  1. Hey now. If a tree can vote in the PQ leadership race, surely its entitled to a rebate cheque. On that one I can't find flaw with you... Why do trees vote for left-wing parties? Is it because they like sitting around idle doing nothing all day...
  2. I sense someone majored in historical revisionism and minored in ad hominem attacks. IMT, That's a but cruel considering Shoop isn't wrong...
  3. It should not be allowed in principle. If someone is uncomfortable with their party, they should sit as an independent. If, after the end of the current term of Parliament, they want to join another party, they should do so then. Otherwise this just becomes open for silly Parliamentary pandering.
  4. There's land east of Calgary? Most of that part of the world is dead to me now. So they say...
  5. Without Alberta beef, I strongly dispute that. No food is completely without some kind of beef. I eat it three meals a day. And for my midnight snack. It's actually the only food I eat. Dispute what? Of course, the beef we get is from Alberta. I dunno where else it'd be from... But, of course, you can't have good mean without it!!!
  6. The left has a lot of time to do research now that the purse-strings aren't in the public hand, eh newbie?
  7. Where do you order this stuff, I'm actually interested? Nothing like a little advertising plug for your local organic folks. The one I use is Small Potatoes, but I'm not sure if they have a calgary distribution center. They are www.spud.ca . If you emailed them from the contact us page, they are very good at getting back to you and probably could recommend a service in your area if they are not already there. Thanks! Apparently they deliver on Thursdays, I'm going to order some stuff up. They don't deliver in Montreal. Apparently they also don't deliver east of Calgary. Well if Montrealer's diets are anything like Torontonians, then I wouldn't doubt you couldn't get organic food there !! Do you guys even know what a vegetable is ?? I am sure you can but I really never investigated it. I don't have the greatest diet in the world...I'm NOT overweight, it is just that I like quick stuff so I can get right back to posting on MapleLeafWeb... We are rated like the 3rd or 4th best food city in the world I think offhand...
  8. Of Liberals condoning switcheroos or Conservatives condemning them. I think many of us CPC supporters have come out against this Emerson move. You got to call it as it is. A unprincipaled opportunist is an unprincipaled opportunist whether they wear blue or red at the end of the day. The problem more with the left that were ok with Belinda's defection because she played the oppressed woman in a party ran by men card. If you were ok with Belinda, you must support David too. He's just an oppressed conservative in a party of socialists. I'm not ok with either... When I first saw this move up to the top of the 'Federal Politics' forum I nearly jumped thinking this was a new thread and Belinda actually switched back. So did I... I think you're right though geoffrey...
  9. One reason why Libertarians didn't get more votes in the election is because you shut us out of the debates. The other is your ballot access laws which make us spend millions to get on the ballots even in districts where we outpace one of the two Tweedle parties. And finally, the Reform party received millions of votes in prior elections and you didn't let them in the debates either. The real reason you resist including the third largest party in the debates is fear. You're afraid we'll show the American people that your "small government" rhetoric is all bullshit as you've grown the government faster and larger than any other party in history. It is funny though that you're suddenly concerned about the popular vote now -- your Tweedledum party wasn't so concerned with the popular vote in election 2000, was it? But I guess whatever argument works at the time should be employed, right? After all, hopefully nobody will notice the inconsistencies. Ah, but we're noticing. And we keep doing better and better in every election. Eventually, we'll start costing you seats in close elections. Then we'll replace you as the primary opposition in a couple of others, and send folks to Washington. Then, your worst nightmare begins! I would love to see a third or even a fouth party in american politics. A triangle is your sturdiest structure after all.... Completely agreed on that...

Maybe a good business idea TML For sure, If you live east of Calgary we could be business partners...
