  1. He is a fool for admitting it because they could revoke his Visa and deport him to the States which would NOT be good for him.
  2. "So much for the liberal fearmongering about Harper being a puppet of the evil Bush Administration. Way to go Stephen!!!!!!! See everybody, this is what a real leader with real values, and real positions on issues acts like. God, it's been so long. What a refreshing change from the usual "all things to all people" Paul Martin was. Good riddance Paul." Martin is still dithering over whether to spend the next few weeks in the Eastern Townships or in Ottawa. He can't be bothered with all this decision-making stuff.
  3. That would be quite hilarious. Yes it was fun to see Michael Moore's shocked, almost desperate writing attempt...http://www.edmontonsun.com/Business/News/2006/01/26/1412262-sun.html I am not an ideologue. I may lean right or left on certain issues. But in general I find the Liberal Party in this country quite distasteful.
  4. I have only spent a day in Toronto. It is a nice city, but definitely not Manhattan. I have never been to Chicago. And yes, the people there are quite convinced they *define* Canada...
  5. He used to brag about how he would "stand up" to the Americans As opposed to Harper today who was...uh, bragging how he would "stand up" to the Americans. Again, it's not being anti-American to make your differences known. Parrish was fired after the doll incident. Granted, she should have resigned or been fired after the "bloody Americans" comment, but ultimately it was just an off-the-record comment made at the spur of the moment. I don't think conservatives making such a big deal out of it were worried they were hurting our two countries' relationship when they made sure everybody from here to FoxNews headquarters was aware of what she said. Ah Harper said he would stand up for Canadian sovereignty. Can you honestly compare that to this: http://www.canadafreepress.com/2003/weinreb041403.htm Or better yet, this: http://www.cnn.com/WORLD/9707/09/nato.chretien/ Buying votes? Thank God Chretien was such a clean, guilt and scandal-free PM...
  6. I love the Toronto/New York City one. Considering 90% of Toronto supports the anti-American Liberals it should come as a *shock* that Toronto's lifelong goal is to become the Canadian New York City. They're still working on it...
  7. That's why we need to get past these trivial things and take pride in the fact that we are North Americans...hell if France and Germany can have better relations than Canada and the U.S. we are in DEEP trouble... On a similar note, a friend of mine was backpacking through Europe and wound up in Spain. When a woman asked her where she was from, she said "Canada." The woman began talking politics with her and remarked that "Canadians are no different from Americans." This shook up my friend, who responded "this is not so." The women said, "Tell me how your different." Naturally, my friend was dumbfounded. We'll hope for the best on this end in the meantime...
  8. The New York Sun? I would think by now that the USA had learned its lesson regarding exiles and truth. The two are not compatible! What are you talking about CCGirl? Care to elaborate???
  9. "If the southern hemisphere was to adopt pluralistic democracy, free markets, transparency, rule of law and stable capital markets, there's no reason that they couldn't greatly improve their lots in life as well." The anti-American left is making huge gains in the South America and I do agree it is scary. The fact is, these lefties can play the anti-American card so well because the people there are so ignorant and believe the babling about how the U.S. is an imperialistic party of the "White Man's Burden." Someone has got to settle them down.
  10. Two Things: 1) I have no idea if Belinda is a Leaf fan and while it is true I couldn't care either way it would be interesting to find out... 2) Hamilton doesn't have the history and also, Winnipeg has a much better sports facility. They'd change the name for sure...you don't ever hear of the Colorado Nordiques do you???
  11. Carolyn Parrish was kicked out of the party. When did Chretien curse and tell them off? Oh give me a break Bubber, Chretien was one of the most anti-American PM there ever was. He used to brag about how he would "stand up" to the Americans...his chief of staff used to make anti-American comments all the time...and in general he was not very pro-American. Parrish should have been kicked out LONG before she was.
  12. McKenna, to his credit, resigned once he decided to run for the leadership. Hugh Segal continues to be paid by all Canadians while working for Harper. Clearly Conservatives see no problem in Segal working for the party and being paid by all Canadians rather than by the Conservative Party. Hugh Segal would, in my opinion, make a good ambassador to the US. That is a completely different comparison norman. Segal is a Conservative...would you feel better if Brian Mulrooney appointed him and he was campaigning for Harper. Give me a break, the man is a proud Tory helping his party out...
