  1. Maher Arar contributed to his predicament 100%. I don't bleed for Mr. Arar and any records pertaining to national security should be kept secret.
  2. It seems these guys really want to get into power....NOT! We have a hard time keeping the alcoholic impaired off the road. Why would we want to further endanger the lives of the public even further concerning this single example with a drug that currently there is no way of testing the level of impairment. There are many other potential social problems concerning legalizing marijuana.
  3. I'am a centrist. I think most centrist on this board represent a moderate and realistic view concerning a left/right stance regarding most political issue's. I can't say the same for a lot of lefties on this board who's views are unrealistic and swing so far left that it makes no sense in even replying to most of their unattainable and ridiculous views. A separate issue though in my mind is Quebec who's demands confuse left/right ideologies and have to be dealt with in a separate light especially relating to language policies and Quebec ideologies that I think cause even further confusion. In my view multiculturalism also presents a troubling aspect concerning differentiating between normal Canadian left/right politics with the additional views of unreasonable cultural concerns but yet sometimes protected by Charter rights. What exactly is left and right in Canada is becoming I think very troublesome and maybe even isn't applicable anymore.
  4. Argus, you are a bigot. How can that be when August1991 says Argus is one of his favourite posters and August has been here like ---forever! August1991 Sep 14 2006, 03:49 PM Post #6 I'll indulge in this. These are the posters that I usually read (in no particular order): FTA Lawyer Riverview kimmy geoffrey Bakunin BlackDog TheloniousMonk Hardner Argus Hicksey Melanie RB jbg Dobbin KrustyKidd Cybercoma Canuck Bubbler Argus has an inimitable style. Kimmy should be a journalist (although it might corrupt her style). BD has the best snappy responses to stupidity. uOttawaMan has the best one-line summaries of long debates. rue is good but far too verbose. I miss Hugo. (Charles Anthony is good but no replacement for Hugo.) I wish gerryhatrick was less blindly partisan. (We need more Lefties here.) --------------------
  5. Oh yeah sure, somebody CALL THE COPS! We'll send a team of detectives over to Iraq tomorrow. Dysfunctional terrorist countries have more to worry about than something they can do nothing about, like waking up tomorrow. I think their digging a trench all around Baghdad in an effort to keep terrorist out but maybe the cops can help with digging.
  6. Sounds like a V for Vendetta scenario. Call it what you want. But the fact remains that the Islamic faith is the same for radical Muslims as it is for moderate Muslims.
  7. If these murdering assaults continue within the confines of a free and democratic country or countries in which freedom and rights are taken advantage of to this extent, then there may be no other option then to reduce or eliminate certain rights and freedoms. And if something like this is implemented it will no doubt bleed down to banning certain immigrants concerning cultures. You could say in effect radical Muslims are presently threatening and destroying freedom not only for all Muslims but for everyone. Could this be the turning point to completely totalitarian governments?
  8. Contribution to Canadian society in a way that reflects up and beyond ones normal contribution could be considered a characteristic quality concerning dedication to ones country and is a major concern regarding the decision for the appointment of a governor general. IMO this would be an 'attribution' totally separate from one would refer to normally as qualifications relating to education, experience etc. And while were at it, no one person could possibly decide this without including a personal bias. It is for this reason that a Canadian governor general should be elected by Canadian citizen's in a totally democratic manner from a list of nominated candidates.
  9. Qualifications has nothing to do with the appointment of the GG. Michael Jean was simply picked by Liberal Paul Martin in an effort to win immigrant and Quebec votes period. Michael Jean did nothing 'outstanding' or 'special' for the country of Canada to justify her winning this position. This posting dramatically indicates the power of a Canadian PM in an effort to bolster Liberal support rather than do the right thing and choose someone who has contributed to Canada in a tireless and dedicated manner.
  10. What is so impressibe about those qualifications? How is experience in journalism a qualification for being the titular head of state? Exactly, what's so impressive about a BA or MA these days? http://www.varsity.utoronto.ca/archives/11...ws/poverty.html She worked for the CBC as a broadcaster and it was her husband who was the filmmaker. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...?hub=TopStories But the important thing in this is not so much her qualifications but what was the really SPECIAL THING she did for the country? Is working for the CBC something outstanding?
