  1. The recent celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the fall of the wall of Berlin which included Gorbachev as an honorary guest portrayed clearly how far apart the west of Europe is from Russia; In Russia Gorbachev nowadays is considered nothing more than a grumpy old man who destroyed the Soviet empire.
  2. Cliche? Perhaps so. Unfortunately the indigenous people on the American continent didn't have sufficient force to fend off intruders and look what happened to them and their continent. The same thing is happening to Europe today with the notable difference that there would certainly be enough force to turn the tide but there is no political will to do so. The big question is: Who is behind all this and gives orders that Europe must be inundated with Africans?
  3. There are two things which stop any Canadian politicians gaining points from being anti-immigration; Firstly, the obvious, Canada itself is a country based and founded on immigration. Therefore anyone in Canada would seem a bit hypocritical to say the least to be fervently anti-immigration. Secondly, Canada has a points-based system for immigration, which ensures that the smartest people get in and the dross are left out. Most Canadian-born people wouldn't pass the points-based system for immigration.
  4. German reunification 25 years later? Gosh, is it already October 2015? I know that time flies but this fast!
  5. Whichever way it goes, this is is going to rest. If it is no, then the issue may crop up again in some time in the future but it will be a question of decades. If it is yes it is permanent. There were people saying about Ireland when they got independent 100 years ago that they'll come crawling back begging to be allowed back in. Hasn't happened yet. (Actually, which date do the Irish consider their independence: The Free State-phase or the final breaking of bonds with the UK?)
  6. The news-reporting of this conflict is beginning to remind that of the Yugoslav civil-war 20 years ago with this simplistic good guys vs bad guys-view.
  7. N's are n's. It is too much to ask from them to abide by the law and not being a constant nuisance.
  8. Even though according to some economic analysis the USA is definitely the centre of the universe and therefore even their domestic news become international news, even considering that, I find it a bit exhilarating that I read about this story on the YLE-website in Finland. YLE is the Finnish broadcasting corporation. It is even a big story and a lot of comments have poured in.
  9. If white people kicked up a fuss every time a black man murders white people there would be no end to rioting ever.
  10. Isn't it a bit inevitable that a good country is also boring? A kind of a flip side of the same coin. I'm sure that countries such as Iraq or Afghanistan are definitely not boring.
  11. Yet again: We are victims, we are victims, we are victims. The African-Americans just love to wallow in that mentality, don't they?
  12. In case anyone is gullible: There is nothing co-incidental about the turmoil in Iraq. The invasion and the toppling of the regime 11 years ago was meant to drive the country into turmoil.
  13. Are some people really gullible enough to believe in the sincerity of this humanitarian aid-convoy?
  14. It's not going to end well but things have escalated to a point of no return as there is no honourable retreat for either side.
  15. I must say that as living and working in the Finnish capital-area I have a lot of Russian work-mates and some of them are just great people while others are intolerable pissheads. In other words, people like peole anywhere elese. Having said that, if the push came to shove I wouldn't trust any of them and why would I? After all, this is not their country. Despite having great work-mates I'm not exactly convinced of the wisdom of the Finnish government to allow permanent residence of such a large and ever growing number of Russians. They could easily become pawns in a very cynical game.
  16. I'm not sure about actual Canadians but I think if I were Canadian I would never call the people of the USA as Americans. That just doesn't sound right given that America is a vast continent that the USA is only one country in it.
  17. One picture speaks more than a thousand words: http://www.rferl.org/contentinfographics/gazprom-russia-gas-leverage-europe/25441983.html
  18. The Ukraine-crisis has nothing to do with NATO and the obligations that come with belonging to NATO. Canada has voluntarily joined the countries placing sanctions on Russia. The EU acts like a block and no individual countries within the EU can slip out of imposing sanctions. Lets remember how the crisis started: The ousted Ukrainian government refused to sign a free trade-deal with the EU. Then Yanukovich was kicked out and a pro-EU government came in or, according to the Russian propaganda, was installed.
  19. I'm so glad there are countries such as Canada, Australia, the United States etc where people from different cultures can have one society and similarly a melting-pot. (Hahahaa) Sorry about the sneering but on a serious note, we have burkha-clad women on the streets here in Finland. I can easily understand that there are burkha-clad women in countries such as Britain, Germany, France or even Sweden but wtf Finland of all the countries. Finland is just about as far away from everything as one could imagine. A kind of New Zealand of Europe. It has been the strength of Finland that we are back of the beyond far away from everything and nobody knows where we are and nobody knows anything about us and nobody even cares. And yet even we get burkha-clad women in our streets!
  20. Answer to the title of the thread: Never! The same answer to the question when will Russia give Karelia back to Finland.
  21. Is there a very large number of Canadian citizens with a Ukrainian background who can not be disregarded? I cant think of any other reason why a country like Canada gets involved in a dispute which is really none of their problem.
  22. Brazil is going to make a lot of money now as they are not among the countries imposing sanctions on Russia and from now on Russia will import a lot of dairy products from Brazil. As for the no flying in each others airspace it will hurt a lot of countries in Europe to have to fly to Asia along a diverted route.
  23. I can imagine how the Canadian farmers must be feeling. The Ukraine-crisis is a huge issue in Europe but not really Canada's problem. After all, Canada is unlikely to be the next country Russia starts bullying and intimidating if they get away with Ukraine.
  24. If the west imposes sanctions on Russia then Russia responds in kind; at first no flying over Russian air-space when travelling to Asia. May hurt a lot of those who have business with China and Japan.
  25. 28th of July was the official start of the war.
