I left nutty bush for scary Harper ?
tml12 replied to USA_Liberal's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I already asked days ago for someone to provide proof of anyone stating they hate Americans. Still Waiting. Oh come on Honest Politician...but if I must: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...6010602237.html http://www.canadafreepress.com/2004/cover110504.htm http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...s_name=&no_ads= LMAO I love Martin's quote: "a more sophisticated relationship based on informed dialogue, shared values and respect for our differences." I should also note I never called this forum's left anti-American, I always said the general Canadian left. Funny I don't recognize those people as being part of this forum. Nice try though. And as I said I never directly accused anyone on this forum of being anti-American. You said you wanted: "anyone stating they hate Americans." You got it. -

You are right Eureka. I am defenseless against that very truthful attack. However, looking at the state of federalism under the Liberal government, I am willing to give Harper the benefit of the doubt... -
Glad you found it funny...

Something's Wrong With Liberal Tuition Policy?
tml12 replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yet another example, like we needed one, of why provincial/federal relations are so confrontational and often adversarial. The Liberals just cannot help themselves from interfering. "When will you get it thawed out?" Thanks for that Eureka, a couple more moments like that and you'll have me believing in your humanity. I thought Eureka's comment was directed at me... ...thanks for the clarification!!! -
I won't call you crazy because there are flaws with the nonwithstanding clause. That being said, I prefer elected officials to appointed judges if for the sole reason that I can call elected officials accountable to me.

Drea, Care to debate any of those issues? One of the reasons I am voting Conservative, aside from standing up for Canada, is for better North American relations. Why? I lived in the U.S. for a couple of years and I have a lot of family there. I would be happy to describe U.S. life as best as I remember it... -

Kind of like how Martin refuses to realease the names of the MPs and their ridings in Quebec that received cash payments from the bagmen. Enquiring minds would like to know the litttle amounts that add up to his claim that the Liberal Party of Canada owes taxpayers exactly $1.14 million. This can only work against him. Oh wait, it is working against him. Can't blame him, he does have something to hide. As I have said before, politics is a dirty game... LMAO we could be looking at an NDP majority if both of THOSE things are revealed...

-Yeah, arrogant. That's how you came off. You were trying to belittle my experiences, as if you would have any idea where I’ve been or what I’ve done. -My travel(s) has nothing to do with "ski vacations". Again, you have no idea who I am, so why assume? -I'm not afraid of a "bubble bursting" and I'm not a "trust fund kid". -I'm not trying to represent you; I don't know you from a whole in the wall. We live in a big country with lots of different people; I think others get that as well. You are inferring that you served in Nam, if so, I respect your service but,,, what does that have to do with you starting this thread off with bull sh*t about losing licenses and being put on no fly lists, and crap about “threatening the planet”. Doesn’t sound too patriotic to me. You know America1, I had a cousin like you that lives in the U.S. Very conservative, pro-Bush, pro-Iraq, basically would agree with everything you have said here on this forum. He was in the U.S. Navy, received numerous medals including the Purple Heart, and served in the Korean War. On Canada? Basically he said the same things you have been saying...socialist state, anti-American, horrible and useless. It didn't mind that some of his cousins lived here... A while back, I asked him to come here and stay with me. Naturally, he resisted at first, saying he wouldn't spend his money here, etc. I finally convinced him, saying that he'd be staying with me, etc. WELL, he came...not just to Canada, but to Quebec...French Canada. And, I might add, had a wonderful time. He concluded by saying that although there were differences in the nations, he thought that Canada was a wonderful place overall. He was surpirsed at how the people didn't yell at him or spit at him because he was American and was very impressed with the trip overall. He said he had a greater appreciation for Canadians and a new respect for the struggles that both of our citizens go through. My point here? Don't come on to this forum instigating Canadians. You might be surpised with how you'd be treated if you came here. Naturally, I assume your views of Canada are based on typecasts that you have seen in the U.S. media, etc. But I can assure you, the only reason that some people on this board might have gotten angry at you is because you have become come here to start something. I hope you will accept this as constructive criticism...it was intended as nothing else but to inform you that Canada may yet surprise you with our goodwill toward all...

As a political science major and as one who reads a lot of political articles from some of the most brilliant political scientists (right and left-wing) I can say that this issue has been debated tirelessly. As I recall, but I don't remember for sure, Austrailia made voting mandatory because of their population decreases after WWII (?) Here in Canada, a lot of people don't vote because each vote benefits a political party in one way or another especially with our electoral finance laws. My personal view? Tough. I think that if we could pull off a respectable way of doing it, I'd support it. But as I have said before, there are other areas, like senate reform, of the democratic deficit that I would support reforming first.

David Peterson, 10 January 2006Toronto Star Curiously, the NDP website is also carrying this quote. I don't think a lot of people know where Ignatieff stands on a lot of the issues. I mean, I think we know a lot more about where he stands on the Russian government, not the Canadian one.

