  1. One way to attack a country is to create a fifth column in that country. As the famous Chinese warlord Sun Tzu said thousands of years ago that the cleverest form of warfare is that when your enemy doesnt realise that he is at war with you. Still valid today.
  2. Ross Perot was some sort of a protest-candidate in 1992 and to a lesser extent in 1996. Somewhat telling that a protest-candidate was a multi-millionaire.
  3. How do all those Haitians end up in Canada? I can understand that Mexicans and Central-Americans enter the USA by secretly crossing the border, climbing over some wall or fence. However, outside of the USA you can only enter Canada illegally by rowing or swimming there.
  4. Theresa May didn't win the confidence-votes within her party at first and then in parliament at large because anyone would think she is the best person for PM. It's only because nobody in the Tories wants her job. Jeremy Corbyn, on the other hand, wants her job very badly and he is doing his best to trigger an election. May is lucky to have Corbyn as her main-opposer. If there was Tony Blair in his heyday he would chew this Tory-government apart.
  5. Both the USA and Canada are artificial countries. However, the USA has the excuse of being the economic and military super-power of the world. If the USA disintegrated and every state became an Independent country it would be very unlikely that any of those states would single-handedly become a world super-power.
  6. I often wonder if the Spanish-speaking countries of South-America had formed some Estados Unidos De America Del Sur instead of there being several different countries would that one big country be better off than the present different countries. Reversely, if all the Canadian provinces were different countries would most of them be better off compared to what is now? After all, nine Canadian provinces are geographically larger than France, the geographically largest country in Western-Europe.
  7. When Norway voted against joining the EU there were similar demands that there should be a hard border between Sweden/Finland and Norway even though the Nordic countries has been a passport-free zone since the 1950's. It is quite touching how concerned the EU is about its borders. I just wish the same concern applied to illegal immigration across the Mediterranean so that the illegal immigrants wouldnt be towed to Europe instead of back to where they started their perilous journeys.
  8. Theresa May has united the country at least on one way. Namely, just about everyone thinks she is completely useless as PM.
  9. Brexit is a two-way street. Namely, even if it turns out to be a mistake for the Brits it also hurts what is left of the EU. Losing a big major member-state is huge defeat for the EU too. On the other hand, Brexit is a relief for the most ardent federalists within the EU as the most recalcitrant member-state is leaving there is less opposition to the idea of a European super-state.
  10. A British work-mate of mine is very nervous about how Brexit is going to affect his life in Finland. He has to go through some bureacratic procedures and may even have to apply for a residence-permit. Fair enough if those rules applied to everyone but somehow people from the MENA-countries have no bureacratic problems whatsoever.
  11. Both main parties are split in the middle regarding Brexit. Another example how the traditional party-division is outdated. Corbyn is also pro-Brexit but he is using this present turmoil as an opportunity to catapult him to power.
  12. Simple maths really. Those who oppose Brexit oppose any deal because they dont want Brexit. Those who want Brexit dont want a crap deal. Hence the offered deal was rejected in parliament. May's days are numbered. Actually, all these European Ms, Merkel. Macron and May, are political corpses. At least Merkel had her powerful moments, which cant be said of the other two Ms.
  13. I guess the promise not to lead the party into the next election was the price May had to pay not to be thrown out immediately.
  14. If and when Theresa May loses the Brexit-vote in Parliament she will cling on as PM but only because there is no obvious successor within the Tories. However, she will be a lame duck.
  15. Next Tuesday is the moment of truth unless May chickens out again and further postpones the vote. The Brits are in an unenviable position regarding their politicians. Their PM is indecisive and weak while the alternative is an unelectable communist.
  16. Yes, many of those people are unbearable hypocrites. Here in Finland we have one female-politician, a socialist(surprise), who goes on constantly about how the climate-change is the biggest challenge of our lifetime and we must do everything to stop it. Once the same politician posted on her instagramm-account pictures of her holiday in the Mediterranean. People rightly asked her how did she get there. Did she row there or did she even swim all the way over there.
  17. In a country like Finland, and I suspect that in Canada too, if you live in a house which has central-heating your carbon footprint is already higher than that of several people in countries of the so-called developing countries. If you turn on the light in your heated house your carbon footprint grows again. If you have a car that really increases your carbon footprint. If you take a foteign holiday especially by flying there your carbon footprint grows exponentially. We keep on being reminded of this all the time by people who simultaneosly are worried about ageing population and labour-shortage(hahah!) and as a solution propose more immigration.
  18. If you believe in man-made climate change then in order to be logical you surely must be opposed to mass-immigration from low carbon footprint countries to high carbon footprint countries such as Finland or Canada. We are told that the carbon footprint of an average Finn is more than 10 times that of a person from the so-called development countries.
  19. It has been said that one should never blame the victims of any crime but despite that I can't help thinking how stupid those women were. Hiking and camping alone in the mountains of Morocco. However, if you live in extremely soft countries which all Scandinavian countries are it is probably easy to develop a bubble in your head thinking that all of the world is nice and full of kind people. Sad to say but in the Scandinavian schools people are subjected to exactly that kind of brainwashing from very early on that all people everywhere are nice and to doubt that makes you a prejudiced bigot.
  20. Btw., didn't Canada, like the UK, also change its Election-law towards fixed-term parliaments or am I mistaken? In the UK early elections are still possible but not decided solely by the PM but it requires 2/3 approval in parliament. At least IIRC Canada shortened the parliamentary term from five to four years.
  21. Two Scandinavian womem, a Norwegian and a Dane, were murdered in Morocco as they foolishly went camping in the mountains. ISIS has claimed responsibility. News like this is poison for Morocco which is dependant on tourism. On Saturday there was a demonstration in the Moroccan capital outside the Danish embassy expressing anger at the crime and condoleances for the families of the murdered women. A nice gesture one might say. A more cynical person would interpret it as a plea not to stop visiting Morocco as Morocco still needs your money.
  22. Trudeau is an internationally well-known politician. It is by means at all outside Canada considered to be general knowledge to know who is the PM of Canada but Trudeau is known all over the world.
  23. Does it look like he is going to lead his party to another election-victory? I thought most people in Canada are fed up with him, not least because is a bit of an embarassment at the helm of the government.
  24. It is nowadays happy holidays instead of merry christmas. That offends nobody as there days not offending anyone is the main priority.
  25. Is there some symbolic value about the date March 29th or was it just something arbitrarily pulled out of a hat and therefore perfectly delayable?
