No, I meant the World Wildlife Fund. I have noticed a distinct lack of spontenaity amd honesty in their presentations. I mean, c'mon, Adopt a Tiger??? Who's got the room? And try claiming the Harper child care benefit even if Tigger is under 6 and eating you out of house and home! Not a member/follower of either...

Canada's wealthiest province utterly rejects the left
tml12 replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Albertans are unwilling to change, unlike Ontario and other Provinces re their politics. I've lived here all my life all of it under a Conservative or Social Credit banner. We haven't been Liberal since 1905-1921. That's 88 years of right-wing rule!!! 85 tml... 88 was by the time Klein's current term is done... -
I don't think anyone's trying to make a second-tier. In fact, I've only seen this as privately provided, publically paid for care. I don't think anyone is trying to do differently... Klein said he would violate the Canada Health Act... And??? Which part of the huge document please? Oh right, he didn't specify. Stop assuming the worst and smmiillleee! Who's complaining? I've been arguing the Canada Health Act is flawed for years...

Now you find fault with the World Wildlife Federation? I think he meant "World Wrestling Federation."

Generally impressive Geoffrey but I'd give Josee Verner intergovernmental affairs...I'd like to see how she'd do. I liked Liberal Dion in the position...when Martin gave my Liberal MP Lucienne Robilliard the position I forgot it existed...

Don't you know...they pay YOU to join... Especially if you live in a riding that was decided by less than 3,000 votes last time around...
-
Chretien and Martin were public figures too, but as leaders of the Liberal Party that CBC relies upon for its existence gave them the benefit of the doubt. Can you imagine if the NDP was in power and the same thing happened to Layton? I can see the CBC headline now: PRIME MINISTER LAYTON SELFLESSLY REFUSES TO SLEEP IN ORDER TO UNEXPECTEDLY VISIT A HOSPITAL AND SEE IF PATIENTS ARE SLEEPING OKAY AND IF THEY MADE NEED ANY ASSISTANCE

Didn't you hear...Bush is second in command to take over if Harper is out of commission... Earlier today, CBC reported that a CIA plane landed in Ottawa and were apparently talking to Harper about "disappearing for awhile" while the new "transition" process took effect immediately." I bet you at least 65% of the left in Canada would believe that crap too...

US Trade Rep Might Challenge Canada's Media Laws
tml12 replied to YankAbroad's topic in Canada / United States Relations
YankAbroad, "If that." Good response! "I know a Liberal Party gal who is all for Canada leaving NAFTA and joining the EU." [5-6 minutes later after a crying fit of laughter, getting up, getting a glass of water, drinking the water, taking a deep breath, throwing the previously almost full box of tissues away]. But then, if for NO other reason, the Liberals would have to protect Canadian sovereignty against the EU. The Liberal leadership race should get interesting now... "That assumes that: 1) The EU would accept Canada -- which is doubtful; 2) That Canadians would want their income taxes to soar to pay for social benefits in Eastern Europe." 1) The EU would not accept Canada. 2) Alberta would flat out separate...Ontario might stick around for awhile... "Oh and BTW, if you think Canadian sovereignty is "under attack from the Americans," wait until Brussels gets done with Canadian sovereignty. You'll might as well shut down Ottawa and send the MPs home." From what I have read about EU politics, I understand British hesitance in pushing the UK towards full participation. Your Liberal friend, however, needs to live in France for awhile. -
Time to change channels at the CBC?

1/3 to 1/2 of the funding for PBS comes from the US government. PBS would not exist if it did not have public funding. Furthermore, PBS has 10 times the market to draw donations from. It would be next to impossible for CBC to replace its budget with donations. So you agree CBC funding should be cut from the Canadian gov't?Where did you get that idea from. I said English TV need to be re-worked which means its budget could go up. The most important thing it to make sure that CBC has enough funding to provide programming that many Canadians want but they cannot get from the private broadcasters. Sorry I misunderstood... -

US Trade Rep Might Challenge Canada's Media Laws
tml12 replied to YankAbroad's topic in Canada / United States Relations
"Don't be foolish -- constant isolation of the United States isn't good for Canada. Most American foreign policy has had huge benefits for Canada (even if Canadians don't realize it) because it strengthens the market where the vast majority of Canadian goods and services are sold." I think every Canadian who is anti-American should spend time flauting their "pro-Canada we are not the U.S. don't you love us now?" attitude for two years in some European and South American countries. How long would you give them...three days??? -

Bubber, I do hope you realize Chomsky is the most anti-Semitic Jew out there that I know of. -
I have said it before...in a democracy, governments should govern and not define many of these things they have no business defining in the first place. Enough of these "marriage" acts...let people live as they themselves see fit.

"I think Harper is in for a huge shock when he realizes just how difficult the current US administration is to deal with." It is very clear that on our relationship with the Americans, a "Prime Minister Yaro" would take a VERY protectionist outlook while "Prime Minister tml12" would take a much more "and what can we do for each other?" outlook. Yes Bush is hard to deal with. Bush is not every American president...Bush is just the guy that is there now. Remember Mulrooney? I wasn't his biggest fan, but when he called Reagan he could get what he wanted. That is the kind of relationship we need now. -
No, But the left wants us to...they want us to think Harper is being anti-American now... Jason Kenney said it best...he said, when you talk to your friends, sometimes you've got to show some tough love. I think he's right...

Sell it to Rupert Murdoch... No but seriously I think CBC should be privatized and run like PBS in the States, they get their funding from donations, right? -
Anyone who bases their thesis argument on the fact that being gay means being a pedophile neither understands the concept of homosexuality nor knows what a pedophile is.

Why isn't Canada helping to promote democracy?
tml12 replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Hmmm. "No dealing with the USA"??? Unless we were to cultivate a whole lot of other trade partners very quickly, that would lead to national bankruptcy. Better get all your savings converted to sheckels or dinaries, or maybe euros, before that step is taken, because Canadian cash wouldn't be worth the paper it's printed on. Sorry. I don't particularly want to live in a 3rd world country. The USA is by no means perfect, but then again, neither is Canada or any other country. Personally, I'd rather have dealings with the USA than about 90% of the other countries in the world. Good post PocketRocket... -
Yeah, I mean, everyone understands that terror doesn't grow out of hatred. . . Heck, based on the SPLC's definition of hate groups, the Liberal Party of Canada could have been classified as a hate group based on its recent campaign commercials. But in terms of classifying groups, I wouldn't put al-Qaida and the KKK in the same category. I would put the Liberal Party in a hate group all itself though...

"Used to be Canadians and Amercians would cross each other's borders, shop, play, get jobs, etc. This is no longer the case. Why? Because George W. Bush said this one thing that divided us all "Either you're with us or against us"." I worked in a used book store in Montreal and met U.S. tourists all the time. Furthermore, I go shopping in Plattsburgh every now and then because they have more selection down there. Would you care to explain what gave you the urge to make a fallacious and ridiculous comment?