  13. I highly doubt he would have won a third straight majority... BTW Congrats to the Sens tonight uottawaman. The Habs looked listless.
  14. http://www.egale.ca/ All my gay friends say this is the best website for gay-rights groups in this country.
  15. Shapiro is way beyond pro-Liberal. He comes from the Montreal anglo/McGill University communitee that routinely gives Irwin Cotler approximately 80% of the vote in TMR. I should add though that he was an EXCELLENT president of McGill...I liked what he did for the university and he should come back to the city if things don't get better over in Ottawa.
  16. Just wondering YankAbroad, what UK party do you support? I have some friends that live in the British Isles and lots of people from the UK are there, all HUGE Tory supporter. And, I may add, LOATH a politician named Ken Livingstone (he's the mayor, eh? They're afraid he is going to be Labour head). I have taken a lot of UK Party tests to see what party I should vote for if I lived in the UK and they all tell me I don't match any requirements for ANY party there...we seem to think alike on some issues so that's why I posed the question...
  17. To protect kids from abuse.
  18. The age is too low as is. Shouldn't be a difference, it just shouldn't be 14. I still say it shouldn't be based on the age, rather we need to make sure 50 year olds aren't screwing their 14 year old neighbour.
  19. Harper said he would protect Canadian sovereignty...what was he going to do...say, "Mr. Wilkins, I am your humble servant baby?" Martin dithered and rambled and Carolyn Parrish stepped on dolls and called the Americans bastards...Chretien cursed at the Americans and told them off, etc... I mean, if Harper said: "I am protecting Canadian sovereignty, f**k off Wilkins, then I'd be a bit disappointed now."
  20. "For instance, here in Britain, when I expressed an opinion which said I didn't want any religion -- especially fundamentalist Islam -- influencing public social policies, I was accused of being "islamophobic" by some odious Labour Party twat. What's worse is that he attributed a nasty racist position to me which I didn't have, and told me "I know that you really hate the 'towel heads' don't you? Fucking Yank." The Brits can play the anti-American card too although many of them 20-somethings over their heads so deep in a bottle of Tanqueray I must wonder. I was in a bar here a few months back and a guy from London was in there. After about six gin and tonics all he could tell you was Britain was responsible for making the English the world's top language, all the French can go to hell, and the Americans were "yankee doodles." It sure was sad when they were dragging his ass out of there.
  21. "Well, only one of your assumptions is true: that I find the US distasteful. I don't have the ability to go somewhere else because it's just not that easy and I'm not sure where a better place would be." Care to explain why you find the U.S. distasteful? Because it sounds like more whining from the Canadian left. A better place for what? "I'm not an immigrant to the US. And I haven't and don't ceaselessly complain. However, if I wanted to hazard a guess about why immigrants might do so, I'd say that maybe they expect to have a better life once they leave home. In many ways, they do to be sure. But IMO racism is something worth complaining about." LOL I meet immigrants all the time telling me they're not Canadian, just [insert country here] and here in Canada for the *time being*. The same goes for the States. Immigrants to Canada and the U.S. don't know how good they have it. And many of them are grateful. It is too bad that many of them don't respect their duty.
  22. For sure...it would be great to have another hockey team back in the country...
  23. Yes, I am quite intolerant of sexism. I am also intolerant of racism and bigotry. And no, I do not make any apologies or withdrawals regarding assaulting those who insult my family. lol...I did last time...maybe next time I'll vote green *sigh* I miss the Rhinoceros party. I'm definitely a Sens fan, but any team that beats the Leafs is ok in my books. Even if the Sens win the cup this year, it will be an empty victory if they don't face the Leafs in the playoffs. This Habs game I am watching now is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO boring...
  24. Oh yeah, but we usually spell it with two i's. Yeah I am a bit tired tonight...that's funny...
  25. You must be in Winnepeg...
