  1. The BC and Quebec Liberals are CPC juniors. There is no serious provincial Conservative party in Quebec and I don't BC either...
  2. The cities got their money. Of course, San Francisco quasi-intellectual... ...I mean, Toronto mayor David Miller started bitching about American handguns before Layton could say "you're welcome."
  3. Wow...that was blistering...
  4. Nope, I respectfully say you're way out of whack saying that. Once a person signs up in the military, they're commiting to do their term generally and war is part of the risk. A soldier has a responsibility, (a big one), to maintain certain composure on a battlefield and not commit crimes against humanity within his scope or job level. They have to leave the policy decisions to people assigned that task. How can anyone prove the war in Iraq was illegal?
  5. Yank, I knew we were bound to disagree about something sooner or later (second beer offer still outstanding... ) I know what you are saying about the tactics of the recruiters. I know for a fact that they target low income areas and talk about money for university, etc. I also love this Army TV commercial they show here sometimes (there is a son playing pool with his dad and the son goes "it's for my country and it's the reserves" and the dad goes "with quality training and you'll be able to go to college" and the son goes "yeah, they'll only call me when they need me...plus it's the Army." So I am like...yeah he'll get the 101 syllabus and than that'll be the end of his university education... But the Hinzman thing bothers me. The draft is a much different issue...no one should be forced into the trenches. However, this is a guy who signed a form, went to fight, then said he couldn't kill anyone. I respect the fact, but instead of bailing on your signed word, ask to go somewhere else. Teenagers don't realize the power their signatures have...even before they are 18. I don't want this guy living on the system. I don't want to have to pay for his mistake of signing the contract. I feel for him...but his life is in no jeopardy if he goes back to the U.S.
  6. No one questioned the legality of the war. The lawyers said that the question of the legality of the war is irrelavent...furthermore, can we question the legality of the war? It seems to me he is living off tax dollars by appealing. I don't question the man is a decent human being, I do question his not understanding his commitments. It clearly says on a recruitment form, you sign here you live up to these committments. He has not understood that.
  7. http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/20...zman060208.html Back in the news again are these American war dodgers. Look, this has nothing to do with the draft. Hinzman signed a country to join the Army. This means you fight whatever war Congress asks you to. There is no fine print on the form that says you can "choose to fight whatever wars you believe are just." Whether you are left wing or right wing you must admit that when one chooses to fight, they made there choice. Furthermore, he will not be tortured if he went to the States. He will go to jail and that will be that. I also love when he said "he could never bring himself to kill a man." Not only can you be made to kill, with proper training, but also what did he think he was going to do in the Army? Drink tea and play with GI Joe dolls? I was not a huge supporter of the war in Iraq and many of my views are quite libertarian...however, I just don't like this whole thing. Canada needs to take a stand and make the right decision here.
  8. And 9 out of 10 people would agree that spending more money on various 'feel good' programs is a good thing especially when you have a surplus. Leadership is about convincing people that the way you balance the competing demands on the government is better than the way the other guys balance the competing demands. Sweet crap, ur a lefty arent ya? I don't have the energy to argue about the NDP, ive said what I had to say--- I am a right-leaning moderate conservative and I would never get rid of the NDP. Although they are a left-wing party that has taken many of their ideas straight out of The Communist Manifesto, I would not get rid of them because "to fly a plane, you need a right and a left-wing" (sorry Sparhawk, but your quote is very apprpriate here). Getting rid of the NDP would be undemocratic and a clear majority of Canadians (right or left-wing) need to see that.
  9. Geoff, I totally agreewith you on Emerson. If there was anything I was excited about concerning the Conservative minority, it was that they'd be able to work onthe general air of corruption and scandal that has mired the country. While there isn't anything wrong with what he did, persay, he already has broken two promises. One was not to appoint any non-elected cabinet members, and another was to appoint only elected senators. After all the accusations flung by him at Scott Brison and Belinda Stronach, he freely admits that he approached Emerson with a promised cabinet position... I'm baffled... Again, if this is the worst the guy does he still gets my vote in the next election...
  10. If this is the worst Harper does, I'll still be pro-Harper in the next election.
  11. But in a way, there is that implication that people who do not approve of the National Childcare are insensitive to the plights of those who cannot afford daycares. But there is discrimination on people like me who operate quality daycares from our homes. Sweeping statements are made bluntly stating ALL private home daycares are inferior as far as quality goes! There are those on the far left that believe that without government, humans cannot reach their full potential. The central thesis of these socialists is that most people do not know what is best for them. On the far right, there are those that say that privatizing everything is necessary to ensure competition and the embrace of the free market. Then there are those, like myself, who believe an appropriate combination of the two coupled with the human spirit is what is necessary for a healthy democracy. Quebec's daycare system--the Liberals' so-called example for this nation--is in decline. It is not the example for the nation. Individuals like you, betsy, operating daycares in your home, are an example of Canadians taking the initiative for daycare.
  12. I don't know what Chow might say but the NDP might play hardball. They really have nothing to lose. If an election was called so soon, the Liberals would probably drag Martin out of retirement and Harper would win a majority this time around.
  13. I think there are regional variations as well. When I was living in the U.S., albeit liberal New York, the Republican mayor was pro-choice, pro-SSM, pro-welfare, pro-immigration, pro-affirmative action...really he was only conservative in his "tough on crime" attitude. I am not sure it is easy to say what a federal/provincial/state Republican or a Liberal or an NDP is unless you examine their regional bias.
