  1. My old school buddy, Jarda, e-mailed me a few hours ago. He is a big time bookmaker in the Czech Republic, or so he says, ... and he told me that he got some inside information about the Canada/Czech Republic game. He said that both, Canada and Czecho, were planning to throw the game in order to not face the Russians in the quarterfinals. But when both teams started threatening each other that they are prepared to shoot on their own net, cooler heads prevailed and a coin toss decided as to who MUST win! I don't trust Jarda's bullshit much of the time. But this time, this time I DO! And that is because I have no other explanation as to why Canada would want to win that game. PS - Jaromir Jagr's explanation why the Slovaks lost to the Czechs? "To beat us is probably more important to them than to win the gold. I don't think it's helping them. You have to have a clear head and not be TOO motivated."
  2. The American woman's softball team was allowed to hammer their oponents mercilessly in three Olympics before softball was dumped from the summer games. http://www.sportsposterwarehouse.com/wareh...ynasty05uss.htm
  3. Neither is Father Raymond J. de Souza, in this instance. He's going absolutely nuts about it. LOOK: http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/is...3b-68a9efb498d9 Here's an excerpt from de Souza's article titled "Not the Canadian way": """In the real world, the Olympic Games are more about national pride than athletics. Strip away the patriotic medal count, and you would be hard-pressed to find an audience for most of the sports. Therefore, on the grounds that the Olympics are primarily an occasion of national pride, Canada should lead the drive to drop women's hockey from the 2010 Olympics. And if it must be held, Hockey Canada should decline to enter a team. It's bad enough to feel awkward about our national team when it's across the ocean; it would be intolerable on home ice. "To run up a score like that, that is wrong," said my fellow Kingstonian, Don Cherry, of Canada's 16-0 defeat of Italy, and 12-0 defeat of Russia, before they went on to beat Sweden 8-1, Finland 6-0, and Sweden again by a count of 4-1 in the gold medal game. "First of all, it is not the Canadian way." No, it's not the Canadian way, and it should not happen in 2010 on Canadian ice. Women's hockey simply does not (yet) belong in the Olympics. Outscoring the opponents by a combined total of 46-2 is not a competition. There is nothing sporting about it."""
  4. Correction: ......... that's "Jeffrey" Buttle. Sorry 'bout that!
  5. After being given shit by everyone including Don Cherry for NOT slowing down, I bet you they finally did. I feel sorry for those who paid big bucks to see the best team play for the gold ..... I'd ask for my money back if I found out they were slacking off. And what about the TV viewing audience. Would YOU watch if you knew they weren't putting their hearts into it? Yet our #1 public intellectual, Don Cherry, thinks nothing of it. He's not too bright, is he?
  6. WRONG!!! 21 to Go!!!! We just won a bronze in Short-Track. Congrats to Anouk LeBlanc-Boucher! WRONG!!! 20 to Go!!!! We just won a bronze in Figure Skating. Congrats to Geoffrey Buttle!
  7. Well DaVinci's City Hall was just cancelled and with it your hopes of smoking in bars. You know, we are a minority now.
  8. ------------
  9. Isn't it sad to see super-talented individuals choke? Emanuel Sandhu has got just as much talent as Evgeni Plushenko and Johnny Weir, yet he's sitting in seventh spot while those two are in spots 1 and 2. I hope he pulls one out of the hat in the long program, he's great to watch. All three are.
  10. The same old way? Harper? NO WAY! Look: http://www.canada.com/reginaleaderpost/sto...f6aad19&k=72543 """Two of Canada's most respected political historians say David Emerson's backflip into the Conservative cabinet is an unprecedented show of arrogance and a grave error by Prime Minister Stephen Harper. "I think it's outrageous that a man should run for one party and express himself in partisan terms, and then in a week when nothing has changed except his personal opportunity, he should change parties," said Blair Neatby, an eminent Ottawa historian and biographer of two Canadian prime ministers. In separate interviews on Tuesday, each predicted Harper would pay for the Emerson affair at the polls. "It's difficult to imagine anything so arrogant," Neatby said. "I don't think voters will forget. I don't think (Harper) judged the pros and cons sufficiently." He said Harper has squandered the credibility -- on ethics, honesty and clean politics -- that got him elected."""
