  1. quote]Refusing to use the same term for SSM is discrimination because it basically says same-sex relationships are less worthy than heterosexual relationships. That is why the supreme court will eventually strike down any seperate but equal definition passed the CPC because the justices will recognize that the anti-SSM movement is based entirely on fear and hatred of homosexuals. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Even if you were a Justice of the Supreme Court it would be awfully presumptuous of you to conclude what their decision would be in advance. In the face of the presented facts (thanks scriblet) your arguement is moot.
  2. I always wondered about Chretien, he was in politics virtually from birth and only had a brief sojorn in the Libs favourite Law firm but somehow retired a multimillionaire. Maybe his wife has a head for business? I even bought a couple of biographies but neither shed light on this. His daughter married a Desmaris though, maybe a backwards dowry?
  3. quote: In a speech at the U of A this past year, the CBC's Avi Lewis singled out Martin's 1995 budget as the single biggest victory in history for Canada's right wing. According to Dalton Camp, he lifted the vast majority of that buget from Michael Wilson's policy. As for social policy, lets hope we can dig ourselves out from the ridiculous "free thinking" left's ban everything we don't do ourselves mentality.
  4. Report on another board is crediting the release of this speech to Belinda Stronach. Don't know if its true, but she should have been able to find better dirt than this under Peter's pillow. Or maybe there wasn't any?
  5. I don't think he said anything particularly out of line, especially when you keep it in context. How to you expect to make improvements to this country if you refuse to see anything is wrong? Maybe wrap yourself in the flag pick a fight with your neighbour and bury your head in the sand. quote: But most of us didn't realize the depth of his hatred toward Canada and Canadians. He glibly sells us out to the Americans... if he says things like this in public, would he commit treason in private?... Hatred toward Canada, sell out to Americans, treason. Not prone to exaggeration are we! Wouldn't it be treason to steal say 1 to 10 million dollars from the government?
  6. I am in the middle of a book written by a former American arms inspector about Iraq, if what this guy says is true, saddam makes Stalin look like a sunday school teacher.
  7. Quote: We're going to stop the abortions.... and in response to the strong negative public reaction, changed it to: We're not going to put forth a bill to ban abortions, but if one of our private members wants to, we'll vote on it... (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) and when the public reaction to this was still very negative, We're not going to ban abortions. If you could actually reference these quotes we would all be ever so greatful.
  8. Well think about it, he's talking to a bunch of Republican Americans, he tells them about gays and abortion, but he didn't state that he had an opinion on them, infering something from this speech is imagination. Clearly he has thought a lot about the problems in this country and between then and now seems to have come up with a plan for the future, thats more than I can say for the Liberals. Martin's just running around wrapping himself in the flag and saying stupid things about America. Who's the leader and who's the slave to the polls?
  9. I didn't think that speech was particularly scary, very frank and even a little funny. He's a libertarian, he finds the NDP scary, me too, read anything on babble lately? I think his synopsis of the political climate of 1997 was quite insightful.
  10. He must care a lot or why else we he subject himself to all the crap from the lefties. My stomach turns everytime I hear the Libs yapping like the only real Canadians are Liberals. Never trust a politician who wraps himself in the flag.
  11. quote: Martin did not grow up as a millionaire. He made it in the fashion beloved of the Right. Martin went to private school, not exactly the fodder of middle class, his father was a cabinet minister and was a Liberal leadership hopeful. The scuttlebut is that Strong promised he would make it up to Martin senior by making jr Prime Minister some day. And here we are. His entire career was with power corp. then CSL (which power corp spun off for him) and the Libs law firm. The interesting thing is it seems nearly impossible to find anything out about Martin thats not PR or a ten second sound bite. He is truly teflon in terms of his actual thoughts. As for what makes middle class, the left has been slowly pushing the idea that anything under $50k/yr is poor and anything over $100K is fithy rich.