  11. What do you think should be done to prevent that? We could do the what Muslim Islamic countries do and simply keep it in the family. This means we only allow White Christians to reside in the country. Picking out Muslim intruders would be relatively simple. Seriously, Western countries, the U.S. especially are doing as much as practically possible and doing a good job. What would you like them to do up and above what they are already doing in the way of security?
  12. Yout think we are going to face a nuclear attack this year? There could be an attack EQIVALENT to a nuclear attack.
  13. If that primitive way is scaring the holy bejeezus out of right wingers so that they trash liberal society on their own, well, I can see that being some cause for alarm. But in the sense of actually overunning western nations militarily? Pshaw. That's not denial: that's realism. Name on Arab or Muslim nation that could pose a threat to the west. Are you ready for the AMERICAN HIROSIMA? http://www.homelandsecurityus.com/site/modules/news/ Are you ready for the planned destruction of 20 airliners? http://www.canadafreepress.com/2006/kaplan091406.htm I'am totally sick and tired of all of it!!! More fearmongering by the Powers That Be. Plain and simple. I do not feel threatened by "radical islam". I feel threatened by those who invade countries based on total and complete lies. How can you trust anything they say in regards to the War on Terror when they - have not captured/killed Bin Laden. - told us the reasons for invading Iraq were irrelevant since a brutal dictator was removed. - Afghanistan is still in turmoil, and the Taliban are still a considerable threat (5 years later) - Patriot Act, NSA wiretapping, circumventing the constitution and your basic rights If an attack is done in the US, it will be by the powers that be to keep feer instilled in the population to keep the veil of security in place. EDIT : Also nice way if linking the latest E-Coli incident to BIOLOGICAL TERRORISM!! Most likely it was just a bad batch of spinach. That can happen to produce since it is organic, grows in the ground and if not properly handled. OMG be afraid of the food you eat. Makes me sick. 1.-What does the fact Bin Laden has not been captured/killed relevant? I think Laden not being captured supports a more serious threat. 2.- When you look at the broad perspective there were many reason invading Iraq was relevant based on opinion. You would have to be a foolish person not to come to a positive conclusion why this invasion was necessary albeit none that can be discussed in with absence of absolute proof. 3.- The Taliban are a serious threat as the article predicts and states: " The Taliban will launch a major strike (known as the "Badar offensive") against coalition forces in Afghanistan during the holy month of Ramadan. There are a lot of Muslims in Afghanistan. 4.- The Patriot Act, NSA wiretapping is absolutely necessary in a multicultural free country concerning potential attack with nut cases running around all over. To say " If an attack in the U.S. it will be by the powers to keep the fear instilled in the population to keep the veil of security in place" is sort of protecting the enemy. I suppose you think 9/11 was a fabrication by the CIA? The E-Coli spinach incident affected 20 states, 100 people affected including one death. The reason for the E-Coli spinach link was from an al-Qaeda forum analyst Randy Taylor was pursuing: " The E-Coli spinach incident was linked because Interestingly enough, some time ago I was perusing a well known al Qaeda forum and that exact subject of contaminating foods, specifically mentioning spinach, other foods and water supplies were the subjects of the posted information. I felt it my responsibility to share this with you."

  15. Wilber Did you not read the previous link. I really have a problem on this site acknowledging by certain members the outright hate towards the U.S. and the lack of support for initiatives important to maintain all aspects concerning Canadian well being. Are you in some kind of morbid denial that Arab countries are preparing or trying to overtake the world in their own primitve way? Has the Charter really replaced: ethics, values, morals, common sense, the right to independently evaluate the political state of Canada? I'll go down any day in the name of the U.S. over any other country in the world even Canada that has totally lost it's political bearings.