  11. ???? Hey, no problem. As long as I've made you happy. Gee, I didn't know that David Asper was running the "CanWest CanSpell" competition. http://www.canada.com/calgaryherald/news/s...3a24e7a&k=24947 Was he grateful for your pointing out CanWest's childish mistake to him just in the nick of time? Did he give you a reward? Half of it should be rightfully mine, you know.
  12. Why would I go and pay to see Chris Evert play Martina Navratilova if, with minimal effort, I can always find a local junior or senior men's competition with much more talent ... and it's free.
  13. Who do you think gets more great advertising out of huge international events like the Olympics ... the immediate place where they are held, the Province, or the whole country? The whole country, of course. The place where theese events are held must be attractive, of course, and that is why you'll never see major international events in places like Detroit, Buffalo, Digby, Cornwall (before they dumped the mill), Sudbury, Bellville etc..
  14. So Biblio. Did you make money on your bets related to the 2006 election? I never do well when I bet on someone that I dislike. Just as well because, as sure as I'm standing here, I know that I could never really enjoy that kind of a win. GO IGNATIEFF GO!
  15. Now that short track speed skating came about, regular speed skating had to be renamed ... it's now called "long track speed skating". You know, thinking about track & field, I never see pygmoid athletes winning any sprints and mid range races there either. Maybe if they put several sharp turns into the 100, 200, 400, 800 etc. meter races ....... hmm, I think I'll put it into the IOC's suggestion box.
  16. It takes a big man to apolgize ... so I accept without reservation. And you can console yourself in the fact that you're STILL one of the elite who's on board with the next PM way out in front of the masses. One thing I disagree with ... I see Harper as a one term PM ... and I think we'll be seeing Michael sooner than you think. I just made a serious wager that he will be Canada's PM before his sixtieth birthday. The best bet I've ever made, I feel.
  17. You're a real ladies' man, I'm sure. I'm the cat that got the cream Haven't got a girl but I can dream Haven't got a girl but I can wish So I'll take me down to Main street And that's where I select my imaginary dish Standing on a corner watching all the girls go by Standing on a corner giving all the girls the eye Brother if you've got a rich imagination Give it a whirl, give it a try Try standing on a corner watching all the girls Watching all the girls, watching all the girls go by
  18. In all of the athletic sports women are far far inferior to men. Thus there is never any real reason to watch them strictly for their athletic ability, is there? You know, all winter sports where athletes have to bundle up and dress warm should be reserved strictly for the best among the best.
  19. What a shame! What would possess them to give the host country team such an unnecessary whooping? Could it be because all the Italian girls on that team seem to rival Sophia Loren in beauty? All I can say is that I hope it makes our team of ugly ducklings feel better.
  20. Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone?
  21. No man at the age of 70 has a black beard & hair like he sported. The same goes for the voice. He was lip-synching it, is my bet.
  22. Cassius Clay, aka Muhammad Ali was born on January 17. So was my dearest uncle, Joe. So when did Greg's bundle of joy arrive ... the 28th or 29th? Any famous people born on that day?
  23. Well, it's too late for Henry Kissinger who, although he came to America at the age of 14, NEVER got the training that Emerson's talking about, and thus NEVER lost his accent. He is too old now. But what about that guy from 'Cauli-fornia', Arnold Schwarzenegger? HE could use some of that training Emerson's talking about. He is still young. What an idiot ... tsk tsk tsk.
  24. So ... what do you think of Stockwell Day's new 'Department of Homeland Security' portfilio, hmm? That's more important than 'Foreign Affairs', no? Eat dirt, Peter!
  25. Watching TV from the corner of my eye I just overheard Emmerson saying ... "The weak ones die, the strong ones survive!" What an asshole! GO Michael Ignatieff GO!