  11. Dear Insom Elvis, "I have to add my input here, I am an American, born and raised close to Las Vegas, Nevada and being an American I may or may not be welcome here but that's really up to your perception of myself, and possibly any stereotypes that may be floating around." You are more than welcome here!!! This is a forum where Canadians (and we have Americans here too) discuss issues that relate to both our countries. We welcome your perspective and any insight you may offer. Anti-Americanism exists in Canada for sure, but it is a minority of our population please understand that. "I will support my country, my countrymen, and my president until one or the other does something to threaten the freedom that so many of our men have died defending." It is your right and your decision to do that. I am not a fan of Bush, but I am a moderate conservative and I support the right of people to defend whom they see fit. "I would have died in battle under president Clinton's term of office although I hated his lack of morals and failure to be truthful." I didn't like Clinton either for his lack of morals. "I don't agree with everything Bush, the current presiden does, but if I protest this in public, I am giving live ammunition to those who seek to destroy us." As someone with American cousins and Canadian friends in the U.S. military, I agree that left-wing protest a la Cindy Sheehan does hurt the morale of troops. "Perhaps we did start the Iraq war, for now lets go ahead and say we did. Iraq invade Kuwait, this is not fiction. In their greed, Iraq attacked an easy target for personal gain and who was there to protect them? Well America showed up and kicked Saddam's ass back to Iraq right? We could have had Iraq straightened out a lot faster except due to the fact that we willingly submitted to U.N. oversight, our mission for democracy and freedom for the people of Iraq was postponed for 12 years. In that time, many of the people of Iraq became extremely disenfranchised, they were so willing to surrender to the freedom of our jail cells rather than submit to the authority of a murderous dictatorship but we were foced to withdraw to see that things were done in the most sensible fashion. If I see a large boy hit a small girl I'm going to interfere even if I am not that boy's parent. Does this make me an evil satan worshipper? What's the difference in what we did with Iraq? Same with Vietnam and Korea, the little guy got picked on and we stepped in with great loss to our own assets. I'd gladly die for my country, but could you imagine dying for someone else's? Or say you live, but half of your comrades in arms were taken by whatever war you fought in and you have to live the rest of your life hearing their screams in your sleep at night and hearing people constantly badmouth YOU for sticking up for another civilization." Excellent, I cannot disagree with anything you have written here. "As far as U.S. and Canadian relations, we're business partners. I see it as a bit more, we're long time neighbors and friends. You helped us gain our freedom and you have my personal thanks for that. I believe you also have troops on the field in Iraq, if I'm not mistaken, then rest assured that we appreciate their support." Thanks... And yes we do have troops there...working side by side with the Americans...permanent friends and allies that we are... "I feel a strong sense of pride that we've come so far, both civilized nations standing side-by-side without ever having to take up arms against each other." Me too... "Now as far as the politicians go, you're close, we need your resources and you need our money. Done deal, the transaction is made in the open, legally and with full support from both sides. Where's the problem? Our politicians may be arrogant, they might not care about you, but thats why they represent our budget and not our heart." Our politicians are very arrogant too. The Liberal Party here tried to tear apart our relations for their own political gain. They are shameful...Canadians rose up and defeated this odious and loathing Liberal government in order to elect a Conservative one that promises to be much more friendly to our friends and allies down there. "At a time like this, where America is under quiet seige from terrorists and stressing out about wars abroad it's nice to know that if we get hit hard maybe Canada would watch our backs. And likewise, trust me! If your coastline was invaded it would take one phone call and you'd have so much support from the greatest military on earth that you wouldn't know where to fit them all. I know for damn sure we wouldn't sit idly by if you were ever hit, but if that never happens are you going to sit there and accuse us of wanting to take you over? That's ridiculous and I hope you rethink your logic because that's almost offensive." I have lived in the United States before and, in this thread and on this forum, have defended the United States and highlighted the extreme importance of Canada-U.S. relations and the importance of them. Rest assured that the majority of Canadians hold the U.S. in high regard and respect its ideals. There are many Canadians, ones that sadly consider themselves "quasi-intellectuals" who try and use hateful leftist rhetoric to move Canada apart from the U.S. This will not happen. This cannot happen. This will never happen. I think you have written a beautiful post. Rest assured that you are most respected here and we look forward to your commentary. Thank you for keeping the peace on the other side of the border.

  13. Me too, very disappointed, in this instance we are no better than the liberals. There should be a by-election immediately or he should sit as an independant. He should put an Alberta MP in there for awhile and then put Emerson there. Emerson should sit as an Independent for a month or so.
  14. Jeez, us folks without kids have to pay school taxes and now welfare for you people with kids?! I'm outraged! Outraged! I'm outraged... I've also just lost any belief that someone will stand up and end the hand out society we've become. Relax Geoffrey, At least we know that with the CPC in power the cheques won't be sent to trees and plants like those heating rebate cheques.