  16. Alternatives were available to gays other than 'marriage' that probably would have resulted with the same benefits has heterosexuals concerning equality. Gays wanted marriage as they didn't want to feel different. Guess what? They ARE DIFFERENT both mentally and biologically relating to the difference marriage is designed for mainly by churches throughout the countries of the world. The church supports and promotes heterosexual marriage especially for procreation concerning the creation of families. That's why they pursued the matter in court. They wanted to be able to marry each other the same as heterosexuals and be seen in the same light even concerning families ..which is impossible anyways.
  17. Remiel The purpose of this board is to write 'political opinions' not advance 'personal desires'. Opinions vary and if you agree with some more than others, good for you, I do to. You are simply not in the position to be a judge of 'free speech' or initiate a following that could create a 'bias' towards others. What you do is participate in the thread associated to whatever topic that interest you. Post your say. In fact I don't know why Gregg has not posted something himself or shut this thread down completely.
  18. I'm sure you could teach mouth breathing .......teach the capabilities of nukes though? Doubt it You are an ungrateful individual living off the protection of the U.S. with Canadians being like sheltered little children in day care while the U.S. and it's allies continue to do the dirty work in Iraq. Saddam was told to leave the country prior to the invasion in Iraq and even given the opportunity to surrender which he refused. He would have saved many lives if he had surrendered. "I'm sure you could teach mouth breathing .......teach the capabilities of nukes though? Doubt it" Your reference to asshole condescending comments like the one above indicates you can't even read. The capabilities of nukes are in reference to 'mass destruction' not manufacturing techniques which you tend to imply. http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/FactShee...undBriefing.htm
  19. Remiel That's your view. Favourite= 1.-a specially favourite person. 2.- a competitor thought most likely to win. Favoritism= 1. The unfair favouring of one person or a group at the expense of another. To bad you still don't get it.
  20. I'am basically talking about that all important mission when France snubbed the U.S. when asked to participate in the Iraq conflict. Got to give you credit for your diverting tactics. France is a lot closer to source terrorist countries than the U.S. who nevertheless got hit hard. Maybe I can give you mouth breathing classes concerning the capabilities of nukes.
  21. In Canada elections do not reflect the wishes of Canadians pertaining to popular vote. In Quebec (separatist dictatorships) are promoted and actually approved by parliament under the guise of a national federal party. In Canada we have been basically living under a one party dictatorship since the Trudeau era and basically ruled by Quebec dictatorial PM's. The Charter was implemented specifically by that dictatorship and ratified by NAIVE provincial premiers who did not question long term consequences especially concerning abuses of power. BTW- Any type of popularity contest including the one you implemented is almost exclusively carried out by an 'independent body' and not members of it's own group. It's like saying the winner of a beauty queen contest are judged and picked by members of their own group.
  22. Sorry to disagree August but Quebec is more anti-English than all other Canadian provinces combined are anti-French. This is proven in Quebec written law, Quebec media, Quebec ideologies, Quebec political aspirations, Quebec provincial and federal parties, and the general consensus of the Canadian media. Furthermore Quebec presents itself politically almost daily in every major media concerning some type of issue. Quebec is noisy politically compared to other provinces in Canada. To pretend Quebec does exist in a negative political light and should be treated with 'kid gloves' with a hands off approach is nonsense as they are the primary cause of political dissent in Canada. It's to bad you see this as anti-French when in Canada the actual political realities is English vs. French ideologies on a continual non-stop basis which allows opinions and views from either side. So you argue or defend your Quebec case and I will argue or defend any side I feel is unjust or politically incorrect, that is issue's concerning Quebec and other provinces in Canada as well as naturally any other political issue's in Canada or the world. I think this type of 'favourite poster poll' is extremely childish, creates dissension and animosity and sets up the discriminatory machinery concerning the creation of a clique. If I was Gregg I would shut down this thread as it promotes discrimination which is violation of Charter rights something that so many members on this site are so squeamish about.
  23. August1991 You are one transparent blackballing SOB!!!! Why don't you start your own site---SIR?
  24. I wonder how the U.S. will respond if France ever comes knocking on their door for any type of military assistance? http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/news...bdf&k=26409