  14. I don't know much about him, nor do I hear much about him. I never hear anything about him from rightwing sites, so I wouldn't get my hopes up too much. I know he wrote a book called Liberalism is a Mental Disorder. I'm curious what he wrote because I too, sometimes think liberalism is a mental disorder. But I've never ordered the book and I haven't seen it in any stores in town. I could request the library order the book but they would refuse. I live in a province governed by the NDP and I believe that they control what literature is allowed in the public libraries. The left is noted for doing everything they can to control the information the masses see or hear (eg, the 5 year Fox News Channel ban). I once requested the library order an Ann Coulter book. They sent me a letter saying they didn't order the book because it got "poor reviews". But this book was on the NY Times' Bestseller List for 16 weeks and Coulter is one of the best-selling political authors in the last decade! Later I asked them to order the controversial Swift Boat Veterans For Truth's Unfit For Command. I was curious as to what Kerry had done to make 264 of 270 of his mates dislike him so intensely. The lady at the library told me that it was on order but I would be #12 on the waiting list. She said that they might have to order another one since the waiting list was getting high. Later I got a letter saying the book wasn't ordered because it got "poor reviews". I've given up on my public library. Now I just keep my head down most of the time when I am in the library.....[to avoid looking at the tons of Bill Clinton books that seem to be in every aisle]. Savage used to have a show on MSNBC in the States called "The Savage Nation." It got canceled and he got fired after he said something about homosexuals having no morals or something like that. That's unfair--if Savage said that about homosexuals. I wouldn't be surprised if it is true because I never hear anything about him on the right side of the news. This is the link: http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2003-0...ost-fired_x.htm
  15. I don't even think the most anti-CPC person out there really even cares. Do you ever sleep tml, you seem to be on this 24 hours a day, its 1:30am out here, its what, 3:30 there? On a Wednesday? Yeah it is 3:30...actually I went to bed around 11 but, sometimes, I wake up in the middle of the night and can't go back to sleep so I just do work around the house and come on the forum. Around 6 I'll be sleeping again.
  16. I don't think Toews' conviction is that bad. The man is more than qualified to be justice minister and has done a lot as justice critic. I think in the long term this will pass as one of the less interesting stories of the Harper government...
  17. Aw Geoffrey...that's not fair... Then they'd have to wait two more years...
  18. CRAZYMF: I don't know the Edmonton mayor on that list, but of all the people listed there I would agree that McCain is my favourite leader. He tells it like it is, regardless of party affiliation. GEOFFREY: I disagree with you about Carter and McCain. I like McCain and as for Carter, he has done a lot through Habitat For Humanity, etc. and I respect that. But, perhaps as Black Dog's Orwell quote illustrates, he did not put human rights as a forefront on his national agenda as he should have. BLACKDOG: This is where I pose the question to you. Remember when the former PM Paul Martin had the Chinese President here a few months ago and all the papers throughout Canada kept asking the question "do you think we should recognize Hu Jiantao (spelling?) here in Canada because of his human rights abuses, etc. Well, according to your Orwell quote, the only reason we in the west (regardless of left or right-wing) government ignore foreign government's human rights abuses is because we enjoy trading, etc. rights in these countries. Well, then the question asked should be: "would like to shop in Dollarama and get average quality things for $1.00 or would you rather have to shop in Linen Chest and great really expensive things for their really expensive made in USA or made in Canada price? I am sorry, but even if the Canadian left-wing got into power, they would govern just like the American left-wing (Jimmy Carter) did...ignore human rights abuses in other parts of the world to ensure that people here enjoy getting cheap made-in-Chine things from their local discount store...
  19. There's land east of Calgary? Most of that part of the world is dead to me now. So they say... Here is the response I got from my service for organic delivery in the "other" part of the world: I have a few links listed below for your friends to take a look at. I can't vouch for these companies personally, as I have no experience with them. However, at least as far as the produce boxes are concerned, Front Door Organics seems to be the closest match to the kind of service SPUD offers. Hope these help! For Toronto: http://www.frontdoororganics.com/ http://www.organicsdelivered.com/ http://www.mywowbox.com/welcome.asp http://www.greenearthorganics.com/ Montreal is somewhat trickier. I wasn't able to find any listings for organic home delivery in the Montreal area online. I'd be very surprised if there weren't any, but they don't seem to have an obvious web presence. Cheers, Devin Kettle SPUD Customer Service Hey Concerned, Thanks for the info. I haven't investigated it yet for Montreal but when I do (probably this weekend...earlies Friday) i will post the link here... I do appreciate you effort into the process and I am quite interested into finding out more about this...
  20. I expected no less than angry retorts. The same people who hate killing babies would kill me. Interesting how morality works. Freaks that knock up girls for fun would be close to the top of my list for capital punishment... maybe it wouldn't result in death, just a real good ass kicking. A good ol' fashion castration of the sexual predator might be in order. I'd help the daughter raise the child and encourage her not to have an abortion. I'm with you geoffrey...you left-handed? Because I got his right-side covered...
  21. I expected no less than angry retorts. The same people who hate killing babies would kill me. Interesting how morality works. dude you said you would hypothetically sneek through my chimney and screw my hypothetical daughter. And I never said I would kill you...I said I would straighten you out...
  22. HA HA HA HA ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha... sorry, I thought you were joking. Fox News? Credible? About as credible as the CBC...
  23. Way to affirm the cause Black Dog...
  24. I am pro-abortion through the first month with severe restrictions afterwards. So yeah, my daughter would get an abortion and since I am only a year older than you I would hunt you down and beat the sh*t out of you.
  25. Atwater516, "It doesn't surprise me that NDPers like Judy Rebick enthusiastically endorse QS's program ( minus Quebec sovereignty) for all of Canada, she is embracing the ideologies she championed in her youth and never really abandoned." Agreed.