  15. Of course. Because your side is always acting on principle, while the other side are just a bunch of whores. Newbie, I have to hand it to you...this thread is just amazingly well thought out. Maybe Graham should be PM. After all, I am sure he would extend the right to vote to 15 year olds...it would widen his Toronto base...
  16. I don't know much about him, nor do I hear much about him. I never hear anything about him from rightwing sites, so I wouldn't get my hopes up too much. I know he wrote a book called Liberalism is a Mental Disorder. I'm curious what he wrote because I too, sometimes think liberalism is a mental disorder. But I've never ordered the book and I haven't seen it in any stores in town. I could request the library order the book but they would refuse. I live in a province governed by the NDP and I believe that they control what literature is allowed in the public libraries. The left is noted for doing everything they can to control the information the masses see or hear (eg, the 5 year Fox News Channel ban). I once requested the library order an Ann Coulter book. They sent me a letter saying they didn't order the book because it got "poor reviews". But this book was on the NY Times' Bestseller List for 16 weeks and Coulter is one of the best-selling political authors in the last decade! Later I asked them to order the controversial Swift Boat Veterans For Truth's Unfit For Command. I was curious as to what Kerry had done to make 264 of 270 of his mates dislike him so intensely. The lady at the library told me that it was on order but I would be #12 on the waiting list. She said that they might have to order another one since the waiting list was getting high. Later I got a letter saying the book wasn't ordered because it got "poor reviews". I've given up on my public library. Now I just keep my head down most of the time when I am in the library.....[to avoid looking at the tons of Bill Clinton books that seem to be in every aisle]. Savage used to have a show on MSNBC in the States called "The Savage Nation." It got canceled and he got fired after he said something about homosexuals having no morals or something like that.
  17. Depends whether a centrist Martinite or a leftie Chretenite (not tied to corruption, of course!!!) takes over the party.
  18. They are socialist in nature.
  19. Well, I thought it was Harper's moral upstanding and clean campaign that put the cons in power. Well, you've had a taste today of the REAL Stephen Harper. More hidden agenda to follow. Newbie, I think you are being overly pessimistic. I won't play a double standard here. I criticized's Belinda's defection and I agree that Harper's decision is quite beyond me and looks really bad. But if you think you are ready to bring the government down over this then you need to just relax. Relax? Oh, like Monty. Okay, I can do that. What's the matter guys. You can sure dish it out can't ya? You've been harpin (no pun inteneded) against the Libs ever since I joined this cozy con love fest and now reality hits you. Well you had your fun. Day 2 tomorrow. I think I'll just stick around for awhile. As far as bringing the gov't down...it would wreck all the fun. No, I look forward to more of Stephen's clean and moral behaviour to do that. Cheers. Ah newbie, You make me "cozy con love fest." LOL!!! I criticized Harper what else do you want me to do??? Harper will lose support of the Reform part of his caucus if he doesn't become accountable to people who elected him and he is not stupid... But on that note, glad to see you'll be sticking around...Cheers and a Labatt Blue right back at you...
  20. Actually I say they are pretty close to communist when you read the platform, sounds pretty creepy. well they argue that sovereignty is necessary for breaking away from evil conservative canada so there you go...
  21. This party is left-wing, that's all there is to know.
  22. Completely agreed. I hate the Liberals. $420,000 plus benefits...
  23. I don't think he could come up with enough cabinet posts. I wouldn't mind if the NDP just becomes the Opposition and the Liberal party seeks to become anything more than what we perceive of the Social Credit today. I think Conservative and NDP voters can agree that the Liberals either are left or right depending on the general tide of the day and seek to wrap themselves in the federalist flag. Trudeau easily could have been NDP while Martin could have easily been a moderate Conservative. The Liberals as a party have no unity not because Liberal members don't have strong opinions but rather because they do not have one clear, coherent position.
  24. Starting to feel a little naive yet TM:? Better mail me over some of that WinnIpeg weed...
  25. Dosanjh was provincial NDP, Emerson was elected as federal Liberal although I understand your point. Dosanjh was unelected, I believe, and he did serve as Health Minister under Martin. Did I get it wrong? I think so...I thought he got elected in 2004 as MP for Vancouver South.
