hand up, not a hand out." First of all he opposed the budget amendment because there is no jurisdictional relationship between municipalities and the federal governement, to create one is wrong, it is just a way for the feds to take credit for everything, pure politics. The gas tax money should just be given to the provinces based on the rate of collection on the stipulation that it is to be spent on infrastructure for which it was collected. For years the Libs have been collecting gas tax under false pretenses and spent NONE of it on the roads it was collected to maintain. furthermore they collect taxes on taxes for gas which I believe to be illegal and finally they added a temporary surcharge a few years back and have made killing on it, when asked to remove that surcharge when gas prices recently spiked to over $1/litre they refused. As for his promises, first he has a more broad based party he has to answer to and their policies are a reflection of this and their policy convention, second he is nowhere near the expenditure level that the Martinites doled out in their minibudget. By the way if you need further proof that Goodale's mini-budget was pure electioneering it was done without any consultation with the non-partisan budget committee. What has he announced that is a departure from the hand up as opposed to hand out philosophy?

People don't give a damn because they feel (with cause) that all the politicians lie to them. -

Quote: What choice is there for the hundreds of thousands of parents who will not have the opportunity to place their children in daycare and to have the opportunity to work and provide the economic benefits of that to their children. How does your "choice" benefit the economy when many are denied the chance of gainful and productive employment? Hey I forgot, wasn't free day care written into the charter of rights? I'm pretty sure it's just below the right to be irresponsible and just above the right to tell you what to do. -
Quote 1: As for some one who "may be a criminal," you are just repeating the sleaziest allegation in the history of Canadian politics. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Quote 2: The man is a complete fool if he thinks that he is progressive: worse than a criminal if his regressive taxation policies are ( as is more likely ) for the benefit onlyof the sector of society that is most prone to vote Conservative. Pot .. Kettle, Kettle .. Pot

Well I guess there is nothing to argue about then, you seem to know so much more than the rest of us perhaps you could finish your lecture with some elaboration on the "facts" just presented? I find it quite interesting that you label as "worse than criminal" some one who actually has a tax policy while defending some one who may actually be a criminal who apparently has none.

Harpers Gun and Gang Position
Slim MacSquinty replied to rbacon's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This is profoundly sad, People on the streat interviews in the Toronto media reveal two interesting things; there is lots of get tough on crime talk and the other is that there seems to be lots of people who believe that talk and rhetoric just might make this problem go away. The CPC has at least been consistant and I am saddened by the the Liberal team (Martin, MacGuinty and Miller) using this as a political opportunity. It's just too late to believe they give a damn. -
Not necessarily, The scenario you lay out above is mostly true if the Libs return, Quebec, and perhaps Alberta, will take it as an offence that the rest of the country is not listening to them. If Martin is PM again, he has no credibility in Quebec to either try and win for federalism or negotiate their departure. That is precisely why we have to make sure Harper gets in. Quebec would be much happier under his leadership so maybe they would be less inclined to a positive referendum result, and if, and I hope it doesn't happen, they do vote to separate, Quebec will not be negotiating with a Quebecer. Remember also, prior to the last referendum, Harper wanted the rules clear going in, as such he wrote a bill that later became the Clarity Act, Chretien and the Libs would have nothing to do with it at first. At that time, prior to the Supreme Court's involvement Harper was the only one who properly interpreted the Constitution Act and defended the "rest of Canada"'s rights.
-
The Libs may want the public to believe they are neck and neck with the CPC as that is exactly what they did last time before they went to the negative scary stuff, it motivates those who are afraid to either change form CPC to Lib or from NDP to Lib. I don't think it'll work this time though as the last election wasn't that long ago and lots of folks still remember.

What's wrong with the criminal justice system

Quote: One of the problems with this "Law and Order" approach, is that the new gang and drug has bred a memebership that really does not care much about life and is not unafraid to die. Certainly drastic measures must be taken but it is the ultimate in stupidity and class complacency to deny the underlying causes of social alienation. Poverty and discrimination are without any question at the roor of most crime of any sort other than the White Collar of greed' What are you a Judge? The individual presently under arrest in relation to the boxing day shooting in Toronto was on probation after serving 30 days for robbery, has a lengthly disclosable criminal record (at the age of 20) many involving guns and has had numerous serious charges dropped in pleas in the last 12 months. How many f**king chances does this guy deserve, lets talk about how he is a victim. I think we should start finding sentencing judges culpable when their early release offenders do more damage.

If Harper forms a minority government...
Slim MacSquinty replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You miss the point newbie, what Argus has layed out would, in all likelyhood, be supported by enough of the other parties to fly. If the Libs are boinked out of power, they'll be so busy putting knives in each others backs that a small number of them at least will actually support some of this stuff. Right on argus! Lets hope it happens, we really need a change. I figure this is the most important election since free trade, maybe moreso. -
Liberal Majority!? Why!?
Slim MacSquinty replied to SamStranger's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Confederation <{POST_SNAPBACK}> WRONG! That's why so many Provinces are pissed, half of their promises in this election run counter to the principles of Confederation since they're stomping into Provincial jurisdictions. This is why we're looking at Quebec and western separatists. -
How low will the Liberals stoop?
Slim MacSquinty replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Who posted the ridiculous statement that Harper's policies are anti-people, and then used a reference to Manning in support. What orifice is your head in? Manning was a populist, by definition this is "for the people", the Liberals have been, and still are, the party of big business, go and read Peter C Newman's Titans books they're mostly Liberals, he lays it all out. You see their scam goes like this; sprinkle some money around to social programs and multi-cultural endorsements. Keep the stupid masses concentrating on things like "Canadian Values" and then give away the fort to your friends in business while everyone's looking the othr way. They've been doing the same thing for years! Get your head out the light will bother your eyes at first, but they'll adjust trust me!