I will not disagree that the ads were masterfully produced, but I worry about the kind of effect they'll have if the Liberals get back in. First, I am not a Bush fan, but I am a fan of the American people and these ads do not seem to find any great difference between the two. "Mr. Harper, the U.S. is our neighbour, not our nation?" No kidding, but was it necessary to be so dire about the threat that a potential Harper government poses? I mean, do not a lot of Canadian and American people share a lot of similar values and morals, regardless of whether Bush or Martin share those values? I didn't like that at all. As for the military ad, WTF??? I mean, did River_God produce that ad? Harper is going to militarize our cities? It just didn't seem fair and actually quite insulting to the veterans. I can just see a veteran walking through downtown Montreal or Toronto and having a young socialist or immigrant look at them with fear or loathing. Is this the right way to treat the people who defended the freedom we live with today and asked nothing in return? I just don't like it. Maybe I just don't like all the negativity. I stand for justice and the common good...these are the two foundations of my kind of democracy. Most of all, if we are going to be hawkish with our enemies, then we need to be diplomatic to our friends. The U.S. deserves to be treated better...not because of Bush, but because of the millions of Americans who travel here every year and come to see the great nation of people that we are here in Canada. So be it I guess, but maybe I am too much of an idealist...

Will the Conservatives win any Quebec seats?
tml12 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
For the record, and short of getting into a huge debate on what it means to be a Quebecer, I consider Martin to be a Quebecer. He owns property here and that is enough for me. -
Hate to attack the writer and not the writing, so I'll try to do both. Paul Jackson makes me cringe at how rabidly right wing people can be in Canada. I have read his stuff in the Calgary Sun for years, back before his tenure as the editor. He believed in and supported South African apartheid, and thought they were a great country. He is an ardent zionist and extremely pro-USA, to the point of making me wonder what on earth is he doing in Canada. From Jackson... If it were only so easy, simply swear fealty to a new potentate, and all of your wishes will come true. What would playing the role of sycophant cost? A billion a year to keep troops in Iraq? Free water? I don't read the Calgary so I hope you'll forgive me when I say that I cannot comment on anything else this man has written or who he even is. What I do believe is that the article was, maybe childishly so, positive on Harper and his potential relations with the U.S. It also criticized Martin quite rightly for his lack of diplomacy. The quote you included, fleabag, I agree was a bit optimistic.

I have just watched those ads. They are hateful, disgusting, and if you buy into the Liberal-propagated myths, anti-Canadian. It's what they do best. I wouldn't be surprised if they turn a lot of people off and give the Conservatives a commanding lead and bring the NDP around 30 seats. They will turn a lot of people off. Martin has really shamed himself...

Harper Dragging Canada into Exteme Danger
tml12 replied to River_God's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't get why the Liberals think their hate-filled campaign will work. Canadians certainly must see through this. The NDP and the Tories have run a positive campaign so far. The Liberals have just gotten unbelievably desperate. They just don't care how their ads might hurt federalism or American relations. You know, I initially said hate-filled. But the ads represent at the core, plain ignorance. Einstein said, "We can never solve our significant problems from the same level of thinking we were at when we created the problems." Martin promised a fresh start when he took over and I believed him. We have just fell lightyears backward... -
http://calsun.canoe.ca/News/Columnists/Jac...10/1386795.html I think it is well written on Canada-US relations...

tml12 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
He does that in English too. The man is a dithering fool. Chretien should sue Martin for his new, hateful approach. He seems to be beating Chretien at his own tricks... -

You know, I don't bye into the religious groups thing. Yes I know that Harper is right of centre. That being said, I don't believe all this Liberal garbage that the man is right of right of right... When I was a teenager, I was a socialist. Now, I am centre-right. People can change
-
You know, I haven't watched the ads online yet...but I will. I don't watch much TV. Like, I watch my girlfriend's soap opera in the afternoon (just so I can tell her what I think will happen and the moral and ethical implications of it ) and I watch TSN and RDS hockey games. I have, up to now, only seen Conservative TV commercials. NEVER Bloc ads or NDP ads and maybe I saw one Liberal ad. Maybe that is why the Conservatives are doing well here but the ads are impressive ones. Tonight though I will watch the Liberals ads online...

Harper Dragging Canada into Exteme Danger
tml12 replied to River_God's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Liberal Party, in trying to be more first under Chretien and then Martin, have run on this "Liberal values are Canadian values" platform. Sadly for them, I don't think Canadians are believing this anymore. Only the NDP, with its preaching of welfare values, and the CPC, with its preaching of moral values, can preach about values. The Liberals can, on the other hand, certainly preach about their lack of values... -
Martin=Desperate Duceppe=Incoherent Layton=Broken Record Harper=Credible I did not think Layton was profound because of his tired language of class warfare. If I heard 'evil corporate tax cuts' one more time I would have tossed my cookies. Amen. One wonders whether Layton understands investing, economics, Bay St., trading, etc.
